Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museums of Greece for sure, giving visitors an overview of the Greek history, so it's not just an Archaeological Museum! I've read comments about the museum being a labyrinth; it is. In one room the curators practically recreated the geography of the region of Messinia, and that's why it might seem confusing. It might not be the best decision but it's something very innovative and interesting. Definitely worth visiting!

Experiencia fantástica: A beautiful museum in the historic city centre. A wonderful example of the reuse of buildings and spaces. The building used to be the Kalamata farmer's market and was left unoccupied for many years after the relocation of the market to a larger space. The space was renavated ub early 2000s and now provides safe haven for the Messenian antiquities. Definitely worth a visit while in Kalamata.

Experiencia positiva: The museum is well presented and the staff is friendly. Host's findings from the surrounding area from Mycenae times till the Byzantium and the Francish occupation of Peloponnesos. There are some nice mosaics and some nice byzantine column capitals. But the museum is rather small and the exhibits are the kind of objects you will find in any museum in greece. It's at the centre if the city and at a small distance from the bus station. So if you are passing by you can visit
