Experiencia fantástica: I loved my visit here. You might visit the Archaeological Museum first and see all of the beautiful ancient tombstones there, then head to this ancient Athenian cemetery to see where they were located. The site also has a small, excellent museum. Some of the tombstones in place are original, others are reproductions. The road through the cemetery led to Ancient Athens and was called the Sacred Way. The site also includes the location of Plato's Academy. Keep your eyes out for a cool tortoise that wanders through the place. But puh-leeze, don't pound on his shell, like so many tourists do! Poor tortoise.

Experiencia fantástica: West of the Ancient Agora people often overlook this very cool place! Not only a cemetery ...it's where the ruin of the Dipylon Gate is (the biggest of the 15 gates of Ancient Athens' Themistolceian city wall) It was where all the potters were (Kerameis). Small and easy to see.

Experiencia fantástica: The Archaeological site of Kerameikos is one of the most important architectural masterpieces that Athens has to offer. It's located between Ermou, Peireos, and Asomaton Streets, and it's a small part of the ancient Attic Deme of Kerameon, one of the largest demes of ancient Athens, located on the northwest edge of the city. The museum is located in the archaeological site of Kerameikos. It's a ground-floor neoclassical building oriented east-west, on a small hill. In the forecourt of the Museum there is a gallery where well-studied burial monuments of the 4th century BC are housed, as well as part of a mosaic from Pompeion, from the same century. It's a small but excellent museum with amazing exhibits. It houses finds from the ongoing excavations at the most important cemetery of the ancient city of Athens. The exhibition, which includes mainly works of sculpture and ceramics, of burial nature in their majority. Τhe exhibits are displayed in chronological order, but also according to their subjects and their provenance. The Archaeological Museum of Kerameikos, inaugurated in 1938. Worth a visit !

Experiencia fantástica: Although the ruins are not as well prrserved as the Acropolis' or the Ancient Agora's, this place has a very intereresting small musuem that is worth the visit.

Experiencia fantástica: One of the major Athinian sites in my view. Get some information before you go, even if it is just a page. It will enhance your visit.

Experiencia fantástica: The site has lots of sign boards explaining the history of the site. The museum is well documented. Quite kid friendly. My 3 year old grandson enjoyed exploring the grounds and had lots of opportunities to run around and climb. We visited in winter and practically had the place to ourselves.

Experiencia fantástica: Quiet and good place to visit, interesting area with awesome monuments documenting burial procedure from every decade. The museum is also very interesting. And when you are lucky, you might see a turtle.

Experiencia fantástica: So much of history I’m just one place. Incredible site where you can see the city walls and many of its old buildings. The Cemetery is just a part of this giant site. Included in the €30 pass

Experiencia fantástica: The museem is part of the ceramics site. This is very nice place to see many old ruins in Athens. In addition, the old ceramics are really nice and some statues are just amazing. The entrance is part of the archeological pass you can buy to visit the other sites (I had a 5-day pass). You need circa 1 hour to visit this site, so no reason not to do it. The museem itself is quite small so that's quite quick to view everything.

Experiencia fantástica: I loved walking through Kerameikos Cemetery. On my walk I encountered a number of tortoises that were delightful to watch and learned a lot about the site and life in ancient Greece. Really informative and less popular site.

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice place, wonderful architecture and historic treasures. Also, delightful little turtles walking around.

Panagiotis Boulougouras 5 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: The area was named after the potters who originally lived there thousands of years ago, yet the ancient site was only discovered in 1861 when archeologists were excavating around the area. The site includes the remains of a city wall built in 479 BC and the ruins of a road which once was used in the Panathenaic Procession. Surely one of the places you should visit when you come to Athens for the first time.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a delightful hidden gem on the outskirts of Athens' centre. While it is slightly out of the way, it is well worth a visit. The expansive site is striking and impressive in scale and some of the more interesting tombs are well worth examination. An underated attraction I was glad there were so few people visiting.

Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful place, you can see such ancient graves and the old wall that would have surrounded Athens. Seems it's seldom visited by most tourists so I'd definitely recommend. Cold drinks machine selling 500ml water for 50¢ is a great help at the entrance. Small museum inside included in ticket cost, would recommend if you are interested in ancient masonry and pottery etc.

Experiencia fantástica: It is a must if you like ancient history. A lot of fascinating items and offerings from 1000 BC can be seen in the museum. It gives a nice feeling about south west of Athens in that era. Definitely recommendable.

Experiencia fantástica: Free entry for students. It's outside, so you can see the left overs of the architectures while enjoying the sun

Experiencia fantástica: If you don't have much time, pay a visit here and the Acropolis! There are the two sites that you can't miss. I've seen so many museums in so many cities that I have been difficult to satisfy. It's absolutely gorgeous and the small museum that can't be miss, is one of the best I've visited of Antiquities.

Nicholas Vas 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Great site that many tourists unfortunately miss. Also includes a small but relatively rich museum

Ondro Brachtýr 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: As all other historical sites in Athens, this one is also very well prepared for tourists. I liked it here. It's quiet, and taken good care of. It was very interesting to visit. Plenty of informational tables. It was included in the ticket that we bought for multiple historical sites and it was definitely worth spending the money on it.

Experiencia fantástica: A nice green space in the middle of streets and busy roads, quiet and peaceful and nice to walk around. There are signs to tell you the significance of each area. There are toilets and a small gallery. I even saw a tortoise walking around!
