Experiência fantástica: Absolute national treasure! This museum houses the biggest collection of Catholic art in the United States. Spanning centuries and across the globe, it touches on the universal theme that God is good and Jesus is the bridegroom of the church. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and wonderful. The pipe organ, the Fontanini nativity, the King Louis Phillipe crucifix, the Saint Augustine reliquary…I could go on. It’s worth a trip. I’ve stood in line around the planet to see works of this caliber and they are just here waiting to be seen. Beautiful.

Experiência fantástica: My wife and I visited The Museum of Catholic Art and History in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, November 26, 2022, to see the Christmas Nativity scenes on display. The museum is located on the first floor of The Columbus Foundation building, a historic building in downtown Columbus that is the former home of the first Wendy’s restaurant. We immensely enjoyed the exhibit, but more than that, we came away with a great appreciation for the whole museum. First, only a fraction of the collections at The Museum of Catholic Art and History can be shown due to space limitations. However, it is easily observable that the collections on display are well-curated. The staff at the museum have put time, thought, and effort into showing these collections to the best effect. Second, the religious objects and artifacts on display are relevant to Christian (especially Catholic) visitors and are reverently presented. Third, our tour guide was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and helpful in showing us around the museum. These three factors gave my wife and me a wonderful museum experience. If you are a Catholic Christian living in or visiting the Columbus, Ohio, area, I highly recommend visiting this museum. The value of touring the museum is well worth the price of admission. If you are coming with a large group (more than 4 people), it might be best to call ahead and make sure the museum can accommodate you.

Experiência fantástica: This place is seriously amazing. How is it that we have a museum like this in Columbus, and nobody knows it's here? If you are even remotely interested in Church history, and the history of the diocese... you owe it to yourself to visit.

Experiência fantástica: It is just an amazing place! Brings back lots of memories of childhood in the catholic school and church. So much to learn and the tour guide was awesome. I am going back this weekend to share with my husband who is not catholic.

Experiência fantástica: As a cradle Catholic, this place is amazing! It was supposed to be open but all the staff had Covid. Fortunately the organ tuners were there and they let us in. We did a self tour. Please tell the guy who recommended St. Mary's and the German restaurant that he was spot on!! We thoroughly enjoyed both places!!

Experiência fantástica: Relatively small, basically three rooms, but packed with items. The tour guide made it fantastic! Very knowledgeable about the artifacts, and the history and meaning behind them. Definitely one of Columbus is hidden gems!

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Thanks for the the review! We are glad you enjoyed your visit to the museum. We are looking forward to being in a larger space in the future where we will be able to display our entire collection.

Experiência fantástica: I went here with minimal expectations, but was so pleasantly surprised. I went on a Friday and their art restorer just happened to be there and graciously answered a ton of questions. The guide gave us an expansive tour of the small facility, but was kind, passionate, patient, and very knowledgeable. You could tell she really loved her work and was so passionate about the museum. The museum is a temporary space before they move into a larger space to dissolution their entire collection (I can't wait to revisit!). As a non-Catholic, the museum was so interesting and the guide really patiently explained things. I highly recommend the museum to ANYONE especially nerds of history, religion, or Catholicism.

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Jeffrey, thank you for visiting us. We are so happy to hear that you were able to visit when our art restoration expert, Dave, was here. We appreciate you highlighting that you are not Catholic, which puts you among the majority of our visitors. Just over 70% of our visitors are not Catholic! We are getting closer to finding that larger space. We hope you can stop back and see us during our Nativities at the Museum exhibit, which opens the day after Thanksgiving. Thanks again and God Bless!

Experiência fantástica: Stunning! You must take the tour to truly appreciate the history of the artifacts, but to be in the presence of so many items from the holy land... There really are no words to describe how inspiring these exhibits are. Regardless of your faith, this museum is a must on the list of things to see in Columbus Ohio

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Tori, thank you for leaving such a wonderful review. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and were inspired by the artifacts, especially those from the Holy Land. We hope you come back and see us again. God bless!

Experiência fantástica: Hands down the best museum I have ever been to! Fiancé and I went to visit while we were on vacation and ended up being the only people there. Theresa gave us a tour of the different pieces on display and the history that came with them. She also let us interact with some of the items on display (manuscript replicas). We also bought some hand-made rosaries as our littler reminder of our visit. Learning how to pray it this weekend! Would recommend bringing all of your friends, even those without a Catholic background.

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Sarah, thanks so much for the great review! As you saw, Theresa is very passionate about sharing our Catholic faith and its many riches. We hope you have been making use of the rosary and are seeing the blessings that can come from this powerful devotion. We hope to see you again. God bless!

Experiência fantástica: Amazing collection of Catholic artifacts and relics. This museum is located at what used to be the very first ever Wendy's. They recently moved to the current location and so far only has 10 percent of what was in the old location. Nevertheless, it was interesting to see really old stuff. The whole place can be toured in less than 30 minutes. It was well worth the visit in dowtown Columbus.

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Thanks for the wonderful review, Yuri! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your visit. We hope to see you again. God bless!

Anna Lepper 2 years ago

Experiência fantástica: My mother was visiting from out of town and I thought she might enjoy these Catholic artifacts. We were surprised at how interesting the whole place was even for non-religious folks! Part history, part art museum. The current location (inside the Catholic Foundation) is smaller than the previous site, but they have plans to move to someplace where their full collection can be displayed. Take advantage of the guided tour, they have a lot of insights to share. They are super friendly and let you photograph anything you want and there are even some things you can touch. If you're lucky they might play the organ for you. As of March 2022 they have an art restorer who comes in mid-day on Fridays to fix some of their paintings who you can chat with and ask questions to. Due to the limited display space an hour should be sufficient to see everything, until they move!

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Anna, thanks for bringing your mother for a visit. We are getting some traction on a larger space and hope to have some news in early 2024. We appreciate the kid words and great review. God Bless!

Experiência fantástica: Beautiful artifacts from the Holy Family diocese. It also serves as the Soup kitchen for the homeless. At the lower part of the museum. It was also in the early 70s and 80s the largest bingo hall. In 1890s through 1945? It was a catholic school.

Experiência fantástica: An absolute, rare jewel of Catholicism in Columbus, Ohio. This former Catholic elementary school is a soup kitchen and a Catholic museum with many incredibly pieces of Catholic art, from 400 years old chasubles from the Holy Land, to amazing full functioning gigantic organs that once where in Cathedrals. Absolutely not to miss.

Experiência fantástica: My husband and I visited the Jubilee Museum for the first time recently, and we cannot believe we've waited so long! We've both lived in and near Columbus for most of our lives and had no idea the hidden gem downtown! The collection of artifacts is diverse and so interesting. The tour guide knew so much about just about everything he showed us, and we could tell he had a true interest in the contents of the museum and the history. Best of all, for those with children, much of the place seems to be free of the usual "hands-off" approach of most museums and collections. Within reason, we could handle many artifacts and were invited to do so several times with old books. The Jubilee Museum is certainly a beautiful and wondrous place to stop in, regardless of one's religious leaning.

Abigail Shelton 4 years ago

Experiência fantástica: The reviews about this place are true--it really is a hidden gem. Got a nearly 2-hour tour from the director and it only felt like half an hour. He was very knowledgeable, informative, and easy to talk to. Even after spending so long there, we could easily go back and spend several more hours looking at all the stuff there. There are not only religious items but also items of great historical significance. This photo is of an amethyst owned by Mary, Queen of Scots. Really stunning to see in person. The museum is planning to temporarily close sometime within the next year (as I understand it) for renovations and the addition of a whole new building. Rumor has it our beloved Santa Maria--now gone from the riverfront--will be finding a new home there. You really cannot do any better for free on an afternoon. (One caveat: the building is not ADA compliant. My husband and I were thankfully allowed to bring in our son's stroller, but we had to carry it up and down the stairs ourselves. It's just a regular stroller, so we didn't have any trouble, but it could be an issue for those with mobility issues. I'm sure that the new facilities will be compliant, so some may wish to wait until then to visit.)

The Museum of Catholic Art and History

Thank you for the detailed and helpful review, Abigail! We hope you'll visit again soon!

Experiência fantástica: Amazing amassing of religious artifacts from around the world collected and displayed here!!!! Currently, the Vatican created from Legos is on display, as well as other miniature models of other materials... well worth the visit. Christmas season finds HUNDREDS of Nativities of all sizes imaginable displayed throughout the museum. Travel back in time to when all nuns wore habits, view Chaplain attire and items to serve soldiers during wars (they laid THEIR lives down, too), also view affects from African regions as well as the Jesus/ Jewish heritage.

Experiência fantástica: The Jubilee Museum is filled with interesting artifacts of Catholic history, art, traditions, and culture that span centuries of time. The entrance is a bit hard to find, but completely worth it once you have (ring the doorbell at the top of the metal stairs and someone will let you in). The staff are very helpful and vested in the great work that they do. If you are really lucky, Shawn might play the pipe organ for you.
