Experiencia fantástica: On top of the display of culture arts and gather activities, the museum is trying to put some of the most traditional names in Kyoto together, the shops sell the brand products together and some small restaurants at the front. It is one stop to buy some traditional local products, like tea, incense, food, handcrafts, et al. The price is the same with the main shop around in Kyoto only variety maybe limited. New building connect with the old bank building, access is easy and comfortable. Close to Subway station and plenty bike parking space. Also a very traditional paper shop is next door with elegant products. A very nice place overall!

Experiencia fantástica: One of the museum that we still can enter the meiji style building. The first floor is actually free and basically just contained shops. The exhibition itself actually placed in the modern type building just behind the meiji type building. Right now it held exhibitions of dolls in the midst of hina-matsuri so it's quite joyful to look at

Experiencia fantástica: Such a cool old front building. And I saw this great exhibition about the artist Alphonse Mucha. Then I was led around the history of Kyoto exhibit for a free english explanation of the exhibits. So cool.

Experiencia fantástica: Museum of Kyoto is a must for anyone. Mucha to Manga on my visit was an absolute JOY along with the phenomenal pieces on the top deck and the city's history in-between easily rates in my all-time top three.

Experiencia fantástica: An absolute must see museum while in Kyoto. The architecture is gorgeous inside! I was lucky enough to visit it twice during Kyotographie, an annual photography festival.

Experiencia fantástica: On my time of visit, they were having the Nisioisin Exhibition on the 4th floor. Seems like there are various stuff held on the other floors. Do note that they do have extra charges and the audio players are also premiums too. Met a life size Shinobu figure during my visit and brought a few goods on the way out. Enjoyed my special (one time only) stay. The Normal Museum is on the 1~3rd floors, filled with Japanese history. Would recommend, enjoy your stay.

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice museum on the history of Kyoto, if you get a free guided tour from one of the volunteers at the museum. Very little is written in English, so the guided tour is heavily recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice and quiet place. They provide exhibition, performance, information and gift shop. Good to preview traditional Japanese culture. Staff is kind. Visitors may enter some parts without tickets.

Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful museum, very big, worth spending an entire day there. Great restaurants too, although a bit pricey.

Experiencia fantástica: One of the many, many, many museums in Kyoto city. Well worth a stop even though they are currently under renovation. The architecture brings you back a century or two and stepping inside is like entering a kind of movies you get transported. The first floor is free and you are able to buy what you see from the revolving exhibition. Inside of the museum there is a shopping area, a rest area, and even a cafe where you can have breakfast or lunch!

Experiencia fantástica: Well curated under 40 young artists display, the works of art & where they were placed shows the cleverness of the curator. Staff & volunteers are great.

Experiencia positiva: Would have liked to have spent more time in the museum but since we had already seen the featured exhibit we only explored the 1st floor area. Mostly occupied by arts and crafts shops on this floor so admission is free. There was an architect's scaled down 3D model of the entire museum's buildings (old and new) as represented by the uploaded photos taken December 2016
