Experiencia fantástica: Hokusai did not spend such a long time in Obuse, but the museum is pretty good. There are thematic changing exhibits, and those are usually the highlight. The locally painted ceilings for festival floats are quite spectacular too. There is a combo ticket for visiting the Hokusai Museum and two nearby museums. If you have the time, do go check out those two other places as well. The flower paintings at the Nakajima Chinami Museum are simply amazing!

Experiencia fantástica: Somewhat small but plenty of things to keep you busy. Thankfully most stuff is also translated into English which was a big help. Friendly staff and a varied shop. If you like Hokusai's artwork and can make your way here it's worth it.

Experiencia positiva: One of the local attraction, along the train station. If have time, before or after snow monkey ???? trip, should have a stop here too. You will get better idea for the famous artist in the past, his works.

Experiencia positiva: I happily found out about the Hokusai-kan museum from my hotel proprietor and I was able to make a stop off in Obuse on my way back to Nagano. Hokusai-kan is situated in a great part of the town and is worth the short 20-30 minutes it takes to slowly enjoy the artwork. Pictures are allowed of all the artwork and there is a nice giftshop and restrooms available.

Experiencia fantástica: ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai is best know for "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", 32 views of Mt Fuji and 100 views of Mt Fuji. Well worth visiting this museum and sitting through the documentary on Hokusai. He lived locally from age 72 to 90.

Experiencia fantástica: Definitely check this out if you appreciate the works of Hokusai. Includes a little short film about how Hokusai came about the local area. The exhibit is quite small and can take from 20-45mins to finish.

Experiencia fantástica: What a gem of a find. I had no idea this was here, so stumbled across it. I was so engaged with the artwork. I had seen his paintings in London, but had no idea this place was the source of his inspiration. An exhibition well worth seeing, it's a spacious building, lots of artwork to view, so go with the intention to take your time. I had popped into the Tokai Kozen Memorial Museum which has a strong link to the artist, so also check that museum out. I was fortunate with the sunny weather that allowed me to wander around the area at my own pace. Fabulous a must see.

Experiencia fantástica: Hokusai is one of my favorite artists. When we visited Obuse and found out there is a Hokusai museum, I had to go. Unfortunately, they were getting ready for a special event in a few days, so half the museum was not open. Admission was 50% off, but I would have looked to see the rest. What I saw was well worth the ¥500 admission. If you like Hokusai, be sure to visit. Nice museum shop for souvenirs.

Experiencia fantástica: Much too small for an artist of Hokusai’s stature. Yet, that means the museum must focus on the content of each exhibit. They did that extremely well in my Early October 2018 visit.

Experiencia fantástica: When I visited, there were exhibition of Hokusai's manga art, which the style of art is totally different from ones that he is famous for. Those art pieces are gorgeous and I love them all. Glad to know about Hokusai's life work.

Experiencia fantástica: The Hokusai museum shows history and works of Hokusai who influenced Impressionism in the west in 19th century. Great introduction video in both English and Japanese.
