Experiência positiva: Het is momenteel wel écht moderne kunst. Jeff Cowen en Awoiska van der Molen gebruiken lobbige klassieke gelatinezilverdruk en koolstof foto technieken, in het groot. Vaak overheen gekliederd met verf. Moet je van houden. Dit komt voort uit het feit dat tegenwoordig iedereen met zo’n bijna perfect foto kistje rondloopt. Dus de kunst moet dan maar wat anders doen. Ben ik die kunst kenner die hier echt van geniet? Nee. Het gebouw is mooi. Kijk af en toe even naar het plafond en schroom niet om even op de grond of de bankjes te gaan zitten om die ‘trompe-l'oeil’ schilderingen te bewonderen. Vergeet ook de tuin de bibliotheek zalen onderaan niet. Voor de mensen met zere knieën, er lijkt ook een lift te zijn. Denk dan twee keer omhoog, een keer tegen de richting naar beneden, en nog een keer met de richting mee. Ben jij iemand die luid op blote voeten door het museum banjert om te mopperen dat dit geen kunst is, en het zich geen museum mag noemen. Dan is dit niet voor jou

Experiência positiva: Het pand is niet echt gebouwd om duidelijke tentoonstellingen te presenteren. Delen van tentoonstellingen zijn verspreid tussen gangen en ruimtes. Verder mag er wat mij betreft wat meer context worden gegeven bij de presentaties. Wellicht interessant voor de die-hard of ervaren fotografiekunst bezoeker, maar in vergelijking met FOAM vind ik dit museum vele minder leuk.

Experiência fantástica: When went to see the work of Samuel Fosso which was amazing! The only thing was the lightning Huis Marseille. It could have been better you saw a lot of reflections on the pictures.

Experiência positiva: The current exhibition are for sure worth seeing, but the Huis Marseille building itself is breathtaking. The ceiling, the backyard, the kitchen and it's library on the ground floor. Go with enough time to sit for a while in the yard (or in any of the house corners) and listen to the silence while in the middle of the city.

Experiência fantástica: Located within the "9 Streets" area, Huis Marseilles on Keizergracht canal consists of two monumental 17th century canals houses which together form the city's oldest photography museum. It was also the first museum of its kind in the Netherlands when it opened its doors in 1999. The museum offers a superb collection ever changing photographs from outstanding local and international photographers which are displayed across 14 exhibition areas. There is normally a new collection every 3 months. Huis Marseilles also has regular showings from its own collection of contemporary photography. The museum is worth a visit simply to admire the glorious merchant houses dating back to 1665 and retaining many of the original features. The garden at the rear is a virtual oasis of peace. There is a small garden house which is also an exhibition area. The library and book shop are also worth a visit. The original building owes its name to a plaque still in existence at the front which was erected by the original owner who arrived at the city by boat from Marseilles and went on to accumulate his riches.

Experiência fantástica: A wonderful museum of photography, with carefully selected exhibitions. Currently they have an exhibition consisting of works of 4 artists focusing on the beauty and the pain in the world. A big plus is that the artists are very diverse and coming from different cultural and economical backgrounds. The building itself is beautiful, and makes the experience even more amazing- a lovely surprise is a little garden with views of Amsterdam architecture, and there is also an extra small building for exhibitions. They also have a small but lovely library downstairs, where you can browse through photography albums. Definitely worth a visit, one of the best museum in Amsterdam:)

Experiência positiva: A magnificent 17th century building with a garden and big display rooms with a few photographs on the wall. The quality of the photos are quite dependent on the photographer and the beholder. The photos of Luc Delahay are currently on display until May 2022. We were really disappoined and felt the photos lacked luster and presence. The photos from Japanese photographers were interesting, however, there were very few works on display . I am uncertain if the price is worth visiting the museum. There are better museums in the Amsterdam area, like the Museum van Loon and the Oude Kerk at the Dam, which has a yearly world press photo exhibition that is more interesting. I can't recommend this museum... unless you happen to like the photographer that is currently being shown.

All rooms are located on the different floors in the houses, connected by small staircases (I believe there's an elevator too. Nice exhibitions. Not overloaded with visitors, which is good.

Experiência fantástica: Visited this museum late August and really enjoyed how they set up every space. The whole building and gardens are very authentic Amsterdam which is reason enough for a visit. It surprised me that the exhibition went beyond just photography.

Check what’s on and look up the artist before going as there is no permanent collection. The old house is also amazing on its own with the beautiful design and the cascading trees outside the window. Don’t miss details like the glass chandeliers

It’s a stone’s throw from Amsterdam’s other renowned photography gallery, Foam, and given a choice I’d always head to Huis Marseilles. Sitting around the corner from busy shopping street Leidsestraat, it offers a mixture of contemporary and classic photography from the Netherlands and beyond.

Experiência fantástica: This museum was one of my favourite museums in Amsterdam. It is based in a traditional Dutch canal house and hast a very fascinating exhibit that would take you back and tell you all about it. They even offer €1 coins for lockers to put your bags and belongings in.

Experiência fantástica: Nicely restored house at one of the most famous canals in Amsterdam where you'll find exhibitions of Photography Art. We visited an Exposition on Photography and Fashion and enjoyed the high quality of the pictures as well as the way they were exposes. It's not crowded by tourist and you can take all the time in the world to enjoy this place.

Well worth a visit! Take your camera and be prepared to climb a lot of stairs - there are a lot of different levels, nooks and crannies to explore.
