Experiencia fantástica: The Museum of Islamic art has one of the greatest Islamic collection. In the Museum basement, there is a section of the ancient city wall of Athens and an ancient tomb. The Museum has also one of the best café in the city. The café is on the Museum terrace and there is an amazing view to the first ancient cemetery of Athens.

Experiencia fantástica: Mod sized museum housing Islamic works. Very good information provided alongside the works on Greek and English. Well organized by region and period.

Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful, small museum, well documented on each floor dealing with different periods and conflicts. Stunning sculptures, homeware, armour jewellery and weaponry. Some of my favourites the intricate carved doors! Benaki museum of Islamic art well worth a visit! A perfect morning and not forgetting the cafe on the 5th floor with stunning views with the Acropolis at centre stage!

Experiencia fantástica: You can hardly expect to visit such a well made islamic art museum in Athens! Very rich and interesting collection. On the last floor you will find a beautiful cafe with a panoramic view overt the Kerameikos archaeological site and the Thisseion area.

Experiencia fantástica: An extraordinary exhibition with souvenir of kütahya (imprints of history on kütahya's pottery)

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing cozy museum in the center of Athens with beautiful collection of Islamic Art, especially amazing ceramics! Highly recommend to visit!

Experiencia positiva: Beautiful museum, very well set up (each floor showcases a different time period) and the artifacts are beautiful. Down below in the ‘basement’ there are remains of the Athenian wall which was a welcome surprise and a bit of extra cool. The museum is not hard to find or far from other attractions, but it is pretty expensive for what it is (9 Euros/person).

Experiencia positiva: Beautiful and unique museum, an interesting journey to islamic world. However the ticket is expensive, regarding the size. The cafe in 5th floor incredible, but also "empty".

Experiencia fantástica: Outstanding museum and exhibits for those interested in Oriental history, culture, religion and art Beautifully exhibited and historic eras from floor to floor covering iran, Turkey, Iraq, india. Current special exhibit of Kutahya ceramics very unique and unprecedented in Greece. Lucky we have both exhibit and the Museum in Athens. Bravo Benaki!!

Experiencia fantástica: Muslim art from various eras spread through four flours. Ceramics, woodwork, tapestry, and even pieces of armour and highly decorated weaponry. Not too busy especially now with the Covid situation, located centrally yet a bit out of the city's hustle and bustle, it is an excellent alternative if you want to see something different. Most museums in Greece in particular, deal with the classic era and predominantly western artifacts, so this isn't something you would easily get to experience. The café on the roof of the building is a hidden gem and a great addition to a possible excursion. Vibrant with a great view over the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos and the hills near the Acropolis, I would suggest it for a sip of coffee and a quick rest after viewing the gorgeous exhibits.

Experiencia positiva: Beautiful museum; well worth a visit. Covid measures in place which make for a pleasant and safe experience. A great overview of Islamic art across the centuries. Good facilities, though don’t bother with the cafe upstairs, staff were rude and unwelcoming. Brusquely informed us we weren’t allowed to sit inside and made it clear they weren’t bothered if we stayed or not - We didn’t! Museum staff, on the other hand, were excellent. Highly recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: One of the most special museums in Athens and my personal favorite. Their collection is amazing and spans centuries of Islamic history and culture. Housed in a renovated neoclassical building with a Cafe on the terrace. Which has a really great view. So worth visiting!

Experiencia fantástica: One of the most beautiful museums in Athens. Great galleries representing most periods and styles of Islamic Art. Magnificent view from the roof top. Look for the remains of the ancient Athens' wall in the basement.

Experiencia fantástica: Located in the Psirri/Kerameikos neighborhood of Athens, housed in an old neighborhood-classical mansion complex, this interesting museum has on exhibition a large swath of Islamic art. It includes pottery, silk work, metal work and even the reception room of an Egyptian mansion. In the basement, you can find the remnants of the Themistoclean Wall from the 5th c. BC. Heading to the opposite side of the museum, on the rooftop, you can find a nice cafeteria with wonderful views of the Kerameikos, the Acropolis and the old gas works or Technopoli.

Experiencia fantástica: Lovely small museum with just one room in each floor (so easy to navigate) focused on a different era. There is good commentary on the qr codes by some of the pieces (with WiFi hotspots, althoughi didn't spot were to get the password). The cafe on the roof terrace is great, rather expensive but nice called and drinks, and great views of the acropolis and kerameikos cemetery.

Experiencia fantástica: The place has many floors where each one contains Exhibits to a specific era. It is a good place to to have a primary knowledge about Muslims' culture.

Mario Sydow 5 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice collection. I love the way the different phases and epochs in history are displayed on different floors (elevator available) and have a map of the world during that time with a short summary of this period.

Bert Sanford 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: A very nice, well laid-out museum. The displays are thoughtful, showing the history of Islamic Art through the centuries. Each floor displays a different period. And the view from the rooftop Cafe is spectacular.

Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed everything from the horses armor to the ornate knives. Glassware, ceramics, and fabrics from the 7th century to the 1800s. Fascinating styles and designs, different than other cultures. Each room shows a different period and has a maps displaying the area ruled by each of the empires.

Experiencia fantástica: Four (somewhat small) storeys full of Islamic art, arranged periodically with the earliest objects in the first floor and the latest in the fourth. Item descriptions are given in Greek and English, though some items aren't given any descriptions at all. The cafe at the top of the building offers some nice vistas over Athens, and a free wifi is available. When it comes to coffee, I'm just going to keep it nice and stay silent because, well, I don't have anything nice to say about the coffee. The museum is bit off from the most touristy areas. That, of course, is either a plus or a minus, depending on your point of view. In any case the museum is easy to reach with multiple bus routes and the 21 trolley route from Omonoia.

Experiencia fantástica: A surprisingly beautiful collection of Islamic art in the center of Athens. Beautiful location and building.

Experiencia fantástica: Great museum, the bar is really nice, a little bit expensive, but with a beautiful view!! And the wall decorations are really nice. The museum is full of info about the different empires and great ceramics work. This museum is part of the benaki museum but just the principal benaki museum is free on Thursdays not this one. People of 22 yo or younger don't pay

Experiencia fantástica: A beautiful place with an old style, a great view of Keramikos, Gazi and Acropoli. The menu is great with many options to drink or eat. A smart choice if you want to relax somewhere without a lot of people or nois

Experiencia fantástica: Superb museum with great quality content but, as importantly, great multidisciplinary explanation of the context of the objects presented. I enjoyed it very much and let's not forget the bar on the top terrace with a beautiful view of the Akropolis.

Experiencia fantástica: Exceptional collection, notably from Egypt, of Islamic art. The collection begins with the first centuries of Islam down to modern times. A fascinating voyage of discovery. Top floor has a very nice cafe with various drinks and light food.

Experiencia fantástica: A unique museum in the centre of Athens, dedicated to the Islamic civilisation, culture and history. Located in a 19th century neoclassical building it houses masterpieces of Islamic origin. It usually houses temporary exhibitions of high splendour. Worth seeing the relics of the ancient murals of Athens in the basement and the roof top café. There is WiFi.

Susan from Athens 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: A beautiful small museum with a wealth of artefacts and a reminder that Greece was part of the Islamic world for four centuries. Gorgeous views at the rooftop cafe includes the Acropolis and all of Kerameikos.

Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic museum with unique exhibits. Highly recommended. One photo shows the view from the rooftop cafe and the others show some of the exhibits. Our visit included a guided tour of the museum with an excellent guide.

Experiencia fantástica: Great facility that is very well organised with plenty of gems to see, from Quranic manuscripts, to Ottoman era weapons and treasure chests. Very enjoyable. The rooftop cafe, has a great view with great coffee and food. The staff are also very friendly.
