🗣️ Fitzwilliam Museum: Meinungen
Fantastische Erfahrung: I’m absolutely loving this place. Every time I visit it, I feel so enriched. Thank you for making it such an interesting, friendly and relaxing place.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Free to enter, great museum that had a Botticelli exhibit on, loads to see, great coffee in the cafe too.
Fantastische Erfahrung: What a wonderful oasis of calm in a bustling tourist destination. The antiquities from classical civilisation, porcelain, and artworks are all worth taking in. The shop and cafe in a modern, light, and airy space.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful museum with lots of detailed descriptions of the artifacts.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Very cool museum. Some incredible treasures. Cafe needs ice on a hot day.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Very well maintained & nice place to visit
Fantastische Erfahrung: Incredible museum with some amazing medieval artefacts.
Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum itself is a wonderful art work of architecture. The art work inside are magnificent and worth coming again and again. Visited three times and still can’t get enough of it
Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum is situated in the heart of Cambridge. The entire museum is really big and the facilities are also good. The paintings were fascinating. Much to see about Egyptian culture and sculptures. It has an extensive and varied collection and it is highly recommend to visit for a couple of hours. It’s free and in centre location of Cambridge city. Building itself is a beautiful architecture. It spans thousands of years, from neolithic Crete to Roman period Sardinia and includes an object that is 9,000 years old.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum, a lot of exhibitions
Fantastische Erfahrung: Features an unusual range of objects, beautiful curated around the space. The building is absolutely break-taking, and is fascinating to walk around, only visited the free exhibits and they are very fruitful. Looking forward to going back for a paid exhibit.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great venue, some amazing sculptures and pictures, something for all tastes. What caught my attention most was the sensory baby sessions that were taking place, what a fantastic way to initiate a child into such an environment.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Very nice Museum! Not too busy and there is a cafe and gift shop inside. We didn’t have time to try out the cafe. The gift shop has a range of items all ranging in price! The Monet pieces were mesmerising! Overall a cute place to visit. Free admission
Fantastische Erfahrung: It is one of the best museums. Lovely staff.
Fantastische Erfahrung: We nipped in as it was raining and glad we did. The museum has a nice little variety of artifacts and art from different eras, Egyptian to Medieval to modern art. Nice grand old building which is well kept and I think there was a café? Not a bad shout to spend an hour or so, especially if it's raining!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great art ..particularly the French impressionists. And one Hockney. Nice Amazing Egyptian artifacts.. but maybe they should be in Egypt ?
Positive Erfahrung: Negatives - Quite hot and stuffy inside on a warm day. Not enough clear signage for the toilets and the exits. No car park and on street parking nearby is scarce and very expensive. The artefacts are all well explained in labels but the print is very small and sometimes low down so might not be easy for some to read. Positives - Free entry. No need for advance tickets, no queue Tons of fascinating and beautiful artefacts from different eras and countries. The building itself is impressive to see, both outside and inside. Rooms are spacious and mostly well lit. Has accessible lift, public toilets and a cafe.
Positive Erfahrung: We visited on a trip to Cambridge. Used the park & ride which stops on the way into Cambridge but the stop going back is a little way away. The museum is surprisingly small. Well laid out with a map available. Wide choice of exhibits in themed rooms. Café available.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great collection and great curation here. It's worth a good visit.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Visited the cafe at the Fitzwilliam Museum last Friday, hadn’t been for 2 or more years, was lovely to be back. Very nice coffee, much improved from a few years ago when unfortunately back then it used to only be lukewarm or practically cold when it was meant to be hot! But very very much better now, proper hot and lovely coffee. I didn’t eat on this occasion but their food looked good too. Lovely friendly staff members there too, both at the main entrance and in the cafe :) thank you very much Fitzwilliam Museum for making me feel very welcome, comfortable and at ease!! Definitely returning soon!!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Lovely museum to visit. Free entry which was a bonus. Excellent artefacts from lots of different eras through history.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Love it! You can definitely spend a day in this tremendous museum
Fantastische Erfahrung: This boutique museum has one of the finest collecties of art and it s a real adventure to just enter the beautifull hall. They have a lovely shop and the cakes, drinks and sandwiches are really nice. Entrance is free!
Fantastische Erfahrung: It was a big surprise!! The place is apotheotic, the entrance is magnificent! You need at least 2 hours to see a limited part of the museum. I recommend visiting it
Fantastische Erfahrung: Excellent museum with helpful staff. A welcoming environment, not so easy to navigate however take your time, take everything in and you’ll have a great experience.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum, and it's definitely worth a visit. It's free and has stunning architecture and exhibitions.
Fantastische Erfahrung: One of the best museums in Cambridge. You definitely need to visit it at least once.
Positive Erfahrung: Lovely staff all over and the museum itself was fairly interesting & quirky. Can do it in 1 hour for a breeze through but could take you upwards of 2 hours if stopping to read. It's also free which means there is little opportunity to cost. No need to queue to get tickets too you walk straight in .
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum, definitely worth a visit and I’m glad it’s free! I also felt it was a special time to visit in summer 2024 with Botticelli’s Venus and Mars painting on display and the celebration of 200 years of The National Gallery (1824-2024). There’s a lot of variety in this museum in both art, objects, manuscripts, and the museum’s architecture itself is a marvel too. Something unique that I loved about it is how detailed the explanations were for some of the paintings, explaining context and composition alike. I wish more museums gave so much information and a tour guide wasn’t needed! I appreciated the plaque at the beginning explaining the wealth of this estate was established by the South Sea Company and exploitation of the slave trade, this is an important disclosure. I liked some of the other attempts to reckon with the legacy of racism and sexism throughout the museum, with exhibits specifically showing and discussing women artists, Jews, Roma, etc. However, I thought the choice to shoehorn in an Iraqi sculpture from 2003 in a room otherwise filled with Renaissance art was not well thought out. The justification was ‘juxtaposition’ with other scenes of anguish depicted in paintings, but I think it would be better served being in its little section with more accompanying pieces like some of the other affinity group sections I mentioned.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Huge range of exhibits ranging from Egyptology and medieval armour to ancient Chinese pottery and Picasso. Good café and shop on site too.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful museum in Cambridge would highly recommend visiting if you were in the area. Staff were incredibly polite and friendly. A beautiful curation and selection of work through time and so easy to get lost in, in the best way possible.
Fantastische Erfahrung: An amazing museum, lots to see. The Art is wonderful and it wasn't so busy that you couldn't stop to enjoy the wonderful artefacts.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great place to visit. Highly recommend.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Top class art museum with a fantastic programme of temporary exhibitions. I was fortunate to catch the William Blake show in April, but equally enjoying exploring the permanent collection and especially the new thematic displays in the British galleries. The cafe looked nice but I couldn't get a table due to how busy it was so went up the road and found a nice independent sandwich shop.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic museum has everything ...antiquities all periods of art.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Went to the William Blake exhibition which was excellent. Also used the cafe which was very good. All staff very helpful. I don't live in Cambridge and am having temporary mobility issues. So a drive to the park and ride which then dropped us off directly outside the museum was perfect!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great historic musueum. You can see many civilisations’ culture.
Positive Erfahrung: A free entry museum , lots of varied geographical location British empire loot to see. Art included Monet and Van Gogh! Def worth going!
Fantastische Erfahrung: We loved it! Everything! But especially paintings and bible icons. The books were breathtaking! Kids loved to see knights. You can easily spend a couple of hours in a museum and then have lunch in a nice café there.
Positive Erfahrung: This review is mainly about Accessibility at the Fitzwilliam Museum and is made up of two parts: outside in Trumpington Street and in the Museum itself. In Trumpington Street there is some Blue Badge parking. Some of the parking nearest to the Museum has an open drain/gully to negotiate. Closer to the Museum there is level access. Careful research is recommended before a first visit. That said, it is totally worth the effort to experience the wonders and delights inside the Museum! The staff and volunteers are most helpful and friendly. There are lifts between floors. The restaurant can very busy and we only got seats at our second attempt. I used the disabled toilet in the basement. Fairly easy to access and well signposted. Again, staff were very helpful. The disabled toilet is very small but well laid-out. For once, the hot air blower was close to the wash basin so no need to move the wheelchair to dry my hands. (A small matter but often not considered - other users will know what I mean!). Space is a bit tight so it's difficult to negotiate without the support of a carer. Overall a positive experience.
Positive Erfahrung: Very big and a lot of history but there was some inappropriate statues
Fantastische Erfahrung: Top museum which is free to enter. Food places in the area as it's the town center and cafe in the museum. Toilets onsite.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Amazing museum, we went to see the Botecelli picture which is on loan from the National Gallery. You can borrow a chair to sit on while on the galleries.
Positive Erfahrung: Nice free museum in the middle of Cambridge. The archaeological collections are worth a visit :)
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great exhibits, nice place to relax and take in some displays. Not too crowded. They have occasional special displays too. Was able to see the special exhibit on William Blake, so that was a great time for me. Overall a great place to hang around.
Fantastische Erfahrung: An incredible museum for archaeology lovers, especially eypgtian archeology. The Cyprus & Eypgt galleries were packed to the brim with fascinating artefacts. The museum can be a bit busy at times, but you'll still be able to get your photos & see the exhibits even at the busiest times.
Fantastische Erfahrung: First, free of charge. Second, it doesn't take a whole day to visit the collection. It's just the right amount of time. The collection is interesting. There are some sections that are for mature audiences only but it makes you think about the lives of other people. Beautiful currency and sword collection. Outside, they have a little patio for snacks and chairs to lounge in the sun.
Fantastische Erfahrung: If you're ever in Cambridge UK, the Fitzwilliam Museum should be on your list of places to see! The exhibits are a great assortment of archeological, geological and art. Special mention for the Monets! Spread over two floors, this museum is a must see! If you need another reason, it's free!
Fantastische Erfahrung: I have fond childhood memories visiting the Fitzwilliam museum with my mum and now as a father taking my children here is just as special the staff are lovely and well educated on what's being shown I highly recommend checking it out if you are just visiting or live in Cambridge get yourself some tickets and take in the history that's on offer and be sure to book in advance as it can get very busy at times
Fantastische Erfahrung: Nice, there are many collections from different cultures so one can never be bored
Negative Erfahrung: I spent an hour walking to the Museum as I had seen the posters for the Blake exhibition. Foolishly I hadn't realized that my little suitcase would be too big for the lockers. I walked up the stone steps and was aggressively accosted by a security guard who treated me like a criminal. When I asked if there was any storage facility he sneered at me and was no help. I left very upset and noticed he was still watching me as I crossed the road to leave. I will never go back, it ruined my day.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful museum with wide variety of exhibitions. Cafe had delicious food for a refuel during the visit. We spent a good 5 hours here.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Absolutely stunning and worth the visit, can’t believe it’s free.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful and interesting museum in Cambridge. Like all other UK museums it's free to visit. Not only is the exhibition wonderful, but also the architecture of the building is impressive. My favourites are the Canaletto paintings, being a Venician I am always amazed by the details found on those masterpieces.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum, well laid out, with a range of interesting items. Great exhibitions too - The William Blake one was fantastic! Also a great cafe with vegan options and a wonderful gift shop.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fabulous museum, really nice collection. Here today to see the William Blake exhibition.
Positive Erfahrung: Visited the William Blake exhibition yesterday. The Fitzwilliam Museum is a wonderful place and a marvellous resource for us Cambridge dwellers. It's very well laid out, with many wondrous things to look at. Because of our schedule we picked the latest entry slot to the exhibition (it was free, but you had to pick a time to enter) and we were a little surprised that we had to leave by 17.00. Nevertheless, we had enough time to see the exhibition which was very interesting and again, very well laid out.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Gorgeous museum. It has similar contents to the British Museum and a cute little coffee shop where you can relax
Fantastische Erfahrung: We have a fantastic time in here. Beautiful building and interior, with a highly impressive collections.
Fantastische Erfahrung: We visit this museum almost every time we are in Cambridge. Exhibitions change regularly, giving us an excuse to come back. The restaurant is also a great place to meet up with friends. A nice selection of snacks and meals.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Of all the museums that we visited in Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam is one of the best. It has an extensive and varied collection and it is highly recommend to visit for a couple of hours. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Entrance is free.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Lovely art, artefacts, pottery and much more in beautiful Neo Classical building.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic free museum in Cambridge. It's a must see with Pre-Raphaelite, Monet, Constable, Van Gogh and many more. Lots of art and objects from around the world. Cafe is expensive but they have to pay for it somehow.
Fantastische Erfahrung: This free museum has some amazing exhibitions over two levels, located not far from the city centre. The staff are wonderful and engaging, offering useful insights into the displays. Would highly recommend.
Fantastische Erfahrung: The most beautiful museum and feels a bit like British museum from the outside. Highly recommended to visit once in a lifetime. Entry is free so check out this place. I love visiting museums
Fantastische Erfahrung: This museum is the perfect size to spend an afternoon. Amazing art and it has a lovely coffee shop with yummy sandwiches & cakes. Pablo Picasso, Renoir and Rossetti to name a few. Right now they also have the William Blake’s Universe exhibition which is worth the trip️❤️!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Went to see the William Blake's Universe, very interesting seeing his work as well as others. Also didn't realise there was other exhibits in the museum so had a look at a few, one was in room 5, only a selection of artwork in here which was a bit of a shame. A lot of art work on religion though, if your thing. Toilets are clean and nice. Lovely cafe and gift shop.
Fantastische Erfahrung: The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge left an indelible impression on me as one of the best museums I've ever visited. My husband who is not a fan of art and museums he remained impressed. Its stunning architecture, diverse collections spanning from Egyptian antiquities to European paintings, and exquisite decorative arts left me in awe. The museum's rich history and engaging exhibitions make it a must-visit for anyone with a love for art and culture.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Had a good time love the Egyptian stuff! They have toilets. Nice and clean! One of them is for all genders! Have a café and a gift shop. Dad and I. Have been many times before.
Fantastische Erfahrung: It's my favourite museum in town. Nice collection and exhibitions. Free entry to the main exhibition.
Positive Erfahrung: Lots to see in this museum. We went in the Japanese section and saw lots of paintings by Renoir, Canaletto, and Pissarro to name but three. Too much to see in one trip. Nice gift shop.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fitzwilliam Museum is in Cambridge, about an hour away by train from London King's Cross station. Once at Cambridge station, weather permitting, you can walk to the museum in about 25 minutes. Or you could take a bus/taxi. The museum has no entrance fees. But you can always make a donation if you wish. Once inside the main entryway, be certain to look up and enjoy one of the most beautiful ceilings you will ever see. While it's an easy day trip from London, you would want to go back to enjoy their vast collection of paintings, prints, pottery as well as other historically and archaeologically significant artefacts. My favorite piece was a hedgehog like Egyptian pot with a monkey face from circa BCE 3500. That's roughly 6,000 years old (see picture and description among the photos in this review). Those who love paintings, you'll certainly enjoy the vast collection that includes Degas', Matisse's and Picasso's. Another surprise for me was their vast collection of stunning ancient pottery from Egypt, Iran and other cultures. Also on display is a massive array of amazing pottery from across Europe.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Went with a friend. I had never been before but my friend had. There is a section of the museum that you need to pay to get into but we didn't. It is free entry but you can make a donation if you wish. The architecture of the museum is stunning
Fantastische Erfahrung: Had a lovely day at the Fitzwilliam on a Sunday. They were debuting a new piece of art at the center of the gallery. Would recommend at least an hour, as the building is larger than it appears. The staff were both very friendly and helpful. Remember to store backpacks or holding them before viewing the art.
Fantastische Erfahrung: I recently visited with my nursery for an experience with the children and it was amazing, the studio room was beautiful and so calming, I got so inspired for activities to take back for the nursery. The new art gallery display with the older generation art mixed with the newer generation art was so interesting and you can really tell the difference in the art, more colourful and bright, more illusions etc, very lovely museum :)
Fantastische Erfahrung: A hidden gem in Cambridge. Those who have interest in civilizations will like it. As an Indian, it brought out some uncomfortable events about dark times of British colonialism.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Absolutely beautiful and there is so much art to see! Definitely a must see.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Very nice museum, with good exhibits and artefacts. The building itself is absolutely fantastic, and was a joy to look through historical objects.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic free experience. A walk through history. The building is as amazing as the displays!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Excellent museum. Good artwork that covers many eras. Good ancients section, including from unusual areas in the ancient world.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Amazing place, seems to have something for everyone here as it is absolutely huge — could definitely spend a while here. A beautiful building also with lovely staff. Free entry which was amazing considering the scale. Definitely worth a visit.
Fantastische Erfahrung: You could visit this place a hundred times and still see something new, there are masses of things to see. I have only been in once so far and that was for a very quick visit because I was early for a meeting nearby. I will revisit again very soon.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Lovely gallery!!! Got there for opening time so there was no queue and I'd recommend stopping in the little cafe while you're here, the coffee is really quite good!
Fantastische Erfahrung: The day i went was Tuesday , not very crowded it was easy to get in i didnt take full ticket but i would be able to see lots still
Fantastische Erfahrung: The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge is a special place full of interesting things to see and do. Here's a simple guide to help you plan your visit: Getting Tickets: Getting tickets is easy. The admission is free for all. Just show up and enter. However, you need to do prior booking for exhibitions. Parking: There's no parking at the museum, but you can find limited parking nearby on the streets or in parking garages. It might be a short walk, but the museum is in a convenient location. Accessibility: The museum wants everyone to be able to visit. They have ramps and elevators for people who use wheelchairs. They also have accessible bathrooms to make sure everyone feels comfortable. What to See: Inside the museum, you'll find all sorts of interesting things. There are old artifacts and modern artworks to explore. It is divided region wise. The museum is easy to walk around, so you can take your time looking at everything. Moreover, they allow you to take pictures without the flash. Guided Tours: If you want to learn even more about the exhibits, you can join a guided tour. Knowledgeable guides will tell you interesting facts about the things you see. It's a great way to learn new things! Café and Gift Shop: After you've seen everything, you can relax in the museum café. They have drinks and snacks to enjoy. Don't forget to visit the gift shop too, where you can buy souvenirs to remember your visit.
Fantastische Erfahrung: The Fitzwilliam Museum stands as a beacon of cultural richness and artistic marvels. Its hallowed halls house an exquisite collection that spans centuries and continents. As you step inside, the air crackles with the energy of masterpieces – from ancient artifacts to Renaissance paintings. The museum's architecture whispers tales of tradition, while its galleries ignite curiosity. Here, you'll find delicate porcelain, intricate manuscripts, and the haunting gaze of a Rembrandt portrait. Each brushstroke, each chiseled curve, invites contemplation. Let's not forget the grandeur of the Egyptian mummies – guardians of secrets lost in time. As sunlight filters through stained glass, you'll feel a kinship with humanity's creative spirit. The Fitzwilliam Museum isn't just a repository; it's a sanctuary for wonder and reflection.
Positive Erfahrung: A splendid early spring afternoon spent browsing the museum's William Blake exhibition. The exhibition is spread out over three rooms with plenty of space to peruse. We spent some time afterwards looking at our favourite paintings and pottery.
Fantastische Erfahrung: I've visited the Fitzwilliam many times (I grew up in Cambridge) and it never fails to inspire, educate and delight me. My most recent visit was to view the William Blake exhibition. You may not necessarily enjoy the work on display, but the settings in which the works are displayed are always engaging using coloured walls and 'viewing holes' and other devices to bring a different perspective or dimension to the work. The Blake exhibition was quite popular and somewhat busy, but still pleasant to walk through. The rest of the museum holds a fantastic and diverse range of exhibits with something to interest almost anyone. My list of favourite items continues to include a 'grandfather' clock, not because it's exceptionally beautiful (it is), but because you can gently place your ear on its case and listen to the mechanism inside reeling in the future. Whether you are an history buff, into design, engineering, art, coins, ceramics or just how things are created and made, it's a fabulous place to visit and if you're not into the exhibits then take in the architecture. If none of that appeals then the gift shop contains a lovely range of items (hunting for a gift for that difficult to buy for person?) from practical to purely decorative and the café next door serves great coffee along with lots of other drinks, snacks and meals. I will continue to be drawn back to the Fitzwilliam and will continue to find new and exciting every time. As far as value for money goes, it definitely is! You pay what you want to enter. It is with booking for the exhibitions so that you know you'll be able to get in, but you can rock up when you like to see the permanent displays. I am a lifelong devotee and wish I still lived in Cambridge so I could visit more easily.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Don't miss this place if you visit Cambridge , you could easily spend a whole day or more wandering around the exhibits. For me the only negative was the cafe, the coffee was half froth and while the scone was excellent it was delivered with some hobble fake wiped cream
Fantastische Erfahrung: Great collection of artifacts!! Well maintained and informative. Free to visit
Fantastische Erfahrung: It was such a beautiful experience at the Fitzwilliam Museum. Although most of the art works are appreciated by just viewing and not touching, they’re still worth viewing. The entire museum is really big and the facilities are also good. It’s a very picturesque place, has a disability entrance as well. There’s also a table with supplies to draw and paint. Helpful assistants as well. We appreciated the moment.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Most impressive entrance hall. Vast collection of very cool items. Love the Egyptian rooms and the Armour section. Very good cafe and gift shop. Bus stops right outside.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful place to explore the art and antiquities. Plenty of rooms to explore and learn more about art and world history. Have lovely cafe place too and if you would love to get souvenirs they have shop for that too. Easy access to toilets. Definitely a must see place when visiting Cambridge.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Stunning architecture, the Egyptian culture part was also amazing.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Visit is free and the museum is really wide with lots to offer both for history and art lovers.
Fantastische Erfahrung: Free entrance! We might have gotten lucky, but there was no entrance fee and the museum was not too crowded. Definitely worthy of visiting!
Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic museum. So much beautiful history and stunning architecture! Also the entry is totally free so if you are in Cambridge for the day and you have nothing to do it is 100% worth a visit!
Fantastische Erfahrung: It was beautiful! Magnificient!! There is a lot to explore and learn I love paintings hence its the only photos that i have
Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum is stunning, with classic-style interior architecture. The Middle East section is perfect, showcasing incredible ancient artwork masterpieces. The sculpture by Reza Aramesh is amazing, and at first, it freaked me out because the eyes look so real.
Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum was stunning with fascinating exhibits. Its aesthetics were simply amazing, and it felt like stepping into another world. However, its small size limited the number of displays and I felt a little bit constrained. It's absolutely worth a visit for its beauty but expect a short tour due to limited content. Watch the ceiling
