Experiencia fantástica: Amazing craftmanship! Can make this as first stop over, as the exit ll lead you to the sanddune, then you walk across and reach the sanddune info center, and feed your stomach nearby:)

Experiencia positiva: Really fun and interesting museum in Tottori prefecture. I believe the exhibit is changed frequently. I think the ticket price was 1600 yen for 2 people, which is a little pricier than I expected. You can be in an out in under an hour. I recommend if you’re in the area. Also there’s a lovely view of the sand dunes from the museum so don’t forget to check that out.

Experiencia fantástica: The sand sculptures were so well done that I felt I was back in Egypt. The exhibit was educational, intriguing and a great tribute to the brilliance of the Egyptian architecture that designed the original sphinx, pyramids and tombs. This is a must see if you are visiting Tottori Japan.

Experiencia fantástica: Totally worth the visit. Even though it is far from main cities like Tokyo, Osaka, etc. The sand exhibits change every year. They have pictures for earlier exhibits as well

Experiencia fantástica: It is relatively small, but very museum. The sculptures are actually very impressive. The theme changes once or twice a year. The entrance is not expensive and you do not need too much time to visit it, takes about 40-60 minutes.

Experiencia fantástica: An amazing place to visit solo or with your family, every few months there is theme at the Sand Museum. This time until Jan 2021 the theme is Czech Republic & Slovakia, there are 19 sculpture on the theme of Czech and Slovak history, landscape, nature, animals and traditions such as Historic Center of Prague (Czech Republic), Charles Bridge and Vltava River (Czech Republic), Spish Castle (Slovakia). Well worth the visit & free parking at the museum if you get there early.

Experiencia fantástica: If you love arts you will love this. The museum not so big, then you will not be tired when walking around. Admission fee is ¥600 adult. If you buy at tourist information center (at Tottori station) you will get 100¥ cheaper.

Experiencia fantástica: The sand castles were very awesome! Different sculptures every year.

Experiencia fantástica: One of the coolest museums in I’ve seen in Japan. Had no idea sand sculpting was such an interesting art. Artists from around the world create the works displayed at the museum. And it changes each year. They have posters on display of previous themes based on regions in the world. I went during the South Asia theme, which ended in January 2020. You can get close enough to touch the works, which of course you can’t touch them because they are sand. Talk about impermanent art. After walking around among the sculptures, go up to the next floor to view it from above. The place is actually quite small, but so is the fee. It’s worth it. Take a walk outside, too, to check out a few more sand works protected only by tents. You can get a discounted Sand Museum ticket with the tourist Loop Kirinjishi Bus pass bought at Tottori Station.

Experiencia fantástica: The sculptures are created every year, so a new theme is rotated. This time the theme is Southeast Asia highlighting scenes, mythology, history and buildings of India and surrounding countries. The is also a vista deck from the top floor which can oversee the sand dunes.

Experiencia fantástica: Although the weather was bad, the sculptors that were outside held up very well! The South Asia exhibit was amazingly beautiful and the details were very precise! They also had an activity were you could carve your own sculptor from the same sand used in the exhibit. It was just sand and water, but you really got the impression of how hard it was to work with. They had instructions for making a bead, but that was only incase you didn't have any ideas of your own.

Experiencia fantástica: Very artistic place. Each year has a different theme. In 2016, it was Latin America. Had great fun and enjoyed the sculptures.

Experiencia fantástica: Not too far from the Sand Dunes (10-15 minute walk). Exhibits change every so often, so it's better to check on websites to expect the theme/country/region of the sand sculptures.

Experiencia fantástica: This museum is awesome! Buy the ticket at the Information Center at Tottori Station if you want to get a cheaper price!

Alvin Liu 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: 「砂で世界旅行・北欧編」Amazing exhibition with most myth presented in form of sands. The museum is not big itself, but you can still spend 30 minutes to 1 hour here for taking photos. As it was a in-door hall, it will not be affected by the weather.
