Experiencia fantástica: Blue Period of Piccasso exibition was so impressive. Love this museum itself and woods around it.

Experiencia fantástica: It’s always a good idea to visit this museum. They often have a good and unique exhibition, the food is a little bit pricy but worth it at the restaurant, and the garden is really refreshing and meditative.

Experiencia fantástica: Spectacular location, building architecture and European art collection. There is also a shop, a café and a restaurant. A must not only in Hakone but in Japan. A bus from Gora Station takes you there in 13 minutes

Experiencia fantástica: Occasionally you stumble across something that blows you away. Definitely the best gallery we have seen in Japan and only went as happened to go past on bus. Really is worth a visit

Experiencia fantástica: We came to Mt. Fuji but it was cloudy. We spent the whole day staring at Fika cafe (15 min away) and this museum and sculpture garden, what a jam. It was so worth it to rent a car and do sightseeing out of Tokyo.

Experiencia fantástica: Went early May. The weather was sunny but cool. The museum itself has a very unique and interesting design. Lots of light and spaces. There are five galleries, two restaurants and a museum store. The collection is quite varied. You can see works of french impressionists such as Monet as well as modern artists such as Tillmans and Yayoi Kusama. There is also a nature walk around the museum area where you can walk around nature while enjoying art. For the entry price (1800 yen) I think it's worth every penny. Make sure to go while you're in Hakone. A short bus trip is all it takes.

Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite art museum! Recommend for anyone who interested in Impressionist art era. You will see a lot of beautiful and vivid paintings from all around the world. Also i love the architecture there as well.

Experiencia fantástica: Good art museum for relaxed visit. Visited 2023 Apr with Monet, Renoir and Kusama.

Experiencia fantástica: You must come here! Every single exhibition was very well done, and not overwhelming so that you could spend a couple of hours here and see it all. Be sure to take the nature trail outside the museum. I can’t say enough good things about it, so go and see it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!

Experiencia fantástica: Truly cool museum, great architecture and some surprisingly well-equipped exhibits. Emerging artists all the way to the most well-known. Definitely a place to stop on a trip to Hakone if, you know, you like art…

Experiencia fantástica: Pola museum has 5 galleries which 2 of them is Picasso gallery. It includes his blue era where most of his art was based on the color blue. There was also cubism where he drew simple face as well as surrealism. I recommend going to this place because you can spend a lot of time looking at different artworks eat at a cafe, and go to the forest to see the natu

Experiencia fantástica: It was so incredible to see Monet's paintings in person. The outside area was really nice to walk through as well. It was so surreal to walk through the trees while the music was playing.

Experiencia fantástica: Awesome museum at the heart of the forest! Elegant main building surrounded by the park for enjoying nature. Collection is excellent. Especially some of Japanese masterpieces! There is a small cafe in the main building with good coffee and sweets. Recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: A little expensive but worth it. The current exhibition on the connections between modern French and Japanese art was stellar, comprehensive, and intellectually stimulating. The restaurant was wonderful too, spacious with a beautiful view of the forest. Course lunches are about 3500 yen if you want to splurge, but the a la carte menu is delicious too -- loved the seafood curry for 1800 yen. Also do not miss the forest walk. It is lovely even in winter with the rare forest of red-barked 'himeshyara' trees.

Experiencia fantástica: Outstanding collection of Western and Japanese pieces with careful explanation and analysis of the influences of each on the other. The nature trail around the property is beautiful and peaceful with sculptures scattered throughout the trees.

Experiencia fantástica: Very cool museum. Accessible through the bus number 2 at the Gora Station... On the way back I walked to the bus station 20 minutes away to get on the direct bus to Hakoneyumoto Station, which I don't recommend doing. The walk felt dangerous as the road is tiny enough for 2 ways let alone a pedestarian and the bus drive to Hakoneyumoto is awfully curvy. I did get carsick instantly, going back to Gora station and taking the Hakone car makes more sense.

Experiencia fantástica: Nice collection of French paintings including Monet, but also Picasso, Kandinsky...

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to spend an hour and half before taking a cable car from Gora station. It takes approx. 15mis by bus.

Experiencia fantástica: Lovely building in the middle of the woods. The interior is great and the building is really impressive. Apart from the nice building the exhibition is really various.

Experiencia fantástica: The exhibition was called A Century of Art through 100 Masterpieces, and it did not disappoint! Monet, Seurat, Renoir, van Gogh, Rousseau, Kadinsky, Dali, Picasso, just to name a few! It was an all-star showing. The best part it was all under one roof!! I could have easily spent a whole day but time didn't permit. It was raining the day I visited and it was so nice that umbrellas were readily available from the bus stop to the museum, and vice versa. I have since been longing to return to Hakone.

Experiencia fantástica: Who would have thought this hidden gem would be found in the middle of the Hakone natural countryside. Filled with works by Monet, Renoir, Picasso as well as numerous Japanese artists. Architecturally stunning and situated in wonderful parkland

Leah 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful space, unique collection. Current main exhibit is all about how western influences impacted the new age of Japanese art and culture. Interesting curation, though only Intros and titles are in English. :(

Experiencia fantástica: Found this place by accident, but totally blew me away. It's tucked in lush green, the building itself is an art. It was impression exhibition during the visit, and had numerous masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh, Martisse, Picasso, and local Japanese arts. The park behind was a nice walk also.

Experiencia fantástica: Such an amazing place to visit. We enjoyed Monet and Renoir paintings, which can not be seen in Japan so often. The museum itself is so beautiful and peaceful. We had a good time walking around and then drove to a wonderful restaurant nearby, because there are so many in this area. Hakone is one of the best places to escape Tokyo for the weekend and enjoy both culture and nature.

Kiseki Meru 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: If you love Monet's, this is a must see for you. The museum is on top of the hill and there are a few short nature trails around the museum (not much to see in winter but should be really nice in spring).

Yugo Tham 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely respectable collections of Monet, Picasso, Chagall, Renoir, Cézanne... stunning architecture and peaceful garden.

Experiencia fantástica: A wonderful location for this architectural wonder of a museum. Nestled in the mountains and surrounded by pine forests around Hakone, the Pola Museum is discretely low profile to compliment the beautiful natural surroundings. The building itself is ultra modern, with a wonderful use of light in its serene, clean space. The Picasso/Chagall exhibition was on when I was there and it was presented with first class delivery. and laid out through the space with wonderful balance. Hire a car in Tokyo and head out of the city to visit this wonderful place. Don't forget to walk around the promenade footpath that winds around the museum through peaceful forest... not to be missed.

Experiencia fantástica: Surprising Gem of a museum tucked away on an obscure mountain road. Serene, gorgeous location and really respectable collection. Beautiful architecture. There is an oddly priced restaurant inside, I would recommend eating before arrival, but it will tide you over. Get your camera ready before you even step onto the grounds... it's tremendously photogenic.

Experiencia fantástica: Rain and dense fog in Hakone brought us here and it made our weekend! The Picasso-Chagall Imaginary Dialogues is a world-class exhibit and the museum and grounds (even in the the rain) are well worth time spent when visiting Hakone any time of year.
