Experiência negativa: The ancient Akkadian and Etruscan galleries and European paintings were absolutely beautiful. Yet the entire ground floor was full of highly disturbing, unsettling "art" including distorted, discolored mannequins with wire protruding from their extremities, haunting noises, and bright flashing lights (trigger warning for epileptics/people who are sensitive to strobing lights). It felt like I was walking through a horror house. Absolutely NOT a place I would take my daughter and I noticed another family skipping these galleries since they also seemed concerned about the content. I am glad it was free because I would not pay to see the garbage on the first floor.

Experiência fantástica: I haven't been to a lot of art museums so I can't compare - art is so subjective anyway. I was glad to not see any "modern" art as far as abstract stuff goes. The bottom floor is photography, most quite thought-provoking. I came for the more historical artwork and was not disappointed.

Experiência positiva: I didn't like the fact that one of the officers told my daughter to ask I and my wife to stay farther away from the artifacts and art works on display. How could I read the attached stories, summaries, and historical data, if I stood far away from the works. Seemed like a race thing to me.

Experiência positiva: We were a bit concerned that the Harriet Beecher Stowe home where she stayed when writing Uncle Tom’s Cabin was unmanned while this mid-level art exhibit had three paid workers who spent more time concerned about a water bottle that was not being used. We ended up leaving. The priorities reflected were a bit off and we hope this is not indicative of the state of Maine or this college.

Experiência fantástica: Absolutely a great way to spend an afternoon in Brunswick. Museum is free and has a nice selection of pieces to enjoy, including some from Maine natives. You can probably do the entire museum in about 2 hours tops.

Experiência fantástica: A very lovely, accessible museum. Especially interesting to us was the family relationship of N.C. & Andrew Wyeth. The lady, who greeted us, was especially cordial and informative...a credit to the museum .

Experiência positiva: Gorgeous building. I've gone twice in the last year, and there was plenty of new content to view when I went the second time. Great selections as well! You can do a quick walk through the museum in about an hour, but if you take time with each piece, it takes closer to two or more. There is a small gift shop just before the entrance. Not a lot of parking spaces, so if you go on the weekend or during a holiday, be prepared to take a short walk as you'll have to go a block or so away to park.

Experiência fantástica: A fantastic art museum that is open and free to the public with donations accepted. The collection was built in part by the founder of Bowdoin College. It’s a nice combination of early American and European, some modern, and with a smattering of artifacts and works from ancient Egyptian times to Oceana. Not an overwhelming place, manageable for an afternoon stroll, and there’s a great room to practice your echo echo or overtone singing in:).

Experiência fantástica: I LOVED this museum!! I enjoyed it tremedously! It was free. The lady who works there was super nice and helpful. The museum has an incredibly interesting collection! Very high quality! I absolutely loved the Assyrian/Babilonian bas-reliefs. They also colored them with pointed lights - something I've never seen before. It was breathtaking. I loved the collection of unique and girgeous handmade baskets. It was very interesting to learn about the women who made them. Very unique. And of course, the European art! Beautiful collection!! I want to come back and enjoy it again! Also, I have to say that their gift shop had things that I haven't seen anywhere before. Very unique things - crafts, games, books, accessoiries, etc. Very different. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO VISIT this museum!

Experiência positiva: I have been in museums from New York to San Francisco. I have seen many famous artworks. Never have I been in a museum so poorly lit. While I understand how light can cause colors to fade, in my opinion, Bowdin is overly cautious. Fortunately, I took digital photos which produced the colors I couldn't see in person. And that is a shame.

Experiência positiva: I am fully vaccinated, but can get and give CVD the very same as those that are unvaccinated. The number of cases in cities that required masks compared to those who did not...THE SAME. The CVD molecule is miniscule, goes right through N95 masks. If you can smell wearing a mask...the CVD molecule can permeate the mask. So completely ignorant. Educate yourselves. Signed, an ICU registered nurse.

Experiência fantástica: Always a treat to see what is at this venue. This is not a big space but the collections are always very unique and the layout is perfect. Visiting the museum and then taking a leisurely walk on campus is beautiful. And when you are done, venturing out into the business district for lunch - there are so many choices - or a walk in the park in downtown Brunswick is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially now when the Fall weather is gorgeous.

Experiência fantástica: I went here on a college field trip a few years ago and was absolutely fascinated by some of the less seen treasures they have in an out of the way roo. There were some interesting gold coins, cuneiform tablets and a mummified hawk!

Experiência fantástica: This impressive college campus museum is a great hidden gem. The "new" wing is underground, so it's largely goes unnoticed, but it's always worth a visit, the exhibits rotate often enough that there's always something interesting to see.
