Experiência fantástica: I had a great time at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum! I loved having the opportunity to see work created by Elizabeth Talford Scott and other artists who create work that tells a story using quilts and other materials! I also enjoyed seeing artwork created by high school students in the area!

Experiência fantástica: Black, Woman, Genius exhibit is one of the best I've ever seen! Such a beautiful, unique, and spiritual space full of art you will not see just anywhere. Special shoutout to Auntie/Ms. Diane working there! She made the experience complete with her kindness and knowledge of all of the pieces in there! Will definitely return anytime I'm back in the city!!

Experiência positiva: Museum with many accomplishments and art works depicting journey of Maryland's African-American community. Both permanent and rotating galleries. Striking building at downtown gateway, so easy to get to by vehicle or mass transit.

RandThrockM 6 months ago

Experiência positiva: The event we attended was nice but the food was not good at all. Roast beef was the worst I've ever had. No gravy or rolls with the meal. Chicken was manageable, but the rice was just as bad with the roast beef. No desert or option to have a desert. Also, during the event presentation, there were a lot of problems with the audio/speakers. The potential is there due to the nice setup but definitely needs a little work for future events.

Experiência positiva: Probably one of the most underrated venues in the area. Take your time and embrace the local history and cultural ambiance. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop. Dinged one star not for the venue, but for patrons that might not be aware of everyone trying to enjoy exhibits in the same visit

Experiência positiva: I visited this museum when it first opened. It has definitely improved. I really loved some of the new pieces that included the synthetic hair braided sculptures. They were really cool. It was nice learning about some people in African American history that we don't hear about often. I did feel like for the price of $12 per adult was a little expensive.

Experiência fantástica: Wonderful experience and I think Ms. Dianna who waa securing the second floor today should get a raise. Experiência fantástica: This is a great place both for visiting as part of learning about Baltimore, Maryland, and American history and a great place for hosting your event. I attended the 5th Afros and Audio Podcast Festival here, and what a magnificent choice of a venue it was for hosting such an event. It was spacious, well lit, secure, sound acoustics on point, and so much more. My only sadness was that I forgot to get a t-shirt from the store before I left (only remembered on my way home )! I highly recommend visiting, especially if you're coming to Baltimore for more than a day

Experiência negativa: During a family vacation to Baltimore to visit extended family members, we were racially profiled by an employee of this museum. Note, every member of my family that was there is white. So, touring Baltimore, we decided to visit this museum. The small designated parking lot was just behind the museum, where we parked our rental car. As we proceeded from the parking lot to the building, a black security employee stopped us and told us to remove our car from their parking lot or he'd have the car towed. He assumed because we were white, had no intention of visiting the museum and so evidently we were illegally parking. Needless to say, we didn't waste our time in your museum after that incident. Thanks Baltimore, for showing us prejudice against whites is alive and well in your city.

Experiência fantástica: My boyfriend & I took a weekend roadtrip to Baltimore and visited the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. Wow. Beautiful museum, inspiring, tons of history & information. There was also a choir/concert as a special event and we were grateful to catch it. The people were friendly and pleasant and very helpful. We planned to stay for one hour but it turned into three hours. There was so much to learn. I was particularly fascinated by the history of the Black Marylanders, the experiences they went through. We plan to go back because there is alot more to learn. Overall, just an amazing trip and inspiring visit. Loved it.

Experiência fantástica: Really enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend public attendance and support. We went over the weekend. It wasn't crowded, plenty of room to walk about. Lots to see and learn. There's history all around the area. If you're in Baltimore, you should definitely go.

Experiência positiva: The museum is OK. A lot of interesting content, just not as much as I expected. A lack of artefacts and original content, so the museum is mostly reading posters and watching some videos. So if you know a lot of American History already, you might not learn much. If you are able, I think the extra effort is worth it to instead travel to the African American History Museum in D.C.

Experiência fantástica: I visited the Reginald F. Lewis Museum yesterday with my summer camp. It was so nice inside the museum. The museum had set up two amazing activities for the camp students to participate in at the museum. The first activity was scavenger hunt for different artifacts in the museum. The second activity was an art project that the students got to take home with them when they were finished. My students had a wonderful time. I will definitely be returning to the RFL museum.

Experiência fantástica: I've set up many ice sculptures here for events and all I can say is, wow. An amazing Baltimore based museum, with a wonderful event space located on the second floor. Experiência positiva: Very nice museum. Saw the newly added Frederick Douglas exhibit. My girlfriend who is from the area, said it was not there on her last visit so we considered it newly added. This museum gives you a lot of black history about Baltimore and Maryland as a whole. 2 spacious floors filled with stories and history of African American life. Worth a visit.

Highly recommend that everyone visit, especially people of color who want to learn more about their history.

Experiência fantástica: They pack a lot of history and culture in what feels like such a tight space. Love all the Maryland specific artifacts. Some of the history is hard to see (slave chains) but needed. Some of the pieces (Benjamin Banneker's letter to Thomas Jefferson) made me beam with pride. Great place to visit especially during Black History month. One the first weekend of the month use your Bank of America card and get in for free.

Experiência fantástica: This is a lovely museum. Amazing location (close to public transit- shot tower stop for metro and Locallink Navy bus stops) with so much thorough information about the role of black people in Maryland (3rd floor permanent exhibit). I came during on of their free events on the weekend and I was definitely impressed. I saw their Afrofuturism exhibit and the Imaginarium exhibit on the ground floor. I love the uniqueness of the Imaginarium exhibit, it was great if you want to express your opinions or if your a family or even a single person. My only downside is that the Afrofuturism exhibit was very disappointing. Did it have beautiful black art, yes, Afrofuturist? No. It didn’t fit the definition of Afrofuturism at all. It wasn’t experimental, or dealing with science technology black people and the future. Not at all what I would imagine for afrofuturism. Maybe the budget was limited. I would love to see if the building could be physically expanded to include more things, I think there is so much potential but some of the spaces seem small which can be limiting. Overall there is so much rich history of black Americans they explore and they do it so well. They have a theater and a slew of events throughout the year (jazz nights are coming back!) so I would recommend joining the mailing list and planning your trip here soon!

Experiência fantástica: The Lewis Museum has over 400 years of history in its permanent collection. Take a journey through Maryland African American history in the areas of industry, politics, leisure activities, sports, media, the arts, education, the military, and more. Learning your history educated you about the past and how we've evolved but there's still a lot of work to be done.

Experiência fantástica: Me and my family visited the museum for a Juneteenth (Freedom Day) event, it was WONDERFUL. ALL the art work and collections of our history was astounding!!!! Congrats to ALL of the MD High School artist who were recognized by Reginald F Lewis Museum. Will be taking my mother there soon as they do have accessible elevators, some museums do not. I recommend EVERYONE, not just Afro Americans, visit the museum.

Experiência fantástica: Wow. I did not know this museum existed. Definitely wasnt hip to the specific history of blk folk in Maryland. This spot is a definite go to. Take your kids, take your fam. Id advise asking someone to show you how the flow of the exhibits works, it can be a bit confusing. For the museum staff, keep the place swept and the doors cleaned. You all are displaying a prestigious history which is valuable. Keep the temple high in vibration.

Experiência fantástica: We had a great experience visiting the Lewis Museum. The exhibits are thoughtful and very educational. There is a rich history of black Americans in Maryland and it is well showcased here. We also really enjoyed the modern art exhibit! The museum is wheelchair accessible and child friendly with a change table in the first floor women’s bathroom (unsure about the men’s). The staff was friendly and the museum is well kept. I highly recommend a visit to The Lewis Museum.

Experiência fantástica: I went to see The Box, The End of Isolation tour, a play about solitary confinement. It was an amazing production with simple props and the most powerful stories I have ever heard. It was so powerful & traumatizing that there was somatic work afterwards: breathing, shaking & screaming! All three were absolutely NECESSARY. The United Nations considers solitary confinement torture. I will just leave this right here. I will let you sit with all of your questions about why “civilized” Americans create the most barbaric forms of punishment instead of restoration. Go & see it. It’s worth the investment. The stories will change you, move you, and tug at your soul.

Experiência positiva: The museum displayed a lot of very interesting artifacts from different periods of time. The museum was not arranged chronologically so pieces from the 19th century were next to pieces from the 20th century. I felt like I didn't learn much as it was confusing to place an artifact in its place in time and historical context. I also felt like it missed most of reconstruction.

Experiência positiva: Building is nice, I’m sure they host great events. I appreciated that they didn’t have guards/watcher ppl in the galleries. The bulk of the content (3rd floor) is quite disorganized and leaves much to be desired. The theme appears to be history of blacks in Maryland, but it is not organized chronologically nor in any clear thematic pattern. This is somewhat disorienting and makes it difficult to consume and retain the information provided. Overall fine for an indoor date if you’re looking for something to do and are cool w paying 12$ to walk around and browse artifacts and photos.

Experiência fantástica: Wow! Just wow! This place is powerful and impactful. The curator told us we would only need 90 minutes but honestly you could spend hours in this museum. You cannot sit and savor the information in 90 minutes. I recommend 2-3 hours if you have the time. There is an elevator so it is handi-accessible. Which is important for me and my family. I would say start at the 3rd floor and work your way down. The 3rd floor has tons and tons of exhibits. Go with friends and family and enjoy.

Experiência fantástica: Always educational and stunning, (and devastating at times when you think about some of the racist atrocities that are documented). It's one thing to read about history and another to share space with artifacts that were really there. Maryland educators get free admission!
