Experiencia fantástica: Not large but a definite can't miss if history and archaeology is part of your reason to be in this historic city. A good plan is to come here after exploring the fortress; you get to cool off from the heat of outdoors

Experiencia fantástica: 2nd time to visit this most wonderful of Archaeological Museums. Give yourself time to marvel at the ingenuity and care that the ancient Greeks, etc lavished on their everyday needs. Breathtaking.

Experiencia positiva: Its a very small exhibit within a single room so, don’t expect a Louvre, however, there are some very interesting pieces. The collection is composed of pottery, bronze figures, weapons, pieces of sarcophagus etc, from varies archeological sites nearby. Worth a visit! Oh and, the ticket is 4 euros per person.

Experiencia fantástica: It's a one-room museum/exposition, but there are a lot of artefacts and information about them (from the prepalatial to Venetian rule times). We took about one hour reading and looking everything. If you are into history, it's really nice!

Experiencia fantástica: It is such a small museum, well air-conditioned and organised. I liked the pieces demonstrated there. Some of them were very well known antique pieces. What I did not like was being followed by the staff to make sure that I was not taking photos of the forbidden items. I can understand that but personally I do not feel comfortable when I am being watched. Sadly I cannot suggest a solution. Anyway! The museum is in the middle of the old town. So enjoy a cup of nice Greek coffee in a nearby outdoor café. The staff made me smile. I felt visiting a family as family members and neighbours were popping in to say hello and I liked that vibe. I like the music in the background. It was heavenly but forgot to ask! I think the staff cannot speak English well which is perfectly normal as they do not leave in the UK. However it was a little bit limiting though. Enjoy!

Experiencia fantástica: All historical periods concentrated in a very small cozy space. Intence exhibit with good explanations, nice museum playbook for kids. Even after many other archeological museums there were news to find here. Plus the nice neighbourhood. Definitely worth visiting.

Experiencia fantástica: Unlike the palace of Knossos, this lovely little museum presents the archaeology from the Rethymno province in a succinct timeline of Cretan history. Some beautiful Roman artifacts on display. Small, but perfectly formed. 30 mins, €2. Descriptions in Greek and English only.

Experiencia fantástica: This museum is far, far smaller than the one in Heraklion but the depth and quality of the information and the number of artifacts was easily enough to occupy me and my wife for 2-3 hours. It's generally well laid out in nearly complete chronological order, working anti-clockwise around the room starting with the outside wall nearest the entrance. The only complication is spotting when to cross to the centre to read info. It covers the occupied history of Crete from paleolithic period to the Byzantine period and there are some incredible items to look at. Like all the museums in Crete, I was staggered by what an excellent job the Ministry of Culture has done in ensuring there is high quality, detailed information in both English and Greek. No dodgy 'Gringlish' translations here. If I had one criticism, it's that the staff weren't overly friendly and one lady was almost offensively miserable and abrupt in her manner. Not enough of an issue to detract a star though.

Experiencia fantástica: A small museum with exhibits from the u prehistoric until Venetian time. It's worth the 2€ entrance!

Experiencia fantástica: I took the time to read the explainations regarding the different part of Rethymno and the Cretan history, which talk about the evolution of the civilization from the prehistory till the Venitian era. Nice reading and artifacts. Sure it takes a lot more than 10 minutes to visit. 2€ for a museum..? Despite being a bit little, it's really worth it..!

Experiencia fantástica: The guide was very knowledgeable and explained all about the exhibits and artefacts. Very enjoyable visit.

Experiencia fantástica: Small but interesting museum. Ticket 2 EUR.

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent, beautifully designed and newly opened exhibition space. First rate curation and some stunning objects. Most important: a coherent, accurate narration of the history of the Rethymnon region starting 140,000 years ago and ending with the Venetian dominion of the island. Do not miss this museum.
