Experiência fantástica: Fantastic, solid, old-school museum of everything. This one seems to have missed out on some of the trends... It is not interactive, you are not forced to use your phone, it was not redesigned to appeal to 5 year olds, it did not get a big, glossy, coorporate makeover and you are expected to use your brain and have some basic knowledge. The linoleum is as old as the Egyptian mummies and it even has that stuffy smell. But the collection is amazing, room after room of some of the most beautiful and interesting things humankind has created. It covers the whole world except for most of Africa, as there is a seperate museum for that in Tervuren. There is the endearing cabinet of hearts, and beautifully presented art nouveau and art deco collections. The galleries with Merovingian and Mosan art are personal favourites of mine because these historic periods are so underrepresented elsewhere and they have some of the best stuff. But unfortunately, I was unable to find the stairs that lead there this time around because signage is barely there. You want to know more about that one thing you saw? too bad, the collection is not online. You may have to read a book! It is just fine as it is. I hope it does not change too much; apart from the actually quite nice shop the museum seems to have escaped commercialization and that is refreshing these days. Though a bit more information online about the collections would be welcome. Also, it would be nice if there was something to chain your bicycle to.

Experiência fantástica: Al van toen ik kind was kom ik hier. Zowel hun vaste expo's als hun tijdelijke zijn steeds van top kwaliteit. Het is het museum dat mij door heen mijn leven lang een fascinatie heeft gegeven voor geschiedenis. Ik kan het dan ook alleen maar ten sterkste aanraden voor jong en oud. Je kan makkelijk een dag verliezen in zijn prachtige vertrekken vol met de misteries van ver vervlogen tijden.

Experiência positiva: First off, the collection is fantastic - honestly five star stuff. It all REALLY needs to be seen by more people: we had many of the rooms to ourselves when we visited on a weekend. Why? The entrance is far from evident, hidden as it is behind the museum arc, and few exhibits with English labeling or information has little forgiveness for its international visitors. We love museums, and history, and had enough context to get insight from the exhibits alone. However, this broad and deep collection has stories to tell.

Experiência positiva: Quite large, despite parts being closed I spent 4 hours there and did not visit everything that was open. Contains exhibits from an interesting mix of cultures. Not all exhibition texts are in English. Understandable when they have to include French and Dutch, but something you should be aware of. No audio guides from what I understood, but there were a few signs left from when they used to have it. I really liked the section on Egypt. It told a chronological story of Egypt and had interesting objects. At its best the museum had objects organized logically and gave relevant information throught texts. A map with a suggested path would be apprectiated though. At its worst, like in the Roman section, it had a large, pretty empty space with various assorted objects. Even someone interested in history can find it difficult to be excited by a random assortment of ancient objects, and at times the museum could give that feel. (Not everything was bad in the Roman section, there was a large model of ancient Rome.) In the medieval sections there were noisy works ongoing when I visited, but they were not noticeable in the sections on ancient history where I spent most time. The restaurant was nice, could have better selection of vegetarian options.

Experiência fantástica: Een regenachtige dag in Brussel is een perfecte dag om hier te bezoeken - neem de tijd, dwaal er doorheen en bewonder deze enorme collectie - een must see die de tijd en moeite waard is om te bezoeken. Het was leuk om vanuit het toeristische centrum van de stad de heuvel op te lopen door verschillende wijken in zijstraten, zelfs in de regen.

Experiência fantástica: This is one of my favorite spots in the city. The collection of this is insane, and their temporary exhibitions never disappoint. I recently went to see Josef Hoffmann's expo and it was close to perfect. I am obsessed with him, his architecture, and the mystery of the Palace Stoclet, so this was music and an exhibition for me. Amazing curation and overall experience that really celebrates and honors the craftsmanship of architecture, decorative arts, restoration, and research. Hope to see the Palace in person someday!

Experiência negativa: De collectie en het gebouw zijn prachtig echter is de toegankelijkheid zeer slecht. Ik had dit niet verwacht in zo'n groot museum in Brussel. 1. De rolstoel ingang staat niet duidelijk aangegeven. Daarnaast is de deur erg smal. Ik kon er net doorheen maar iemand met een wat bredere rolstoel of een scootmobiel kan niet door deze deur heen. Ook was er geen bel aanwezig. Ik moest een telefoonnummer bellen waar ik vervolgens erg onvriendelijk te woord werd gestaan. Het eerste wat mij werd gezegd was dat er geen honden mee naar binnen mochten. Dit, terwijl deze man mij nog helemaal niet had gezien en ik dus ook geen hond bij me had. Maar mocht iemand komen met een hulphond, dan kan je dus geweigerd worden. Na ongeveer vijf minuten wachten kwam iemand de deur opendoen. Je komt dan terecht in het goederen gedeelte. 2. Enige wegwijzering was niet aanwezig. We hebben een aantal collecties niet kunnen vinden. Ook was het heel lastig om de rolstoel toegankelijke weg te vinden. Op de website stond dat het hele museum "easily accessible" is maar dat is gewoon echt niet zo. Zo moest je voor de lift steeds iemand van personeel zoeken die bijna nergens te vinden zijn. En je moet de lift erg vaak gebruiken. Het personeel dat er was, was niet erg vriendelijk en velen spraken alleen Frans waardoor de communicatie erg moeilijk verliep. Het museum heeft een mooie collectie en het is daarom jammer dat de toegankelijkheid zo slecht is. Het zou fijner zijn voor iedereen als hier eens goed naar gekeken wordt. Het personeel vond het maar lastig dat ik er was met een rolstoel en ik raakte soms gefrustreerd omdat ik een deel van de collectie niet kon vinden en door de onvriendelijke toon.

Experiência fantástica: Best museum in Brussels. 4 levels you need at least 3/4 hours to explore it all. Free wifi and toilets and seating on every floor. Amazing history of Mexico, Egypt, Rome, China, etc. I also enjoyed the museum of Islamic art as well.

Access is to the right of the building (don't confuse with autoworld) It's generally very nice but i would recommend starting with the left side of the museum through the gift shop. (Art of the other parts of the world) The right part of the museum (european art, mostly christian art) is nice but gets a bit repetitive

Experiência positiva: Hele goede collecties die erg de moeite waard zijn. Het gebouw zelf is zeer wisselend. Sommige delen zijn goed gerenoveerd, andere delen zijn achterstallig en vies. Vreemd genoeg is hier geen café/restaurant waar je even kan uitblazen.

Experiência fantástica: Mijn absoluut favoriete museum van Brussel met een collectie waar je drie dagen voor nodig hebt om ze ten gronde te ontdekken. Echt een museum waar je de hele wereld ontdekt, van archeologie uit België tot prachtige Griekse vazen, Egyptische mummies en wonderlijke art nouveau.

Experiência positiva: een wat te weinig bekend museum: De vaste collectie van het museum is al sterk de moeite (en een grondig bezoek vraagt al snel een paar uur tijd), maar de tentoonstellingen die nu liepen waren op zich ook de moeite waard ! Een museumpas is aangewezen, want je moet afzonderlijke tickets kopen voor het bezoek aan de vaste collectie en de tijdenlijke tentoonstellingen, en dat wordt al snel duur (met de museumpas is het gratis en je hier al de nodige tickets per dag bekomen, ook als dat er dan 2 of 3 zijn)

Experiência positiva: Er is heel wat te zien in het Museum. Erg jammer dat het restaurant dicht is (in verband met renovatie). Je had anders namelijk tussendoor even wat koffie kunnen drinken. Voor de rest van de kunst komen wij zeker nog wel eens terug.

Experiência negativa: Afwezig onthaalpersoneel hoewel uur voor sluitingstijd aanwezig samen met nog andere bezoekers. Ik kon dus geen toegangsticket meer verkrijgen en aanwezige medewerkers allesbehalve behulpzaam.

From Egyptian to Pre-Colombian to Belgian Art Nouveau, there’s a bit of everything in here. The museum is quite large and its temporary exhibitions are always noteworthy.

Experiência fantástica: We travelled back in time during our visit to this museum. It is very well organized. Keep in mind that you need around 3 to four hours to visit all different sections since the museum is big and there is a lot to see. We ended our visit by going to the roof to see the amazing view of Brussels. You can also combine your visit with other two neighboring museums and get a discounted price for all three but we didn’t have the time to do so. The museum also offers free lockers. The only missing element is the audio. It needs to be reintroduced for a wholesome experience.

Experiência fantástica: What a collection... First of all: one visit is absolutely not enough! You can see almost everything in one visit but after 2 hours exploring you will lose your attention and it gets ineffective. The museum has collected thousands of exhibits from all possible eras and civilizations. Some of them are very impressive. All you need is patience and strong legs. And be careful, you risk missing entire sectors if you don't peek everywhere! Enjoy

Experiência fantástica: I am always happy to visit différent exibitions in this museum, for example about Egyptian culture and history. Surely you will appreciate precious discoveries, friendly staff, beautiful park surrounding museum and easy access thanks to public transport and parking.

Experiência positiva: As an Archaeology student, I hate giving museums low ratings as I believe everyone should go to them and attend them but the Art & History museum unfortunately needs work. I do recommend people still go as there were lots of cool objects but if you only have a few days in Brussels, spend your time elsewhere. Museum Organisation: The organisation of the museum was unfortunately poor. I believe this could be very easily corrected which in my opinion would skyrocket the museum to a 5 star. If the museum would like more communication on this I would happily discuss my ideas if they reached out. Firstly, I felt so lost there were no maps (if there were I couldn't find them) and the sign posts were few and far between. I had no idea which exhibits were where and how to find them. The museum was also so empty which is sometimes nice but there were hardly any staff. The only staff we saw were people checking tickets on entry. This museum would greatly benefit from having staff scattered around in exhibits that you could ask questions to or ask for directions, without the museum just feels soulless. Also the signage was only in Dutch and French. I know very limited Dutch and even less French so didn't feel like I could properly engage with the items. I was even using Google translate to translate signs into English so I could learn more. I did not know the museum was only in Dutch and French when I decided to visit so this was a shock once I walked into the first exhibition. This would take a bit of time to obviously add but would make it so much more accessible for tourists or once again making an purchasable booklet (with a map)which at least discusses the highlights in English, I would easily have paid €5 for a souvenir guidebook. Artefacts and Display: I hate how bad the organisation was as it really has disappointed me as this museum has AMAZING POTENTIAL. The range of artefacts they have spanning so much of time is sensational. Some exhibits are amazingly put together and if it had better accessibility (maps and language) it would easily be a perfect exhibit. I particularly enjoyed how the prehistory section had replica models as they were so immersive. I also appreciated the portrayal of human remains in the basement section with them being in situ replica with their original findings. While it is a difficult topic to address if museums should show human remains this is definitely a good way of doing so and is easily avoidable if people don't want to see skeletons (however maybe have a warning sign). No exhibition really stood out as being bad however as mentioned the language issues being resolved would greatly increase the accessibility and some were easily better than others, the museum needs to be more cohesive. Also unfortunately some exhibits were closed due to renovations which I do not feel were adequately informed about on the website. Location: The location is pretty cool being next to the amazing Arc and the building itself is amazing. However, it is a bit of a trek from the centre but the underground is relatively easy to navigate so don't let it put you off it out want to visit! Pricing: I paid a student price of €4 which is good value for money and the €10 standard entry is pretty decent for a museum. I would have probably felt annoyed paying anymore than I did due to my inability to fully engage. Atmosphere: It was only about 20 degrees when we visited and not overly sunny but wow was it warm in there. The museum could greatly benefit from some form of ventilation. Conclusion: I obviously had a lot of thoughts about this museum which I needed to share as I think they will benefit from these points. Basically a 5 star museum trapped in a 3 star mid rating by only itself.

Experiência fantástica: Top! Super expo van Jozef Hoffmann. Echt de moeite waard. Een man die zo'n beetje alles kon. Architect, maar ook servies, kleren, de gewone dingen des levens. De expo zat heel goed in elkaar. Chronologisch. Ik ga zeker nog is kijken voor ze afloopt in April volgend jaar. Echt van genoten.

Experiência fantástica: Das museum ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und durch Umbauten nicht sehr übersichtlich, aber wenn man darüber hinwegschaut, eröffnet sich für die Besucher'innen ein Kaleidoskop von wunderschönen, interessanten Objekten und Kunstwerken. Und dies von der Prähistorie bis zum Jugendstil. Es gibt soviel zu entdecken, da reicht ein Besuch nicht.

Experiência fantástica: Great experience, I have visited the permanent collections, the temporary one and been present at a few conferences/workshops. It's a quiet and very inspiring place in an exceptional setting. Collections are well arranged inside this historic building and the museum offers a large selection of themes who will satisfy younger and older visitors. Can't wait to come back!

Experiência fantástica: Expeditie Egypte is een interessante tentoonstelling. Jammer dat er in het MKG nog steeds geen cafetaria is of een audiofoon. Om sommige teksten te kunnen lezen moet je letterlijk door de knieën! Wie verzint zoiets???

Experiência positiva: Een dik uur gereden....om dan te horen dat je niet binnen mag zonder een reservatie. De website vermeldde dit niet. Tickets konden ook ter plaatse gekocht worden volgens de site. Er was ook geen digitaal alternatief....tip

Experiência positiva: Voor ons een ontdekking. Dit is een kant van Brussel waar we niet vaak komen. Mooi ook om te weten dat dit museum meer dan 7000 japanse prenten herbergt. De Shin Hanga expo is meer dan de moeite waard.

Experiência negativa: Wanted to see the Shin Hanga exhibition. Went there on a national holiday - a day when people have the time for a museum - lots of people had the same idea - the museum was closed. Went there on the last day - the expo was sold out. What was strange though, there was no queue, just a few people in the foyer .... could it be that this is just another example of Bruxellian bureaucracy and laziness?

Experiência positiva: This is a huge museum with vast collection of historical artifacts. It took me 2 visits, each of 2-3 hrs to cover the entire museum. The only problem is, there are no English descriptions.

Experiência positiva: Mooie tentoonstelling "Shin Hanga", echt de moeite! (loopt nog tot 15.01.23). Verzorgde opstellling en belichting. Jammer genoeg is het museumrestaurant voor "staff only". Aan vernieuwing toe? (voorbeelden van zeer goed verzorgde restaurants van andere musea in binnen- en buitenland genoeg ...)

Experiência fantástica: Oude tijden... restauratoren weken uitstekend!

Experiência positiva: Mooie tentoontstelling (Shin Hanga), maar wat is de aanpak van toegang, ticketverkoop enz ouderwets. We zijn niet meer in de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw. Een betere aanduiding van de ingang mét voorafgekocht ticket dringt zich op. Evenals een scheiding van de rij wachtend tussen mensen met en mensen zonder ticket. Eén persoon aan de ticketbalie op zaterdag is ook niet echt een goed keuze. De directie en het management van dit museum zouden best een kijken bij hun moderne collega's hou je dit goed aanpakt.

Experiência positiva: Dit museum beschikt over een prachtige collectie maar wordt slecht beheerd. Geen online kaart, geen duidelijke bewegwijzering, zalen die jaren gesloten zijn, cafetaria gesloten sinds Corona, slecht georganiseerd onthaal. Het lijkt of dit museum al een tijdje geen betrokken directeur meer heeft.

Experiência fantástica: Japanese tekeningen expo is een omweg waard

Experiência fantástica: Een leuke namiddag samen met ons moeder die er werkt en binnenkort op pensioen gaat . Zelf heb ik er vacantie job gedaan en vond het heel leuk. Mooie zalen en mooie stukken te bezichtigen. Momenteel loopt er een expo die wel de moeite waard is om te gaan bezichtigen.

Experiência positiva: Mooie locatie, vriendelijk personeel, prachtige tentoonstelling met vele Japanse prenten.

Experiência fantástica: Enorme collectie. Museum heeft een renovatie nodig die er, gelukkig, de komende jaren aankomt. Maar zeker een aanrader!

Experiência fantástica: Enorme collecties van verschillende tijdperken en plaatsen voor een zachte mooie prijs. Je kan er uren vertoeven tussen de Egyptische, Griekse en Romeinse kunst. Ook Azië en Amerika komen aan bod met hun rijke, soms vergeten cultuur. En dat is maar 1 kant van het museum. Aan de andere kant is de Europese geschiedenis vanuit de oudheid tot middeleeuwen en zelfs wat dichter op de tijdlijn aan bod. Prachtig in het oude gebouw. De momenteel lopende tijdelijke tentoonstelling expeditie Egypte maakt het zo veel meer de moeite om naar brussel te gaan. Je kan er makkelijk een halve dag in verdwalen en nog niet alles gezien hebben in dit museum

Experiência fantástica: Ik ben hier met 12 studenten van het 4e jaar van de middelbare Steinerschool op bezoek geweest. Wat mijn studenten tof vinden is dat het museum veel meer dan schilderijen toont. Je kan er mooi fier worden over de vele dingen waarin wij Belgen, Brusselaars en Vlamingen ooit wereldleiders waren waaronder houtsnijwerk en wandtapijten. Persoonlijk val ik ook voor de verzameling precisie meetinstrumenten.

De glazen van veel kaders zijn smerig, in combinatie met de donkere ruimte en schaarse verlichting zie je vanuit sommige hoeken vooral de vieze vegen op het glas ipv het kunstwerk erachter.
