Museu McCormick Bridgehouse e do Rio Chicago

🗣️ Museu McCormick Bridgehouse e do Rio Chicago: Opiniões
Experiência fantástica: Sunday admission still free. Good place to know more about Chicago river history!
Experiência fantástica: We stumbled on the museum while walking along the Riverwalk. It was quick and mostly stairs but it gives you a view of the river and Michigan Ave you rarely get to see. You also get a good amount of Chicago history and a look at what the bridge lift mechanisms. If you need a break from the weather, it's worth a stop.
Experiência fantástica: Only place with a public restroom, bottom of the stairs
Experiência fantástica: Small museum that you can get through in detail within about 45 minutes, but engaging and a fun way to learn about conservation and Chicago's urban history. Was free to enter when we visited.
Experiência positiva: Pretty cool visit. Never knew this was even here. Walking up the bridge tower you feel like you are miles away from downtown Chicago.
Experiência fantástica: Definitely needs to revisit, very cool.
Experiência fantástica: “Splurged” for the $15 guided tour. Called and reserved tour spots ahead of time, but probably did not need to do so. Our tour guide Joe was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly interesting! Tailored the tour to the participants, lots of time for questions, made history and engineering really engaging, and was not rude or anything when non-tour members stopped to listen in as well. Really great underrated Riverwalk attraction. Pictures from inside the museum.
Experiência fantástica: Amazing tour. Chicago history, innovation, and determination on display. Unique views of the river and river walk. Tour guide Joe shared his enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the mechanics. Next trip we will schedule for when the bridge is in motion. Totally worth it!
Experiência fantástica: Little wonderful museum. If you love history this is a great stop for an hour. They kindly had a free day. I’m not sure I would have gone in or noticed it otherwise. The tour guide was excellent.
Experiência positiva: Free admission on July 4th. We enjoyed reading about the history of Chicago and learning more about the bridges. Definitely worth a visit for free, but as someone who isn’t a history buff, I wouldn’t pay to visit.
Experiência fantástica: Awesome place to learn about Chicago bridges and it's free on Sundays!
Experiência fantástica: Wandered in here on a free admission day and enjoyed myself thoroughly. Highly recommend for anyone interested in the history of the Chicago River and curious about the infrastructure surrounding it.
Experiência negativa: Today (Wednesday, 29. May 2024, 15:45) it was closed without any notice on the door. So take care of the opening hours!
Experiência positiva: Cool little museum with some outstanding history. You could easily kill 30 minutes in here and it’d be worth it. The machinery required to lift the bridges is just spectacular, I kinda wish it was lit better. Still, fantastic place. If it’s open, stop in.
Experiência fantástica: Interesting little museum that gives you some insight into the development and reclamation of the river and an up close look at the bridge machinery. A very worthwhile 30 - 40 minutes (if you read everything!)
Experiência fantástica: Wonderful gem of a museum. See the bridge mechanism and 5 floors of the tower full of river and water related history. Most excellent. It is free, so pay it forward and donate a few bucks.
Experiência negativa: Nice try but not enough for a real museum
Experiência fantástica: My favorite sort of museum is the sort that both curates history and IS a piece of living history itself. The Bridgehouse and Chicago River Museum fulfills both of these criteria. As both a history major and lifelong Chicagoan I still learned an enormous amount of things I'd never known before, especially about the ecology of the river. Seeing the gears on the bottom floor is fascinating and the view from the top floor is spectacular. Our tour guide was supremely informative, engaging, and enthusiastic, providing detailed answers to every question we asked. I still wouldn't go swimming in the Chicago River but now I feel safe knowing I won't get toxic waste poisoning if I accidentally fell in. I went while still on crutches from a hip injury, and while the stairs were a bit of a challenge there were plenty of places to sit and rest on each floor of the museum. A great place to bring a friend from out of town and to explore at any time!
Experiência fantástica: Very interesting insight into the history of the chicago River. Fascinating looking at the machinery. Reasonable entry fee for seniors. 5 flights of stairs no elevator so be prepared! Worth the effort!
Experiência positiva: I went there! It wasn’t open and will be open again on May
Experiência positiva: I have walked and driven past this place many times. I never knew that there was a museum inside the control tower.
Experiência positiva: It was free and quick. Nice to see the gear, but it was just that: big gears. A very cool concept of the building and the plaques were informative, but not much in the actual building. Would have liked to see more actual artifacts and less boards. Don't come with high expectations and you will not be disappointed.
Experiência fantástica: This is a nice museum. This bridge house has five floors, with a different theme for each floor. The first floor is home to exhibits that explain how the terrain of the Chicago area was shaped, and the lifts that lift up the DuSable Drawbridge, which was really cool to see. The second floor has exhibits explaining the history of Native Americans in Chicago and the first Europeans arriving to Chicago. The third floor explains what Chicago was like in the 1800s and the construction of bridges across the Chicago River and the beginning of its pollution. The fourth floor had exhibits about the pollution of the Chicago River and what was done dato fix it. The fifth floor has exhibits about how clean the Chicago River is today and information about what the Friends of the Chicago River Organization (which runs the museum) is doing to keep the River clean. I gave this museum five stars because it was very cool to see the lifts beneath the DuSable Bridge along with old bridge operating equipment on the third floor. Considering the price of things in Chicago, the $8 admission fee is a pretty good deal.
Experiência fantástica: My son went for his field trip and loved the experience
Experiência fantástica: Interesting place to explore and learn a bit of history of Chicago.
Experiência fantástica: Stairs Stairs Stairs! Thankfully there are seats on every level. Great mini museum if you need to fill time while waiting. No elevators so not wheelchair friendly or people who have mobility issues. The views are worth the huff and puff. The entrance is on the River walk on the southwest side of the bridge.
Experiência fantástica: I mean why wouldn't you want to see the inside of a Chicago river bridge house? The museum is the bonus. If you are on the Riverwalk and the museum is open you should do this. Just remember that there is no elevator and it's mostly a stairwell kind of thing.
Experiência fantástica: Vertical history at its finest. Take a trip from the stygian depths of the gear room, where the massive counterweight sits poised to descend below the waters of the Chicago river, to 5 stories above. A history of the development of Chicago from water level is delivered via pithy quotes from contemporary visitors to the boggy swamps that were soon supplanted by the developing and drier city reaching for the skies. It's a vertical museum and the space is limited. There are a lot of stairs. The surprising views from the tiny windows throughout are a delight.
Experiência positiva: It’s cheap and quick, but not very exciting to be honest. As you walk through the tower, you see a lack of maintenance. Dust, spider webs, broken exhibits, etc. It seems like whoever is running this museum hasn’t actually walked through it in quite some time. Anyway, get your tickets on Groupon for a discount and only go here if you’re ok with climbing lots of stairs. Wouldn’t really recommend it, but if you’re bored, give it a shot.
Experiência fantástica: Full disclosure: They are a client. But the Bridgehouse museum offers a great opportunity to get off Michigan avenue for a bit, see the architecture and gears of a real bridgehouse museum, and learn about the history of the Chicago River. Good views. Great for kids. Note there are stairs, and no elevator, so be ready for that.
Experiência fantástica: This is a very small museum, but very interesting with views of the actual gears that raise the bridge! If you time your visit right, you'll see all this in action! Bridge lifts are infrequent, but you can generally catch it every Wednesday and Saturday around mid-day during peak Spring and Fall seasons when sailboats are moving to and from the lake. This is a great stop along Chicago's terrific riverwalk promenade!
Experiência fantástica: What a very cool museum! I've walked by here so many time. I recommend talking the time to visit this museum and to take a peek at the gears that move the bridge
Experiência negativa: Closed. Even though the online site said it was open as did the sign on the door. Caused us a long needless walk.
Hello, our website clearly states we are closed as of Nov 1st as does the sign on the door. We reopen on May 14th. Thank you.
Experiência fantástica: Great little museum on the riverwalk. The exhibition is limited but definitely worth the ticket price. Seeing the interior of the bridge and the history of the river is very interesting.
Experiência positiva: Small museum w informative signs and nice views from its upper stories
Experiência positiva: Visited during the Chicago Architecture Open House Weekend. History of the Chicago river creation, WQ pollution, and then cleanup was very interesting. Also really impressive to see the draw bridge works that include motor, gear assemblies, and large reinforced concrete counterweight. Great 360 degree views of the City from the 5th floor.
Experiência fantástica: Sweet, little museum with a lot of heart! A good way to spend a half hour learning about the river and its conservation.
Experiência fantástica: Such a great exhibit. The story of the river’s life is well told and the seeing the bridge mechanism was impressive! Being located right on the River Walk at the Michigan Ave Bridge is so convenient. So nice that it is only $5 admission. Definitely recommend!
Experiência fantástica: It was interesting it was cool that they open a museum like this and it gives a chance to see inside
Experiência fantástica: Nice underrated museum
Experiência fantástica: Super fun tucked away little museum and costs almost nothing to visit!
Experiência positiva: Interesting history of Chicago bridges and nice views from the top floor. It’s reasonably priced but has very limited exhibits. You can probably tour the whole tower in < 20-30 minutes
Experiência fantástica: Really interesting museum. Well worth the visit, especially for a bridge lift.
Experiência fantástica: Really nice little museum But very interesting museum ,an important addition to local history and helps the average Chicagoan understand the importance of the river.
Experiência positiva:
Experiência positiva: Very informative about the history of the Chicago River
Experiência positiva: Interesting museum about the history of the Chicago river, it’s a small exhibition, ~30 mins to compete.
Experiência fantástica: Amazing experience to walk threw the bridge tower and below the the bridge to see how the bridge works. It's free on sundays.
Experiência fantástica: This is a great place to visit to learn about the rivers, swamp land and Lake Michigan and how they influenced the development of Chicago over time, the animal and plants that call the river home, as well as the technology of the many draw bridges.
Experiência fantástica: The museum is free on Sundays and you can learn a lot about how the rivers shaped Chicago into what it is today. There are 5 floors total and the top floor has lots of amazing views. A fun 1-hour detour if you're in the area
Experiência fantástica: Loved it
Experiência fantástica: Really nice little museum, an important addition to local history and helps the average Chicagoan understand the importance of the river.
Experiência fantástica: A unique Chicago experience!
Experiência fantástica: Great tour. Learned a lot about the Chicago bridges and river. Great views from 5th floor. However try to go in the fall so you can see the DuSable Bridge go up and down.
Experiência fantástica: A very small, but very interesting museum. If you've ever found yourself peering around the abutments while walking under one of the many bridges in Chicago, or wondered how they operate, this museum does a great job explaining just that. Take a walk behind/beneath the Michigan Avenue Bridge, as well as a walk up (and back down) one of the bridgehouses to learn how they operate, as well as history of the Chicago bridges, and information on the ecology of the Chicago River.
Experiência fantástica: Loved every moment!
Experiência fantástica: Good!
Experiência fantástica: Beautiful place to visit!
Experiência fantástica: Awesome! So much history about Chicago's water in such a small and unexpected location. It is free to visit during Open House Chicago event.
Experiência fantástica: What an awesome place!
Experiência fantástica: Great museum. You'll learn a lot about the history of the rivers in chicago
Experiência fantástica: Great little museum. Gives great detail of the history on the river. Easy to understand.
Experiência fantástica: Busy, vibrant Chicago area. So much to see and do at and near the Riverwalk!
Experiência fantástica: Museum is right on the river walk. This is very small but good place to see the mechanics of bridges and learn about history of Chicago river, how they turned the direction of the river, what role does river play in City's life and how bridges on that river operate. Museum is free on Sundays and has very well organized exhibition. If one climbs the stairs, will get beautiful view of the streets
Experiência fantástica: Amazing view at this titanic machinery of a city.
Experiência fantástica: Amazing experience to walk threw the bridge tower and below the the bridge to see how the bridge works. It's free on sundays.
Experiência fantástica: Um
Experiência fantástica: Muito interessante
Experiência fantástica: Espectacular
Experiência fantástica: Easy to find.
Cibo buono
Experiência fantástica: Cool
Experiência fantástica: Amazing
Experiência fantástica: Nice Museum
Experiência positiva: Good place for price.
Experiência positiva: Very interesting and information
Experiência positiva: Unique. With a visit to kill a few minutes. Try on a free or discount day. I don't see it as being a good value for the regular price.
Experiência positiva: Great new museum. Nice stop for a short visit.
Experiência positiva: Closed for a private event. I'd even checked the website to see if it was open before heading over.
Hi Brian. We apologize for the inconvenience but we do post all closures on our main page under announcements. Thank you.
Experiência positiva: It's a quick tour but worth it! Learn the history of Chicago from the inside of one of the bridgehouses on the recently revitalized river. Additional packages available and you can even rent the place for a party.
Experiência positiva: Cool little museum if you happen to be passing by – it's very small though, I was through in 30 minutes and read every display. I recommend stopping by on Sundays if you can because that's when entry is free.
Experiência positiva: Chicago is very beautiful. It is better to visit in summer and enjoy city walk. There are many activities to enjoy like visiting to tallest tower..museum etc. Howere look around go little inside for parking your 4 wheeler. One can get it at cheap price . parking near bean or garden is expensive. Parking near tallest tower is cheap.
Experiência positiva: It's a must visit when it is open. Gives a history of the Chicago River and how it has changed over the years. Reflecting on the rivers many, many uses to the surrounding area. It also offers some amazing framed views of the area through it windows.
Experiência fantástica: It was a pleasant find for me. Having visited Chicago so many times I was surprised to not know about it earlier. The museum is small but covers the history of the city which revolve around Chicago river. The Bridges were important part of the city and this museum educates about all the bridges on Chicago river. Sunday Free Entry made the visit more enjoyable for me
Experiência fantástica: What an awesome little museum. I learned so much about Chicago's movable bridges and the Chicago River in such a short amount of time. I loved getting to see the actual guts of the Michigan Ave drawbridge up close. The video they had playing explained what made the design of Chicago's drawbridges unique, which was really interesting. The placards explaining the history of the Chicago River were fascinating, and one of them FINALLY explained how they managed to reverse the flow of the river in a way that made sense to me. And being able to look down over the river and Michigan Ave from the unique vantage point of the top of the tower was really cool. And all of this for $6! Fantastic.
Experiência fantástica: One of the best spots at Mag Mile to view the Skyline. It is surprising how too few people know that there an Whole Museum inside the southwest Bridgehouse ( the one near LondonHouse) . The BridgeHouse Museum gives you a great insight on the history of the city and the Chicago river and also the historic significance of the museum. Also , from the top floor , you get to see one the rarest point of view of the traffic and all those people below.
Experiência fantástica: Very cool little museum. Very clean and friendly staff. Free on Sundays. Be prepared for stairs, it had at least 5 floors.
Experiência fantástica: A very interesting museum, but be prepared for lots of stairs.
Experiência fantástica: Great place on the riverwalk. I work there they have a lot of great things going on down there and its even a museum right next door.
Experiência fantástica: Great place for romance
Experiência fantástica: Pretty cool place to just chill!
Experiência fantástica: Delightful museum just on the corner of Michigan and Wacker. Is a quiet, reflective and informative setting where you learn about the river, and it's part in the growth of Chicago into a world class city. Stop in, you will like what's inside, plus the unique views of the city from within.
Experiência fantástica: You can see the bridge gears moving here! Check their website for dates and times. I participated in the Saturday Breakfast last time I was here. Staff is helpful in answering questions about the history of the Chicago River. Wear comfortable shoes as there are stairs to climb.
Thank you Sumy! We hope you can join us again for a lift this coming season.
Experiência fantástica: Very cool experience. You won't find a cheaper activity in the area. Really fun.
