Expérience positive: Drove for 2.5 hours on a Saturday only to be told it’s closed for a wedding. No mention of this online or on any of their sites. I’m sure it’s a beautiful museum but we won’t be able to return.

Expérience fantastique: Wow. Unbelievable talent. I went to the Albin Polesek museum as an afterthought; I came to Winter Park to see the Tiffany chapel at the Morse museum, and while that was quite impressive, the Polasek scultures were more inspired and inspiring. The sculptures the grounds, the house were all lovely. There was one issue, and for me it was a huge one: the house itself was filled with air "fresheners" that kept spraying synthetic perfume, which sets off my asthma. I wish they would do away with them, as many people are sensitive to such strong fragrance. I had an attack that lasted all night.

Expérience fantastique: An Amazing Museum and Sculpture Gardens always bringing awesome exhibitions and excitement to the viewer, a must visit Museum in Orlando, a hidden treasure in Winter Park!!

Expérience fantastique: didn’t do the guided tour, so wasn’t able to gain much information. just a note if you’re doing self guided. they close at four and we arrived at 2:56, the last tour had already commenced but they seemed like they had just started. most of the statues are very christian, and it would be a very peaceful and spiritual place if that’s what you believed in. for those that aren’t christian, i probably wouldn’t bother with going as there will only be a select other few things you’d be interested in.

Expérience fantastique: I've never been to Chicago but I've always wanted to visit. Now I have to add time to see Albin Polasek's statues in Chicago. So far, my favorites are Man Carving His Own Destiny & Man vs Beast. Hopefully I will be able to add more once I visit "sweet home" Chicago....

Expérience fantastique: I had no prior knowledge of Albin Polasek upon visiting the sculpture gardens. I was looking at attractions in Winter Park and thought it would be something different to try. Thanks to our informative tour guide Marty and his wife Sue I learned so much more than I thought I would! The guided tour through his home and chapel gave intimate insight into the artists’ life and work. The gardens themselves are tended with so much care and there’s a beautiful view of the lake. Even on a rainy day, it’s so beautiful and worth the time

Expérience positive: Unfortunately, when we arrived at Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens it was not open. We enjoyed seeing a few sculptures while there. We hope to return someday. Parking is limited and there was an event next door, so we moved on to other places on our list in the area.

Expérience fantastique: This was an interesting museum, definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area. The tour is recommended as they explain all the history regarding Albin Polasek. Overall though, a great trip for the family!

Expérience positive: If you are familiar with the work of Polesek, this is great little hidden nugget in the local area! The guided tour of his house and workshop gave a lot of info about his work and personal life. The grounds have quite a few statues outside, so be prepared for the weather. The additional building has works from a secondary artist that changes regularly, so this is a great added treat.

Peggy Gower 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: Very peaceful and low key museum/garden. I would suggest timing your visit with the guided tour to get the most out of the experience. Simply walking through without knowing the background/history of the artist would not be as enjoyable. Our docent, Connie, really brought it to life and provided so much information. Great place to spend an hour or two on a beautiful day.

Expérience positive: The grounds are pretty, and we had a nice time exploring. We didn't take the tour, since they weren't ready to give one yet when we arrived. It would have been interesting, but we were trying to fit in visits to several places in the time that we had that day. We didn't have to pay an admission fee because we belong to another garden that is on the reciprocal list.

Expérience fantastique: It’s a must see jewel in Orlando! Beautiful garden with great lake view, and sculptures. Once ‘man cave’ and studio of Albin Polasek. Our docent Ann was very informative about Czech-American sculptor and educator Albin Polasek’s life story and his art work. The museum has exhibit —All that Glitters: The Society of Gilders until April 16,2023.

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely beautiful, with sculptures around every corner of the garden. I would recommend going when the weather is a bit cooler but even at a feels like of 111, the gardens and the bamboo path were serene and lovely! I definitely recommend the guided tour so you can see inside his house and more of his works. The video on the tour was also very helpful to understand his life and works.

Expérience positive: Visited here on the Free Museum Day but heavy rain pour for more than one hour (not common in Orlando). So I was soaking wet. It is a small museum with meticulously maintained small garden. The sculptures quantity is limited, maybe about 30 and it also has a small art room with exhibitions and sales. Would want to visit again in a better weather day!

We brought our families and it was an amazing experience! You can feel the foundation of the museum and garden was built on love.

Our docent, Nicolas, was amazing and so informative... do not miss the house tour part of the day! We were lucky to go when it was a free museum day... but even without, it would be worth it! Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the gardens and lake!

Expérience fantastique: A must see yet easy to miss place in Winter Park. A 10 minute gentle walk (if you are European, as Americans don't walk in the heat) from the main street, it is a very interesting small museum and lush art garden, with the works of Czech American artist Albin Polasek, a talented sculptor and painter. Little known outside the US, his works are very interesting. Many, the largest ones, are still visible in Chicago. Many other, smaller ones, are spread in the lush gardens of his villa. The themes of his work often revolve around Christian figures and European mythology, and sometimes a mix of the two, for instance with his admirable Sower. His fantastic masterpiece, which epitomizes his (very American) worldview, is visible in the front garden: "man carving his own Destiny". This piece is all the more admirable since it was carved after he got paralized on one side after a stroke. Our guide Marty was really great, with a in depth knowledge of Polasek, his life and work. Don’t miss it!

Expérience positive: It was a lot smaller than I expected, could probably walk through entire inside and outside in 20min. CALL AHEAD before coming (we had to hurry up and get out cause they were closing for an hour to host a wedding) We made a 45min trip to see it, and definitely could have made better use of the day, BUT what we did see was exceptionally beautiful---just not a lot to see. Go, don't go, you're not really missing much. Meh

Julia S 2 years ago

Expérience positive: Pleasant place, though we were somewhat disappointed in the number of statues overall and with how many were of a very religious nature. The museum housed a couple of very small galleries with local artists' work. Interesting, but not our taste. We would not put this on our list to ever do again, but we can imagine it would be a lovely venue for an event.

Expérience positive: I had been meaning to come to the museum to check it out and learn more about the art that is held here. I did not know that Albin had a stroke and had his full left side paralyzed. He turned to art to create beautiful things to be useful and enjoy his new hobby. Pretty interesting. As for the museum, it is pretty small and the house on site is not open. The rotate the exhibitions and those are shown inside the house. I was greeted by a very nice, friendly and attentive gentleman and he gave me good information. After you see the inside of the museum, you go to the gardens which lead to one of the biggest lakes in Winter Park. As you stroll through the gardens, you will see many of the sculptures that the museum holds. It is a peaceful walk and it is nice how it blends garden, sculptures and lake. It was a nice little museum to visit and do something different.
