🗣️ Museo de Arte Americano Smithsonian: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Vey big museum with many interesting and beautiful paintings. Make sure you have enough time when visiting.
Experiencia fantástica: Easy to get to, no tickets needed in advance and really interesting art!
Experiencia fantástica: Had a fantastic time here. I was surprised that my favorite part of the museum was the quilts. It's hard to complain about any Smithsonian museum but this and the museum of natural history were my favorites.
Experiencia fantástica: Some of the art in this museum made me sad. Some of it made me smile and even laugh. It also made me feel solidarity with other races. Beautiful museum that is best of all completely and entirely free to see and enjoy
Experiencia fantástica: Enjoyed a nice evening event hosted in the courtyard. Which is enclosed and very comfortable.
Experiencia fantástica: This museum has a lot of interesting art. If I was an art student, I would be here all the time. There are way too many things to see in a few hours. The court has an incredible glass roof, and it is air-conditioned.
Experiencia fantástica: We attended the Arcade 2024 day, and had a blast (including two kids). The hall on the first floor is dedicated to the show, there were so many different games you could try and play (for most of them, there was a line, for 5-15mins waiting time). Also there was a band playing the music in the classic games, very entertaining and excellent for taking a break. If that’s not enough, you could find a table and get some drink or coffee. After staying at the arcade show for over 1h, we headed straight to the third floor, to do the kid’s scavenger hunt, get the piece of paper at the first floor entry. The scavenger hunt took us 2 hours, to find those eight art pieces, listen to the audio tour, discuss a few questions and figure out the hidden letter of each painting. All those materials were online, and easy to navigate and use. At the end we solved the puzzle while having a great time. I hope they will update the materials for the kids’s scavenger hunter program, so that when we return next time, we could learn something new:) It’s truly an amazing art gallery/museum, which is free and suits everyone’s exploring spirits.
Experiencia fantástica: Great exhibit of Amish quilts!!!
Experiencia fantástica: Went there with my mother in law to see quilting exhibits. She is quilting artist. We had outstanding experience and saw exceptional collection. The museum is free of charge!
Experiencia fantástica: We had a fantastic experience here. We almost didn’t go to this museum because it wasn’t in the Mall. But boy, this museum was very well organised, had really good collection, and the lockers were functioning. There was also a dance performance in the main atrium on the ground floor. This museum was divided into two wings: portrait (which we didn’t really care for but could still appreciate) and art (mostly paintings), all of which done by American artists. They had six ongoing exhibitions and that was really nice. The interior was also neat. Especially the two stairs connecting first through third floor. The hidden gem was the restoration center. It’s so beautiful!! We’re glad we came here. One of our favourites art museums in DC. In fact, it’s our number 2! Would definitely recommend it.
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum to see some spectacular American fine arts from 1900 onwards! I would highly recommend if American art is what your eyes are craving for!
Experiencia fantástica: Great art, if you like this sort of thing...go have a look.
Experiencia fantástica: Really good experience. There's another museum that has the original van gogh, but it closed by the time we got there. This is another awesome museum. I would say jump to the third floor(I found the first one kind of underwhelming, but it depends on what you like!) The second floor art was also displayed in a very lovely way. Each room felt like entering another Era with different personalities and people. I especially liked the detailed bg on some of the paintings
Experiencia fantástica: If nothing else, please visit the National Portrait Gallery. The artwork is always amazing and exceptional.
Experiencia fantástica: I only had one hour and could have easily of spent a couple more here. For sure go see the Da Vinci.
Experiencia fantástica: The courtyard cafe is an attraction of its own
Experiencia fantástica: Great for art lovers of all
Experiencia fantástica: The portrait galleries of significant Americans and presidents alone are a big enough reason to go here. The exhibits are phenomenal.
Experiencia fantástica: Interesting exhibits and the portraits of presidents. Plenty of bathrooms and elevators. Very helpful staff. Positive experience
Experiencia fantástica: Very nice museum and gorgeous courtyard!
Experiencia positiva: Striking pieces and huge range of styles of American artists. Galleries were cohesive and informative. Huge museum would easily take several hours to see and learn about every piece.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing art collection to be enjoy for free.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing experience and a great selection of portraits and art to see solo or with your family.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful exhibits and museum! ♥️
Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite museums in DC! The revolving exhibits are unique and interesting and the permanent collection is fun for history lovers. The covered courtyard is a great place to relax and have a drink and rest in the AC for a bit.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful museum. Free entry and intriguing exhibits. I could spend all day here!!!
Experiencia fantástica: I picked this museum because it was literally an 8-minute walk from my hotel. I feel like I couldn't have chosen better for my first full Smithsonian museum experience! I love that this museum is free to the public! Nothing better than seeing our national treasures put on display for the public to view. I highly recommend the self-guided tour. The museum is vast but very approachable. I think the average person can see the majority of exhibits in an hour and a half. The interior atrium Courtyard is an exhibit on its own.
Experiencia fantástica: The Smithsonian American Art Museum is a must-visit for art lovers. It's easily accessible and free to enter, making it an ideal destination. The museum houses an extensive collection, featuring works by renowned artists such as Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, and John Singer Sargent. The exhibits cover a wide range of American art, from colonial to contemporary. Highlights include Hopper's evocative cityscapes and 0'Keeffe's iconic Southwestern scenes. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to assist, enhancing the visitor experience.
Experiencia positiva: All of Washington’s museums have free admission! We really enjoyed this one.
Experiencia fantástica: Always a great way to spend the morning
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing place with free entry. Amazing art and the staff is very helpful. Must see the presidential portraits they’re fantastic
Experiencia negativa: My soul seethes with an explosive fury, a raging anger ignited by my accursed visit to that so-called museum. How I curse the fateful moment my footsteps betrayed me, leading me into that pit of desolation, that mockery of culture, that insidious leech upon the veins of our society's coffers. The seething vitriol within me demands expression, and I will give it voice, every iota of my wrath translated into words that scorch the very parchment they are inscribed upon. From the threshold, the air seemed to vibrate with a foreboding malice, a silent cacophony of neglect and disdain. This is not a museum; it is a wasteland of squandered potential and misused funds, a testament to the galling ineptitude of those who dare call themselves custodians of art. If they can be called such, the walls are draped in mediocrity, each piece of "art" more offensive to the senses than the last. I have seen refuse more worthy of admiration and contemplation than the drivel displayed here. Let me begin with the so-called "exhibits." These atrocities of alleged artistic expression bear no resemblance to anything remotely deserving of that noble designation. They are the epitome of literal and figurative garbage, masquerading under modern art's guise. I attach two specimens for your perusal, though I hesitate to defile your eyes with their grotesque presence. Yet, it would be best if you witnessed the sheer magnitude of this travesty. The first abomination I encountered was a conglomeration of rusted metal shards haphazardly welded together in a grotesque parody of sculpture. It exuded an aura of decay and neglect, a repulsive testament to the artist's lack of skill and vision. This wretched piece, devoid of aesthetic value, stood as a harrowing reminder of the abyss into which our cultural standards plummeted. Next, I stumbled upon an installation that can only be described as an affront to human dignity. A pile of discarded plastic, arranged with no discernible pattern or purpose, sat upon a pedestal as if mocking the very concept of creativity. The sheer audacity of presenting such drivel as art insults every true artist who graced this earth. It is a slap in the face to all who revere the transformative power of genuine artistic expression. And then there were the people, those wretched souls who dared to call themselves the staff. Insulting and evil, their presence tainted this accursed place's already miserable atmosphere. Their eyes glinted with vicious satisfaction as they basked in the suffering of those foolish enough to seek enlightenment within these cursed walls. There was no irony in their actions, no hidden depths of meaning to be uncovered. They were simply embodiments of malice, revelling in the misery they perpetuated. I sought understanding and insight into the rationale behind this abomination. Yet, my attempts to engage with a staff member were met with a wall of unhelpfulness. Their disdain was palpable, their responses curt and dismissive. It was as if they took perverse pleasure in my discomfort, relishing the opportunity to crush any hope I had of finding meaning in this wretched place. This is a museum within a mall, a cruel joke in itself. A beacon of despair amidst the gaudy consumerism surrounding it, it stands as a monument to the failure of our society to appreciate true art. It is a black hole of cultural impoverishment, sucking the very life out of all who enter its vicious grasp.
Experiencia fantástica: Free admission. Enjoyed video about Ghandi, Jack Johnson, Marion Anderson, and others. Frederick Douglass five-screen video feature was awesome.
Experiencia fantástica: Stellar. Spent 5 hours saw approx 90% Loved WPA art, nature, Presidential Portraits...so much history.
Experiencia fantástica: Outstanding! The variety and volume is sure to please any visitor. It is connected to the National Portrait Gallery; if you are planning on visiting both, you should probably allow an entire day.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent museum and very helpful staff. It's well laid out and clean. The curators did a fantastic job!
Experiencia fantástica: I forget how amazing this museum is. I typically just go to the Kogod Courtyard or parts of the Portrait Gallery. It's kind of confusing navigating between the American Art Museum and the Portrait Gallery since they both take up areas on all floors. The third floor modern art section is definitely worth a visit.
Experiencia positiva: The museum is much larger than the eye. Highlights for me were the contemporary art section and the creepy hologram video performance. I wish the president portraits were a bit more informative and bulletin as to what they accomplished and messed up. Some of them guys I had no idea were presidents, and why were they haha. The Obama wall with the back having Trump was crazy - very dramatic. Can't believe Beyonce made it into this museum.
Experiencia fantástica: This is one of the best free museums in the country. GO SEE IT at the first opportunity!
Experiencia fantástica: Well-curated display, comfortable viewing, some delightful discoveries…. A couple of afternoons is not at all enough
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful Staff and the Museum is beautifully curated. The Presidential Potraits are certainly not to be missed.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museums in the world.
Experiencia fantástica: Quick visit, but loved the museum. Has a great layout.
Experiencia fantástica: This museum is absolutely huge and has so much art to see. If you like art I definitely recommend this one. Not exactly kid friendly but the location has much to offer.
Experiencia fantástica: This is a very nice museum. The people are very helpful and it was one of the view big museums that actually allowed me to schedule a personal viewing. I guess I expected more from their collection, although I never felt disappointed. They have a beautiful exhibition with exciting modern art. The classics are al there, but, as with other museums, their collection is too big to fit everything into the museum. This always leaves me wanting more. Even after spending two hours in the museum and feeling exhausted I always miss at least some great works. Why not more Wyeth? More Hopper, more Stella, more Davis, more O'Keefe? I know it's not possible, but there's so much beauty there. Enough incentive to come back.
Experiencia fantástica: We left the mall, walking to get there..pleasant walk about 10 minutes..had never been. We loved it, it was interesting beyond our expecting, admittedly it did appeal to our particular interests, folk art history. It was uncrowded, no waiting to see exhibits..we were almost alone in sone wings....and this was a good wx weekend day..way different than the crowds we were fighting on the mall museums. An added bonus was it was in retail commercial area, there places to eat..not crowded..we even walked by Fords theatre. I would highly recommend the short walk up to the American Art museum if your on the mall and need a break from the hustle and bustle.
Experiencia positiva: Might as well be named the "White Guilt Art Collection," at least when I was there. The older landscape paintings are stunning. The more modern stuff... less so lol. The National Portrait Gallery section is mostly good but some of the descriptions are surprisingly politically charged.
Experiencia fantástica: Always one of the best places to enjoy arts.
Experiencia fantástica: Always have a great time visiting here. Center court yard is such a good experience. Just walk in, go past the help desk and through doors, and enjoy. I just wish I could be closer to visit every day
Experiencia fantástica: This was a stunning selection of art, collected into themed regions with a beautiful yet not too crowded presentation. Our visit sought out the Exhibition of the artwork made by Alma Thomas. My son based a school project on Alma Thomas' paintings and he was delighted to see the real deal on display.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to visit. All the person there are super helpful.
Experiencia fantástica: Loved coming to view the orchid exhibit with all different varieties. Stayed to view the paintings and artwork. Highly recommend. Not too far from the metro and super nice facility. Entry is free.
Experiencia fantástica: The Smithsonian American Art Museum offers a captivating journey through the diverse tapestry of American creativity. From iconic masterpieces to lesser-known gems, the collection beautifully showcases the nation's artistic evolution. The museum's thoughtful curation and engaging exhibits provide visitors with both insight and inspiration. With its welcoming atmosphere and informative presentations, it's a haven for art enthusiasts of all ages. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or simply curious about American art, a visit to the Smithsonian American Art Museum promises an enriching experience that celebrates the richness and diversity of the American artistic landscape.
Experiencia positiva: Beautiful place if you are into art!!! A must visit
Experiencia fantástica: I cannot find the right words...it is a wonderful, wonderful museum with s great staff, security and helpful people. I could live inside! Thank you from Mainz, Germany. 25.03.2024
Experiencia fantástica: It's free entry and a good place to see art of all kind and pass time. Loved it!!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing collection of portraits. I enjoyed seeing the faces of so many important people, that are part of our history. The president’s exhibition is also impressive. I enjoyed the different styles of painting according to the time when they were painted. I particularly enjoyed the information provided next to each portrait. The building is so inviting, the patio beautiful! Orchid exhibition is colorful, joyful and relaxing. It is easy to get to the museum, next to the Metro line. I am going back today. Free museums are awesome!
Experiencia fantástica: An amazing experience. The magnificence of the artwork is complimented by the beauty of the building. You are up close and personal with the works of Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Cezanne, Monet and countless other Master artisans. The photo of the painted table setting w the plate of oysters was created in the 1600s. The furniture gallery was a great surprise and full of treasures.
Experiencia fantástica: This place if filled with rich, diverse American history. I love seeing and learning about the accomplishments of so many people who paid a heavy price to add a little light to this work during their lifespan.
Experiencia fantástica: A fantastic and beautifully curated collection of work. As an art history teacher and lover of all things art, I truly enjoyed the experience!
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful place great place for history the kids heck anything nice part the change it up from time to time to keep people coming back I would recommend this place to anyone
Experiencia fantástica: Rotating exhibits on the first and second floor, with the third housing a more permanent Modern Art wing. Wide variety of styles and media, from oil on canvas to tinfoil sculpture. Galleries are level, easily traversed, and include benches and there are several marked elevators. Seems considerate of visitors who may have reduced mobility. Exhibits are diverse enough to hold the attention of younger visitors, and there is some kind of QR code scavenger hunt on a few of the placards.
Experiencia positiva: Great environment and exhibits. However the constant ideology hammering became really tiresome. I just wanted to see art not get lectured on how evil my country is at every contrived opportunity. Also the staff in general wasn't too knowledgable.
Experiencia fantástica: The American Art Museum was great and deceptively large! I ended up liking the museum a lot more than I thought. Make sure you visit the presidential portrait gallery, and modern art exhibits on the 3rd floor.
Experiencia fantástica: I'm glad that I made time to see this wonderful gallery in the evening after the other museums had closed. Albert Bierstadt's "Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains" was the number one painting in my opinion, it just has to be seen (it's posted in this review). The electronic superhighway is an incredible example of intricate modern art, with the neon tubing delineating the state shapes and positions and the TV screens filling each state; it's something to marvel at for several minutes. On the portrait gallery side, I'd have to say my favourite was the Presidents Hall.
Experiencia positiva: Art is so scarce thing if you move from one place to other. The American museum of art is opened all days of week till 7pm in the evening. This museum has all different kinds of American art done over centuries which are very innovative and silly also. Some art will blow your mind and some will make you think why is that art there. They have all the portraits of American presidents from the very first to till date and also you will see some famous landscapes that will make you feel to believe that it is digital print but it’s hand painted by brush. If you like to see the variation you should must visit some time.
Experiencia fantástica: Such an exquisite experience and I paid nothing to enter the building. We are very spoiled here in DC. So many spectacular museums all for free!
Experiencia fantástica: Suggested donation museum, sporadic visit after work Thursday and it was pretty calm and uncrowded. The collections were interesting and the museum itself is beautiful, especially the courtyard! Didn't get to see everything in the 1.5ish hours we had, but we'll return. Definitely worth a visit
Experiencia fantástica: Nice and big museum. Can get the map at the front desk, total 4 floors.
Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely amazing! Went with a teen and he enjoyed the art as much as we did. His favourite was the section about the American presidents and the Champions. We spent several hours at the museum and still hadn’t seen all the rooms/art. There is a kids education center for the younger kids on the first level. They can make art/do crafts and play with blocks. Highly recommended!
Experiencia fantástica: I went early primarily to visit the Future of Orchids exhibit which was smaller than I expected but was colorful and beautifully displayed. I enjoyed the rest of the museum and a self tour can easily fill a 3-4 hour time slot. The American Art Museum is connected to the Portrait Museum which houses portraits and paintings of historic figures along with pop culture icons. I went solo on a Sunday Morning around 11:30am. I found free parking immediately and near the building. Once inside the museum was bustling but not too busy with plenty of space to admire the art and take pics without crowding. The museum is split into two wings and each side has 3 levels. Restrooms, elevators and stairs are throughout the museum and are clearly marked and easily accessible. There are also comfortable cushioned seating all around the museum if you need to sit and rest (or admire). I enjoyed the split and themed rooms which allowed me to pick and choose which displays I wanted to see. There are so much different varieties of art for everyone to enjoy no matter your style. I definitely would go again. It's a great recommendation for a day out or early evening date (closes at 7pm).
Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed my time there!
Experiencia fantástica: My visit to the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, was an exceptional experience. Housing a remarkable collection, it beautifully encapsulates the essence of American art. Each exhibit, meticulously curated, offers deep insights into America's cultural heritage. The architecture of the museum itself is striking, adding to the visit's allure. The knowledgeable staff enhances the experience. Ideal for art and history enthusiasts, I recommend dedicating ample time to truly appreciate its offerings.
Experiencia fantástica: Gorgeous and definitely learned alot.
Experiencia fantástica: This museum was beautiful. I didn’t anticipate it being so big. I recommend planning for at least 3 hours. Art was breath taking.
Experiencia fantástica: Visited for a day trip, on a Friday, in late December, with adult family, and 3 teens. Everyone had a nice experience. Big, beautiful museum and a lot of walking. No crowds on the day that we were there. Easy, safe parking located at a garage across the street, from main entrance that only cost us $22. We all felt safe and enjoyed our visit. Looking forward to going again one day in the Spring.
Experiencia fantástica: It is one of the best museums in the mall. I could spend hours in here. I talked with an art student who helped me understand what I was looking at. Art is amazing. Please visit this place. You won’t regret it.
Experiencia fantástica: A great museum, especially enjoyed the presidential section.
Experiencia fantástica: Open until 7pm on weekdays. Beautiful courtyard between the two museums with live foliage, impressive architecture, and a coffee shop.
Experiencia fantástica: I really like the courtyard that connects both museums. It is bigger that looks, and it is hard to navigate. Every time I visit a different area. Very close to Chinatown/Gallery place metro station (Green and Red Line). Opens after 11 am
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum, huge variety of art
Experiencia fantástica: Had the most wonderful time viewing the presidential portraits and learning new things about each of them, which were actually different from the typical facts we normally hear. My favorite part was talking to Anthony, a staff member in the presidential portrait area, who was engaging and chatted with us about the most interesting things about his favorite presidents, and then I got to share mine! He also directed us to other areas of interest in the SAAM. And then gave us guidance as to other areas in D.C. we should visit during our trip. The personal attention made my visit all the more enjoyable. I always enjoy when the staff interacts, and educates me with their local knowledge.
Experiencia fantástica: Truly lovely experience for an art lover. Helpful people stationed throughout the museum.
Experiencia fantástica: Stunning. The indoor courtyard with natural light is heavenly. Beautiful place with friendly workers. Only compliant is the printed map is a bit confusing, floors seem to be rotated and not line up from 1st to 2nd floor.
Experiencia fantástica: Several years ago I watched someone walk into one of the galleries, going from painting to painting, snapping a photo of each without ever actually looking at any of them. I realized how lucky I am to be able to come back again and again to enjoy this amazing collection of paintings and sculpture. For those not so lucky, volunteers at the information desk are really helpful to visitors with limited time and so many wonderful things to see. The Modern and Contemporary Galleries have reopened and are fabulous.
Experiencia fantástica: Love visiting here to study and this time I got to see the Frederick Douglass exhibit! Wonderful, scenic and calm location.
Experiencia fantástica: Great art museum in the former Old Patent Office Building, designed by architect Robert Mills. Wonderful paintings by the likes of Edward Hopper, Ralston Crawford, William H. Johnson, Stuart Davis, Thomas Hart Benton, and many others.
Experiencia fantástica: I really enjoyed this museum, it had such an awesome variety of art and representation. from traditional American art to modern. It had artists from the black, Latino and LGBTQ communities. It's really worth visiting multiple times or take a few hours to really appreciate each gallery on every floor. I love that it was free! I found the president portrait gallery way more fun and interesting than I thought I would. I would love to come back again.
Experiencia fantástica: We had a great experience on our visit yesterday. There is a lot of interesting art to see, mostly painting and a lot of portraits. We especially enjoyed the part with all the American president portraits. During our visit it was not crowded and we could just walk in. There is no entrance fee. If you visit, I'd recommend to bring a hoodie or jacket because the air-conditioning is freezing cold.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful place to look at the art and history of artists. In the middle they have this green courtyard where you can sit and relax. Take the Gallery PI - Chinatown Metro to get here
Experiencia fantástica: Art enrich tour soul. Visit this museum
Experiencia fantástica: Elegant, diamond-in-the-rough, off-Mall experience, American history through portraiture.
Experiencia positiva: Enjoy many paintings and photos of American history. Handicap accessible facility.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing here! Can’t finish it in a day! Very educational and impressive!
Experiencia fantástica: Lots of cool paintings. The Luce area was also interesting. I definitely would have liked the Irving R Wiles painting "Her Leisure Hour" to be displayed outside on a wall somewhere, rather than be in a glass closet.
Experiencia positiva: My favorite thing about this museum is that they made Trump's Presidential Portrait (which is trash when compared to all the other Presidential Portraits tbh, so dark and angry) look directly into the gallery containing the portraits of all the cival rights leaders and activists for lgbtq+ equality. Let him be forever confined to look into the faces of those he fought to oppress. I'm not a fan of paint as a medium, and especially not in portraits so generally this museum was a dud for me, there are a few sculptures that I liked though. If you are a portrait or painting fan you are in for a treat here.
Experiencia fantástica: Folk exhibit was amazing. fascinating collection with great diversity across US artists
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful! Excellent art and environment, a lot of information about each piece and wonderful learning experience.
Experiencia positiva: Honestly I expected alot more. There are only paintings in this building for as much as I saw. Some of the art is great, while others were just ok.
Experiencia positiva: Good collections of folk art and mid-century social realism. A recent acquisition by Hisako Hibi, which lacks vision and execution, shouldn’t be taking up space in this museum when there are so many excellent American artists of diverse backgrounds not yet represented. Hopefully such poor quality acquisitions won’t continue. Altogether worth a visit.
