Experiencia fantástica: Very in depth. A single room full of some of the best swords you will ever see. Be aware however - they are displayed 'naked' without their fittings, and will require a true interest in Japanese history to enjoy. No frills.

Experiencia fantástica: If you know about Japanese swords this place is amazing. They have a Masamune blade there for example and a national treasure. Info for English is available at the counter. But like the other reviews say. Unless you have a keen interest it might be a bit of a letdown. Passing interests will find it a bit of a hike for not much bang.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a small self serve museum that showcases swordsmanship throughout the ages. If you are near this adorable museum it is a must for not only history buffs, but for anyone who can appreciate metalwork without modern machines.

Experiencia fantástica: The emotional significance of this museum really cut me to pieces. Exhibitions got straight to the point, a nice slice of life. Head here of an afternoon to parry the boredom and get a cut of the action

Experiencia positiva: Maybe a little expensice for the amount of things to see. And no english explanations in the museum. But the swords are really beautiful though.

Experiencia positiva: Only one floor of collection of swords. I had the impression that the longest sword would be here but I was mistaken. The first floor has a video showing how a sword is meticulously made. The collection is on the 3rd floor, you can take pictures of most of the swords and other items and some swords are not allowed to have pictures taken

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to spend few hours to understand more about how Japanese swords are made. Temporary exposition available for 1,000¥

Experiencia positiva: The Japanese Sword Museum is a bit of a niche art category. I believe photography is generally forbidden however, recently they have designated an exhibit (at the end) where photos/telephone selfies can be taken. The venue has a roof top deck with a view over the neighboring Yasuda gardens as well as the Kokugikan (Grand Sumo stadium). Photography is permitted on the overlook. The designs (an inadequate word) in the blades like waves, landscapes, sometimes even script or calligraphy are mesmerizing. I was interested in books (some printed by wood block) that illustrated the swirling patterns on the blades of famous swords. These were paired with the blades they illustrated and were as amazing to me as the iron work itself. It is, however, not a museum I visit often. The exhibition rooms are very dimly lit with the displays being well illuminated (a very calming and peaceful effect). Some of the more serious viewers were using small telescope like optical devices to study the blades closely.

Experiencia fantástica: It was a truly humbling experience. A fitting location for one to admire the crafts of old and take in the mindset of the Samurai and the Smith.

Experiencia fantástica: If you like katana then you should visit this museum. They have all the info about katana history and material & method to maka katana. However, this museum not allow photo & video shoting. They also have a shop there, I got my katana shape scissors.

Experiencia fantástica: Informative explanation and step by step examples of how the sword is formed. The lighting in the sword exhibition is done such there's minimal reflection on the glass from the observer's side. The exhibited swords at the time of this review were absolutely breathtaking and the lighting brings out the engravings and hamon on the bodies of the swords.

Experiencia fantástica: Awesome little museum set in some lovely gardens. Seeing the amazing quality of these swords in the collection (some dating back 900 years) was mind blowing and seeing how they got from the raw materials to the finished product was very informativ

Experiencia positiva: A very cool place, if you are into swords, katana and forging. Some of the most beautiful blades I have seen in my life, but if you bring your wife or someone no that much into katana, you should by them food or drinks for their patience ;-)

Experiencia fantástica: REAL museum with REAL blades from 13-14 century. There is one room with beautiful exhibiton where you can contemplate blades in silence. If you are not interested in swords/katanas/wakizashi/tanto/tachi or you are looking for fake and noisy attractions, just don't go there.

Experiencia fantástica: They have an absolutely superb collection of beautifully crafted authentic swords. The level of craftsmanship is stunning.

Experiencia fantástica: Do check that an exhibition is on or else there is nothing to see. First time I went there was nothing so I was lucky to reroute my trip to go again and this time it was fantastic with lots of beautiful katana, tachi, and tanto to see.

Experiencia fantástica: So many cool swords - learned the difference between a katana and a tashi - this place is currently closed and will be reopening in a different location 2018

Ben Scott 8 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Really cool to see lots of the older original blades as well as find out the information on how they were made. Unfortunately no photography

Jana Trckova 8 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: It's a museum about swords, what else do you need to know? They might have had more sword mountings than actual swords, but loved it anyway.
