Experiencia fantástica: Great little gallery. Free admission. Got a nice intro from the gentleman at the front desk. Excellent exhibit from a local artist. I agree with another reviewer who said they need to up their profile … this is a City gallery so I’m guessing that’s why the operations aren’t at par.
Experiencia positiva: You need to improve your social media profile. I realize you may have resource shortages (staff and $$) but this is so important for audiences these days. There is currently a great show on the gallery and I'm trying to refresh my memory as to it's title, the artists and organization involved and there's nothing on the website or instagram. ( I don't do Facebook so I don't know about that venue). I was wanting to send info by DM on instagram and couldn't find anything. It's the African Canadian Pride exhibition that's about's about a celebration of a Goddess and involves men dressing up as women in elaborate masked costumes and dancing that I'm talking about. I would have given 5 stars if I wasn't so frustrated about getting info on your current exhibition - even a link to the artists involved would help!
Experiencia fantástica: Another hidden gem of downtown Toronto. This beautiful gallery is inclosed within the St. Lawrence Market and is easy to miss in this bustling place. But if you look up from the market's upper level, you'll see the distinctive building which is actually a remnant (council chamber) of the Toronto's first city hall - (which now houses the gallery). It is free to visit (along with the other 9 city of Toronto museum sites) and is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm. Currently (winter of 2023) there is an exhibit dedicated to the annual Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, which takes place every summer in front of the (new) City Hall, showcasing artwork purchased by former mayors of Toronto. 60 very interesting and thought provoking pieces are on display (different media, including photography, oil, watercolour, acrylic and mixed media). Staff is very welcoming, knowledgeable and happy to share the history of the building and facts about current exhibits. The gallery also contains some memorabilia, like the original mayor's chair. If you would like to see more pictures about the city and its history check out the photographs in the food court on the lower level of the St. Lawrence Market (under the gallery). I really recommend visiting this place - a nice break from the super busy market (and you get an awesome vista of it from the gallery windows). I wish the gallery was advertised more, as probably not that many of the market's visitors are aware that this little treasure is just steps away. and it's free!
Experiencia fantástica: Surprised that this doesn't have any reviews! A nice, small space which featured an exhibit on the Toronto Subway when I visited, though it changes. It's "pay what you can" (they suggest $2). The exhibit was interesting and very well curated. Also you get a nice view of the market from their windows.
Experiencia positiva: Nice collection of local pieces; very small room though and extremely hidden.
Experiencia positiva: Most people probably don't know these art gallery exist on the second floor. At the moment lots of the paintings feature a Toronto base theme, there is no entry fee though I see donations are accepted.
Experiencia positiva: Large crowds!
Experiencia positiva: Since moving to Toronto this gallery has become one of my favourites to stop into when I am i nthe area. Nice selection of local artists...good to support our locals!!!
Experiencia fantástica: I've seen to so many great shots that have been put on here over the years, historical Toronto photos, the CNE and just before COVID, the streetArToronto exhibit. I just can't find info on who the curator is for the space.
Experiencia positiva: Large crowds!
Experiencia fantástica: Loved it
Experiencia fantástica: Just went there for a StreetArt presentation. Loved the venue loved StreeArt
Thanks for visiting!
Experiencia fantástica: Love the StreetArtTO exhibit!!
Thanks for visiting!
Experiencia fantástica: My go to place !
That's nice to hear. Thanks for visiting.
Experiencia positiva: Quiet busy nice place.
Experiencia fantástica: Just went there for a StreetArt presentation. Loved the venue loved StreeArt
Experiencia fantástica: It's a nice little gallery. They have an exhibition until April 2020 about Street Art and the organization that is behind. And it is free for this particular exhibition. I didn't know where those murals come from. It has been a discovery to know that there is a huge work from the City of Toronto and many artist not only to decorate the city but also to mentor artists at all stages of their development.
Experiencia fantástica: I visited on a field trip and was so delighted! The man who was guiding us was funny, friendly, and sarcastic. We had a blast doing the various activities prepared and visiting the historic St. Lawrence Market.
Experiencia fantástica: This small but mighty gallery is on the second floor of the iconic St Lawrence Market, and is the former home of City Hall. The exhibit on now: "Toronto through the eyes of women artists". May is "Museum Month" in the city of Toronto, meaning that you can get into nine city of Toronto-run museums for free with your Toronto library card. Visit here and you will get a terrific view of the St Lawrence Market below.
Experiencia fantástica: Thank you
Experiencia positiva: Visited in April 2018 to see the Jazz Clubs Of Toronto exhibit. Space compact, content as good as it could be for the theme. Being literally above St Lawrence Market it was a great chance to stock up on fine foods.
Experiencia fantástica: Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to take a closer look.
Experiencia positiva: The exhibits can be hit and miss but it's a nice little hidden gem of the city. Located on the second floor of the St. Lawrence market. Definitely worth checking out if you're planning on visiting the market. A good place to learn about the history of the St. Lawrence Market building.
Experiencia positiva: Not the best display because it was so hidden in the entrance
Experiencia positiva: A beautiful, open space full of historic echoes. Display of TTC subway archive was well done.
Experiencia positiva: This is a great historical site. Lots of selections when it comes to food. It's also a great place to grab a quick lunch. It's a very busy place on Saturday but you're able to buy fresh produce and meats.
Experiencia fantástica: The Market Gallery upstairs in the St Lawrence Market always have terrific displays and City Staff are very knowledgeable. Interesting place to visit every few months.
