🗣️ Museo Numismático de Atenas: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Magnificent interior decoration of the building which once belonged to Schliemann. Very informative exhibition of coins, money and history of monetary system. You can visit a cafe at the back of the museum. Very special feeling.
Experiencia fantástica: Anyone a big fan of ancient coins should visit. Great collection
Experiencia fantástica: I found this museum really delightful not only for the location (the Iliou Melathron, former Schliemann 's house, decorated in Renaissance style) but for the rich collection of coins from the antiquity, that I love more than everything, especially the Athenian and Rhodes ones (a beautiful face) , to the modern era (note the Churchill 's portrait). An interactive screen and good explanations with a furnished bookshop complete the visit
Experiencia fantástica: Very well preserved and informative. The architecture of the building is impeccable as well. Worth visiting!
Experiencia fantástica: The exhibition is very well planned and very entertaining, . The house itself worth's a visit I think, but I felt amazed on how interesting an exhibition with mostly coins can be if it is well explained. I've gone three times and I believe I'll be going many more! Not the first if you don't have time, but a must for residents or second visits.
Experiencia fantástica: A great way to start your trip and it has a lovely little cafe around the back.
Experiencia positiva: Good. Would be also nice if the museum will add section of more coins and notes of other countries
Experiencia fantástica: This museum is a hidden gem and much underestimated. It was built for Schliemann and reflects his love to archeology.
Experiencia fantástica: Very informative place for the worls of coins, shown in one of the finest houders of Athens, the former house of Heinrich Schliemann. The surrounding garden is a perfect place for drinking coffee.
Experiencia fantástica: Would highly recommend for any coin lovers out there. The museum has a modest but still astounding collection of coins from all over Greece and some from even further beyond like Russia and Sweden and such. Very interesting place that takes you through the history of the Greek people from ancient times to modern.
Experiencia fantástica: A must see in Athens for any coin collector! Beautiful building, yard and interior.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the most underrated - yet very significant- attractions in Athens. Located right in the heart of Athens, steps away from Syntagma and Panepistimio metro stations, housed in a spectacular neoclassical mansion designed by architect Ernst Ziller for the famous archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, this museum is an oasis from the buzz of the city center. Hosting amazing money collections from the Greek and other civilisations from all historical periods, as well as fascinating contemporary exhibitions over time. After taking a nice tour in the museum, enjoy your coffee at the museum's beautiful garden cafe, feeling the energy of this place, in which used to gather the most famous and intellectual residents of Athens for its owner's eclectic parties of the 19th century. The museum's director, Dr. George Kakavas, is also a big fan of cultural events, organising many theatrical plays, music concerts and various performances in warm spring, summer and autumn evenings. Not to be missed!
Experiencia fantástica: This museum is a very nice small museum. The collections are really interesting and the building itself is also very nice. They however only accept cash.
Experiencia fantástica: (Interesting details on the fence) My grandfather is an avid numismatist and he would totally love it!
Experiencia fantástica: One of the most beautiful buildings in Athens, especially on the interior. Highly decorated rooms with patterns inspired from the ancient Greece leave the visitor stunnned. The collection was also vast very interesting covering many centuries and countries.
Experiencia fantástica: Lovely and quiet place to host a private meeting. The air is immersed in wealth's smell there. No random people or anything that might be a distraction. The products are fair for their price, the service is rapid and mature, next time I'll go I hope there will be no Corona masks on so I'll be able to read the crew's feelings.
Experiencia fantástica: What a find! Just strolling along and found this great museum dedicated to historical coins. Very well displayed with great graphics and descriptions in Greek and English. Also it is housed in a wonderfully decorated building. Make sure to look at the ceilings!
Experiencia fantástica: What an absolutely fantastic museum! Housed in a wonderful neo-classical building in the center of Athens it houses a very graciously lit and decorated exhibit of coins, ancient and modern. The cafe in its garden is a terrific oasis in a busy city. Very much worth a visit!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing place and History, from BC until now. for 3€ you will see many kinds and collection of coins. Explanation in both Greek + English you will find next to every exhibit and picture. The workers are very polite and answer my questions nicely also in English. Thank you.
Experiencia fantástica: So much history and places that we don't even see in our own city... Beautiful museum with yard that you can enjoy the coins and your coffee.
Experiencia fantástica: It was the home of archaeologist Schlieman but nowadays it houses one of the most important coins collection in the world. The building is magnificent and you can see very rare ancient coins. Definitely worth a visit especially with a tour guide to learn many details about the building and the exhibits (more than 600000 objects from 14th century BC until modern times).
Experiencia fantástica: Little gem of a museum. I didn’t care much about coins, but everything was presented in a clear and interesting manner. True works of art and technique. The building is marvellous, with extensive decorations on the floors, walls and ceilings. Wonderful patio in the garden.
Experiencia fantástica: I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone with even a remote interest in numismatics or greek history in general. Tickets here are relatively cheap and the collection of gorgeously preserved rarities is mind-bogglingly vast. The house itself is beautiful and the audio-guide is a nice touch, too. I honestly enjoyed this place and wish to return to Athens at some point in the future, perhaps in part due to this museum. Easily 5 stars.
Experiencia fantástica: There are two reasons to enter the museum. On the one hand there is a plenty of coins available. On the other hand the building itself is worth seeing. Lets just say the coins most likely aren't what should draw you there. And why exactly would you wish to see yet another neo-classical building in Athens? Well, to immerse into a world of the "father of modern archaeology" who, among other things, used dynamite in his modern excavations. Like a true madman, the fellow had an obsession, but unlike most madmen, he actually followed it through. The mansion is a testament for this fine excavator who destroyed most layers of Ilion and made a part of his legacy by naming his son Agamemnon -- keep that in mind when strolling into the boy's bedroom -- and daughter Andromache -- something also worth keeping in mind when walking into her bedroom. Once you've gotten through those, stay a moment in Heinrich's winter study and take a moment to reflect what he might have been doing while sitting in there. Then, get out, consider for a moment how Heinrich probably rolls in his grave like a kebab because you thought it not worth while to learn enough Greek to read all those fine quotes he considered so inspiring that they ended up being painted on the walls of his mansion. Maybe go get some coffee too.
Experiencia fantástica: Breathtaking place. Exposition is housed in the beautiful building, which is a piece of art on its own. Amazing display of coins with good descriptions in Greek and English. Definitely a must see, even if you are not into numismatics.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent museum, excellent staff, excellent building and history, excellent and rich collection! You need at least one full day to visit the museum, if not two... there is a nice cafe in the garden, esp. if it is not raining. Attention, the museum closes at 3:10, not at 3:30 pm. Enjoy!
Experiencia fantástica: Good museum in a very historical house. The staff I eager to help you enjoy your visitation. For those interested in numismatics it is a must go. Broad collection of old local and foreign coins and medals. The temporary exhibition about the owls of Athens is also great. Free tickets for students!
Experiencia fantástica: One of the greatest museum you'll ever visit. That's right. Let's start with the billding that host the collection--Wow. The coins are from all periods and the start of history of Athina. we spent 2 hours... It's a must !!!
Experiencia fantástica: An oasis in the heart of Athens. The cafe of the museum lies in its green backyard and serves coffee, drinks and snacks. The perfect place to round up shopping while around Syntagma square.
Experiencia fantástica: I went to this Museum today and the staff were very kind and welcoming. Expect to spend around 1 hour as the museum is quite small. You will learn about the ancient coins and you will also be able to work out the wage and the purchasing power back in the day. I enjoyed my time here!
Experiencia fantástica: One of the secret oasis few minutes from syntagma square. You can.visit the museum in this magnificent building or directly come and have a cofee, juice, tea or glass of wine at night. Very often in summer nughts thwre are live jazz concerts or live sing acts. Very atmospheric place and good prices. If you like desserts order the waffle :)
Experiencia fantástica: We visited mainly because we wanted to see Heinrich Schliemann's house, so we didn't actually see the exhibition. There is a cafe in a lovely garden, a perfect place for a relaxing drink.
Experiencia fantástica: This museum was much better than expected. The coins are in really good condition and they have a wide range of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine. Highly interesting, so I can recommend this if you find coins fascinating!
