National Museum of Ecuador

Experiencia positiva: Free museum. No tickets and no lines. Small collection of artefacts and some Ecuadorian art. Certainly worth a visit to see the gold mask. But double check it's on display, before you go, as it is loaned out to other museums from time to time. They have the permanent collection downstairs and special temporary exhibitions upstairs. Clean toilets and friendly service.

Experiencia positiva: This museum could be so much better than it actually is. While the Ecuadorian artifacts are beautiful, the contemporary art is rather bizarre. There are not that many items on display as several exhibits and galleries are apparently getting remodeled. Might still be worth going if there's nothing better to do on a rainy afternoon, since the entrance is free and it is not crowded during weekdays.

Experiencia positiva: As a national museum, I expected this place to have many different pieces. However, it is practically empty with only 100 small pieces exposed. Also no real context is given about the art, it is just classified in 4 time periods. The museum needs rework.
