🗣️ Musée d'Art de San José: Des avis
Expérience positive: Small museum. Free for 17 and under, teachers, and college students.
Expérience positive: Meaningful art displays. Beautiful pieces.
Expérience négative: Did not really have great "art" in there. Spent 20 minutes in there. Paid 40$. Not even worth it for free to be honest.
Expérience fantastique: Beautiful museum with exceptional exhibits. We were all very moved by the "Seeing Through Stone" exhibit. We brought our 85 year old Gramma here because she loves art and we all had a wonderful time. They have both canes and wheelchairs to help those with limited mobility concerns. Our only complaint is the very limited handicapped parking (only one spot).
Expérience positive: Honestly not too much happening but the design is pretty cozy to relax
Expérience fantastique: gorgeousssss plus hot worker
Expérience fantastique: Great hosting of the CityDance San Jose event!!
Expérience négative: This museum, evan is not really a museum, is a place looking good outside, and very empty inside, I didn't see anything more than few poorly art works, it is a shame to take money from people to visit something like this
Expérience négative: As of July 5th, 2024, this place is a major disappointment. Hardly anything there can truly be called art. And most of the "art" feels like it's there for political reasons. Unless you're going for free, and have nothing better to do with your day, don't.
Expérience fantastique: The museum is awesome! Extraordinary pieces of art can be found here! Even if you don’t understand or don’t like modern art, you should visit this place for sure.
Expérience positive: It was fun looking around. I wish there were more sculptures and paintings. Still a good experience. The staff were very nice.
Expérience négative: Don't waste your time!
Expérience négative: $30 wasted. Borderline with being a scam.
Expérience positive: VERY small. But fun
Expérience fantastique: It is a must see placd n San jose.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent Museum and really appreciate, and nice people to communicate with.
Expérience fantastique: One of the best museums of it's primary subject of interest in the past 100 years. The dedication to the topic despite resistance is impressive.
Expérience fantastique: It won't take much of your time! A small museum, interesting exhibits and a friendly little shop in the corner of the gallery! Come, it will be interesting! And adding a small, working cafe to the exhibition would be just right :)
Expérience fantastique: Great museum in a very old building near center of downtown area. Other nearby art places as well as many restaurants. Free parking available 4-6 blocks away.
Expérience fantastique: Very interesting museum it's free for kids adults only pay 15 dollars
Expérience négative: Don't waste your time. Any random garbage bin has probably more 'art' than this so-called museum. Apparently empty rooms and a few mounted TV's are enough to call it a museum. Waste of space and money.
Expérience négative: Really boring and small museum. If you get the ticket for free from your local library then I guess it doesn't hurt to spend like 20min in here. But if you need to pay for your ticket I suggest you to spend your bucks for something more meaningful. Btw, this one star is for the friendly staff in the museum.
Expérience fantastique: This is a great museum right in the heart of downtown San Jose. It's not huge. There were installations using various forms of media. A nice museum to pop in while you're in the downtown area. Unfortunately when I visited one of the three exhibition rooms was being set up for the next installation. If you are paying full price for entry, I would maybe check in advance to see how much you will be able to see.
Expérience fantastique: Love the museum.....make sure to check if there are exhibits that are closed.....half the museum was closed this visit but they were giving free tickets to come back when everything was reopened in mid June ....you can also get free tickets through the SJPL website if you're a cardholder.
Expérience positive: Small and nothing to see, boring for students…
Expérience négative: I was too shy to ask for a refund of my $15 but this was one of the most embarrassingly spare museums I’ve ever visited & I was seriously tempted. Literally 3 small pieces on a 100ft white wall. No focus to the collection and curatorial signage written like a freshman’s rushed project. Took less than 30 minutes to see the whole museum.
Expérience négative: Visited in March 2024.was looking forward to sharing great art with my wife.instead art here has become social complaining and taken over by socialism.Sadly they don't seem to teach drawing, painting ,and sculpting in our art schools any more, none found here.
Expérience fantastique: This museum is in the heart of downtown San Jose! We had an enriching experience filled with captivating exhibitions and thought-provoking art pieces. The variety of artworks on display showcases diverse perspectives and talents, making each visit a unique journey. Whether you're a local or just passing through, the San Jose Museum of Art is definitely worth a visit for anyone with an appreciation for creativity and culture.
Expérience fantastique: Not a popular choice among museums in the bay area, but we found it very nice. Great place for a weekend afternoon if you want a quiet place.
Expérience négative: Very nice, small, quaint museum — but if you dare bring your toddlers beware: they are hunting you down and not letting you give them a snack on the hallway or a sip of water outside the galleries. They either don’t want kids or just don’t understand their needs. Sad!
Expérience négative: Total waste of taxpayers dollars. It’s more like a storage of ugly trash that no one would call “art” made by unknown self proclaimed “artists”.
Expérience négative: Not worth going there, not with kids too. Just do not waste your time. If you think you are out of the plan, then just use light train(2.5$) and go there.. but you end up paying 15$ for nothing. Just to see nuts and bolts.
Expérience positive: Lovely museum. Just big enough to see in less than two hours. Well chosen exhibits. Makes one think....
Expérience fantastique: Brought the whole family here for the first time at First Fridays to see Thien An Nguyen perform! It was spectacular, my kids were blown away, and then we walked through the galleries and admired the art and encouraged imagining big!
Expérience positive: For major museums this is quite small. Also I enjoyed the first exhibit that we walked into which had a lot of bright and vibrant art but after that I found much of it pretty forgettable. Also fairly challenging to park there as it's downtown San Jose and there are a variety of parking places however some of them are kind of pricey. Ended up parking on a meter and stayed for less than 3 hours. Shout out to the staff as my wife left a phone there and was able to retrieve it from the nice people there. Overall an enjoyable experience.
Expérience négative: Complete waste of time and money. This is full of trash “art”. I saw two beautiful pieces out of the dozens. Go to the Crocker Museum instead. I’m here now enjoying all the incredible pieces!
Expérience positive: First time trying ice skating. #Adam Levine ⛸️
Expérience fantastique: My girlfriend and I had a really good time! It’s a bit of a small museum, but what is displayed is very good. We love the shopping exhibit and the candy store exhibit. I realize in the future people are going to read this and wonder what the hell I’m talking about but for now in January 2024 it’s a cool exhibit. Lots of cool stuff.
Expérience fantastique: I really enjoyed my visit. My wife and I walked around the museum. The low point was downstairs, thought the learning center could use more to get it more engagement. The high points were everything else. For a Friday afternoon, it was poppin'. The gift store was nice and reasonably priced. Upstairs had nice pieces that hit close to home.
Expérience positive: Great art museum, check the website before visiting because galleries rotate and change!
Expérience positive: The Yolanda Lopez exhibit was interesting. Relatively small museum.
Expérience positive: 5 years later update - Still small but had all different exhibits then last time. They have a very good variety of pieces. They have a bathroom in basement, a fun gift shop, and a cafe that has the basics plus some fun snacks. They had a partnership with Bank of America so having an account allowed us to get in for free so that was cool. They also have a good parking lot behind the building. Small but has a good variety.
Expérience fantastique: Small, but very nice and cozy museum. Would recommend to visit.
Expérience fantastique: Fabulous local museum! Not pretentious and no permanent collections! Highlight local artists!!!! Free to educators.
Expérience négative: This place is completely useless. Every time I go there it's closed. How is anyone supposed to look at art when the museum is closed for a " special event ". You guys suck. I won't be back. At least the Triton is open.
Expérience positive: Excellent collection, though not really my favourite period of recent art.
Expérience fantastique: For what I was expecting, I was blown away, I have been to world class museums all over the world. I didn't expect much coming to here, but it was a fantastic collection for being a small museum. Definitely returning as new exhibits come in!
Expérience négative: Art is fine, come for the art. It's a small gallery but it's fine. Cafe is terrible. Asked for an espresso, it tasted indistinguishable from a shot of drip coffee.
Expérience positive: Nice museum, I enjoyed it all. Just wasn’t a fan of the gift shop, there was no products that had anything to do with the exhibits, they just had products that were related to well known artists.
Expérience positive: It's Interesting but small. Some exhibits were closed so we were outta there in less than half hour. There are photo restrictions. Parking is tricky because it is in downtown SanJose. A plus is that students enter free.
Expérience fantastique: Enjoyed what was available when I visited. Part of the museum was closed for a new exhibition, but they allow you to come back for free within a year. Will go back next time I'm in town.
Expérience fantastique: Great art collection - as diverse as San Jose. Nice lightning, not crowded, gives space for a relaxing experience while appreciating the art pieces.
Expérience fantastique: Great museum. Rotating artworks. Nice shop inside. Should be done in 2 hours at max, good for all ages of humans.
Expérience positive: good one . Space prototype settings were too good
Expérience fantastique: I experience a wonderful exhibit and music on a Friday night looking out wonderful pieces of Art upstairs and down the staff was well educated in the form on the pieces that were on display also great photography work by well known artists hiding you recommend to go on a Friday night or anytime during the weekday nights
Expérience positive: Great experience. Very limited though on the art on display. Why not 5 stars? For a city with nearly 1 million people, it deserves a larger art museum.
Expérience positive: This is a great local museum to enjoy in downtown San Jose. I recommend becoming a member to support this museum. There's always something interesting to see and the gift shop is a great place to shop for your friends and loved ones.
Expérience fantastique: What a great experience. Culturally booming with Latin, Asian, and African artists spilled all across the walls. What a wonderful place to learn and find peace.
Expérience fantastique: Nice art museum, free for students by showing an ID.
Expérience positive: We came for an after-hours special exhibition opening. Honestly it was not too much to my liking. Heavy emphasis on local artists which is great but the art itself (at the time a collection of collages, landscape photography, glass sculpture - the special exhibit, and video installation) wasn't too exceptional, though the wall-mounted descriptions tried its best to convince you otherwise. Kind of hoped a moneyed location in the heart of Silicon Valley would patronize a stronger collection than this but I guess it does speak to the priorities of the wealthy. Gift shop was surprisingly more interesting.
Expérience fantastique: A tranquil and peaceful experience with beautiful art inspired by nature!
Expérience fantastique: Great exhibit of Yolanda Lopez art. There until October so don't miss it!
Expérience négative: More of an art expo than a traditional museum, pretty small and empty. Only recommend if you’re a student and get in for free.
Expérience positive: Very nice environment and cool gift shop.
Expérience positive: I recently visited the San Jose Museum of Arts and was pleasantly surprised. While the exhibits could have been more modern and captivating, the museum had a diverse collection that showcased the talent of local artists. The staff were knowledgeable and provided valuable insights into the pieces on display. The facilities were well-maintained, making for a comfortable visit. Additionally, the admission price was reasonable and the museum was conveniently located. Overall, I would recommend the San Jose Museum of Arts for those looking for a relaxed and educational cultural experience.
Expérience fantastique: Small museum but the installations are cool
Expérience fantastique: A great museum, it was quiet and clean. Admission is free for students and $10 for people who aren't students.
Expérience positive: It Is a Okey place.. quite a big building, but there is very less to see inside.. not so attractive and wao things.. half of the museum was close due to establishing new artwork in there. There are much better museums out there free as well as paid.
Expérience fantastique: Great art museum, but I don't have an artistic vision.
Expérience fantastique: You can't beat the student/teacher discount! Had a great time here.
Expérience fantastique: Every first of the month admission is free. Three floors of exhibits, parking is hard to find in downtown San Jose. But there is parking garage
Expérience positive: If your into art this is definitely a nice place! Very well maintained and close by to downtown San Jose!
Expérience fantastique: Incredible space with knowledgeable, courteous staff that makes this an experience. Daniel was very gracious to my group and I look forward to our next visit!
Expérience fantastique: Great spot in downtown San Jose to take in art. Some of the art installations are thought provoking. Some art look deceptively simple, but the amount of work that went into making it so simple seems so effortless.
Expérience positive: Small but interesting collection of contemporary art here. Museum locates at downtown CBD. It has a spacious cafeteria inside with reasonable price.
Expérience positive: On the small side for a city museum but a pleasant space and helpful staff. Nice exhibits with no barriers so being up close and interacting was easy.
Expérience positive: Nice museum, I like most of the expositions, you can take around 40 minutes to 1 hour to see it completly.
Expérience fantastique: I don’t know ANYTHING about ART!! I really don’t.. But I do love looking at interesting pictures. Also, I don’t know why I love checking out museums on rainy days. Perhaps bc it’s so relaxing to glaze at art that I don’t know about, while figuring out what the artist was thinking while making that particular piece of art?? Follow me on IG: @Ssindyeats for tons of foodies bites and travels.
Expérience positive: Nice museum of arts, very small, right in the middle of the frequency San Jose down town Since it's a Chinese new year, there were theater performances And it was free today
Expérience positive: This is a small museum in San jose downtown that focuses on modern art. The museum itself has very few exhibits spread over two floors and can be seen within an hour. Would recommend a visit only if you're in the area and have lot of time on your hands. Food and drink are not allowed. Photography is allowed without flash. They have a cloakroom to store extra baggage. Entry is free for students/teachers, otherwise it's $10.
Expérience positive: We had a great time here. It was Chinese New Year's weekend and was too much crowded. Also, there was a dragon dance show, which had a huge line. There is a small cafe inside. Prices are reasonable for all food items (not a lot of options available). It's a good place to bring young children and can spend approximately 2-3 hours here. Weekend entry is free to this museum. Lots of art collections here, attached pics. I will recommend visiting if you are nearby.
Expérience positive: Modern abstract art museum. don’t know ANYTHING about ART!! I really don’t.. But I do love looking at interesting pictures. On the small side for a city museum but a pleasant space and helpful staff. Nice exhibits with no barriers so being up close and interacting was easy. Great spot in downtown San Jose to take in art. Some of the art installations are thought provoking. Some art look deceptively simple, but the amount of work that went into making it so simple seems so effortless.
Expérience négative: Well to be fair when we went there 3 exhibitions were close and i have no idea how big or small they were! I will update this if we end up going again and i see an actual difference! If you do the math u probably have more art at home than what was at display here, hell go to TJMax instead! The building itself is very beautiful so are the views of surrounding buildings from it! I give it 2 starts just for those views and that of the admissions people’s super nice and welcoming attitude! Otherwise man we were disappointed! The place was super clean and well maintained and there were not that many people there too on a Sunday! I’d only recommend going there during like a special exhibition u know about! Cleanness: very clean People: nice admissions guy, security folks not so much Cost: 10$ adults, students get in free. With id Value: well.. we were not happy! Parking: plenty parking lots around the area I’d imagine a little tricky in weekdays!
Expérience fantastique: Go to there now! Amazing staff and amazing collection
Expérience fantastique: Worth a visit a few times a year
Expérience positive: Good mix of contemporary artists and media. Fun video installations at present: one set in a TRON-style room and another two lifesize brides reflecting on life.
Expérience négative: Im vaccinated... But you must have booster shoot... Vaccination record.. Mask and fully slather yourself in alcohol before you can go in. I am not boosted yet.... Nobody was in the museum....i mean only the 2 18 year old kids at the front denying everyone were there.... Very frustrating to have traveled an hour to get denied fornot being vaccinated enough

Expérience positive: Modern art, mmmm, what was that. Some of the pieces require you have a BFA to enjoy, but overall it is an art museum in San Jose. You could do better in San Francisco, but who wants to drive to Urinetown and get mugged by the homeless. So in that context, it was a nice time for the hour or two we spent there. There is a coffee shop and you can sit by the windows of this old house that part of the museum is built on. Go see it and enjoy yourself an enjoy some coffee after. The outside may be crawling with homeless and their pit bull dogs, so hold your kids close to you.
Expérience positive: Good for artistic taste. Kids won't enjoy it much. Not so interesting for the kids. First Friday of the month is free admission after 6pm.
Expérience négative: Went in expecting interesting modern art, ended up staring at cut outs of stolen art! Extremely uninteresting! Spent almost 50 dollars for an awful boring experience that lasted less than 30 minutes! Man at the cafe was very nice and professional!
Expérience positive: Nice to see it again after so many years. Collection is small but nice, gift shop has average art book collection, more gimmicks
Expérience positive: Took my 15yr old son and his girlfriend. They loved it. It is small, but free for them and only $10 for me. It broadened their ideas of art, what they think of it and if it's something they could do. Highly recommend-- if only because it shows how art can make you feel something.
Expérience positive: Admission is free on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month if you have a BOA card(credit or debit). Please present your card on site. Please note that the underground parking lot in the same building is publich but it is $12 per hour. I'm a little disappointed that there are very few works on display.
Expérience positive: Just revisited this museum free by using BFA card. Nice, clean & modern art.
Expérience positive: Very well lit and spacious but not all the type of modern art that I'm really interested in but for $10 can't complain much. Lots of renovation and exhibit closures. Highly recommend the Tech Interactive Museum
Expérience fantastique: Excellent collection with strong representation of BIPOC women & LGBTQ artists. Easy validated parking at Market and San Pedro Square garage.
Expérience négative: Not much to see here. The nearby Museum of Quilts and Textiles, and the Institute of Contemporary Art are far more interesting on the day of my visit: July 22, 2022.
Expérience positive: I want to give this place more stars because I really support art, especially in my city. But our experience was just okay. The museum is very small, but very beautiful on the inside. The architecture is lovely and the flow is nice. Unfortunately, when we went, several of the display rooms were closed for new installations. Which made it even smaller. :( Upstairs, there was a really bizarre exhibit of modern art. It was cool to see something different, and it was very well presented, but it was a bit dark and twisted for my liking. I would love to come back when there's an artist that I like displaying their work.
Expérience fantastique: We were walking in the downtown and suddenly found that each first Friday of the month Museum of Art offers a free admission! It's a great opportunity to see the new exhibition! There was even a small jazz concert from the college students. Very nice evening)
