🗣️ Museo Histórico de Creta: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: covers history of island from Romans to present
Experiencia fantástica: Everything you need to know about history of Crete, so much history will need to go twice!
Experiencia fantástica: This is clearly an overlooked museum in Heraklion, I highly recommend you take two hours to check it out. Very interesting collection with a particularly good WWII exhibit and cases of traditional crafts. An excellent companion to the Archaeology Museum, but with only a few other visitors. Very well done, but I will echo the previous comments that the English text in the first room is difficult to read. (It’s the color chosen for the text that’s the problem.) And this museum is just a short walk from other sites. Really enjoyed it!
Experiencia fantástica: A lovely, modern museum detailing the rich history of Crete! Big enough to be interesting, small enough to be seen in a few hours. Very friendly service and a nice café, highly recommended.
Experiencia fantástica: We did like it, 20€ per family, 1h to spend and see history of city, looks cool
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful museum a must visit in your trip to Crete. I appreciate their observance of Covid policies. One of the greatest museums in Greece.
Experiencia fantástica: The 3rd must see in Heraclion because of Theotokopoulos and Cretan school paintings, Venetian artifacts and Kazantzakis collection.
Experiencia fantástica: You need to come here to understand the island of Crete... There are some things here that will blow your mind with their historic value.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautifully curated exhibition with varied historical content. Some examples from the Ethnographic displays fascinating with clothing, embroidery, weaving all providing insights to the the folk country self sufficient lives before. A World War II exhibit with audio pieces by Soldiers and Fighters . Also a fascinating Nikos Kazantzakis Collection, including his library, desk furniture from his Antibes Study. He wrote, “…I will willingly give the Museum… anything valuable I have connected to my long, laborious, intellectual life. Thus preserving the cell where a Heraklion labourer of the intellect has worked for so many years …” (Letter from N. Kazantzakis to SCHS, 9th January 1957). With the above words, he notified the Society of Cretan Historical Studies of his intention to donate personal possessions and archive material to the Historical Museum of Crete, a few months prior to death. Stunning. On the facilities there is a small glass elevator, ground floor toilets - clean and tidy. The cafe team lovely, with an indoor eating area, or to the front (pic) a terrace and at the south side a delightful tree shaded courtyard with cute fountain. We spent about 3 hours there and left feeling elated rather than the usual state of exhausted overwhelm !! Brav
Experiencia fantástica: The museum worths the visit! The cafe also! Nice garden, nice coffee and tasty pancakes!
Experiencia positiva: This is the 2nd museum of Iraklio after the world class Archaeology Museum. It covers Byzantine, Venetian, Arabic and later periods. There are 3 floors of interesting art & historical object. Even a room just dedicated to coins. It’s well worth a visit if you have any interest in the history of Crete. I would say then it is a must see.
Experiencia positiva: It was good. Go there before sightseeing in Iraklion to see what is worth seeing and basics of the history of Crete. For me it wasn't really interactive and I quickly lost interest. The history is really well presented though. In the first room English letters are dark gray on a black background, not well readable
Experiencia fantástica: A very interesting museum about history of the town Heraklion… some information about Kazatzakis…about Second World War , Greek revolution…and much more… four floors…
Experiencia fantástica: A very well laid museum, with no overwelming size and rooms, educational and well presented. Staff was helpful and communicative. Interesting bookshop with plenty if books in both Eng and Grk .
Experiencia fantástica: Nice museum with different historical era on different levels. From the banzantine, venetian, othman to modern history of independence, 2nd world War and modern Greek art. One hour if rushing through but ideally 2 hours will be much better. Clean, well arranged and my highlight was the model of the old city. Where focus lights pinpoint where the pictures or artefacts were taken for. A worthwhile addition to your visit to Heraklios
Experiencia fantástica: Surprisingly good. I thought it was just going to be lots of things to look at but the context and detail surrounding the objects was very good. They tell you the full history of Crete over 3 floors from the Byzantine period to present day. A visit is definitely recommended.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful museum that is well laid out and nicely lit. They also have an amazing collection of religious icons, probably the best pieces we have seen.
Experiencia fantástica: Interesting exhibits beautifully displayed. Crete history from earliest times to modern. Amazing room full of icons and a good cafe with terrace opposite the sea. 5 euros or 3 for concessions.
Experiencia fantástica: A fantastic museum that really educated me on Crete's history. The museum seems to start with the Roman occupation in first century AD and moves up from there. They even have a small portion of Muslim artifacts amid the majority of Christian artifacts. I read nearly each sign and it took me 2 hours to visit the museum fully. This museum is a must visit if you're at all interested in Crete; why it's different from mainland Greece, why Heraklion is such a big city, famous Cretans, etc. My favorite fact was about how multicultural Crete has been since the beginning!
Experiencia fantástica: The most interesting museum I've ever been to. Presents all of Crete's history until today. The coin collection is fantastic, and it is just amazing. One of the most important sights in town !!! ❤️❤️❤️
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to visit and learn. Every room has so many stories to tell you. Great sea views from the Cafe, one of the rare places to take your coffee with that view. A must museum to come back.
Experiencia fantástica: I like this museum. Nice old icons and I like part about battle for the Crete in 1941.
Experiencia fantástica: Went with skepticism, left with admiration. The owners have created an informative, attractive and eclectic series of impressive exhibits covering the relatively recent past from artistic, ecclesiastical, social, political, economic and cultural perspectives. Well worth a visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent museum with very clear and well presented information on the history of Crete. The staff were very friendly and engaged. I visited during a quiet period, and one of the staff (Ionas?) took the time to talk me through the exhibit. Well worth the 5Euro entry.
Experiencia fantástica: I loved this museum .It had some amazing artefacts from coins 350bc to photos & guns from the second world war. From the building outside I never imagined how much there would be inside.
Experiencia fantástica: Surprisingly informative and laid out. I'd never cared about icons before but the display - and guards - here made a compelling case for learning at last. Crete's tragic state in WWII is another emotive display. This place is not for museum junkies only.
Experiencia fantástica: A unique collection of artifacts and items from throughout Crete’s modern history displayed in an inventive and outstanding way. One of the best museums in Greece or anywhere for that matter. Highly recommended and rated by locals expats and tourists
Experiencia fantástica: All the information is nicely presented and the visuals are nice.
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum for all those history buffs who wish to learn more about the island of Crete and its history. A lot of information about the many empires that ruled Crete (Byzantium, Venetian and Turkish). Highly enjoyable.
Experiencia fantástica: A must visit museum in the city of Heraklion .. Three floors of the city's and of the overall island if Crete's history in a great exhibition .. Don't neglect to visit it !!
