🗣️ Ciudad Vieja, Varaždin: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Outstanding castle in town center, great for tourists to visit, don't forget to take tour inside the castle. There is great park around castle to take some rest and enjoy in nature. All other relevant places in town are in walking distance from castle.
Experiencia fantástica: The city is very beautiful, but what particularly attracted me was the kindness and friendliness of the people. A city you want to return to.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing
Experiencia fantástica: My first time in Varaždin and I visited the castle. I learnt so much about the city and the influences of the city. My guide Jelena was top class, like a Varaždinan Google. She made the experience special
Experiencia fantástica: Nice view
Experiencia fantástica: Visited on Public holiday …
Experiencia fantástica: Perfect fairytale backdrop. Suggestion: Sit on the Stančić square and face the castle. You won't regret it. Visit the castle to learn about the rich history of the city and take a stroll around it to admire it from all sides.
Experiencia fantástica: One of those towns nobody knows about but when you visit them they are lovely. Definetly worth a stop and even a stay over night
Experiencia fantástica: I went to this place for the advent carnival. The food is tasty, the prices are good and the people is very friendly. They have some hiking tracks and you can appreciate gardens full of native plants. There is a museum and the church is very pretty. I saw a shooting star here, highly recommended!
Experiencia fantástica: Great, just minute from the city center.
Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely stunning medieval vibes Beautiful place for a wander round & admiring all the gorgeous buildings :)
Experiencia fantástica: Nice and cozy old center. Town with a history.
Experiencia fantástica: It's actually a very nice castle. Seems to be recently refurbished and the paint looks very nice, especially on a winter, cloudy day. Not much to see on the inside, appears everything was closed when we went. However there is a nice berm to walk on that circles the castle, presumably an old moat. Recommend. It's picture worthy. From 12 century.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautifull place i love it! Often i go to have a walk,or coffe to go.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful Old Town of Varaždin, must see if you are driving through northern Croatia. It contains museum of Varaždin, part of which is free to tour. The surroundings of the Old Town are also stunning, and my recommendation is to take a walk and go around the fortress after you visit inside.
Experiencia fantástica: I finally saw the old town of Varaždin live ... beautiful
Experiencia fantástica: Great historical monument. For history lovers, this great monument is worth of seeing.
Experiencia fantástica: There is a pub/art gallery 'Lokal' right next to Tourist office in Varaždin old town. They have delicious food and drinks and price is very affordable. Must try is sausage with cabbage and egg and blueberries 'strukli'. They also sell delicious 'borovnica' - blueberry liqueur. :)
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful old town in baroque town of Varaždin. Great for relaxation...there are many caffees and restaurant nearby
Experiencia fantástica: Old town Varaždin has a highly creative vibe. It is dotted with historical sights connected to the noble family Zrinski combined with modern touches of uniquely designed cafés, pubs, local food at great price. Varaždin itself, served as the capital city until a fire changed its destiny with Zagreb / Kaptol taking over the role. A definite must when travelling far north Croatia.
Experiencia fantástica: It was an experience of a lifetime, such an amazing historical plac
Experiencia fantástica: Place definitely worth a visit when you are in Varaždin. Walk on the hills around Old Town. They offer lovely views.
Experiencia fantástica: The so called "Špancirfest" is the best part of the year in Varaždin. All the roads are closed and thousands of smiling faces. Street food from all over the world, craft beer of all styles and colours, top quality wines, concerts and DJs in thick shade, make the area in front of the Old Town walls a must visit place. Will put that on my every years calander!
Experiencia fantástica: Beautifull place. Must s
Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely stunning place, small enough to walk around and big enough to make for a good day out. This old town is probably one of the greenest in Croatia and it is filled with spots for great pictures.

Experiencia fantástica: In the Vindija cave near Varazdin, the best preserved remains of Neanderthals in the world, about 30,000 years old, were found. According to archaeological findings, the area of the city was settled in the Roman era, as evidenced by the names of the two existing streets today - Via Militum and Via Petovia (today's Braće Radić and Optujska streets). The history of Varaždin is closely linked to the history of the medieval Varaždin County. There are assumptions that prior to the 12th century there was a tribal parish of Varaždin. According to the preserved sources, it can be clearly seen that the Varaždin and Zagorje counties existed in the developed and the late Middle Ages. About 1350, a reorganization of counties created a large county of Varaždin, which, among other things, included some neighboring counties. From the mid-14th century, the Varaždin County was divided into smaller counties that mostly coincided with the old counties. Varaždin was first mentioned in 1181. Croatian-Hungarian King Bela III. In 1194, his son Emerik (Mirko) entrusted Croatian territory to management, excluding his younger son Andri from the system of government. He ordered Andrius to go to the crusade and Emerika to become king. After that, Varaždin is developing as a typical medieval privileged city, and soon becomes the most popular city of today's area of continental Croatia (the then Kingdom of Slavonia). Varaždin was not only the seat of the Varaždin County, but also often the place where the sessions were held. Varaždin quickly became a shopping center because it was at the crossroads of important medieval roads that connected Hungary with the Adriatic Sea, but also the Kingdom of Slavonia with the neighboring Vojvodina Styria. With the trade, the craft began to develop rapidly. Prosperity lasted until the Varaždin area and Varazdin itself did not jeopardize the Ottomans. It seems that one of the biggest breakthroughs of the Ottomans in the Varaždin area was in 1532. Sultan Suleiman I .. In the summer of 1532, the main Habsburg city of Vienna was occupied. On the way, Nikola Jurisic successfully opposed Kiseg. Sulejman I., after the failure of Kis, left the intention of conquering Vienna and returned to the Ottoman Empire. In order to protect the population from the Ottoman attacks, an excitation system was established that was established in 1603 according to the decisions of the Croatian Parliament. The arrival of the enemy had to be announced by firing guns, and each had to shoot with the weapon in his hand to the side where the shooting was. After the signing of the peace, the king rewarded Tom Erdödy for the merit of war and defense of the Croatian kingdom. In 1607, he gave him a Varaždin fortress, possessions around Varaždin, and appointed him as hereditary mayor of Varaždin. Varaždin was also the church seat, ie. the center of the Varazdin Archdiocese of the Zagreb Diocese. The oldest list of the parish of the Varaždin arhiđakonata in the early new century is from 1638. Varaždin City Municipality eventually acquired numerous properties and real estate, part of which was leased out. Often, residents of Varaždin Toplica were the tenants of some Varaždin real estate. Maria Theresa tried to strengthen absolute power and a unique state. Because of that she tended to narrow down the power of the Croatian and Hungarian nobility. In 1767 the Queen founded the first modern Croatian government, the Croatian Royal Council, whose center was in Varaždin, and after the great Varaždin fire in 1776 it was moved to Zagreb. From 1767 to 1776, Varaždin was the capital of Croatia, and there are numerous palaces and public buildings that are preserved to this day and give it a characteristic feature of the Baroque city. Varaždin entered the 20th century with a developed social and economic life. The stagnation of economic functions came after the First World War. After the Second World War there is a further process of modernization and accelerated industrialization, but also the establishment of the first higher education institutions.
