Esperienza fantastica: I highly recommend if you’re trying to decide between Port Discovery & this place. Lots to do and many hands-on experiences for children of all ages in a huge 3 floor space overlooking the harbor. Planned to stay for 2 hours and had to extend my parking time because they didn’t wanna leave. Kids are 9 & 6 for reference.

Esperienza fantastica: Great place for a family to go for sciency entertainment for the kids. I've also gone on dates here, believe it or not. Loads of interesting exhibits so you're sure to learn something new every time. Highly recommend as an annual visit, or a place to take visiting friends and family!

Sarah SN 2 months ago

Esperienza positiva: Great place with lots to do for the whole family! The only thing I'll say is they need to add more and change things up. Otherwise, it's only really worth going every few years as something to do. The Planetarium shows, exhibits and science experiments stay the same outside of the occasional special event which are way too crowded usually to enjoy. We've gone a few times with our toddler who won't remember the activities but any older kids or adults probably wouldn't enjoy it after the 2nd visit or so.

Esperienza fantastica: Spend several hours and could spend more without a doubt. It is an amazing place and the kids loved it. A bit too bad they call it a cafe, they don’t sell any food.

Anastasia Taylor 2 months ago

Esperienza positiva: This science center was a bit disappointing. Many exhibits were in disrepair and the space exhibits were a bit outdated and underwhelming. I visit a lot of science centers, one of my favorites is the one in Philadelphia. This is such a great location, I would love to see this science center improved.

Esperienza fantastica: We actually enjoyed this more than the aquarium. Plenty to do and wasn’t too busy. You definitely have to deal with the bus loads of kids coming and acting a fool from time to time.

Esperienza fantastica: Fantastic place for the whole family. There's something, and I'd say more than just something, for the whole family. Unlike many such places, this isn't the one that you do it all in one day. There's a lot of stuff to do. Highly recommended for a visit, they validate nearby garages for low rates and is right on the water/inner harbor, and a very easy drive in. Unfortunately their cafe is closed, probably for good, but outside food and drinks are welcome. Very handicap and stroller friendly. Staff is great too, very helpful.

Esperienza fantastica: Teachers are free. Bring an ID or pay stub. This museum GREAT if you have a child under 14. It is good for a child under 16. Almost the entire museum is hands-on and interactive. It is not a traditional museum for adults who want to walk through and enjoy the different exhibits.

Esperienza negativa: Lockheed Martin library What a disgrace. Last time I’ll attend this center considering you take money from weapons manufacturers that exacerbate the murder of children. Shame on you.

Esperienza fantastica: Visited Baltimore and Had to take my 11yr old grandson out kicking and screaming.. we stayed the whole day. We didn't get to do everything so he was disappointed. We had a blast with all the hands on learning. They have changes in IMax movies, science lab, crafts at the barn..etc.

Esperienza positiva: Definitely a great place to visit with my kids again in the future. So much to look at and experience with the kids on their field trip, but def disappointed in the lunch break. With various schools and other patrons, some of the kids had to sit on the floor to eat their lunch. Even with rushing kids to eat and get up, the space was not sufficient for that many groups. It would've been better if their was a rotation set for each group, 15-20 minutes each, to eat and continue the discovery. This way there would not be kids confused and overwhelmed as well with trying to find a seat. Other than that, the kids loved it and enjoyed it all.

Esperienza fantastica: Great place to learn more about science. Huge draw for kids but great for adults that love science too.

Esperienza negativa: We had the worst experience ever at the museum/science center, especially considering it's meant for children. Today, on 01/07/2024, we visited the Maryland Science Center for their Baltimore downtown day. There is an activity on the third floor where kids can push a swinging board with a pen drawing on it. After two girls in line drew with the pink pen, it was my boy's turn. He asked the staff if he could use a blue pen, which is his favorite color. The staff responded with a very rude voice, saying, 'No, you CANNOT.' We were all shocked, thinking it might be a joke at first. Unfortunately, he meant it, and the little boy couldn't use the color he wanted because the staff wasn't willing to change the pen on the drawing play board. My boy was frightened by the unfriendly voice and wanted to leave. He refused to go back to the third floor because of it. Visiting the Maryland Science Center has been our family's annual event, but not anymore. I suggest that families with kids DO NOT visit this kids' unfriendly place.

Esperienza fantastica: Our favorite place to go with the kids. Lots of shows. Get the annual membership, and you will love it. Parking is $12. Bring your own food. There is a small cafe with limited options.

Esperienza fantastica: I recommend going with your friend group in our late 20s/early 30s plus our friends neighbor. Catch an IMAX. Make some fart noises. Lay on a bed of nails? Sure.

Esperienza negativa: Visited two weeks in a row for two school field trips. First week I was charged 12.50$ for entry and imax, second week I was charged 26$ for entry and imax. The first week I paid it with no issues, but the second week while getting ready to pay a teacher from our school came up behind me as asked why I was paying. I told her they were charging me double from last week. Teacher said absolutely NOT, advised them that I was with the school and magically the price went to 0$. How about that? I told them from the very beginning I was with the school, but they still proceeded to tell me the cost would be $26. Goes to show you’re there all about making a buck. The people at the front are as clueless as they come, especially the older lady with glasses who stood there each week holding a clipboard. I asked why the price doubled, but of course they could not come up with a valid excuse. I’m hoping my kids do not have to return here for for field trips, place is madhouse!

Esperienza fantastica: Been a long time. I remember this place when I was a kid in the 70s. Happen onto this page from reminiscing of some old memories. The inner harbor was a great way to kill time and enjoy the day. With paddle boats one could rent, and two ships on the harbor to explore. Then visiting the Science Center topped off the day. Looks like Baltimore as a whole changed much since myself and family left in 1984.

Esperienza fantastica: A Marvelous Neighbor and Educational Gem One of the things that stands out about the Maryland Science Center is its incredible dedication to making science fun and accessible for all ages. From interactive exhibits exploring outer space, the human body, and marine life, to live science demonstrations and even an IMAX theater, the opportunities to learn and be entertained are boundless. The staff at the Maryland Science Center deserves a special mention for their warm hospitality and extensive knowledge. Approachable and passionate, they have consistently gone above and beyond to ensure visitors have an enriching experience. Their expertise shines through in the way they engage with patrons, answering questions, and guiding discussions, truly bringing science to life in the most engaging manner. Additionally, the Maryland Science Center's prime location by Rash Field and the promenade adds to its allure. A short, pleasant walk down the promenade from Ammoora Restaurant. The beautiful waterfront views and the lively atmosphere of the surrounding area make the entire experience even more enjoyable and it's a pleasure to have such a marvelous establishment in our neighborhood. In conclusion, the Maryland Science Center is a shining star among Baltimore's cultural and educational offerings. Whether you're a student, a science enthusiast, or just someone seeking a fun and enlightening experience, this place has it all. The warmth, knowledge, and innovation radiating from the Maryland Science Center's staff and exhibits are truly outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this marvelous neighbor; it's a scientific adventure waiting to happen!

Esperienza fantastica: I enjoyed very much ny visit in the science center. The place wasn’t very crowded on the weekday I visited. Very interesting place to go with kids to explore and learn new things. The Maryland Science Center has something for visitors of all ages, from the tiniest tots to grown-ups. Head to the Inner Harbor to explore the three floors of interactive exhibits designed to feed your imagination and invite you to have fun. Learn about some of the can’t-miss stops at the Science Center and how to make the most of your visit.

Michael Reekie 11 months ago

Esperienza positiva: Place was a lot of fun overall. The older kids still loved the paper airplane exhibit and that kept them engaged for over an hour. That said. One star less. Not for the museum which was open and welcoming. It's just that the museum and the harbor in general felt off. There was food only if you liked the sandwich vending machines at the museum. There was a jazz event going on near the tall ship and there were 2 or maybe 3 way overpriced street food vendors The closest simple food for the kids, ie pizza, Was 1/2 mile away. It really feels like the area directly around the Dallas convention center. It's off. And the area is a food desert. Dragging kids 1/2 mile down the block to eat killed the vibe for me.

E V 11 months ago

Esperienza positiva: Make a rainy day great! On rainy weekends when my 3 boys NEED to get put of the house, the Maryland Science Center is a great opportunity to get my kids stimulated in a STEM environment. Hands on demonstrations and experiments help keep it fresh. One thing that was odd: in the men's 1st floor bathroom, there were three sinks, but only 1 soap dispenser. Between the grubby children and their parents, having only 1 soap dispenser creates a bottleneck in the worst place possible.

Qivon A. 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: My son has grown up coming here. He doesn’t get tired of visiting and enjoys it every time. He loves the live science experiment stations and demonstrations. The iMAX theatre always has nice offerings. There have been small renovations and upgrades, but I think the entire place deserves a complete overhaul. If you have children (2-10+ years old) and see yourself coming here a few times a year, a membership is worth it!

Kamille Song 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: My son is 2.5 and he had a blast at the science center! There are so many interactive exhibits and things for him to enjoy and play with. We went on a Sunday morning and it did not feel crowded at all. As adults we had fun with a couple of the exhibits too! The staff were all really helpful, nice and informative! It is definitely a place you should go to if you're in the area with young kids! One thing to keep in mind is they have a cafe in the museum but it only sells small snacks and not real food so you should pack a lunch if you plan to eat there!

Candice C 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: Great museum. Very large. Great for social distancing. The kids dedicated area is nice but a little dated. The dinosaur area is great. And lots of interactive places for the kids to experiment, learn, touch & feel. Going around 1030 was nice - not that many people in the museum—it felt like we had it for ourselves. And if you’re a member at other like museums from your state, use the reciprocity - helped us get in for free.

Esperienza fantastica: Lots of fun, good for young kids and older kids alike. There were a TON of field trips but it cleared out by 1pm. My 4 year old loved it.

Esperienza positiva: This museum is one of the great places to take kids in the area. My kids had a good time, but some things were broken and overall it felt like it was due for an update.

Tiffanie Park 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: Love the science center for the kids but when we went to the gift shop (Saturday around 4pm) the woman checking us out was insanely rude, rolled her eyes in frustration and said “make up your mind” when we wanted to pick a different slime color for my toddler, a tiny item that was already for sale at the check out desk. Told her you know what just check out the one we have then! She then said no go ahead pick it out now, I said no check it out, and that was that. Apparently she couldn’t make up her mind about her nasty attitude.

Joey McCabe 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: The place looks really cool, it has a lot of fun interactive things, the staff is nice, and there is a great view from it. They probably need to update the screens in the dinosaur exhibit; everything looks old and a few things don't work.

Esperienza fantastica: Wonderful experience and lots to see. Interactive activities for children and very clean. There was so much to see and do that I have to come back to visit again. Esperienza fantastica: My son absolutely loves it here. He is three. Loves exploring the dinosaur area and the kids room. We have come here at least ten times and still have not seen all of the museum. We’ll worth the membership

Matthew Stubblefield 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: The museum has a lot to offer. It has areas about space, dinosaurs, your body, electricity, laughing, and more. It has newton's alley, which is an area full of fun simple things to help explore basic physics. It has an area for kids to do experiments and the shed for kids to explore problem solving. They even have a great area for young children. Since the pandemic though they do not seem to be doing as good a job of maintaining the place or bringing in new things.

Esperienza negativa: This is one museum I wish I had read the reviews before going! I got excited when I saw that they had a science museum near the National Aquarium. Unfortunately, the museum did not live up to my reasonable expectations. This museum reminds me of a mall on the verge of collapse. The space is not used effectively, most of the exhibit spaces felt empty and vacant. Many of the exhibits were broken, and dirty. I was disappointed as most science museums are created for all ages but both the staff and the spaces were only catering towards young children. Due to the lack of attendance the museum was very quiet on a Saturday afternoon, this can be a plus for some visitors but was overall unpleasant as the space felt cold/dead. I rarely say this as I love museums but this museum was not worth the price of admission. If you are looking for something to do I highly recommend spending the few extra dollars on the National Aquarium, it’s worth it.

Esperienza fantastica: My 6 and 4 year old had a wonderful time during Bubble Mania this weekend. The staff was wonderful interacting with them and the bubble show was very fun and entertaining for all. We are not first time visitors, but this was the first time we saw an IMAX movie and the Sea Lion movie was also great. Favorite exhibits are the human body and the building area and paper airplane launch on the 2nd floor. Happy to be members here.

edwina jobin 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: Great location and fun science center but be forewarned that weekdays can be overwhelmed with school groups from 10-2 pm. Kids pushing and crowding around does not make for an enjoyable experience. The exhibits were informative, interactive and entertaining. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Kim S 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: We had a great time! Lots of interactive exhibits for kids and adults alike, and friendly staff members.

Kayleen Hunt 1 year ago

Esperienza negativa: It wasn't what I expected. You can tell that some of the areas in the center are worn and I thought there would be more for the kids to do. For the prices they charge, they should have the center in better shape. Almost every where we looked we saw "out of order" signs and technicians fixing the interactive displays. I love bubbles but, I don't want to pay a fortune to see many random bubble stations. I could buy a container of bubbles for barely nothing and do that at home. When it comes to parking vouchers, the vouchers do not completely cover parking fees as mentioned on the site. We were told at the front desk that the vouchers would be good all day/night. Good thing we didn't stay out that late and left around 4pm because after scanning the voucher in the machine, we were still charged around $15 for parking.

Ravi Mathur 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: TL;DR Come for the science, DON'T expect decent food! We went with a group that included children under the age of 4. The exhibits and play rooms were great! I feel like I learned cool new things myself, which was a lot of fun. And the fact that our 3yo was engaged for 4 solid hours was impressive! However, the food situation is pathetic. 1 of the 4 vending machines was out of order. They had pizza catered from Underground Pizza Company, which I thought was a poor choice since they only offered dry stale Detroit Style pizza with the sauce on the side. I expect better considering how good the food is at other DMV-area museums!

Esperienza fantastica: We brought our kids to the Science center thinking we would spend maybe 1-2 hours there. We were there for almost five hours. Kids had so much fun! There are so many hands on activities. My husband and I had our baby and two older kids. There’s a nice infant room for little ones to crawl around. There’s also a café. No hot food but you can bring your own food. They have an area to buy snacks, premade sandwiches, or drinks. Lots of bathrooms that were clean. Really interesting dinosaur exhibit. Staff were friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the planetarium show. I would definitely recommend this place. It was also a lot cheaper than the aquarium which we almost did instead.

Esperienza positiva: Lots to do and learn. My only biggest complaint was the dirty bathrooms and cafe was MESSY!! Trash cans over flowing food on the floors. Other than that it is as a kid filled school trip.

Elisa Ferrante 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: This is probably one of my favorite all time museums. Every level is fun for the littles and adults and the kid's play room is just fantastic! Park across the street and take your parking ticket inside to get it validated and gets you a great discount on the parking fee.

Caelan Eskridge 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: There are a lot of hands-on exhibits, and the planetarium shows are included in the price of admission. There's a lot of neat stuff, though it is primarily geared towards kids. It was a bit disappointing that the exhibit on the human body sponsored by Johns Hopkins was so simplistic, but there was still plenty to learn and explore.

S D 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: Innovative place to spent a day, children aged 6 and above get good hands on experience on the different scientific facts, great place to keep kids engaged and fun way to learn. The tickets are to be purchased prior, and they have year long membership prices too. The Imax theater experience was also good, seen the sea lion adventure. Paid parking is available nearby. There is limited food option in cafeteria, carrying own food is allowed.

Kathryn W-S 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: A fun and interesting place to spend 3-4 hours. My child enjoyed it, and us adults also found the exhibits informational and entertaining. It’s very interactive and there is a planetarium with hourly free shows. We left after about 4 hours because we were all hungry and there was no food at the Center. The $11 parking at 414 Light St is an amazing deal.

Esperienza fantastica: So fun not only for the kids, i find myself playing like a kid when we go. But would recommend going durning the week, way less people and kids. Durning the weekend it so packed that its hard to really enjoy and experience everything

I'm really impressed with how massive the exhibits are. This is a beautiful place with many great opportunities to be explored.

Ian Wolfe 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: First of all, Baltimore City teachers should know that they can get in absolutely free with their teacher IDs. It’s an amazing perk. I cannot say enough good things about the Science Center. It has something for kids as young as maybe 2 all the way up to their teen years. Almost every single thing is meant to be hands-on, and the breadth of exhibits spread over three stories is so wide you can’t easily take it all in in a day. We have been twice already and there are still things we haven’t done and seen. It is wheelchair and stroller accessible, with multiple elevators spaced around the building, and the exhibit spaces are so spacious we never felt cramped even with our long two-seat stroller. There are also several clean public bathrooms, a cafe and a gift shop. I cannot recommend this place enough! It’s right up there with the aquarium as a no brainer visit for families with kids.

Jason Sh 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: The Science center is really a fun place. Go solo or with the family, but lots to do here. In my opinion, it wasn't too crowded. First thing, get that parking ticket validated! Wish there were more security or employees around. A child basically took the ball of the hovering ball exhibit and started to play with it away from the exhibit. Otherwise, most people took turns, shared, and very respectful to the other patrons. Learned a lot and had fun with the family. Will definitely be back.

Brad 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: The experience was okay, but it was definitely created with children in mind. Me and my wife went thinking it would have been more age appropriate for us, but found out otherwise. If you have kids, they will enjoy the place. Keep in mind there are a lot of broken interractive exhibits, so a lot of times your pressing a button and nothing happens. However, if your an adult looking for a more serious museum atmosphere, you should look elsewhere. In my opinion not worth the asking price, even if you have children.

Mark Rabb 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: Kids had a great time, and the planetarium was underwhelming. Wanted to see starts and stuff but ended up watching a video. Dome screen was cool, but not was i was expecting. Lost of stuff for the kids to run and try...great to get rid of some extra energy

Sarah Y 1 year ago

Esperienza positiva: We have been to Baltimore several times but this was our first time visiting the science center. They open at 10am but their first planetarium show wasn't until 12:30 and it was sesame street themed which was not of interest for my kids, the 2nd show was at 1:30 and that was a bit too long of a visit for us so we didn't get to catch a show. My youngest absolutely loved the 3rd level kids area, he could've spent the entire day in there. The bathrooms however were disgusting on the 2nd level. We had only been there an hour by then and they were already gross. Staff was stationed around the museum but non walking around to be able to alert to check the bathrooms. The Cafe was closed but you could bring your own food in. Overall I would bring my youngest back, my oldest, 11, would be bored.

Esperienza fantastica: I love Science Centers like this and always visit them, from FL, WI, and now MD! The Science Center is big, really big, three to four stories big if I recall correctly, spacious enough for anyone and very clean with a pleasant atmosphere to boot! Exhibits are varied in a good way and both interactive based AND look and see based, with my personal favorites being the dinosaur ones and extensive space Exhibit! Staff was good, not the best but not the worse and the ones based around the Exhibits and gift shop were really nice! My only complaints are the price was steep and parking SUCKS AND DEMANDS BEING PAID FOR, but aside from that? Like all others I've been too the Maryland Science Center was really fun and worth going to! Images are of the outside and inside of the building, various Exhibits, gift shop, and Souvenir I got!

Amarilis Rivera 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: Great museum for kids. We visited during spring break so it was a bit crowded but expected. The museum consisted of three different floors with lots of interactive exhibits for children to explore. There is also a demo stage where a quick science experiment is demonstrated. I would recommend the museum to families.

Shellby Castro 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: Pretty much everything positive that has been said about the Science Center is correct. It is three floors of unlimited entertainment for kids, mixing science and play to spark young curiosity into STEM. Here are some tips. We have a membership and you should too. It comes in handy for rainy days and the winter months. One time fee annually for unlimited fun. If at all possible go on weekday mornings when they open. You can get some prime parking (My favorite spot is on Key Hwy on the street) and the place is well and empty, especially during the summer when there are less school field trips. The cafe is closed due to COVID however you can still bring food and eat in the food area. Sign up for the newsletter to learn about the many programs they offer throughout the year. They even have after hour events for adults only. Happy times.

Esperienza fantastica: Great dinosaur exhibit with lots of bones and models. The kid room is awesome too. We always find something new, and the exhibits are updated frequently. All 3 floors have fun for people of all ages

Charm'tastic Mile 2 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: The Charm’tastic Mile was at the 100th Birthday celebration for the late, great William Donald Schaefer at the Maryland Science Center. It was honor to meet Gov Larry Hogan and take a photo with him the Governor’s Citation that he issued to The Mile for their 2bd Anniversary of the unveiling of the famed 1.3 Mile corridor. It was a fun and a honor to be there for the life and legacy of WDS. The Maryland Science Center is a must see attraction in Charm City (Est. 1975).

Esperienza fantastica: A must see! Honestly, this was the coolest place. The only thing is, I felt pretty germy when I left. Touching things countless other people have touched repeatedly, is pretty gross, especially during a pandemic. That being said, I am pretty concerned about Covid, but choose to visit here anyways, knowing it was interactive. There's a section about the body and you can balance on a plate and it counts how long you can balance for. My husband and I were having fun with that. There's another section where you put your hands together, with a chicken wire fence in between and you roll your hands together, that was really neat. Your hands feel so soft. Overall it was a really nice experience. Pack healthy snacks or a lunch just in case the cafeteria is closed like it was for us, they offer vending machine snacks but not really healthy options. The machines do take credit cards. And of course the dinosaur bones were also a highlight and the planetarium. For motion sick type people, you may need to close your eyes every now and again or take Bonine or Dramamine prior. I get really bad motion sickness, even on an elevated, and I just had to squint or close my eyes sometimes.

Esperienza positiva: The kids always enjoy a visit to the science center and it has a lot of great stuff there. I have two problems with it. First we have been going there for years and been members for a few of those. I am not sure where all the money goes but they don't seem to keep up the exabits or fix the ones that break. It is really getting worn down and old. My second problem is that we have been getting year memberships and when COVID-19 started we lost a year membership and yes they made a offer a little while after it started but the kids were not vaccinated yet and by the time the kids could get vaccinated the offer was no good any more. They don't care and just want your money.

Esperienza positiva: I get the requirements of the masks but a lot weren't wearing them today. And if we have to wear them why aren't things sanitized between people touching everything? Not as enjoyable as it use to be for cost. At least there was new exhibits this visit

Esperienza fantastica: We loved this place and will now become members. I only wish the cafe was open for dining. Lots to do for kids on three levels. Parking is not great or convenient though but oh well.

Esperienza fantastica: So much fun. My nieces and nephews were mesmerized from start to finish and didn't want to leave. So many engaging, hands-on exhibits! So much fun.

Esperienza positiva: Fun except missing the Imax show by 3 minutes with my family and not allowed to enter after start. I also think it is a bit expensive and closes a bit early. Nonetheless still a good learning experience for all and an amazing view of the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Esperienza fantastica: I would give this place 5,000 stars if I could. We spent open to close there minus a small lunch break and my daughter only got through half of it. She was amazed by the imax movie and loved the planetarium. She loves science and this was so interactive and also not too kiddy for her as she's approaching 9. Hopefully one day we can get back to visit again!
