🗣️ Museo de Cultura Bizantina: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Gives very good information about the Byzantium period and culture .
Experiencia fantástica: 1. A well kept museum detailing the Byzantine history of Thessaloniki. 2. The administration has kept the museum well staffed, clean and safe. 3. I particularly enjoyed the architecture behind the museum itself. 4. An audio tour can be obtained for selected display items by downloading the museum app (using the QR code at the front desk) and using the app to scan QR codes near the museum pieces.
Experiencia fantástica: The Byzantine Culture Museum of Thessaloniki is an excellent place to visit. Rich in exhibits as well as history. It is worth a visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Best museum in Thessaloniki. A must see!
Experiencia fantástica: The Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki has a wonderful program. They offer workshops on conservation and host regular events. The staff are all very knowledgable. The permanent collection boasts many rare artefacts and they also have lending exhibitions, temporary exhibitions and traveling exhibitions. Do check their website before you travel - the archaeology sites included operate seasonal hours.
Experiencia fantástica: Well worth a visit, but so much to see you might have to bite size it. Had a fabulous meal in the restaurant. Can get combined ticket to other things, so go here first.
Experiencia fantástica: Really cool frescos and paintings! There were a few mosaics and lots of icons.
Experiencia fantástica: I recommend visiting this museum, a place full of history and art!
Experiencia fantástica: Here you can visit the 11 galleries of the permanent exhibition and can travel back to the world of Byzantine Empire era through thematic sections concerning the daily private & public life, worship, burial customs, architecture, art, commercial and business activity. *** Included in the special ticket package Price: 15.00 € - Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki daily: 8.00-20.00 - Museum of Byzantine Culture daily: 8.00-20.00 - White Tower daily: 8.00-20.00
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best designed museum!
Experiencia fantástica: The best, most important museum in Thessaloniki. Also saw excellent bienalle exhibits here.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderfully laid out museum with Greek and English information throughout. It focuses on the Byzantine/ Christian era of the Macedonian area of Greece. It holds many stunning artifacts from Thessaloniki and surrounding areas. Tickets are €6 or you can get the combination ticket €15 which allows you entry into 4 attractions.
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum designed and built for the purpose. The antique period is somewhat more interesting, but this one will be appreciated by lovers of Byzantine art.
Experiencia fantástica: Definitely a must-see when visiting the historical city of Thessaloniki. Includes a super wide range of exhibits, from Byzantine architecture to everyday life objects like kitchen utensils and ornaments. Also, there is an annual special collection of objects, ex. 2021's special collection included paintings inspired by the Greek revolution of 1821 for the 100th celebration.
Experiencia fantástica: As someone who came from an orthodox country I find the byzantine culture still present in the daily life of the orthodox church. You can say we are old fashioned.
Experiencia fantástica: The legacy of the Bizantyne era is housed in a great modernist-brutalist building designed by Kiriakos Krokos. The exhibits are grouped in 11 galleries, arranged in chronological order and offer a look at all aspects (architecture, church frescos, daily life, mosaics, the emperors etc). The mosaics are quite impressive, as is the building’s atmosphere itself and the unique subject, specific to Thessaloniki. There is also a cafeteria nice designed adjenct to the courtyard.
Experiencia fantástica: Nice architecture and nice exhibition, it is nice to come here before April, only 4 euro entrance and plenty of spaces.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museums I've visited. Interesting collection of byzantian artefacts, extremely good organization of the space, with nice atrium, where temporary exhibitions are presented. You can buy souvenirs at museum shop and drink coffee in the coffee house.
Experiencia positiva: This museum easy walk from White Tower and other museum on group ticket. Apparently building won some European design award but cannot for the life of me understand why. Religious theme to most exhibits, icons, tombs with decoration etc. I actually most enjoyed the temporary exhibit with some incredible jewelry and ornate guns.
Experiencia fantástica: The collection on display is impressive and you can learn many things about the Byzantine period. If you want a better understanding of the history an a more chronological one, you can first go to Archeological Museum. The building itself is a must see! Such a good architecture, with subtle details and atmosphere; a delight for architects or anyone passionate about it.
Experiencia fantástica: Byzantine history and art and culture all wrapped up in a beautiful Museum. Much of Byzantine and Greek art and history has been stolen by various invading armies and so not much is left. What is left is rich and meaningful.
Experiencia fantástica: The Museum of Byzantine Culture presents various aspects of Byzantine art and culture, as well as of the following era, after the fall of the Byzantine Empire to the Ottoman Turks in 1453. Frescoes, mosaics, icons, marble architectural members, integrally detached frescoed early Christian burials, valuable ecclesiastic utensils, objects of personal ornament, but also functional objects of everyday use present aspects of life in Byzantium, from the organization of religious and social life and the artistic and intellectual production to private life and activities in the market, the countryside and the sea. The Museum of Byzantine Culture has been awarded the Council of Europe Museum Prize for 2005, for its significant contribution to the understanding of European cultural heritage. The jury appreciated “the excellence of the museum and the balance between conservation, restoration and presentation”, noting in particular the virtual absence of showcases and the illustration of restoration work. It described the museum as “visitor-friendly, with an educational emphasis on children”. The Museum’s building was constructed on the plans of the talented architect Kyriakos Krokos (1941-1998). Among the best works of public architecture of the last decades in Greece, it has been declared a historically listed monument by the Ministry of Culture in 2001. Discovering Thessaloniki’s Byzantine past, it is divided in several different thematic sections and collections that cover a wide time period of the city’s Byzantine past. Wonderful mosaics and wall paintings, Byzantine icons and religious architecture, impressive jewellery, rare books and scripts await you there. A café restaurant, a small amphitheater and a separate section that hosts outdoor exhibitions are some of the extra features available for the visitors. Inside the Museum of Byzantine Culture is considered one of the best designs of public architecture in Greece, as it successfully combines the Greek architectural heritage with modern elements while using modern materials in a really clever way. The Museum of Byzantine Culture has been awarded the Council of Europe’s Museum Prize for the year 2005. For years it remains one of the favorite destinations of the city for the majority of the visitors! You won’t have a hard time finding the museum as it is right next to the Archaeological museum in the centre of the city.
Experiencia fantástica: Not too big, only 10 expositions, very good inside, lots of crafts and things to see and not boring at the same time. Friendly staff inside. Children free, we only paid 8 Euros per adult. Definitely worths to see.
Experiencia fantástica: an amassing opportunity to get a glimpse from the heart of the Hellenic (greek) history and Christian Faith. get a vivid idea of the glorious past that still lays as a hidden foundation of the world as we know it.
