Experiência fantástica: Great free museum and while the space is not the largest, there is a ton of content spread throughout a few distinct exhibitions. A little bit far away from the light rail station and it happened to be pouring heavy rain that day and the parking lot flooded which made walking across the partially flooded parking lot quite uncomfortable. Staff is friendly and great educational experience.

Experiência fantástica: Incredible gem. The building itself is spectacular. You will gawk in awe at the Ethiopian temple inspired dome and flooring. It’s absolutely breathtaking. Once you pick your jaw back up you’ll promptly drop it again once you see the art. My personal favorites from this visit were the gorgeous folk quilts and the stunning photos of East Texas. The history exhibits are equal parts informative, inspiring and heartbreaking. You’ll definitely get a little moist under the eyelids listening to and reading the experiences they’ve gathered. The lady they have doing guest services is so helpful and a treat to have a conversation with. Very welcoming. I learned so much and had a very nice afternoon there. I would come back even if they charged admission but the fact that something so cool is free to the public is a blessing. Also, weird perk, but they have the coldest water fountains in Fair Park. (Also free) Great place!

Experiência positiva: What it lacks in interactive experiences, it gains with having orators to tell the stories of times of old. They bring the stories to life with first hand accounts. The artwork is breathtaking. My favorite part was reading the biographies of former slaves.

Experiência positiva: It was a great experience to learn about the history of black folks in Dallas. Not just images but interviews with some locals that have lived in the area & involved with keeping the story alive. I took my 2 teenage children & they enjoyed ut as well. I can appreciate the fact that admission is free, that gives us all an opportunity to learn about part of our history.

Experiência fantástica: It is absolutely fascinating. The history of African Americans in Dallas from so many different perspectives made the visit both interesting and very educational. School field trips should be led here and the Holocaust and Human Rights Museum to give children of all ages a glimpse into the lives of different cultures that might make them more accepting of others.

Experiência fantástica: I went on Juneteenth, which was a perfect day to reflect on the past while looking forward to the future. The facility, albeit modest, is quite spectacular. The installations are powerful, poignant, and inspirational. Several photographs reduced me to tears. Overall, regardless of ethnicity, everyone should see this work of art.

Free entry, so I try to make a donation on my way out and buy a little something from the gift shop. No food or drink is allowed and lastly, don't touch the art or any other objects. Experiência fantástica: Nice museum with exhibits that include African American art, music, literary, and culture. This location has a level dedicated to education that includes personal libraries, classrooms, and a theater. When I visited, a 45-50 min film showed about the African diaspora.

Experiência positiva: This is an amazing museum. All African Americans should visit and take time out to read the articles they have in each section. I went on Saturday the 9th and they had just opened a new exhibit that day. It was small but nice and clean. The other exhibits were more in depth and informative. They had an event going on outside as well which was nice. They had activities for children as well. The gift shop is beautiful. I took a picture in front of the “Black Queens” grass wall and I Waldo purchased a mug, notebook and zip pouch. I will be back and hopefully there will be another event going on when I visit again. The gentleman at the entrance was very informative and professional as well. The restrooms need a lot of work as far as cleaning and being kept up.

Experiência fantástica: Went for New Organization Texh 4 Hero. Enjoy music, first-time hearing band Joyce Spencer, which I will now follow. My only disappointment is with parking staff, changing for parking and forcing parking in the wrong area.

The staff welcomed us and gave us a quick introduction about the museum. No drinks or food allowed , has an elevator if needing . And parking can be done just outside for free but do not park at special events parking area . Rest enjoy , the average time u can spend is 2 hrs .

We have so much history in Dallas not reflected in this museum. The staff are rude and expect donations which really ruins the experience.

Experiência negativa: One of the saddest representations of a museum I've ever experienced. We arrived within 30min of the museum closing, and we're greeted stating they were setting up for an event. We were still allowed to stroll to the 2nd floor museum area. It was literally underwhelming. The only thing that was remotely worth it to see was the display about Freedman cemetery. They put more care into the event they were hosting than the museum itself. This should be called an event hall. Don't waste your time.

The Harriet Tubman Museum in Macon, Georgia, does more to chronicle African American history than what was shown in Dallas, which is far larger City

Experiência negativa: The security is so, so RUDE. Post the rules! Black males prove over and over that they are trash even when they are old. It's embarrasssing! You can't even celebrate your own culture in peace. The exhibits primarily represented Black men and not women. Black women are EVERYTHING and the first on the currency ahead of BM for a reason. Disappointed. Going to the AA museum in DC, cause this is not it.

Experiência positiva: Nice cool place. Awesome for sharing information on the original Melanated native African peoples to this american land. Some areas were closed off or unavailable to view or visit during our visit. This place could definitely use more interactive displays and more user friendly features. Also maybe have some live music and or prerecorded tunes playing to exhibit different genres and musical styles created by the African American culture who are the innovators of music itself. Maybe even offer some guided tours in addition to the self-guided process. One other important point is please ensure all exhibits, pictures, displays, and artwork etc. at an African American museum only features and shows African American historical figures, their work and achievements. It is not necessary to highlight nor include other cultures in these exhibits because that is not what visitors have come to see if we are visiting an African American museum then we want to see African Americans only! Please be mindful of this when setting up and preparing items for exhibit or even hanging pictures on display for visitors to view. There is enough African American contributions to society that will give you content and material to display for the culture that there is no need to have to utilize another culture in these exhibits. Other cultures and nationalities will be highlighted at their perspective historical museums already by which we can see them and there contributions to history when we choose to visit those museums. And please know other cultural museums do not exhibit not display African Americans whatsoever in there cultural observations. I hope this important information is able to make it to this museums managing directing department that is able to assist with the implementation of these very important updates and changes. Experiência negativa: I thought this place would have something on the original black peoples before this continent was invaded, that is our history that lead into what we now see and experience today… I understand showing local black citizens making history. Slavery is not the beginning and more of who we are from the past should be studied and displayed. The truth not what somebody gave you to show and believe.

It was so wonderful being able to see pictures, read about, watch videos, and view art about the right history of people of the African diaspora right here in Dallas, Texas. I hope they expand because I know there is so much more to be told but given that this museum is free - I was blown away. I even got some artisan and cultural gifts for my family in their bookstore.

However, the visit there is free unlike many other museums. Keeping in mind, that unless they charge or are receiving nice donations they will have limited displays. I think they've done well.
