Beautifully designed museum with great current shows such as native american art, illustration covers from the 30's and a crazy permanent collection including old masters, Hudson River painters, and some classic European painters. Don't miss this, it's a wonderful experience!!

Experiencia positiva: What a lovely collection of paintings (mostly) and drawings. I was impressed by the collection of The Eight (Robert Henri and his followers in the Ashcan School). I was, however, disappointed in not seeing any art by the Precisionists (Scheeler, Murphy, et al) and their machine aesthetic works. The regionalism works, especially the huge murals, are very impressive and capture a moment in time in America! The modern wing of the museum is a beautiful building, easy to navigate. Parking is easy. This museum is a little gem.

Experiencia fantástica: The New Britain Museum of American Art is - yes, a gem. The building is great, easy to get around, accessible for one guest using a wheelchair (they had one available). There isn't a ton of any one thing, but they have a nicely curated collection of everything. The Bret Harte murals are unlike anything I've seen before, and make quite an impression.

But they do have some exhibits that celebrates the history of American art in its many different forms. Their exhibits can be thought provoking, and often times, mind blowing.

Experiencia positiva: Went there for an event that had food, music and a dance floor. My friend and I were pretty much the only ones walking around the gallery in the beginning . It was fine for awhile but then one of the “security” guys was walking by us like every 20 seconds everywhere we walked. Ok first of all, there are better paintings at Homegoods and Marshall’s, and second of all, I can’t steal a painting and stuff it in my tiny purse. I felt like I was untrusted and literally being hunted. You have like 8 cameras in every area so why am I physically being stalked. It left me disgusted, I will never go there again.

Experiencia fantástica: First Friday!! Every first friday of the month they hire a band, put out snacks and sell drinks - and you go and dig the art and the vibe. Its not to be missed- membership costs less but its under $20 for the pleasure of an evening out at the most renowned collection of American Art in rhe USA. Look to the first Friday in Jan. 2024 to go have a blast. Doors open at 5:30 and folks line up starting at 5 pm to get a coveted table. Support the arts!

Experiencia fantástica: A world class museum from the wonderful selections to the zen-like (at least to me) physical space. Quite frankly, I was surprised and greatly impressed. Never thought I’d see something like this in CT. It’s the first museum in the US dedicated to American artists. The curator(s) have done an amazing job. Warhol, Okeefe, Moses, Sargent, Remington, Rockwell, et al. are all represented. Had lunch at the beautiful cafe overlooking the park. We visited on a Thus. No line to get in. There were three of us. Clinton library offers free tickets for up to four folks. You have to reserve those tickets first. It was a great day.

Experiencia fantástica: Went specifically to see a mixed media on canvas piece by Amy LaBossiere... Gladwell's Reflection. It was accepted into the 53rd Nor'Easter Show of regional artists. Please go before Oct 8 as you can then vote for her piece to win as visitor favorite!

Experiencia fantástica: This is a charming musium with a nice collection of art. They have a lot from different time periods and movements, including a couple that directly reference other works they have in their collection. They also have some which I'm not too crazy about, so I didn't take a lot of time to study. Mostly the postmodernism pieces. Overall, I think the place is too small. However, I don't have the funds to donate to give them a vew wing.

Experiencia fantástica: Didn’t know this place existed but glad I went along with family to check it out. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. Stayed for close to an hour and a half. The building itself is very nice and well maintained. The galleries are spacious with plenty of room to get around and see paintings from differing vantage points. I was a big fan of the impressionist artwork! The whole exhibit on Walter Wick and I Spy has fantastic. Very interactive and we had a lot of fun as a family trying to find all the hidden objects!

Experiencia fantástica: As far as small art museums go, museum was pretty fantastic. It was clean and well maintained . We loved the Walter Wick exhibit. They had a lot of prints of his work and my kids loved finding the hidden objects. Another highlight was the videos of Walter Wick"s Rube Goldberg machines.

Experiencia negativa: Went there to see the Ansel Adams exhibit...very disappointed. As a long time pro photographer, Ansel Adams is like a god in photography and to have other photographers' pictures displayed alongside the Adams ones in an Adams exhibit is sacrilege and offensive. Who made that decision? The Adams prints were also small, under glass, and not properly lit. I've seen large Adams original prints in the Weston Gallery in Monteray, Ca. where they were properly lit, not under glass, and sparkled. they were dazzling. That was my level of expectation the NBAA exhibit didn't meet. The Walter Wick exhibit is good as is the rest of the museum.

Experiencia fantástica: Ohh what a night!! Highly recommend the Museum After Dark Halloween Event at the museum. It's done every year and heard many wonderful things of it but never went. This year we made it happen and glad we did! All rooms were open in the museum To see , some had restrictions of course ( no food/ drinks) but there was food,/snacks and drinks . The DJ was amazing and we danced the night away! It was a wonderful fun crowd and great costumes! They had a Photo Booth, and then there was a vendor or 2 doing reading and selling spooky stuff! It was from 8-11pm , wish it went 1 more hr! Lol it was that much fun! They do An amazing job putting this event together!

Experiencia fantástica: Went for Thursday Happy Hour with Dr. Violin. The admission was free after 5pm for Happy Hour only. The music was amazing and great turnout of people. Food and drinks reasonably priced - a beer was $4. I would definitely go back.

Experiencia fantástica: A cool spot to check out. The art they have is interesting and beautiful, well worth the $15 admission. We stayed for about an hour and a half. You won’t find Monet there but you’ll find those that studies with him and those who opposed the comparison. I think I learned more just from reading the plaques than I did in art history class or even New York museums.

They have two nice little children's sections as well, which is wonderful for parents since many art museums are not really kid friendly. We are all lucky to have this here.

Experiencia fantástica: Went thinking it would be a small museum and quick visit. Turned out to have much more than expected with American art from pre-revolutionary war tines to modern art. Definitely worth a visit. We took 4 hours to see the permanent collection and spent time with the special exhibit until we needed to leave for a dinner commitment.

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter and I came to the museum yesterday to see the Walter Wick exhibit. It was absolutely enchanting and perfect for all ages. The artist is so creative with the dioramas in which there is so much detail that it takes time to notice everything. There are also photographs containing children's toys that we can all recognize, combined with unusual miniature items. It was a complete delight and we will go back to see it again.

Was very interesting the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of all the different art work, said she was a former teacher so was easy to be a guide answering everyone questions. The staff that greeted us at the door was very friendly and helpful for a little more than admission for two adults we could get a year membership for family package.

Experiencia fantástica: We're so lucky to have such an important little gem of a museum so close! Expertly curated, endlessly inspiring, and full of treasures. I've been a member for many years and will continue to be a patron for as long as I'm in the area. The docents are knowledgeable, the artwork is fresh and constantly changing, and the building itself is gorgeous. This is a great place to take kids, or just visit by yourself. Monthly cocktail hours and events, a fantastic gift shop, and great food in the cafe. Don't sleep on this place. You'll love it!

Experiencia positiva: Nice museum right in the middle of New Britain. The first floor is permanent fixtures then the second floor has rotating installments. Today was Ansel Adams and Walter Wick (I Spy guy). It's pretty expensive paying full price, but free with a pass from your library.

Experiencia fantástica: Nice museum with a wonderful collection of American art through the years. Especially enjoyed the Thomas Hart Benton works, having "reported" on him in elementary school in Camdenton, Missouri.

Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite museums in Connecticut. Great permanent and special exhibits. All this and an adjoining park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. This place is a must stop in Central Connecticut.

Experiencia fantástica: This museum had plenty of art across different mediums for art enthusiasts to enjoy. It's well laid out and the sections each have enough context for you to truly take in what you are viewing. I enjoyed the vibrant displays and all of the Black exhibits were so powerful. The Native American pieces are also powerful and tell powerful stories. I would encourage anyone to visit this museum to enjoy all of its art.

Experiencia fantástica: It was such a lovely experience working with the New Britain Museum of Art on Saturday, May 20th, 2023! Upon realizing that my client's schedule outdoor wedding was going to be rained out, I guided them through a rain plan and they were lucky enough that the NB Museum was available! They were so accommodating, had everything ready for their ceremony, and Sarah was super helpful telling us how I could photograph in the different areas of the museum for their portraits. The photos came out beautiful, and my clients are so happy! Looking forward to photographing here again!

Experiencia fantástica: I somehow end up in the NBMAA bathroom. It, the museum not the bathroom, has always been a pinnacle of my childhood. There was an after school program where we went to the museum every day after school. We did fun activities like recreate old paintings with costumes and props. Alas the Milton Avery (my favorite) was in storage but I did find a new favorite, the Sleeping Babies right across from the old NBMAA favorite, Seal Rock by Albert Bierstadt.

Experiencia negativa: Place unorganized for the Art event for the Berlin schools. Parking lot was overfilled, no breathing room ,sea of people it was a germ fest. Never been to a event so poorly managed. It was a relief to be out of there.

Experiencia fantástica: I grew up in New Britain. I've enjoyed this museum since childhood. It changes the displays often, so there's always something new.

Experiencia fantástica: I liked the paintings. My favorite was the Feast of the Redeemer. The benches were cool, each one having a unique design to match the theme of the room it is in. The gift shop had some cool gifts. Although, if you are buying something wooden, check for dents; the cat puzzle I bought was the only perfect one in the store.
