Museo di Berkshire
ℹ️ Informazione
Esperienza negativa: Took 20 minutes to find a place to park which put a damper on the entire visit
Esperienza fantastica: My grandchildren always find fun things to do. The playroom has been closed for months though, so that's been a disappointment.
Esperienza fantastica: This little museum packs a mighty punch. There is a lot to explore here! An aquarium and reptile center, which is kept beautifully clean and cared for. An art wing with paintings, sculptures and photographs. A bit of history about the area and they people that accomplished such wonderful things and so much more. The grounds were quaint, the museum staff were lovely and the exhibits were spectacular. Take your whole family and head over, it is a wonderful afternoon out!
Esperienza fantastica: Well worth the entry fee, 3 floors to explore! Very clean, nice exhibit!
Esperienza positiva: Alot of educational information about animals.
Esperienza fantastica: This is a wonderful community museum. Kids (and some adults) love the natural history gallery and the camps, aquariums, and classes. There are usually special exhibits for the large number of adults who visit during the spring and summer. This summer (2024), there are two great exhibits that focus on women. One, "Women in Space" took us from the first woman, who in 1912, flew the first loop the loop, through Amelia Earhart to the pioneers of the US Space Program (see photos). The other special exhibit, "Black Women as Muse" presented some beautiful, Black x White photographs of Black women from all walks of life (see photos).
Esperienza fantastica: This museum is truly excellent! The entrance fee is modest and it includes an aquarium and a reptile enclosure in the basement. Very well done. There were many exhibits upstairs including gems and rare stones, a display of all the birds in the United States, local innovators and artists, and others. It's a must see if you're in the Lenox area.
Esperienza fantastica: What a surprisingly fun day spent at the museum. It has a little bit of everything to satisfy every age group.
Esperienza fantastica: This museum is the perfect place to take kids. You can tell that they have created the space to encourage children to explore and learn. As an adult it is a wonderful little museum tucked into the town. Their rotating exhibits are always wonderful and thoughtful. It's always a pleasure returning to this museum time after time.
Esperienza fantastica: This is a little home town Museum again. I live in the area so I have been many times not much change in exhibits but for those of you that want to know what is really out in the wilderness here this is a great place to start.
Esperienza fantastica: Fun time.for adults and kids!
Esperienza fantastica: Nice museum with a wide range of local taxidermy, art, regional history, aquarium and live reptiles, hands on things for the kids, and in depth history for the adults.
Esperienza fantastica: Great little museum. Lots of variety. The aquarium and reptiles were a highlight for our animal lover. They also had mummies, Calder scupltures, minerals, and much more. We had a very short visit but wish we could have spent twice as long.
Esperienza fantastica: Every time we visit The Berkshire Museum with my daughter we always learn something new that's cool and exciting for both of us. There is always awesome activities for the kids. And the best part is the Aquarium! We're gone more times than I can count and we still will always go back!
Esperienza positiva: This place was great, but for some reason they have taken out anything for the kids to do besides the small/questionable habitats they have set up in the basement. While there today (Jan 2024) we met two other families with young children wondering why they took all the fun exhibitions out. My daughter won't stop asking why they took the fun things out, which is what prompted me to write this review. Hopefully they bring something back soon. The parking on the side of north street is unsafe for families getting children out of car seats if there is any traffic, doubly so if it is winter and the parking spots are only halfway cleaned up.
Esperienza positiva: Smaller size museum, easy to spend an hour to ninety minutes perusing their collection. Went on a very cold day to get out of the house and see some things. Still have the mummy which I had been fascinated with as a child. The little aquarium had lots of sea horses to gaze at and lots of other fun creatures to spot.
Esperienza fantastica: Nice museum. Lots of stuff.
Esperienza positiva: Good with children. Have reptiles and an aquarium with live creatures in the basement
Esperienza fantastica: Great display of Holiday trees and permanent installation. Family from out of town were impressed!
Esperienza positiva: An interesting mix of things in this collection. We'll possibly visit again, when we have more time and stamina. Picking one of many memorable things: they have a very remarkable collection of taxidermied birds! ️
Esperienza negativa: This place had a couple of nice exhibits, but was mostly very disorganized. Their exhibit on General Electric didn't mention anything about their pollution of many areas, and although some of the live animal exhibits were ok, their ball pythons were so dehydrated and just about every care standard was being violated. Whoever takes care of these animals needs to read a book about how to care for them, because it is sad to see animals in such a state at an institution that should know better.
Esperienza fantastica: This is very fun and eclectic museum. They have a remarkable variety of art displayed in unusual combinations. The basement level hosts fish, lizards and more. They he makes make it good for parent and children’s. This size is also nice, we probably covered the whole place in less than two hours. The special winter exhibit of Christmas trees was cute and nice for the season!
Esperienza negativa: I think the Berkshire Museum sold off most of its collections and hands-on exhibits they had for kids. It now feels like an apt that belongs to a divorced dad who lives above a pet store.
Esperienza fantastica: The regional museum to the Berkshires and an awesome mix of Aquarium, fine art museum, kids museum, and natural history museum. The exhibits are interesting and update periodically. Events are also regularly held here sometimes public social ones but private events are possible too. It’s always worth a visit.
Esperienza fantastica: This is a great size and variety for a mixed ages family.
Esperienza fantastica: Free for my husband. A Veteran. A lovely place to visit.
Esperienza fantastica: 3 floors of exhibits. Very clean. Exhibits are spaced out well.
Esperienza fantastica: Nice little museum located at the heart of Pittsfield. We enjoy our visit there!
Esperienza negativa: The animal care is a 50/50 split. A bunch of the aquariums as well as reptile are lacking enrichment. A lot of the tanks have the incorrect setup, and some of the animals are injured. The skins eye is hurt, as well as the skinks feet are all in bad condition. The abronia graminiea have an incorrect husbandry setup as they are arborial and their setup does not reflect that. One of the two I could see also has a head injury that I couldn't make out
Esperienza negativa: Never been a fan of animals out of their natural habitat but this, this is practically inhumane. Animal tanks are dirty, food is old, animals are miserable and injured and the craziest part is how they have at least 9 piranhas in a tank the size of a window. Just waiting for sure death. They don't move because there's no room. Coming from the biggest river in the world to a window in someone's basement? Smh shame on humans.
Esperienza positiva: Nice museum with some interactive things (play area, building activities) for my 4 year old to try. Small aquarium and reptile area in basement was nice too. Clean and staff very nice.
Esperienza fantastica: We enjoyed our trip to this museum. It was 3 stories jam packed of information and history. We learned a lot. I can't remember if it was $10 or $15 per person to get in but it was well worth the cost.
Esperienza positiva: It was small but a fun time. There is plenty to enjoy in the museum. Stuff from all over the world and time.
Esperienza negativa: Used a half off coupon and still cost $23 for 2 adults and 2 children. This means full price is $46. Museum was ok. In addition to typical small art/history museum it had an aquarium and reptile area in the basement. However immediate area around museum is not child friendly. Family walked past broad daylight public drug use including an individual passed out with a syringe in his arm. I would not recommend this as a destination for families with small children.
Esperienza positiva: Great local regional museum when you are in the area. Perfect for elementary school kids. Lots of local information. Beautiful aquarium in the basement. Budget 1-2 hours. Street parking only. Very friendly staff!
Esperienza fantastica: Fun little museum good time for adults or children
Esperienza fantastica: Such a great time for a playdate on winter break! Loved the bubble show!
Esperienza positiva: Very fun and interesting! Although not much staff available too ask questions.
Esperienza positiva: A sad lack of their best art work which was sold off to create a cute little children’s museum.
Esperienza positiva: Informative exhibit on Hudson river school artists and the origins of the museum itself
Esperienza fantastica: This museum has some of everything: history, science, art-- my favorite turned out to be the aquarium and terrarium.
Esperienza fantastica: great museam the only good thing about pittsfield left but the statues used to scare me when i was a little kid for some reason
Esperienza fantastica: Great museum with some very unique pieces and exhibits, well worth visiting.
Esperienza positiva: Nice place with something for everyone. Aquarium in the basement, along with contemporary and classic art on the floors above
Esperienza positiva: Always check for some interesting exhibits. The basement aquarium and reptile and terrarium is a personal favorite.
Esperienza fantastica: The exhibits were wonderful to look through. Always a pleasure. The place is clean and tranquil. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop through
Esperienza positiva: Wish I could be more enthusiastic about this museum but it has some problems. Without going into tedious detail, the biggest problem is the way things have been thrown together. For example, one case had Hawaiian and Japanese artifacts with no clear labeling or identification. The sparsity of descriptions associated with the exhibits really needs elaboration.
Esperienza fantastica: Special trip here with family on a long weekend. Stimulating activities for children of any age; our toddler aged son was happy the entire time. Adults there can learn a great deal as well. Beautiful, well maintained building. Will return once back in the area.
Esperienza positiva: It's a museum that is currently reckoning with the ethical problems most museums have. They are working on fixing it, but it's definitely a process and it's definitely not done. The 1st floor is a good time covering local ecology and rocks. The 2nd floors tattoo exhibit and art exhibit are both excellent. I would avoid the basement aquarium altogether
Esperienza fantastica: Don’t get me wrong. It’s a nice museum. It’s geared for kids. Not what I was expecting. But all the kids there seem to love it.
Esperienza fantastica: I do think admission is overpriced especially if you have a family with you. I was lucky to get in free as they do offer free admission for teachers. It's a well done museum for such a small space. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits. The fact that my admission was free made it all the better.
Esperienza fantastica: This is a lovely museum that anyone and everyone should take a moment to explore. There are many activities for kids, there was even a field trip for a local elementary class and the students were delighted. Events and movie screenings are offered and it’s a really wonderful way to celebrate community, education and culture. Grateful for this space and the kind staff that sweeten the experience.
Esperienza fantastica: Perfect size for a nice and simple visit. It tires out little ones with the steps and a lot of the exhibits are their height. They get an extra star because they have a bunch of step-ups for the kids to see things so they can enjoy the exhibits without being held.
Esperienza fantastica: Great natural science museum with a small aquarium in the basement. Nice mix of displays, well lit play area and you can do birthday parties there! I would post pics but they are all sideways and annoying for some reason lol. Please go and enjoy. Take better pics than me.
Esperienza fantastica: Really nice museum! Beautiful arts, fun spaces for kids, nice staff.
Esperienza fantastica: Had a great day out with the kids. Learned some interesting new facts about the area.
Esperienza positiva: A very kid friendly museum. They really loved the aquarium they had downstairs. It was nice to see this sign they had posted acknowledging the problems museums face with how they source items.
Esperienza fantastica: We had a lovely time here! We enjoyed seeing the animals in the aquarium and reptiles section. The art was lovely to observe as well! I especially appreciated the signs acknowledging problematic aspects of museums and history about local native people. Thank you for being responsible.
Esperienza fantastica: I’ve visited twice in two years with my family, during my summer vacation, and I plan to return. This is one of my favorite museums. It has a lot of variety and I feel like there’s something for everyone. It’s super kid-friendly with several areas for activities. There are also rotating exhibits and then the permanent exhibits with the animals. Lots of info on the history of the area. This time we got to enjoy the marble statues. There’s also an aquarium on the basement floor. This establishment is clearly LGBTQ-friendly and family oriented. The entrance fee is fair for the amount of time you will likely be there. Plenty of parking nearby. This is a nice activity if you’re retired or vacationing. They also keep it very clean. There is not a snack bar or snacks in the little gift shop. But it’s downtown with lots of shops and cafes within walking distance. (I also wrote a review for Otto’s nearby.) Of note: in several places, the museum is clear to acknowledge that traditional museums, it included, has an inherent bias in its views and how they display art or history. They are actively working to broaden their interpretations and consider their lens when curating new works. Great visit!
Esperienza fantastica: Such beautiful beautiful structure outside. The museum has a lot to see and learn. It is huge inside with paintings, artifacts and culture.
Esperienza positiva: Nice local museum with a good variety of exhibits. The aquarium in particular is very nice for a museum of this size. It's fairly small and mostly geared to kids, but it's good enough to keep the adults entertained as well. The $15/adult price is a bit high if you are visiting without kids, as you can get through the whole thing in about an hour. But if the price doesn't bother you it's well worth the visit.
Esperienza fantastica: Awesome mix. Aquarium on the bottom floor was great, along with the rock and mineral section. Ancient History Replica art/sculptures, ancient zoology, early technology innovations and more... Great place for those who gently respect and appreciate museum artifacts. If your kids are wild then might not keep their attention;)
Esperienza fantastica: My son and I visit once every couple of months, just to get out. Today we really enjoyed the underwater nautical exhibit and its features. It was fun, hands on, and interesting. We went down to the aquarium several times, my son was obsessed with finding all of the poison dart frogs camouflaged in their tank. Overall, a great time exploring the many exhibits.
Esperienza positiva: Fine regional museum. Aquarium exhibits in lower level. History and art included. Stuff for kids too. Exhibits are well done.
Esperienza positiva: I like this museum, however, it seems to settling for a combination children's museum and a regular natural history museum. I think they should become a full blown children's museum.
Esperienza fantastica: The collection exceeded my expectations.
Esperienza fantastica: Great small-town museum. Exhibits change frequently. If you are in the area, stop in and enjoy!
Esperienza fantastica: A regional museum with many great exhibits covering a wide range of subjects. Definitely well worth a visit.
Esperienza positiva: Very interesting exhibits since the 2nd floor reopened. Small aquarium in the basement is cute.
Esperienza positiva: Cute little museum with a great focus on kids activities and learning. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Esperienza fantastica: It was a great time for me.alot of memories from the past runnin through that place to get to the dinosaur and aquarium exhibits. Lovely.
Esperienza positiva: Nice museum, it has a decent collection of art and animals. My boys liked it very much.
Esperienza positiva: Really cute museum, nice for families but expensive for what it is. Definitely worth the trip, I especially enjoyed the insects and local art.
Esperienza positiva: Not much here and the activities for kids just visiting on vacation are minimal. They had some sort of summer camp that looked fun for the kids. So this place probably serves the community well.
Esperienza fantastica: We love coming here so much we bought a membership. They recently renovated the museum so it has new interactive exhibits on second floor.fun for kids.
Esperienza positiva: Interesting, somewhat random collection of artifacts. Definitely learned some new things. Some exhibits have rather short descriptions, others are described well with information on the background of the item. Some local history tied in here too. All in all it was a good way to spend a few hours.
Esperienza positiva: Certainly tired two little ones out. Wish that a play area was not the first thing we walked in on. The little ones were so focused on playing, we didn't see much of the rest of the museum. Wish there was better parking. We had to park down the street and walk through some alleys. Fortunately it was a pleasant day. Overall it was a great experience and definitely plan on coming back for the rest of the museum.
Esperienza positiva: It was fun and very price efficient. They had hands on activities, which my girls enjoyed. We especially enjoyed the aquarium in the basement level. One of exhibits felt a little empty but overall it was a good experience.
Esperienza fantastica: Awesome day trip for kids ages 2 to 12… even the adults had fun. It's a Mult level with and Aquarium in the basement, exhibits in the middle and hand on stem and building areas on the top level. A great place to spend 5-7 hours on a rainy day.
Esperienza positiva: Small but well organized and eclectic museum. My 6 year old really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the local history. The artwork section was especially beautiful too. Neat exhibit on tattoos as well.
Esperienza fantastica: Fun museum. Definitely felt more kid oriented, but you can still have a good time as an adult.
Esperienza fantastica: Surprisingly good for a small museum. There are plenty of adult exhibits balanced with those for kids. My 4 yr old grandson loved the aquarium and mummies and the hands on exhibits. When we left, his first question was "Can we come here again?"
Esperienza fantastica: What a fun and educational place for all! The staff is friendly and knowledgable; the displays are interesting. Definitely a gem in Pittsfield!
Esperienza positiva: Great museum to stop in and visit. Things for all ages. Fun to walk through and explore. Affordable price too.
Esperienza fantastica: Wonderful little museum with quite a broad range of exhibits. There appeared to be some youth programs going on when we were there, but also families just browsing. The featured "tattoo" exhibit was especially interesting, even for those of us lacking any "ink." Definitely worth a couple of hours, or more if you have some curious kids in your party.
Esperienza fantastica: We went to a funny and educational show today starring Captain Nemo. Fun for all ages. Then we visited the Nautilus exhibit. Great fun for all the kids there. I wish we had more time to see everything in the museum.
Esperienza fantastica: Nice museum, perfect for a family trip.
Esperienza fantastica: We have very warm memories of this museum since we used to visit every summer when the kids were little. We went back with two of the kids (now 18 & 21) and the place was just as special, if not a little worse for post-COVID wear. (The aquarium was a little sadder than we recalled.) But the current exhibit about vaccines was excellent and modern, and we liked revisiting the rocks and landscape dioramas. The current exhibition "Big Photos" was true to its name. ;-)
Esperienza fantastica: It's a great place to go with kids!
Esperienza fantastica: Was not expecting the amount of displays and artifacts, it is a very informative and beautiful museum.
Esperienza fantastica: Punches over its weight class. We were surprised how lovely it was - a great way to spend a few hours and support local museums. The local natural history and art were the best part.
Esperienza fantastica: My grandmother took me here when I was a kid and today I got to take my son. It was amazing! The new exhibits we're really interactive and well done and seeing the same collections I did as a child was a wonderful trip down memory lane. Very appropriate for all ages!
Esperienza fantastica: I really liked this museum. It was quaint and had something for everyone, and it had a TON of activities for smaller kids. It seems interesting and fun for all ages
Esperienza positiva: Well thought out neighborhood museum. Good for spending an hour or two with kids. Has little sections across a wide variety of topics - animal bones, dioramas, minerals, mounted animals and birds, an aquarium in the basement, art, activity rooms for kids. I felt the price of $15 per adult was slightly on the higher side given the size of the museum, but the location may be the factor here.
Esperienza fantastica: The aquarium in basement was fish and snakes but very interesting things to see and read up stairs staff is excellent
Esperienza fantastica: What a cool spot. Lots of unique exhibits. So well priced. Aquarium kids can't get enough of. Beautiful artwork and statues.
Esperienza fantastica: We were here while they were doing renovations on the 2nd floor, and will be back in the fall when its done! My kids loved the aquarium, and I was in love with the giant amethyst in the mineral area. I was very appreciative of their covid measures-making reservations, and making sure no one bumped into one another. Having the place to yourself is great! We only saw a few staff members while we were there, and everything appeared very clean. Will be back!
Esperienza fantastica: Great little museum with a bit of everything. Highlights for us were the aquarium downstairs and the mummies upstairs
Esperienza fantastica: A hidden gem. Spent two hours viewing exhibits covering nature, history, innovation. Had the time to actually read the information with each section. Not too many museums have an Egyptian mummy, a letter from George Washington, a plaster mask of the faces of Lincoln and Napoleon.
Esperienza fantastica: Great museum. Lots to see. For covid they are doing scheduled viewings so very safe
