Expérience positive: The urban manor of the Méndez Montouto family was built on Rúa da Obra –today Lepanto– in the 16th century, although its current façade is from the 17th century. Don Francisco Méndez, Alderman of Ourense, rebuilt at his own expense the Remedios Chapel, next to the Ponte Vella, in 1521, being reformed again by his son, Alfonso Méndez Montouto, in 1584. It bears the same coats of arms as in his home in the city, adding to it a third, belonging to the Vilamarín family, by Don Alfonso's wife, Doña María Enríquez de Vilamarín, whom he married in 1608. Thus, this façade would be made from this date. Since 1987 it has been the seat of the Municipal Museum of Ourense. Also noteworthy are the houses among which are probably the oldest in the city, from the 16th century. The one on the left highlights its façade with large voussoirs and its two coats of arms, while the one on the right – today in ruins – boasts a chain of stone that runs along the façade between the ground and first floors.
Expérience fantastique: It is the art museum of the city, with three floors where an Ourensano or any artist can exhibit his work, it is in the heart of the old town, near the cathedral, next door, it is perfectly equipped for events, it is cozy with a typical ancient touch Ourensano, currently there is the exhibition Political Zoon, which is seen in the photos, it is a place of reference, on the way to the museum you can enjoy the wonderful historic center of the city, where great writers forged the history of our city, travels the steps of Eduardo Blanco Amor for example, soak up art, the history of the city ...
