Date of Visit: Sat July 1 We visited the town of St Mary’s on Canada Day, - a national holiday, so we assumed most things would be closed. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the St Mary’s Museum was actually open. It is possible not many people knew it was open – because we pretty much had the entire museum to ourselves. Local community heritage & historical museums are always a fun activity to do when you explore a town. We love visiting these small community museums, because there is always something fascinating to learn when you are there. This is definitely the case when you check out the St Mary’s Museum. There is a lot to learn here, and we came away with several fun facts about the town of St mary’s, her origins, her history, her connection to huge Canadian legends and icons of industry. Our visit to the museum of St Mary’s left us with a quest to discover the locations & buildings that we just learned about. This gave us a full day of activity on what we otherwise thought was just going to be a pass-through visit. Thus giving us a better appreciation for the town and what can be done in St Mary’s when you are a tourist visiting for the first time, or a local needing to be a tourist in their own back yard. Entrance to the museum is by donation – pay what you want. We tried to pay donation by debit, but they do not take debit for the donations, and as we did not have cash, they allowed us to visit for free. The staff were very kind and friendly, and I believe they stayed open longer than usual for us, because we were enjoying the museum so much, we spent a lot of time there. There is parking for a handful of cars. A park on the grounds is often used for festivals and events, and is also a lovely spot for a picnic.
