Positive Erfahrung: Went for The Barbie Exhibition. Very interesting exhibition and a lovely throwback to my own childhood.

Fantastische Erfahrung: This is one of my favourite museums in London and it is great for people of all ages! Needless to say, the design is obviously superb, but the exhibitions are so interesting and extensive, with topics from technology to fashion and furniture, and connecting different historical topics with relevant topics such as climate change! Would recommend!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Went for the Barbie exhibit. Didn't get a chance to see the rest of the place as we arrived later in the day, but what I could see looked interesting.

Negative Erfahrung: We thoroughly enjoyed the Barbie exhibition, unfortunately due to a poorly designed website we did not realise it was sold out for the coming days. We had enquired with three different staff about opportunities to experience the exhibition who were all fairly unwelcoming. We appreciated the mistake on our part due to the confusing site but were flying home before the next available date. Eventually we found a tall strawberry blonde gentleman who was amazingly helpful and happy to help us! He really made our day and we had a great time. The exhibition itself wasn’t super busy so I was puzzled why the other staff were so unbothered to get more footfall in the door!

Fantastische Erfahrung: What a fabulous experience. We attended for The Barbie Exhibition and it was great. The museum has a great layout and great balance of merchandise shops. Easy to access and they had fun things to do outside for the kids in the sun.

Negative Erfahrung: I’m not the measure of things etc but I thought this was a really really boring museum. The permanent exhibition is small and lazy at best with the same three design tropes you’ll find in any design museum (apple, a random chair, 3 D printing). If you have no knowledge of design it’s a good place to start but you’ll probably be bored out of your skull if you’ve ever looked at an iPhone from 10 years ago before. Didn’t go to the special exhibition (it’s quite expensive) because the permanent was so bad that we were afraid of wasting money on top of our time. I cannot recommend a visit here unfortunately. We were really excited to go as well London, I expected better :(

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great museum, free permanent exhibition at the top floor & 2 entry ticket exhibition space. Went here for both Enzo Mari & Barbie. Both are well-curated & enjoyable to explore.

Positive Erfahrung: Went to see an exhibition which was interesting. The museum has a lot to offer but probably not as well known as some of the others. You can get to it via Holland Park (Central Line) which is a very pleasant walk with lots to look at. Definitely worth a trip this summer.

Fantastische Erfahrung: First bit is specifically about the Barbie Exhibition that runs into early 2025, £15pp entry for us. Tickets run out way in advance so make sure you book beforehand, took us about an hour to have a good wander around. Absolutely fantastic selection of Barbie's and full of nostalgia. There were a couple films explaining things but mostly it was reading so have glasses at the ready! There were a couple Barbie's for kids to pose/play with but mostly the people attending were adults when we went (being adults ourselves we didn't mind). I would say I was expecting more from the film, this was very much about the doll with (from what I could see) only two or three bits from the film at the end. ------------------------------------------- General Review Very little on the ground floor, but the cafe is nice and there is a little gift shop (Never miss the gift shop). There is a cafe upstairs as well which is better appointed with soft chairs do id recommend that one over the one on the ground floor. A very cool space that can be rented out, good I think for businesses that have a large event. Upstairs there is a good space where there are lots of interactive videos which is great, but generally quite a bit smaller than we were expecting. You could do the whole thing in 45 minutes if you want to look at most stuff not in the specific exhibition spaces.

Positive Erfahrung: I visited the design museum as part of a school group, so my experience will be different to that or a regular visit, and I am also a Design Technology teacher, so I have a particular passion for this area of culture. Firstly, the building itself is stunning. From every angle there is something interesting to look at. The interior is cavernous and very fitting for the contents. It has a very minimal, clean and clinical feel, almost bordering insipid. The exhibits are well presented and the information besides each piece isn't overwhelming, yet informative enough to convey the meaning. The Designer, Maker, User exhibit was really interesting and engaging for the group of forty 12/13 year olds. Parts are interactive, with chairs to sit on, books to read and puzzles to complete. Whilst there, our group had access to a common room to store our bags and to sit down between workshops/exhibits. The workshops were well organised and engaging with designing and hands on activities. On the journey home, comments from students were a mix of "it was really fun" and "it was much better than I expected", so high praise from a teenager!! I have only removed a star because of the cafe... very minimal selection, fresh food is exposed and there were many flies around. The staff were lacking in customer service skills and the quality of the food wasn't great... very much form over function! I would recommend highly... its the first time I have been and I will definitely be going back to see the Barbie exhibition, which sadly we couldn't fit into our busy day.

Negative Erfahrung: Disappointed... remember the old one off Leicester Square.. way better, it was just lots of examples of great British design. The biggest selection of good design was in the shop.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Beautiful museum. Upon entry you may think it's small and not much, but the top floor will take some time. Definitely worth the visit. Amazing insights on design and the creative process.

Charlotte Edwards 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Really enjoyed the nostalgia of the Barbie exhibition - great experience, but ruined by the grumpy girl on the ticket desk wearing a Deutsche badge. 5pm was the end of her shift, she made it very clear she 'doesn't get paid overtime', and soured the end of the experience as she wouldn't let us spare 30 seconds to take a photo in the Barbie box. Shame!

Positive Erfahrung: Cool museum (architecture wise, really modern and cozy, but open), however I don’t like the exhibition.

Ames “TheGoogleReviewer” PA 5 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: Interesting exhibit on "designer maker, user" from whence everything comes. Shows the progressions of computers, pens, chairs, camera, apple products, etc. The museum is free. The Enzo Mari exhibit needed a paid ticket.

Fantastische Erfahrung: After being a frequent visitor over the past three years, I would like to say a huge thank you to the talented and kind staff. The museum itself is beautifully curated, welcoming visitors of all ages, from very little people to the elderly. There is a good mix of permanent and changing exhibitions that truly broaden one's mind. For regular visitors, I would recommend the annual membership which gets you into new and popular exhibitions before the crowds. The architecture and interior design, which changed and evolved over the years, demonstrates the team's talent and focus on visitor experience. Thank you for many special memories!

Fantastische Erfahrung: The museum was easy to find. Some exhibitions are free of charge which is why we went. The museum was very clean, modern, displays were Plenty of toilets on the 2nd flr. Lift available for easy access. Exhibitions on display were very creative and told a good story.

Amanda Deacon 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: I went to see two current exhibitions - Barbie and also Enzo Mari. Both interesting in different ways. Barbie is very colourful and pink and showcases the different models of dolls and styles of clothing throughout the eras. Enzo Mari's designs consist of graphic designs, artwork, installations and some paintings. I admired the mathematical precision and looked around this exhibition several times, noticing a different angle each time.

Bronwyn Ellis-Richards 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Small but perfectly formed. A must-visit for any design nerd, just a short journey from London’s museum district. Mostly free with some paid for exhibits. Gutted to miss out on the Barbie exhibition that will sure be amazing. Great shop which always help!

Positive Erfahrung: The Design Museum presents a truly refreshing atmosphere with its immaculate cleanliness and abundant spaces where one can comfortably rest and reflect. The ambiance is genuinely inviting, making it a pleasant place to visit. However, I must admit that the exhibitions did not quite meet my expectations. While the museum's setting is impeccable, the displays themselves lacked a certain captivating quality. They failed to fully engage me, which was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, the museum excels in providing a serene environment, but it could benefit from more dynamic and intriguing exhibitions to match its splendid surroundings.

Antonina Pavlenko 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: What an impressive place, and not just for designers. Walking through its exhibits, I felt as if I had stepped into one of the most captivating books on design. The museum is an inspiring space, full of interesting artifacts and displays that engage visitors. The storytelling throughout the exhibitions is fantastic, guiding you seamlessly from one fascinating piece to the next. Whether you're a design enthusiast or simply curious, this museum offers a unique and enriching experience. Would highly recommend and would love to visit again soon

Fantastische Erfahrung: Visiting The Design Museum in London was an experience that resonated deeply with my passion for art, design, and culture. The moment I stepped inside, I felt an immediate connection to the vibrant and innovative atmosphere that filled the space. The museum's architecture itself is a marvel, with its modern design and open spaces that invite exploration and reflection. As someone who runs two Japanese co-working spaces in Cebu, I found the seamless blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal particularly inspiring. The way the museum balances these elements reminded me of the principles I strive to incorporate in my own workspaces: creating environments that are not only practical but also visually stimulating and conducive to creativity. The exhibits were nothing short of captivating. Each one told a story, not just of the objects themselves, but of the people, cultures, and histories behind them. The permanent collection, showcasing everything from fashion to digital design, felt like a journey through the evolution of human creativity. It was fascinating to see how design influences and reflects societal changes, an intersection that piqued my interest as someone who loves delving into the psychological aspects of art and design. One of the highlights was the Designer Maker User exhibition, which offered an engaging look at the roles of designers, makers, and users in the design process. The interactive elements were particularly enjoyable, allowing for a hands-on experience that brought the concepts to life. This approach to learning and engagement is something I deeply appreciate and hope to incorporate more into my own professional endeavors. What struck me the most was the museum's dedication to not just preserving but also celebrating design in all its forms. The temporary exhibitions, which change regularly, provide fresh perspectives and keep the experience dynamic and exciting. During my visit, I was lucky enough to catch an exhibition on sustainable design, which resonated with my interest in how we can create beautiful yet environmentally responsible solutions in our everyday lives. Walking through the museum, I couldn't help but draw parallels between the innovative spirit of the exhibits and the vibrant entrepreneurial culture of Cebu. Both places, though different in many ways, share a commitment to pushing boundaries and fostering creativity. It was a reminder of the universal language of design and its power to connect people across different backgrounds and experiences. Overall, The Design Museum is more than just a museum; it's a celebration of human ingenuity and a testament to the impact of thoughtful design. It left me inspired, not only as an art and design enthusiast but also as a professional dedicated to creating meaningful and inspiring spaces.

Marguerite Wang 6 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: Quite a small collection. The focus seems more on temporary exhibits and events, which can be disappointing for those looking for a comprehensive exploration of design history. The museum's café and gift shop are well-curated. Overall, the Design Museum is worth a visit for design enthusiasts, but it may not live up to expectations for those seeking a more traditional museum experience.

Gary Riseborough 6 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: Good place to spend two hours while the weather is bad. Other than that, it's really for design nerds. I wasn't too interested in the displays, personally. The greenery of Kyoto gardens is much more interesting, but of course they can make for a great half day out together.

Bruno Carr 6 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: Interesting museum in great building. Free galleries great but paid exhibitions are quite expensive for what you get, fairly small.

Positive Erfahrung: It's good for a quick stop /rest if you're in the area, especially on a rainy day. I'm glad we didn't plan a day around it. The museum is in a beautiful space, and the exhibits are planned/executed with care—there are just not very many in the free area. Kudos for having a restroom take it to 4 stars.

Positive Erfahrung: Lovely building. Not an enormous amount to see but it is free except for special exhibitions so I can't complain. Some of the stuff on show is really up itself and a bit rubbish tbh. The restaurant on the top floor is very stylish and reasonably priced considering the area you are in. I'd pop in again for lunch and to use the toilets alone.

Fantastische Erfahrung: What a treat to be able to squeeze this little and marvellous museum into my London visit! I 100% recommend it, even if you are not into design, just for the building, which is incredible! The top floors are free and have the permanent exhibition, whereas on the ground floor there are the temporary exhibitions, which you pay for like in other museums. Beautiful location, lovely cafe!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Probably the best cultural institution in West London. Timeless classic designs - free admission - and thought provoking temporary exhibitions, a reasonably priced annual membership (cheaper than most other London museums). Café- restaurant on the second floor is now opened after refurbishment, offering great views, and of course designers interiors. Laptop lovers now have many tables on the ground floor.

Fantastische Erfahrung: A lovely place to visit to get inspiration when you get a designer’s block. Also, there is a whole wall of “vintage” devices from the yesteryears which made me feel nostalgic. Not sure if that’s a permanent exhibit. But it was a beautiful curation for one to walk down memory lane.

The Closet Tenor 8 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: One of London’s lesser known museums, but definitely very rewarding for lovers of modern design. It focuses on design of the second half of the 20th century, and offers an intriguing peak into the thinking of modern designers.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The Design Museum is a museum located in the South Kensington area of London, United Kingdom. It was established in 1989 and is situated next to Holland Park. The museum showcases a wide range of collections with a focus on product design, industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, and architectural design. It is a stylish museum that features a café inside where visitors can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Mimi Villaret 8 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: Saw the designer artist Enzo Mari exhibition which is a priced ticketed event. Good array of his many products on display but felt some items could have been better situated within the exhibition by whoever curated it.

Miranda 8 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: although i find the main exhibition on the top floor overwhelming and hard to digest due to its density, the museum showcased some interesting artifacts. it was cool to see some real pieces of critical and speculative design. the temporary exhibit on contemporary response to enzo was very cool. 1-3pieces from a collection of artists / studios spoke to different aspects of enzo’s design philosophy and each piece on their own was very powerful. the museum building has some thoughtful designs too, incl the materials for exhibit captions as well as sensor-based sinks in the bathrooms. the cons are that the cafe is poorly rated (but not surprised) and the design store is overly priced (again not surprised). overall, this is exactly what a world class metropolitan city like london should have, but there are still areas of improvements.

Positive Erfahrung: My recent trip to the Museum of Design in London was truly fantastic! One of the best parts? It's completely free, which means anyone can explore its wonders without spending a penny. Inside, there's so much to see and learn! From cool historical stuff to modern designs, I was blown away by the variety of exhibits. Whether you're into buildings, clothes, gadgets, or art, there's something for everyone here. I had a blast checking out all the different displays and learning about how design has changed over time. It was super interesting and gave me a whole new appreciation for creativity!Overall, I'd totally recommend visiting the Museum of Design. It's free, fun, and full of cool stuff to see. I'm definitely planning on going back again soon! In my book, the Museum of Design gets a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Fantastische Erfahrung: The design museum is situated on Kensington High Street and celebrates the cleverness and innovation of product design. Throughout the generations, the importance of design and how it is perceived by the public has been the driving force when manufacturing groundbreaking products. What is quite fascinating when you walk around the museum is that the number of items that once were at the forefront of technology have now been superceded. The museum is housed in a building that epitomises cutting-edge design.

Positive Erfahrung: The Design Museum is located at Kensington, London & is dedicated to displays of product, industrial, graphic, fashion & architectural design. Part of the museum is free to visit but like any other mainstream museum they hold various types of paid exhibitions throughout the years. I think I personally found the architecture of the museum building itself maybe even more interesting than what it houses. A very impressive building. You won’t spend a full day at this venue, so a recommendation is that you pop along to one of the many other museums located nearby such as the Science Museum or the Natural History Museum, etc. There are toilets located on site.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The moment walked in, fell in love with it right away. Full of various design display, it’s joyful to walk around if you love design. Not a very big place, but it’s free of charge, very generous already. Worth to come if visit Kensington Garden / Hyde Park which are nearby.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Another fantastic museum in London which is also free and located near famous Holland park and Kensington. It is not a big as other Kensington museums so I feel around 1-2 hours are more than enough to visit all artifacts. It does cover various aspects of design in our life and product displayed are from various eras are very interesting. I will recommend plan your visit combined with visit to Holland park and Kensington high street and you will have plenty to do for entire day.

Positive Erfahrung: We stumbled across this museum accidentally and decided to take a look. Free entry for the main exhibits, and an admission fee for the exhibitions. Lovely, light cavernous building, with wood being the primary material on the interior. Some great history on the designs of gadgets, technology and household items over the years. Plenty to see for the adults, not so much interest for young kids though.

My kids skate ramps like this all the time and last time I checked there's no age limit on skateboarding in the Olympics!

The 2nd floor with building materials is definitely cool for kids whereas they are less familiar with vintage objects however seing some objects done with 3D printer is mind blowing for all the family. The shop is amazing with great books selection. Overall the atmosphere is very chill.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Really nice museum. The permanent display - Designer, maker, user is great, with a lot of historical stuff on the design as well as the making and using of things around us, from computers to kitchens. The other displays were interesting as well, relatively light in the depth and time you need to invest as a visitor which is nice. Not a great museum for small kids, I think anyone under 6 will have very little to do here if at all.

Evan Duke 1 year ago

Positive Erfahrung: I found it very good, well thought out but there wasn't too much outside of the "Design, Maker, User" permanent exhibition.
