Tra i punti salienti:

🗣️ Museo Hirshhorn: Opinioni

Esperienza positiva: It was okay, best part was the room with the boat because it had good vibes. Enjoyed the cafe and gelato at the cafe on ground level: DOLCEZZA Took us about 30 minutes to finish the tour.

Esperienza fantastica: Such a cool modern museum! No tickets needed. Family friendly.

Esperienza fantastica: Good place I guess but I just don’t get how most of the stuff in here is art. The Laurie Anderson installation is cool though.

Esperienza positiva: Sparse collection of art. Building looks nice but that’s about it. If you have a full day in DC you can definitely skip this one and spend more time at National Gallery

Esperienza positiva: Compared to the other art museums in DC, this was a bit of a let down. There was no locker and the new exhibitions were rather self-indulgent. The permanent collection was good though. Spent only about an hour there. They were also doing a reno, so might look unappealing from the outside.

Esperienza fantastica: While I did not like a lot of the art, it was fun to take photos as have a good laugh of what other call art.

Esperienza positiva: Some art thought provoking, some skippable. But overall, a good art museum to visit. The exhibits are constantly changing, so you may love some shows, dislike others. Never boring.

Esperienza fantastica: One of the coolest museums I have ever been to. Four talks by Laurie Anderson was such an amazing piece.

Esperienza fantastica: I enjoyed my visit to the Hirshhorn museum. One good thing about it is that you do not need a ticket nor a pass to get in, contrary to a few other museums in the area. It wasn't crowded as I was among the very first to find my way in and upstairs. I enjoyed the 2nd floor the most and the basement or underground.

Esperienza fantastica: Not a huge fan of modern art but I was entertained for 30 minutes. Too bad the third floor exhibition wasn’t open. Definitely worth at least popping in.

Esperienza positiva: Excellent contemporary art museum. Despite its size from the street, the space for exhibitions is not very large. But for that reason I think the Hirshorn tends to have slightly more interesting works on display, and the collections rotate more frequently than the National Art Galleries right across the mall. A range of all mediums including video and large scale installations can be seen. There's a small and humble lobby / cafe area (dolcezza , overpriced but a more interesting option than the food trucks or schlepping out to the nearest starbucks/zekes). My only gripe is the building entrance can be confusing to navigate towards (you enter from within the circle rather than from the entry at the street side, if you enter from the mall, walkthru the donut to find the bright yellow painted entrance). The outdoor sculpture garden is currently under construction so it's a bit of a mess over there but definitely worth a visit !

Esperienza positiva: Went on Solstice Saturday. Some good music going on at the entrance rotunda. Seemed like quite a bit of temporary art, probably in anticipation of the crowds due to later hours the museums were opened. A bit too crowded, but ok otherwise.

John Haller 2 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: I had never visited a modern art museum before, and found the various materials, concepts, as well as paintings to mostly be interesting. With all art, some speaks to the viewer, and some doesn't, but they were all well picked. The museum isn't very large, especially if it's between special exhibits, but makes good use out of the space. I was a little disappointed to have missed the sculpture garden during construction, but cranes are a form of modern art. The picture is a small piece of a much larger work, but having worked in tech, this part rang true.

Esperienza fantastica: This unique art museum offers unexpected and remarkable works depending on the exhibition period. The café on the first floor is usually crowded, and since we didn't want to wait in line, we skipped getting a drink.

Esperienza fantastica: The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, is a dynamic centerpiece of contemporary art within the Smithsonian Institution. This museum, offers an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art, featuring works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, and Yayoi Kusama. Upon entering the circular building, designed you are immediately struck by its unique architectural style. The museum's open layout allows for an immersive experience, with each gallery seamlessly flowing into the next. The central courtyard is a serene space, providing a moment of calm amid the vibrant art. One of the Hirshhorn’s standout features is its dedication to showcasing a wide range of media. The museum boasts an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and video installations. Temporary exhibitions are frequently rotated, ensuring that each visit offers something new and exciting. Recent exhibitions have included large-scale retrospectives and thought-provoking thematic displays. The outdoor sculpture garden is a must-visit, offering an impressive array of works in a tranquil setting. Highlights include Rodin's "The Burghers of Calais" and Koons' "Kiepenkerl." This space is perfect for a leisurely stroll and provides a unique perspective on the interaction between art and nature. In addition to its impressive collection, the Hirshhorn is committed to public engagement. The museum hosts a variety of programs, including artist talks, film screenings, and interactive workshops, catering to a diverse audience. These initiatives foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of contemporary art.

Esperienza fantastica: We were able to walk right in, no line. Might have been my favorite Smithsonian Museum during my trip to DC. We loved the cool exhibits. I took tons of pictures. I thought the art was current and fun. This museum isn't for stuffy old folks, it is loud with colors and art. I recommend.

Esperienza fantastica: Free and fabulous! This forwardly modern museum boasts beautiful artwork spanning several eras including mobiles, massive murals, and huge sculptures in a digestible-sized space like the Whitney in NYC, but right by the National Mall. From floor to ceiling, this spot has good female, queer, and POC artist representation. NOTES/TIPS: **Plenty of restrooms on every floor. **Wheelchair-accessible. **Snacks and coffee inside, gelato outside.

Karen V 2 months ago

Esperienza positiva: It most certainly is an eccentric collection of art. I guess you can say art is like beauty, or beauty is like art. You either love the look of the art piece, or you don't. As a whole, I'm not in love with abstract art. However, I do appreciate some of the works. The entrance to the museum is currently along the side of the building in the courtyard near the fountain. The main entrance is blocked off. Once inside the building, you're hit with the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. There is a Dolcezza Coffee & Gelato café in the main lobby with a very sleek design. The furnishings and overall look of the lobby was reimagined by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. He was inspired by the circular form of the building, and created a functional area that would incorporate the circles in nature. I was immediately drawn to the large table base with the spiral chairs. It's a slice of a 700 year old nutmeg tree that displays an intertwining root system under the glass table top. It's very unique, and really compliments the Hirshhorn Museum quite well. We immediately headed up to the next level to view the "Revolutions" exhibit. This is where you'll find most of the famous contemporary art pieces from art history class. There were paintings from Georgia O'Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Mary Cassatt, Jackson Pollock, and so many more. We walked through the "Four Talks" exhibit on our way to the next gallery. I won't even begin to interpret the thoughts painted in black and white with mixed grey swirls around each comment. We also saw a few Auguste Rodin sculptures along the way. We both agreed that Delaunay's "Eiffel Tower and Garden's, Champ de Mars" was truly the one art piece that captured our full attention. We didn't get to see "Pickett's Charge" by Mark Bradford, nor did we see "Belief+Doubt" by Barbara Kruger. It was almost lunch time, and these 2 exhibits deserve more than just a brief walk through. We'll just have to revisit this museum the next time we're vacationing in the DMV.

Esperienza positiva: not a bad museum appreciate that It is free. I felt there could of been more exhibits but otherwise I can't complain.

J Kay 3 months ago

Esperienza negativa: If you go, plan to leave early because they close more than promptly. The employees were yelling at everyone to leave the building just before closing time. I was separated from my family member and the yelling was very disorienting and panic inducing. One employee chased us off the grounds, all the way down the steps to the street before the listed closing time. He was constantly yelling at us, and he wouldn't even allow me to pause long enough to put my jacket in my bag. My family member is an octogenarian and I have cptsd and ended up crying afterwards. It ruined the whole experience for me. Bathrooms are located ONLY on basement level, very frustrating for for my less than abled body. Large exhibit areas were closed.

Esperienza positiva: I always look forward to visiting the Hirshhorn when visiting DC. A peeve: I was watching the art competition video and straining to hear. Behind me, sitting in the back row, were two guards talking loudly and after indicating that I couldnt hear, they ignored me. In general, there seem to be many security guards and with seemingly little to do, many talk, yell, goof around, presumably to keep boredom at bay. I've noticed this in at least one other Smithsonian museum. It seems worse here. There aren't restaurants in the immediate area, and it would be nice if the museum would have a quality cafe

Esperienza positiva: Great museum for modern arts. Part is under construction but still worth a visit!

Esperienza fantastica: This museum has a ton of cool, colourful, meaningful, and unique contemporary art pieces. There are three levels in the museum, each displaying different styles of art. My favorite exhibit was “Four Talks” by Laurie Anderson. It was very interesting with all the different messages scattered throughout the room. I had a good time enjoying the art in the museum and I highly recommend you visit when you’re in DC. Best part is that the admission is free!

Esperienza fantastica: Great museum that displays modern art! It’s a pretty quick one and a nice break in between history museums. There are two floors of exhibitions and sometimes they do special ones. The sculpture garden outside is also cool and you can get gelato there as well. I would definitely recommend coming here during your DC trip!!

Esperienza fantastica: Fantastic museum of modern art. I am not a connoisseur of modern art. But I hugely appreciate the way the museum has displayed the art works of the artists, kept the place so alive and so attractive.

Esperienza fantastica: The Hirshhorn Museum is a beacon of modern art, a circular bastion of creativity that stands proudly on the National Mall. Its unique architecture, a bold statement in concrete, houses a riveting collection of contemporary masterpieces that challenge and enchant. Inside, the works of Calder, Warhol, and Bourgeois engage in silent dialogue with visitors, while outside, the Sculpture Garden offers a meditative retreat with its array of thought-provoking pieces. It’s a place where art is alive, pulsing with the stories of those who dare to push boundaries. The Hirshhorn is not just a museum; it’s a cultural landmark where every visit is an encounter with the sublime.

Esperienza fantastica: Really enjoyed this free museum! Saw lots of favorite artists’ work and a great Laurie Anderson installation. Definitely worth a visit while in DC.

Anthony Markley 4 months ago

Esperienza negativa: No art here. I'm open minded, but the whole museum was just hyper progressive propagandic nonsense. If I had paid, I'd have demanded a refund. Nothing esthetically pleasing or thought provoking or beautiful. Attempts at delivering some kind of message were juvenile. This museum exemplifies why art is not wholly respected in modern times.

Esperienza positiva: Hirshhorn has a great selection of modern art! We got tickets ahead of time for the yayoi kusama exhibit, but there still was a time limit for this exhibit. overall, I recommend visiting!

Patrick Min 4 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: I enjoy visiting this museum in Washington, DC, because of its various exhibitions and contemporary art collections. In 2022, I had the opportunity to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at this museum, which was fantastic. Hirshhorn Museum is dedicated to contemporary art and culture, serving as a national platform for artists and their works. The museum showcases international modern and contemporary art in the iconic cylindrical building, along with the adjacent plaza and sculpture garden.

Esperienza fantastica: The museum had plenty of stunning modern and contemporary artwork. My favorite part was the inspirational words on the wall. Unfortunately, parts of the museum were under construction.

Esperienza fantastica: The Hirshhorn Museum has lovely contemporary pieces - 2D and 3D. You need a couple of hours to make it through everything. Plan ahead and scope out the website if you're interested in seeing a particular artist.

Ben Laurie 6 months ago

Esperienza positiva: The ongoing renovations have minimized the collection, but that is not clear from the website. Not worth the extra steps when trying to squeeze in as much as possible while visiting the National Mall.

Nuha Anwar 6 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: I came to the museum last year for the now-closed Yayoi Kusama exhibit a year ago. It was such a beautiful and unique exhibit, even though it was disappointing to have about 30 seconds in the infinity mirrors space, and you had to move fast due to the crowd. The gift shop is pretty nice, as you can get a inflatable lamp, and some unique puzzles. Gelato here is pretty good, but I do think they would attract more people if they sold sandwiches or bagels to go with the coffee you can buy from the shop. Also, the main floor, which is where you check in with security is a bit crowded. Tomorrow is the last day to see the Simone Leigh exhibit, but for those who love poetry, there's also the Jessica Diamond: Wheel of Life that will be there until June. I do think the temporary exhibits are what makes Hirshhorn a unique museum as there's not much to see with the Barbara Kruger exhibit. Pickett's Charge is pretty nice, and you will often find yourself walking around the entire museum through that exhibit. For tourists, I would recommend one trip a year. Hirshhorn not a museum that you would want to keep coming back to as it can get repetitive. Definitely check for the temporary exhibits because that's what makes this museum great.

Rina Cohen Schwarz 6 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful pieces! There’s always some spectacular art to see here. You can spend 20-30 minutes quickly walking through or 1-2 hours (or more) really looking at each piece.

Emmanuelle Hardy-Senécal 6 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: Great (and free!!) modern art museum with an interesting "cylindric" architecture and a sculpture garden. While the building is very big, the visit doesn't take that much time: the different art pieces are not close to each others which enables the visitor to appreciate each piece for itself, unlike certain other museums where you are overwhelmed by the quantity of exhibitions to visit and art pieces to look at. It makes the art "breathe" which is highly appreciated.

Reinier Cruz 6 months ago

Esperienza negativa: This is an spectacular building from an arquitectural stand point which is not well used. The museum is not atractive at all. The floors are used to exposed small collections in the entire floor that makes the building look empty. It looks like behind the administrative desk there is an old person with no modern ideas taking wrong decisions about this great building poorly used.

Polina V 6 months ago

Esperienza positiva: The best part are sculptures around the building. Apart from, that there were open two exhibitions in the round halls and -1 floor. Everything else - coming soon. This was extremely disappointing. I was planing to spend here 3 hours. I was done in 30 minutes.

Brian Anderson 6 months ago

Esperienza positiva: A great collection, thoughtful curation, and some of the best forums you can ask for at the intersection of art, culture, and policy. Why not 5-Stars? There are three stunning views of the National Mall: the Speaker’s Balcony, the top of the Capitol Dome, and the Hirshhorn Balcony - a stunning 180-view at the center of the Mall that’s not too far away or too high in the sky. The other two at the Capitol are closed to the public without a Congressional connection and/or luck. But the Hirshhorn Balcony used to be open to the public. But now it’s only for rich donors. So much for practicing what artists preach…

Armin P 6 months ago

Esperienza negativa: Not recommended, waste of time! The museum was almost empty, didn’t get the point of wasting this much space and energy and money on this, this building could’ve been used for other better purposes at least.

Esperienza fantastica: The museum is a good place for exhibits, the docent was excellent, and I can't wait for the gardens to be restored soon.

Tania Abraham 6 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: I absolutely, unequivocably LOVE the Hirshhorn Museum. Not only because of the amazing permanent collection that they have with pieces from Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and more— but also the AMAZING exhibitions that they continue to hold. Ideally located on Independence Ave NW close to the National Monument, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum etc. you could not go to a museum in a better location. On my most recent visit, I went to see the amazing works from contemporary artist Simone Leigh and was blown away by the depth, creativity and sheer beauty of all the pieces from the collection. Each and every one of the sculptures told a story, and taking an even closer look at the lighting and shadow work with each piece added additional meaning and thought provoking intrigue. I can’t wait to see which artist and exhibitions are up next!

Vanessa G 7 months ago

Esperienza positiva: I personally do not get it. A lot of empty space, simple murals that feel they do not belong in such a unique building. The coffee shop was good though. Expensive, but good!

Aarushi G 8 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: Excellent exhibits focused on more unique mediums than just painting The exhibit on photography and self expression in China was AMAZING Good descriptions and context given for a lot of the work to help interpret Unique circular layout makes for interesting exhibit setups

Esperienza fantastica: The Hirschhorn is described as a leading world voice of contemporary art that provides a national platform for the art and artists of today and tomorrow. With thousands of art exhibits in its collection, this multi storied modern architectural marvel is brimming with art and stories awaiting your discovery. Plenty of seating, a cafe, souvenir shop, good wifi and even places to charge your phone - this is a good place to spiritually and literally recharge your batteries. Download the Hirschhorn eye, an app that, with a simple scan, provides background and interesting information about the art you are admiring. Definitely a must see!

Esperienza positiva: Modern art is really hit-or-miss, and aside from a few pieces, the exhibitions this month (November 2023) were mostly misses. If you’re looking to visit, I’d recommend waiting for a new exhibit. Also, the sculpture garden is temporarily closed.

Aquarius 10 months ago

Esperienza fantastica: Best art museum, hands down! We were only in DC for three days and visited twice to make sure we had ample time to see everything. Purple was gut wrenchingly beautiful and we loved every exhibit. We'll definitely be back. I tried going online to order a few things from the store and realized I can't order anything that was actually in store and that's a bit of a bummer.

Esperienza positiva: Hirshorn is a must for modern art lovers. Pickets Charge is amazing on the top exhibit floor but the museum is installing new art so most of top floor is closed. Purple and Four talks are amazing exhibits and worth the trip by themselves . Also enjoy the outside sculpture garden on the north side and the garden on the west side especially in good weather.

Esperienza positiva: A truly modern museum of art. Some parts are very surreal, some parts are dreamy and other parts are just competing with any other modern museum. The building is very different. Considering Washington DC is super boring this is a great oasis of a dull city.

Esperienza positiva: It wasn't too shabby. Definitely a smaller art museum but it makes up for it with the art itself. Most of the exhibition were beautiful, stunning, and elegant with some taking up entire rooms! A fun place to spend about 1.5-2 hours.

Esperienza positiva: I really did have a fun time at the museum. I would only give this four stars based on the fact there was an exhibit that we really wanted to see and it was not disclosed on the website or on Instagram that it was no longer available. I was pretty upset about that but I enjoyed myself overall

Brian Dible 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: This was a spectacular place to visit. The building itself is impressive. The only disappointment during this visit was the fountain in the center wasn't working. The one video that was playing with 3 different screens really hit the senses. Overall would definitely go back when new additions are added.

Esperienza fantastica: We had a truly unique experience in this walk-through of the wonderfully weird and I would easily rank it amongst my favorite of the DC museums. The curved layout creates an even further sense of wonderment for each exhibit and leaves guests wondering just what on Earth might be around the next corner. Though many of the pieces are undeniably thought-provoking, others are so abstract that it makes you wonder if YOU are the one on display. I just imagine a focus group watching me to see if I fall for their joke. The highlight was undoubtedly the Yayoi Kusama collection. Those gnarly orbs are an attraction in itself, but overall offer an interactive experience that makes you feel as if you're walking through her mind. TIP: Grab your tickets to the Kusama exhibit BEFORE walking through the museum and grab your coffee or tea AFTER walking through, as food & drink aren't allowed. You wouldn't believe how many people we saw make that mistake.

Jan Pokorný 1 year ago

Esperienza fantastica: The exhibition One with Eternity from Kusama is really fun and unique. However is quite small, so I recommend to go off peak hours otherwise you will wait a lot. We had a problem at first to get a ticket because the staff did not really care, but then they have switched and the other guy was super helpful and friendly.

Esperienza fantastica: To date one of my favorite modern art museums in DC, the collection of pieces are very cohesive amongst each other

Esperienza negativa: To say the current exhibits were underwhelming, is a compliment. I felt like I was standing in a Pier 1 imports store in the clearance aisle looking at old or slightly damaged goods. Bradford's work, while not appealing to me was intriguing as he incorporated all 8 of the installations into his paintings... but you can only see it from up close. It's interesting. If you want passes to the special exhibits GET THERE EARLY because once the passes are given out for the day, that's it.

Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful, had a great experience, lovely work. Free entry. But certain areas of the gallery needed an online ticket (also free).

Esperienza negativa: Couldn’t believe there were children allowed there, very disturbing. This type of art was dark, looking at the worst views of life, and rather unpredictable. The dark nature of things and x rated things are for grown eyes only. Honestly they aren’t even for my eyes and I do not recommend these types of disturbing views of life. I left after two exhibits quickly walked through.

Esperienza fantastica: Honestly my favorite free museum in the DC area, and probably of all time. They keep the exhibits fresh and rotate them pretty often. I love how there are so many different mediums of art here, from traditional paintings, to photos videos and even a fully painted room. If you've knocked out all the touristy parts of DC, this should be on your list.

Esperienza positiva: Intern: It was pretty good, but I personally didn’t like most of the art. I think my favorite piece was unruly thread. My least favorite was an exhibit called purple.

Esperienza positiva: Its a fun place to visit free of cost in DC. Would recommend visiting their website to get passes in advance or going early because they run out of exhibition passes real soon on weekends.
