ℹ️ Informations

Pay your own price! We paid full price but it was worth it. $20 Great for a hot summer day or cold winter day. Food trucks are great outside. Restaurants inside are pricey but not too bad. Gets more crowded as day goes on so it is better earlier.

Expérience fantastique: Cool museum! I really liked the GIANT special exhibition because the art pieces were literally giant.

Cashelle Rose 3 months ago

Expérience fantastique: You've got to see the Giants exhibit! I've been reading about it for months and finally got to go. It's so amazing, some of the best art I've seen in NYC! The way it's laid out from inspiration from masters like Ernie Barnes to social critique is thought provoking. The mix of sculpture, photography, and painting is rich. I can't remember ever having music played in an exhibit and it totally changes the vibe from stuffy high-minded museum art to relatable and relaxing. It's also cool to think about how to build your own art collection based on how the Deans collect what matters to them. Truly inspiring!

Expérience fantastique: My first time here and it won’t be my last. I had an amazing time at the Museum, friendly staff, tons of food options and carts outside and it is such a vibe. Great for a date or walk around and create getting tons of inspiration. The Brooklyn Museum is giving, vibes and openness. It’s beautiful inside 5 floors, please do explore inside, take the elevator, tons of space, amazing bathrooms as well, personal stalls for men with a door. I was impressed. The reception was so helpful, I bought my ticket online, easy scan on or show for entry. Please note! book bags are a no no… you might be able to do a small bag, there is a cost check and bag check area. Bags are free, well the first bag, and coats are $1. Not very bad, especially if you go during a New York Winter, oh my gosh, you definitely don’t want to be bundled up walking around this amazing beautiful place being hot and uncomfortable. As soon as you walk in, BAM art in your face, get all your selfies in and please do read the art details listed and the walk and leave following at list one artist or organization. I went to the GIANTS exhibit by Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, The Deans… it was very rich in color and the stories it told was beyond great. That was just the first floor, explore the 2nd and 3rd, and be sure yes, you want to go to the 5th floor. Will attend again, and support, I will do my best to go at least once every 3 months or 6 months, super worth it. It can easily take up 3-6 hours, so money well spent trust and the outside is such a vibe knowing that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is literally one block behind the Museum. Have fun.

Expérience fantastique: I love visiting the Brooklyn Museum! It's a beautiful museum with an incredible collection of art from all around the world. One of my favorite things about the museum is the range of art on display - you can see everything from ancient Egyptian mummies to contemporary art installations. • The museum has a lot of interactive exhibits too, which makes it a great place to visit with kids. My personal favorite is the Egyptian galleries - you can see real mummies and even try your hand at writing hieroglyphics! • Overall, the Brooklyn Museum is a great place to spend a day exploring art and culture. Whether you're a history buff or an art lover, there's something for everyone at this amazing museum.

Expérience positive: Brooklyn library seems to truely work for the community. It is next to Brooklyn Botanical Garden and just few steps from Prospect Park. I attended the Children Book fair, where they had authors presenting their books. I did not buy general admission to see Museum exhibit due to lack of time. Instead I spent some time walking around the Market/Pop-ups set up in the front of the building.

I went to see the Spike Lee exhibit which was a very impressive collection of memorabilia from sports, film, music, photography and of course his personal catalog of work. The museum was in no way stuffy or austere. Modern and spacious. Even has a space to purchase and eat food. I'll visit again.

They had dis in the 1st & 3rd floor. 3rd fl had salsa & Latin music, 1st fl had jazz. You can buy drinks such as wine, beer & LI ice teas. They have a cafe with food and drinks. It’s a very big museum with a lot of exhibits. Going on right now there is a spike Lee exhibition & much more! On an event day like today we did not pay entrance. If you take the train it leaves you in front of the museum.

Expérience fantastique: A large and beautiful museum with an incredible selection of unique works ranging from Egyptian antiquities to European, African and Asian art pieces. This museum is massive and has 5 floors of incredible art. I enjoyed exploring each floor and moving through the different demonstrations, which were beautifully laid out and maintained. 'The Dinner Party' was stunning in-person and was a highlight of my visit. I also very much recommend checking out the Visible Storage area, as there are many outstanding prices that are stored within. Another highlight was the massive KAWS 'Companion' wooden statue near the museum entrance. Overall, a wonderful and broad selection of prices within a beautifully designed museum. I cannot recommend visiting this museum enough.

Erik Johnson 1 year ago

Expérience positive: Founded in 1895, it was intended to be the world’s largest museum when Brooklyn itself was its own independent city. In physical size, the museum is now the third largest in NYC with about 1.5 million works. The layout can feel choppy after late 20th century renovations to revitalize the original McKim, Mead and White Beaux-Arts design. It can be difficult to navigate and there is a sense they may have run out of funding. There is world class art inside - from antiquity to the currant day. The Egyptian collections are particularly impressive. Don’t miss Judy Chicago’s 1979 epic feminist sculpture, “The Dinner Party”. Also on display is the famous Gilbert Stuart, “Portrait of George Washington” from 1796. The Brooklyn Museum’s curators make a notable effort - both in the permanent collections and special exhibitions - to make the museum relevant to all Brooklynites and Americans alike. Yet, a lot of energy goes into popular, special exhibitions drawing from contemporary film, fashion and music versus more scholarly art topics that could draw and maintain an international reputation. Excellent gift shop.

Expérience positive: I visited the exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime, and it was one of the most astonishing exhibits I’ve seen. The pieces were immaculate, the layout was fabulous, and the text and information was incredible. An amazing celebration of life for Mugler. The process to enter was easy, although there is an additional cost for that particular exhibit. I wish there were more benches, but other than that, kudos to the team behind this exhibition!

Expérience fantastique: In: Brooklyn and is: museum Theres a statement in the ancient Ejypt section that says the museum is abiding by a law that states they can keep any ancient artifacts acquired before 1970. That’s humorous and convenient. We’re following the law, we did nothing wrong

Ian O'Neill 1 year ago

Expérience positive: Absolutely love the Assyrian and Egyptian wings. I found the excessive woke-washing tiresome and emblematic of the groupthink currently taking over many museums. I was really hoping to see William Blake’s artwork but it is not on display.

Expérience fantastique: It's a great museum in a beautiful building. There's an interesting mix of art. I enjoyed everything on the fifth floor - there is great European and American art. You can also go into their storage room, where the stuff that didn't make it is stored behind glass. I thought that was a really neat way to see the art - stuffed together rather than carefully spread out. The fourth floor had some sections that were a bit more... challenging... But the design section was pretty good.

Expérience fantastique: I went to Brooklyn Museum over the weekend. I heard about its Egyptian collection before, which is one of the attractions at this place. Expérience fantastique: We went to see Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party (which was stunning) and then toured the general collection of a thoughtful mix of historic and current art. A lot of great work and it looks like the curation has been working to include more than the typical old American & Europeans that have dominated museums. Fun choices at the gift shop and The Norm restaurant had some tasty and not too pricey choices.

M Li 1 year ago

Expérience positive: Large museum with interesting items, but the museum layout and curation was lackluster. The stairs were located in the back when you expect them to be more prominent. Sections are strung together without much information to convey the context and significance. Descriptions very focused on the item, but don’t tell a cohesive narrative.

L Y 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: Overall, it was an amazing experience, especially since admission was "pay as you wish" (except for special exhibitions). The museum's extensive collection spans many different eras and cultures, from ancient Egypt to contemporary art. The building itself is beautiful and spacious, with plenty of room to explore and take in the exhibits. The exhibits feature current events, artifacts, and incredible works of art from all over the world. Visitors can expect a lot of walking, but it's worth it to see the art everywhere, from the entrance to even in the parking lot. It was an absolutely fantastic and informative experience. I highly recommend visiting the Brooklyn Museum. It's a true gem in the heart of Brooklyn and a wonderful way to spend a day exploring art and culture.

Expérience fantastique: On a self-guided tour of the museum, I found Brooklyn very refreshing. The museum has easy navigation with displays from Persia, Egypt and ´Period’ rooms. I found the period rooms my most loved pieces, capturing room and decors front many historical periods. Just beautiful that you can step into the past with those rooms. Expérience fantastique: This museum is a well-hidden gem in Brooklyn, far fewer visitor than at the Met and its Egyptian and Assyrian collections are as practically as good as the Met or the Louvre. The story of how 23-year-old Austen Layard discovered all the Assyrian slabs in 1840 while rafting down the Tigris river is beyond belief. The 25-foot-long Book of the Dead papyrus is also quite mesmerizing.

Nell C 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: the Brooklyn Museum offers world class art exhibits without the crowds of Manhattan venues. I recently viewed the Duke Riley installation: DEATH TO THE LIVING, Long Live Trash. It was both an amusing and disturbing take on plastics and other pollutants in our water ways. I especially loved the triptych about the Gowanus Canal and the drawings of the Newtown Creek which were humerus and full of detail which could take an hour to fully explore. aside from the drawings and films, most of the art is made with objects found on the beach. You will never think of a coffee stirrer, a Playtex tampon or a bic lighter in the same way. When you are tired of standing, rest on a bench while watching a beautiful meditative film of a woman in the snow gently cleaning up her beach. After the show, take a trip to the 3rd street Whole Foods and ponder the Gowanus.
