Fantastische Erfahrung: Was really nice. It's paid, but I feel it's worth it. There are boat rides available behind the museum and an ice cream boat, which is also nice.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Good museum, tries to reach young audience through innovative means. We visited on a rainy day to get some respite. Can be completed in a couple of hours.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Not a large museum but informative and fun. It's child-friendly and covers a range of distinct periods within the history of what is now Yorkshire - from the Jurassic era to the Medieval.

Positive Erfahrung: This was overwhelming... Don't get me wrong the collection is AMAZING. It was just so much to sink in and so much text to read. We may have missed it or it wasn't clear but an audio book I think would have been really good for this place. Or make several visits if you have time. I think the main parts I struggled with it sometimes felt like we kept jumping back and forth between different time periods like here's some Tudor stuff oh look we're back to Vikings. I'm not diagnosed with ADHD but I struggled to stand still whilst my bf kept reading the endless facts. (Which isn't a bad thing). I just couldn't concentrate... I'm a very visual learner so seeing lots of walls of text was slightly daunting which is why I think an audio guide would have been so much better! There is KIDS stuff to interact with which is cool. I think they are needed for such a full on factual packed museum. One thing that I did really struggle with was the naming system they had. Where they have the things numbered then on the side it'll tell you which thing is related to that number. I don't know why but I had to keep asking my bf which is which because sometimes I didn't get it. You'd think labelling each one with numbers would be easy but for some reason it wasn't in some cases .

Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic location for the Shed Seven homecoming concerts. Well organised and amazing scenery. Would like to come back and explore on a "normal" day.

Positive Erfahrung: My partner and I visited whilst we were in york. I would say the museum is more for kids, but the outside of the building and the gardens are beautiful to look at.

Fantastische Erfahrung: What a gem this spot is. From a stunning prehistoric fossil, through Iron Age ritual items, an extensive Roman collection, and even more Medieval pieces, this place really brings the history alive.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Lovely museum with loads of authentic exhibits from stone age onwards. Plenty to cater for adults and children (dinosaur and fossil exhibits, Roman dressing up, etc.) Some stairs as on three levels. Set in the lovely gardens and by ruins.

Positive Erfahrung: We visited on Saturday 2nd June with our w daughters 8 and 6, we thoroughly enjoyed this museum and the girls were treated to some Roman and Greek legends told by a very friendly and knowledgeable chap who invited them to stand on the Roman mosaic. He made the visit!!!

Positive Erfahrung: This is a lovely and interesting place to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Learned a lot about the area and its history. We had no difficulty getting in but during school holidays it maybe wise to book tickets in advance.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum has an interesting exhibition about the history of the city from the ice age until today. Some parts are not very well organised and the museum can defiantly benefit from a bit of modernisation but overall I'd still highly recommend a visit.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Two unique exhibits. One is the history of people in York from the end odd the ice age and the other is of York during the Jurassic period when it was part of the ocean floor. Definitely worth the money.

Positive Erfahrung: Interactive, bit pricey, but your ticket is open for 12 months . Great history tour. Child friendly, disabled access, in gorgeous surroundings. Love the gift shop.

Positive Erfahrung: We ran here as we have some spare time between booked places. It was relatively affordable and easy to find with beautiful gardens. They had an exhibit called star carr, and I'm sill not sure what it's about. The rest of the museum was really interesting.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum in a the heart of York. Yorkshire Museum is nestled in museum gardens so is perfect for families and those wanting to have a nice walk. Museum is really well resourced and good for young children (3 years old) to adults. The dinosaur exhibit is really interesting and well laid out. Worth a visit if you are coming to York.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Always a good day out, even if wet it's a nice tranquil walk through the gardens along the river, the gallery is great and very nice ice cream store at the entrance. Really close to bus stops and city center so can't get stranded for anything

Negative Erfahrung: Wife and I were looking forward to going but admissions charges turned us off, we'd already paid for York art gallery and other places. Most offer no concessions for OAPs. So much for encouraging culture! Funny how government has money to spare for free British Museum and its ilk in London while councils elsewhere are starved of funds for their local amenities.

Fantastische Erfahrung: A great local history museum. We spent about an hour in it and enjoyed the information and interactive elements. The gardens at the front of the museum are well worth a walk around or sit in.

Fantastische Erfahrung: I visited the museum on Tuesday 20th. I found the reception staff were ever so polite and kind, explaining the museum layout to me in great detail, and then pointed me in the direction of the first exhibit, which was about the Roman history of York. I loved the rooms enormously, and enjoyed the placards explaining each item as well as the items themselves. On to the next room, which was about the medieval history of York, and again, this area was intriguing and a kind gallery attendee was eager and ready to ask any questions I may have had, which was a really highlight as all staff members seemed to be very passionate about their work (and the joy on their faces when talking about the museum was heart-warming). The final room was about the Jurassic times, dinosaurs and fossils, and as with the previous rooms, there was plenty of explanation about each item and it's importance to York. One thing I loved was the idea that your entry to the museum (which is cheaper to book online) is valid for a year, so you pay once and can go all year. This is a really good draw for the museum, but I'd pay to go again.

Positive Erfahrung: Very interesting and lots of artefacts. Lovely staff and relaxed atmosphere. There's also stuff for kids to do here, like look for fossils, make coin impressions etc. The old library upstairs was nice.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Went specially for the dinosaur exhibition. Relatively small but had local artifacts. Dinosaur elements were the star of the show. Staff were friendly.

Positive Erfahrung: Great for local history. Very focused on kids' education and interactivity, so if you're really into history and archaeology, don't plan on spending masses of time.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Absolute gem of a museum. Great size, incredibly high quality exhibits covering fossils, neolithic, Roman, and more modern periods. Great for kids too (with topical costumes to wear in most rooms!). Definitely worth the ticket price and ~1 hour it takes to see everything.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Really interesting museum, ranging from dinosaurs through mesolithic head dresses, Romans, Anglian rulers, Viking invaders, mediaeval life and Tudor dissolution of monasteries to civil war battles. The museum incorporates part of the ruins of St Mary's Abbey. There are great activities for children including lots if dressing up and the priviledge if walking over a Roman mosaic floor. Loved the icthyosaurus skeletons!

Fantastische Erfahrung: We had a great time, fab museum with interesting artefacts. Highlight was a talk we attended on the Vikings. The person giving the talk was so engaging and such a good speaker - this was the best, most interesting museum talk I have ever been to. They apologised for "waffling on" when answering questions at the end but in all honesty I could have sat and listened to them all day.

Positive Erfahrung: We saved a few quid by ordering tickets in advance, always a bonus. The staff were very accomodating and knowledgeable when answering your questions. The exhibits are well layed out by period, with written explanation of items. York is a very historical place and it's development over the centuries is well explained and shown throughout the museum.

Fantastische Erfahrung: My nine year old daughter and I hadn't actually planned to go in to this museum but as we walked through the gardens we were compelled to. So glad we did. It was so interesting with lots to see, very child friendly.

Fantastische Erfahrung: A lovely building set in very nice gardens, the building presents a excellent variety of local history ranging from fossils that are millions of years old, through Roman times - the little bust of Marcus Aurelius is awesome - and through into the Tudor period. Not a huge museum but full of interesting things.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Good price. I enjoyed the history of York, the inclusion of female dinosaur researchers, the history on the stone/bronze/iron age and the Romans involvement in the UK. Its a good size museum where you can read and engage in everything in about 3 hours.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great selection of exhibitions that should provide something to please everyone, all based around the local history of Yorkshire. The exhibitions contain a mixture of text and more interactive activities, as well as some displays specifically targeted to children. You can even pick up kids' activity sheets free of charge. On the top floor is a reading/quiet room for those looking for a bit of a sit down. The shop contains a range of gifts, including some quirkier offerings! The tickets are a little expensive but worth the money. The only annoying thing is that there is no cafe, but there is a mobile vendor outside - and there is no better way to enjoy your coffee than whilst walking around the museum's gorgeous gardens.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum to dive into and get away from the crowds. One of the best prehistoric experiences I've had in terms of things to look at and read etc. All the local exhibitions are also amazing. We'll worth the entry fee and the library was like something out of a storybook.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Good museum in centre of Museum Gardens in York. Had access card for entry which is worth looking into if you live in York. Good section showing dinosaurs and had dressing up clothes, books and film for children.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Visited the Yorkshire Museum with my husband, we hadn't originally planned this but had some free time before our train. We purchased tickets at the ticket desk and were informed these were annual tickets so good to know we can revisit at no extra cost! There was lots to look at (coins, skeletons found in and around York, mosaics, pottery, jurrasic skeletons and fossils!) and there was plenty of interactive exhibits too such as creating your own rubbings, or building a mosaic (do believe these are mostly aimed at kids so a good day out for families too!). Well worth a visit if you're in the area, we spent roughly an hour and half here so doesn't take up too much of your day either!

Positive Erfahrung: It loses its fifth star because of the admission price (£9.50). But it is a very good history museum. The roman and anglo-saxon rooms are magnificent. Walk-on (barefoot) roman mosaic.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great for visiting with kids

Positive Erfahrung: Nice place for a quick visit, this is a manageable size museum for seeing in about one hour or just over. I really enjoyed the Roman artifacts, the fossils, and particularly the explanation of how the prehistoric layers built up to form the rocks in what is now Yorkshire. The large ichthyosaur skeleton is very impressive. The prices were fair for the unique artifacts on show, and the museum was not too busy, so we could see everything very easily. The location is just near to the Marygate car park which is council run and easy to find, so this easy to fit in at the start or end of a day trip to York.

Positive Erfahrung: Excellent Roman and medieval exhibits. Especially the weapons and jewelry. But the whole museum is more focused on fun interactive learning for children.

Positive Erfahrung: Great museum child friendly, closes at 16.00 on Sunday. Worth a visit for reasonable price. Ice in summer to wonder around the gardens and view the Abbey remains. Staff are friendly and helpful

Negative Erfahrung: My little boy has autism and while we was there he was carrying his train around with him which makes noises. One of the workers in the fist exhibition (old blonde woman) decided to come over to us and ask if she could take his train off of him and take it to the front desk as it will be distracting for other people in the museum. What gave her the right to ask to take my boys stuff off of him because it might be distracting for others? It would’ve been more distracting if he was having a full blown meltdown. I shouldn’t of had to explain myself and my little boy to her. Me and my partner felt disgusted and embarrassed that she was questioning us. Also, the Jurassic world was absolutely poor, what a waste of time and money.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Very informative and helpful museum.

Fantastische Erfahrung: I went to the museum just before 4pm, worrying that I might not have enough time to see all the items in the museum. The museum staff Kayleigh Hunter came to my rescue. She led me and another visitor around the medieval hall, showed us the treasures and some of her favourites in the museum. I really love the way she shared the stories behind the artefacts. She talked about the Vikings just like some of her old friends. Thank you very much for the interesting introduction, Kayleigh :)

Fantastische Erfahrung: We have not been here for a while, so it was great to return. Fantastic new exhibits. Make sure you give plenty of time for your visit. Thoroughly recommended.

Positive Erfahrung: Fun interactive museum with lots of activities for children. Will take around 1 hour or so to go around. Plus little extra for gardens. Central York. Toilets but no cafe. Small shop. Little pricey for size of museum.

Fantastische Erfahrung: I went on a weekday without prebooking and got in without a wait but I would definitely prebook on a weekend or school holidays. It's not very big but that means you can really take in what is there. I also appreciate the seating which is available. I spent about 2 1/2 hours there and would recommend a visit

Fantastische Erfahrung: Really good place with so much to learn. My recommendation is to listen to the Anglo saxon talk. The girl who does it is knowledgeable, funny and friendly. She wrote it herself and deserves praise for that. It takes about 20 minutes but she explains things so well you learn alot. The whole place is brilliant though.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic museum. Love how there's a whole timeline going from prehistoric ages all the way to current times. Very friendly staff, made the experience even better. 100% would recommend a visit.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The gardens are wonderful with the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey but the museum was fantastic. Lots great pieces to look at and will easily spend 90 minutes to 2 hours wondering around. Much bigger and much more to explore inside than you'd think
