🗣️ High Museum of Art: Meinungen

Positive Erfahrung: It's such a big museum with huge collections of different kinds of art. I was visiting Atlanta from Mexico so I decided to focus on the American Art collection, which I highly recommend you to do if you want to learn about the affluent American society of the nineteenth century and early twentieth. A great deal of history can be gleaned from observing the art and designs of those times. I enjoyed the pieces of furniture included in this collection. I spent two hours enjoying it all and I would have stayed more if it hadn't been (and this is why I give only 4 stars to this place) because the museum allowed a sick man to walk through the place: he was coughing loudly and clearing his throat at every turn, hacking his lungs out as if he had tuberculosis, it was awful. It tainted my experience of the museum so much that I decided to leave after only two hours, when I could have stayed for much more. I was there on the morning of Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in case anyone would like to check who were in attendance in the American Art collection that day.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The most entertaining piece of interactive art is the infinity mirror. You can get lost in the reflections.

Brian Dible 4 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Definitely enjoyed this museum during my visit to Atlanta. Was trying to find attractions that were free or close to it. This museum offered free admission for a veteran and one guest. Unfortunately they are in process of changing that and making it active duty only. That is unfortunate. Enjoyed the layout of the floors. Easy to go through without getting lost.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Amazing museum, gives you a glimpse of how art has evolved over time. Can spend a few days here.

Fantastische Erfahrung: 5 stars is right! This place had everything. Painting, sculptures, modern, classic, glassware, interactivity, diversity, photography, larger than life art, and more! I felt dwarfed by some of the pieces here. It was breath taking. The museum elevator wasn't working when we went but they do have ramps all the way to the top floor. They have a small cafe and a coffee shop within walking distance. Parking is close and it's 30$ for the day. 25 each to enter the museum. Gift shop has a variety of stuff and the prices are okay. Bathrooms were clean and accessible.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Highlights outside of the exhibitions Oasis and Friday Nights (Jazz and Frequency Fridays) are my favorite activities at the museum.

Brittany Mac 4 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: The experience of 3rd Fridays Jazz Sessions is amazing. It's such a great time. Prepurchase your tickets so you can skip the line. There is limited parking so plan ahead or arrive early. The show is over promptly at 10pm and the security starts to usher people out. There is usually a food vendor outside but no food available for purchase inside. No food or drinks allowed in the gallery areas. Get there early and get a good spot and secure it for the evening. There is no reserved seating. Seating is limited so I'd highly recommend comfortable shoes.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Very nice exhibit with Dutch still life from the 17th century! Multiple floors with art from different parts of the world. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Atlanta!

Fantastische Erfahrung: It was beautiful and we went on the 2nd Sunday of the month, which is always free! Highly recommend, you didn't need to purchase tickets as well this day!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Awesome art, and so many exhibits to see. It's easy to get lost, but you have cool things to look at!

Negative Erfahrung: I recently visited the current exhibition "Dutch Art in a Global Age: Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston". I was shocked to see that the painting they display as Jan van Huysum Dutch, I682-I749 Flowers in a Terracotta Vase, 1730 was not his work. What they have in the museum under this description is the work of Mélanie de Comolera (French, 1789-1854) "Peonies, roses, carnations, an iris, anemones.." How is this even possible?!

Chad Kurena 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: What a great day! The kids and I spent about three hours and still didn’t see the whole collection. They had a blast in the kids’ play areas and I had to drag them out of there to look at art. They even begged to go back to it before the museum closed. Nice time, go early.

Kye 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: The spiral staircase reminded me of the Guggenheim Museum. A significant portion of the museum is dedicated to African American artists, fittingly representing the city of Atlanta.

Caroline Hernandez 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Came with family to see the Dutch exhibit and I was just blown away by the beauty of it all. Am now a member and look forward to coming back soon to further explore the museum.

Fantastische Erfahrung: This museum has a large collection with a wide range of art from many different eras, regions, and styles. The temporary exhibits are always worth seeing. The friendly employees make for a pleasant visit. If you go in the summer, bring a sweater if you will be uncomfortable in a very cool interior. Buying tickets online was very easy.

Samanta R. 5 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: First time coming here, it was a nice visit. I wasn't sure if they had their own parking so we parked in the street. If there's a next time I'll try to go earlier, I didn't get to go see the full 4th floor due to closing.

Fantastische Erfahrung: My husband and I enjoyed a Second Sunday visit, sponsored by UPS. We walked with a docent (Juliana) for a highlights tour.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Atlanta’s High Museum of Art is one of the best in the South. Monet, Degas, Sargent, Hopper to name a few. Besides the Varsity and the World of Coca-Cola, the High is a must see in Atlanta.

Ratna Khatri 6 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: It is an interesting museum to spend 2-3 hours in Midtown Atlanta. It has paintings and sculptures by various artists. The special exhibit on Dutch Art is interesting. They have the Veiled Rebekah marble statue by Giovanni. It's amazing to see the translucent veil on the statue's face in person. Culverhouse's Moonlit Market painting is amazing.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Free for military. Lots of great art to see, the place is huge and they have a wonderful gift shop. Some of the pieces are priceless and other with millions. Truly an experience to remember.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Plan at least 4 hours to see this place. It's awesome and has something for everyones fancy

Leonard Anderson 7 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Well designed. Good amount of staff available for questions. Good flow and spectacular art exhibits. Great variety. Clean and helpful. Great location. Educational and informative.

Jack Casterella 7 months ago

Negative Erfahrung: The actual art part of this museum and the overall experience is excellent, but there are some severe signage issues regarding what floor you're on that makes riding the elevator for ADA users and everyone else extremely confusing. When you're on the top level, it is referred to as level S, the Skyway level. But when you are on any other floor, it's referred to as floor 4, and the elevator is also referred to as floor 4. When you arrived a floor 4 within the elevator, it opens to reveal that you're on floor S, which leads to long and confusing interactions between users as nobody knows what's going on or where they are. Signage can make a huge difference to the experience. My hope is this gets remedied soon for everyone!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Had a great experience here on the "All Access" day! We were able to get our tickets for free online and spend the day at the museum. There were musicians playing in the lobby and the exhibits were great. Especially loved the Edgefield, SC pottery exhibit (might be temporary exhibit). A great way to spend the afternoon!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Fantastic, well structured exposition. You may spend an hour or a full day. Worth every recommendation.

Fantastische Erfahrung: The stimulation of black potters- _______once known. Powerful. Self taught art. The only section that made me pull out my camera. And the architect was everything the Getty Center promised. The whitest white with beautiful curves and elevations.

Angelica Wilson 7 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: I went here in April over the weekend it was lovely, the art was so beautiful! I was a little disappointed as there was one section I was not able to view as there seemed to be an event for parents and children in the entire space. Loved all the Black art and the museum itself is very nice!

Sabrina Friel 7 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: This place is so cool to visit. I was born and raised here but still finding some of the best things to do around. This is by far now one of my favorite places to go and visit. My daughter and I visited along with her 10th grade Art class from the Georgia Connections Academy. My only recommendation would be to plan on being here for the better part of your day. There are so many different Art Galleries that you can find yourself getting lost wandering around all the amazing art pieces that are on display.

Matthew A 7 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Went a couple weekends ago, and it was a very nice experience. The customer service reps at the front desk were very cordial, and in fact helped us get free tickets that weekend. The exhibits are very nice; my partner especially appreciated the wooden black bear statue. Fair prices at the outdoor cafe. Highly recommend to anyone in Atlanta as an enjoyable and relaxing activity.

Meiyan Wu 8 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: There are some pretty good artworks. But generally a small and plain art place.

kaith leen 8 months ago

Negative Erfahrung: Giving this one star because the membership is NOT worth it. The prices continue to go up for fun events like High Frequency Friday, and it makes it more difficult for people to attend. Not sure what the deal is in Atlanta where they do not want everyday people enjoying things without breaking the bank. The High Museum contributes to it too by constantly changing things and making it difficult for people to enjoy things. Who do these $30 ticket prices serve? If you need an adult night, make one of the Friday events a 25+ event only but young people deserve to have access to this space too as it is one of the few museums of this size in the city. I’m embarrassed to have wasted my money on a membership here and can’t even bring a friend with me. Waste of money and any tax subsidies this place gets is a waste of our community dollars. Shame on The High for making art inaccessible, yet again!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Such a great place to visit here in Atlanta. I’ve been for things such as jazz night and also just to bring the kids during the day. Beautiful exhibits and even fun interactive things for the kids (and adults)

Brittany S. 9 months ago

Fantastische Erfahrung: Came here for Jazz night and what an amazing experience! Tony Hightower has an impeccable voice and the band especially Kenny Banks Jr. on the keys were fantastic. I also took the hour tour and got to see the art surrounding the LOVE theme.

M S 9 months ago

Positive Erfahrung: The museum has a lot of interesting pieces, but it should be better. It's not keeping up with Atlanta, in that it feels like it belongs in a mid-sized metro, not what we are anymore. It doesn't compare to MMA in New York or the DIA in Detroit, for example. One thing that really irritated me was some Hudson River era art that is stacked up on a wall to the ceiling with the lights reflecting on it, so it is very hard to see. The line to get in (on a Sunday) was quite long, as was the line for the $20 parking. I bailed on that at last second and lucked out and found street parking. The facility is very modern, and not for those for whom heights are a thing by the way. There are some lovely and important works, so it's good to see them, but eh, I'm rating it average.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Such an impressive collection at the High Museum of Art! Loved exploring the diverse artworks, from classic to contemporary. The special exhibits are always top-notch. A must-see for art lovers!

Nick Wright 9 months ago

Negative Erfahrung: Tickets were free. I won them from a radio contest. Museum is ok. Atlanta is not. Why go there ever? The city isn't worth your time. Stay out and away. If you live here in the area. Bummer.

Fantastische Erfahrung: I was fortunate enough to spend some time in this elegant museum today! There was a plethora of beautiful collections from very diverse cultures. I was able to see some wonderful pieces from Mary Cassatt, Julie Mehretu, El Anatsui, and more! On the other hand, I sadly missed a Monet and Sonya Clark exhibition. I was met with some lovely empty space where the Monet used to reside. I loved the interior design of the museum; it felt very modern and simple in a nice way. I highly recommend taking a visit to the fabulous High Museum of Art!

Fantastische Erfahrung: Always a fantastic experience at the High Museum. Be sure to check out their seasonal exhibitions and carve out at least 3-4 hours to peruse through the entire collection, and wear comfortable shoes!

Fantastische Erfahrung: I have been in Atlanta too long to have never been to the High Museum. My first visit was during their Oasis event where the focus is meditative and peaceful. There were yoga classes, sound baths and discusses on art in spiritual practices. I loved it and the exhibits.

Allison Budnick 10 months ago

Negative Erfahrung: Do not recommend taking your toddler for the free 1st Sunday event. Was super disappointed all around! Kids’ rooms are closed which is the main reason we went. $20 to park. The free art box took 30 minutes of waiting in line. You had to enter all your info as well as your child’s just to get a pencil box that contained a blank pad and crayons. The art project room was outside the High and just a large room with tables set up with stamps and crayons. It was so loud I could not even hear my friend next to me. This was a complete waste of time and $. The art we did see was super boring and my toddler just wanted to leave. I had hyped this event up to her thinking it would be so much fun for her and her friends. We all agreed it was a huge waste of our Sunday. Should’ve gone to Boomerang for way more fun!

Sofiya Tarasevich 10 months ago

Negative Erfahrung: We went on a Friday night to an event called Oasis. Going there will cost you $50 ($30 ticket + $20 parking) and for this price I don’t think it was worth it. Yoga class was full before the event began so I didn’t even get to go (my friends managed to get two spots so I just waited for them), both yoga rooms had too many people in them and it was pretty noisy. Meditation and labyrinth that were listed in the program weren’t there at all. Art making class wasn’t really a class, it was just a spot where people made collages with pictures from magazines and glue, like in kindergarten. I was hoping it will be something more immersive like a pottery class or acrylic painting. Basically, it was just an overpriced and overcrowded yoga class that I didn’t ever get to go to. The only part I enjoyed was the exhibition on the second floor (it has some interesting works: Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, etc.), I would recommend just going there during regular business hours to enjoy the art.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Very nice weekend event, wear comfy shoes ladies because it’s a lot of walking around the museum etc. The artwork was excellent and we truly enjoyed the experience, that was free on Sunday. Check it out

Fantastische Erfahrung: A very nice collection of modern, contemporary, classical and impressionist art as well as photography and sculpture collections. Located in midtown with ample parking and close access to public transportation (MARTA). Free access on certain holidays like MLK day.

Fantastische Erfahrung: First visit, and I've been in GA for 26 years. I was amazed at the artwork and facilty. The staff was helpful. Perfect for a date and gathering with friends; much to talk about. I've posted a few of my absolute favorites. The venue is spacious and pristine. 3 floors, stairs with a view, may be scary if you are afraid of heights. There are huge elevators for use. The experience was exceptional. I visited on a Sunday so quite a number of people yet still plenty of elbow room. As far as time, we leisurely perused for nearly 2 hours, but you can see it all in less time.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Everyone should visit! ⭐️FREE Second Sundays ⭐️HIGH Frequency Fridays are littt ⭐️Fun & funky art ⭐️Great for kids & adults

Fantastische Erfahrung: Take a tour! Preferably with Hannah Amuka, their Coordinator of Gallery Experiences if she’s available. I’ve been coming to the High Museum for over two decades since I was in elementary school and I began my membership with them fresh out of college, so I’ve had my fair share of visits to this museum. Nonetheless, I’ve never felt more immersed and connected to the artwork as I did while being guided through to see select pieces by Hannah during a YP event. Her passion and expertise was infectious. She gave us insight that you would expect to receive on a tour, but the real wow factor was her consistent and graceful challenge to us to contemplate on each piece, to ask questions of the work we were viewing, to ask questions of ourselves, how it affected us, our perceptions of its purpose and impact, and so much more. She held our hands in the proverbial sense and took us deeper and for the first time I felt connected to the museum and the pieces it holds. She created a safe space for dialogue and diversity of thought. The art became so much more than a pretty picture or sculpture to look at. As I walked through the museum with her and group of what started as strangers, those pieces became bridges, fasteners and links, connecting us to the artist, their culture, all of our emotions and perceptions, a collective community, and both the past and the present. So take a tour, and hopefully you’re privileged to experience one led by Hannah, who is purely phenomenal, but in the event she’s unavailable I’m still confident that it will elevate your experience there.

Positive Erfahrung: This a beautiful place to admire and learn about art and history. You can visit with family and friends. They also have new exhibitions from time to time. The staff is also very friendly. I gave it a 4 stars since there were parts of the museum that were dirty and had dust under certain pieces particularly on the floor. I arrived right before they opened so one would think that they would have the place clean and ready.

Positive Erfahrung: The High Museum of Art is the largest museum for visual art in the South. It’s Located in Atlanta, Georgia (on Peachtree Street in Midtown, the city's arts district), the High is 312,000 square feet. Cafe was closed but they did have a small kiosk of sorts. Bring your wallet.

Fantastische Erfahrung: This is an excellent museum. There are a variety of exhibits featuring all kinds of art. The architecture itself is also stunning and adds to the museum. There is a lot of natural lighting as well which helps. If you live in the area, I suggest getting the annual pass because you can bring guests. There are also discounts for students, seniors and more.

Fantastische Erfahrung: When we went, it wasn’t overly crowded but still a lot of people. I wouldn’t say it’s that small, there were many floors with a lot of pieces. Admission is under $20. Not too bad. Museum was clean and staff was pleasant. It took me a few hours to look at everything. I don’t go too fast in case I miss something.

Fantastische Erfahrung: By far the highlight of my recent trip to Atlanta. Wish there was an exhibition of oriental art, but the exhibitions they do have are vast and maintained meticulously. The marble statues are an incredible sight to behold in person and are the results of incredibly talented artists and craftsmen. A great spot to visit even if you aren't super into art, but if you are, make time to spend 2-3 hours here minimum.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Looking for a FREE family or date event!!! Well this is one of my favorites. I have enjoyed it so much that I took my daughter when she was still about 10 and she is 26 and my son since he was six months and now 8. The High Museum of Atlanta offers FREE 3rd Saturdays of each month AND some Sundays (check their website for more details). But this is DEFINITELY worth driving in circles on Peachtree waiting to get a FREE parking ( yes , I don’t like paying for lots of things lol)!! Luck would have it, I have not paid for parking here, Ever ( knocking on good ol Georgia wood ). They have a handicap ramp for those taking strollers or elders. There is a restaurant on the property and now food truck outside. Some things are expensive so normally I feed us before heading out and pack fruits and snacks. There are seatings outside the museum to take a break and eat. Don’t worry while sitting you will enjoy the various murals outside and off course some old school fun of people watching. And people are hilarious so you won’t be bored or think you’re missing anything by sitting inside. Don’t be in a hurry here!! Kids can sign up for FREE to get a SMARTBOX (that blue box in all the pictures… we call it “his briefcase) that includes a notebook, pencil, coloring, and a small gift. We have many and now use it to store books, writing items etc in the backseat of my car and another we use to store in my son bathroom and it holds his lotions and sprays and even given some away. Very multi functional!! They used to have more activities for the kiddos but they still had a section for hands on creatives and it served it’s purpose. What I love most is the diversity of this museum, when we visited, the Samurai exhibit was displayed, but there were so many others like African, Europe, Spanish, etc… I love this museum because it helps build a diverse dialogue that can carry on…

Fantastische Erfahrung: A great date night on the third Friday of the month when it's also Jazz night. As folks that aren't big art museum folks we loved spending a Friday night catching some of the live music (however it's hard to get a seat unless you arrive early). We enjoyed being able to explore the museum listening to the music and then being able to enjoy a snack & drink afterwards on the outdoor balcony.

Fantastische Erfahrung: So I only saw a small portion of what they have due to chaperoning a bunch of kids for a school trip. What I saw was great. We saw the Paris, Samurai and the food court exhibit(these kids were taking about eating as soon as we got here). It's clean and the staff is really friendly. The Paris portion was cool. I'm not an art enthusiast but it was interesting. Now the Samurai exhibit was amazing. It's worth the price to get in just to see that. I loved it. When my oldest comes back for a visit from college in gonna drag the bum down here.

Fantastische Erfahrung: #FirstFridays Review: More than just a night at the museum, First Fridays is a cultural explosion of art, entertainment, community, and positivity. An experience that is crafted to satisfy any craving, the First Friday in 2023 provided an experience that sets the tone for the rest of the year. HIGH Frequency Friday brought together Atlanta’s favorite DJs presenting a cultural experience designed to raise the vibration. This month’s performances featured Ree de la Vega & Divoli S’vere, and VLSC. Truly a time! Upon walking up, the line was longer than usual. Come to find out, the scanners were down, however, the wait wasn’t long as the museum had a manual process in place and ample staff coverage which kept the line moving. As I was in line I was able to experience the natural vibrations of the night. The line presented a multi-generational demographic brought together by the love for a good time. Once inside it was time to pick your fun and flavor! The Drink: The Drink of the Month was a White Juniper Mule: chardonnay, gin, peach schnapps, and ginger beer. The Patio: The patio had more of a house vibe. It was a high energy environment of house music ranging from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. With this there was more of a “Happy Hour” vibe to the crowd. People were mixing and mingling with each other as well as grouping with those they already know. This setting was perfect for those who wanted to mingle while partying. Main Room: The main room presented a blended party environment. As musical selections of House, R&B, and blended sounds filled the air, the room displayed a dimmer lighting which embodied more of a “lounge” aesthetic. The room was a mix of singles and date-nighters who were ready to vibe in a way that was far from just a normal night out. As you partied in the main room you were able to look up and see the walkways of the different exhibit halls. This added a layer of ambiance that allowed you to add a narrative to the night as you smiled and waved at the patrons on the different levels. *No Drinks allowed in the gallery area* The Gallery: As always, the exhibit areas of the High are filled with beautiful visuals, history, and an abundance of conversation starters. The art presents a variety of artistic pleasure which allows you to get lost in the experience. No matter your level of experience as it relates to art, High is a compounded experience that always satisfies one’s artistic craving. **including Stephen Burks: Shelter in Place, Deana Lawson, Rodin in the United States: Confronting the Modern, and Monir Farmanfarmaian: A Mirror Garden. The Drink and Draw: This was awesome. Outside of the normal area in one of the open rooms, 2 models posed as the patrons were provided paper and pencil and the time to draw while sipping. This was a full night of fun all by itself. The vibe was low-key, the lighting was positioned on the models along with just enough light throughout the room so you could draw. The energy was high yet warm at the same time. The host of this particular experience was amazing. He presented a smile that captured you and fashion that blew you away. Furthermore, there was an air of focus in the room that aided in the appreciation of the models and the artistic visual they provided for our viewing and drawing pleasure. From the High: “Rodin’s The Thinker comes to life at this month’s Drink and Draw! Guided by our teaching artist Larkin Ford, learn how to capture the essence of our models through line and gesture drawing. Special guests Mo Stringer and Mr. Elle Aye.” Overall, this was an amazing experience. The night is nothing short of fun and engaging. The ability to network, mingle, and engage is unmeasurable. Furthermore, the feeling of community is one of a kind. If you haven’t been to a First Friday at the High yet, please add it to your To-Do-List asap. Fantastische Erfahrung: A great place to find inspiration!! Take a day and just walk around the museum. I went on a Saturday afternoon and I fell in love with a few pieces and especially how it wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be. All writers should definitely visit when seeking new ideas

Fantastische Erfahrung: I'm not much of a museum person but my granddaughter asked to go. So of course I took her. She really enjoyed the exhibits. I did too. We started at the top floor and walked the ramps to get to the other floors. I loved the big silver faceted bowl and how it reflects what is going on around it. That was cool. I took pictures of what I liked.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Amazing exhibition. The art pieces were arranged very well and the staff was very friendly. They had the samurai exhibit when I went and it was amazing to look at. Highly recommend a visit here.

Positive Erfahrung: A great place to experience art and beauty. The architecture is a treat for the eyes but doesn't get in the way of the broad selection of art on display inside. I enjoyed all the paintings from well-known and not so well known artists. It does tend to be a little warm in the building so dress with that in mind.

Positive Erfahrung: They have several art collections and displays. The place is a three-storey gallery/museum. People of all ages can enjoy and appreciate. I went there on a Saturday so there were a lot of visitors. There was even two people discreetly shooting a music video. And other groups taking self portraits for social media. The location is in Midtown Atl, so it is also near other business establishments such as theatre, restaurants and shopping stores. Street parking is available but limited. Parking garages are available around the area for visitors as well as residents of the condo units across the museum. I parked at the Lanier Parking for $10, I guess that was their weeked promo rate.

Fantastische Erfahrung: This museum is relaxing. No big crowds or long lines. The art is exceptional and unlike anything else I have seen in other museums across the country. It doesn’t require a lot of time to go through it so I’d recommend it to anyone in the area. Let it be known parking is expensive at $20 so be sure to take that into consideration.
