Experiência negativa: It was my misunderstanding that this was an Andrew Wyeth museum. It's not (There is a small room with a few peripheral pieces, and a temporary show of mediocre watercolor studies). Across the street there are a lot of his...son's work, which is...ok-ish. I get that this place has to pay people in the off season but $20 for admission it should not be. Check out their large Alex Katz piece lol. Wow. Who is buying for their collection?

Experiência fantástica: It is always a pleasure to (re)visit this museum, located in the heart of downtown Rockland. The museum staff were very accommodating of my party, which included children less than practiced in attending art museums. A note: Guests in wheelchairs who want to access the "back" galleries--closer to Main Street--need to ask staff to access a second elevator--there were some tense moments as I brought my family up and down the main elevator (there were six choices, none of them the right one); I think the only other option, to bypass the service elevator, may be to physically leave the museum and go around the sidewalk to the Main Street entrance (keeping on one's museum sticker, of course, to regain entry). In regards to the collection: I had visited a year ago and was surprised to see, today, so many different paintings on display, so it seems that they rotate the works fairly frequently--so don't count on necessarily finding old favorites, but you may find new ones. I was pleasantly surprised by Lynne Drexler's works, having read about her recent secondary-market success. Her vivid works seem like a stew of Pollock with Van Gogh, Monet, and Klimt liberally mixed in, but all so harmoniously--the colors vibrate on the walls quite pleasingly. I do wish the Marsden Hartley exhibition were larger, but all the works were deserving and I did leave satisfied.

Experiência fantástica: Wow, wow and wow. We totally loved the Jamie Wyeth exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed the legendary works of Andrew and N.C., along with the many other artists displayed here.

Experiência negativa: A once-great little museum, with a fine collection of American art, that in recent years has been taken over as a promotional vehicle for Wyeth family art. It now has highly unbalanced exhibits: plenty of very pedestrian Andrew Wyeth stuff, a few good NC Wyeth paintings, some awful Jamie Wyeth, but most of the jewels are now stashed away somewhere. Explanatory labels on paintings are full of banal "insights" and frequently contain errors. The museum seems to have been captured by Wyeth-loving philistines.

Experiência fantástica: A little gem of a museum in mid-coast Maine. I enjoyed the Wyeth Every Leaf & Twig and the Louise Nevelson exhibit on 6th floor was excellent. Whilst it may be a "small" museum, the alternative is to fly to NYC or train to Boston to see something like this!

Experiência fantástica: This is a wonderful museum and a must-see in Rockland! You can view many paintings by Andrew Wyeth, N.C. Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth, along with contemporary art that has been donated or purchased for the museum. The exhibits are wonderful. No food at the museum, but lots of options within a short walk. I recommend allowing two hours minimum to see the paintings and read all the exhibit materials.

Experiência fantástica: Fabulous Exhibits and the 75th Anniversary year is no exception. After visiting the Museum walk up the street to the big "white former Methodist Church building and visit the Wyeth Center. Your ticket for the museum gets you in there as well. Don't miss it. It celebrates N C Wyeth, Andrew & Jamie Wyeth in two floors of great ART.

Experiência positiva: Great little spot for some quality art inspired by the area. We checked out YT grounds and the guest museum and the Andre Wyeth church. Person in the lobby was happy to share some personal history that makes the artist come alive. Take a leisurely stroll as we did not have the time as had to make a ferry. Fun anyways.

The satellite church across the street has amazing architecture and the Wyeth watercolors were fabulous. Was hoping to see the Porters that another reviewer mentioned but they weren't up. Experiência positiva: The art is beautiful and the museum is large and well spaced. I do wish there was a map and they were clearer about where the entrance was. The lobby is also very loud.

Experiência positiva: For Rockland it is a great highlight but in absolute terms the museum isn't great. Great Wyeth(s) collections, very interesting room on book cover design. The rest is half good art and half bad art (my personal opinion). The real downside is the layout: difficult to follow the collection, rooms half with portraits and half with mountain or sea landscapes from different periods and artists. Also, if you're in a wheelchair or just have a stroller things get a bit overcomplicated for such a small space. And all for the "little" sum of 15 dollars per person...

A great building right in the middle of a great town. Visit the Wyeth collection in the adjacent church for sure.

The Olson House tour is amazing, even just visiting the exterior of the property during the current renovations is worth the trip.

The church exhibit was limited to one floor and not many of Jamie or NC Wyeth paintings there. The main museum also has had many art pieces that have been there for over six to eight months again not much different . I am will continue go but more innovative prices possibly more Newer Maine art could be infused now

I was particularly struck by the collection of Andrew Wyeth's work, which showed his stylistic evolution over the decades. Other collections are not as strong but are still well curated and presented. The special exhibits are very well done; the Andrew Wyeth/George Tice exhibit is wonderful. Well worth a visit!

Experiência fantástica: Impressive curation of art representing regional and internationally-renowned artists. There are two buildings and 6 floors, so we did not get to see everything, but our group looks at art thoughtfully (and rather slowly), so it is possible to see it all in a day (if you’re efficient). Guests wear an entrance sticker and can exit to have lunch (many Rockland downtown area eateries in close walking distance) before returning to the museum. I was surprised by the extensive collection of quality art.

Experiência fantástica: This was one of my first public outings since the pandemic turned life upside down. I am incredibly impressed with the diligence and care the museum staff has taken to insure visitors safety. From the minute you enter the building you feel as if you are the most important guest ever. Masks, hand sanitizers, and a very polite adherence to insuring six foot distancing all were in effect. I've visited many times but was surprised and thrilled to see many new paintings from their vast collections. The Elliott Porter photography exhibit is not to be missed. I had a delightful conversation with Richard, one of the security staff. Go visit and spend some money in their delightful gift shop too.

Experiência fantástica: We visited on rainy day during our vacation and were pleasantly surprised by the variety and scope of the exhibits on display. From the iconic LOVE sculpture by local world-famous artist Robert Indiana ringed with an original installation by Warren Seelig, to the large collection of works by Andrew Wyeth, to the children-friendly exhibits, to the extraordinary display by Ai WeiWei, the Farnsworth had a lot more going on than we expected. The courtyard was under construction, but we look forward to returning when the new outdoor display is complete.

Experiência positiva: Farnsworth Art Museum has always been one of the best art Museums in the area. They offer a variety of different art pieces as well as a great presentation when you walk in and when you walk out. The gift shop is pretty fantastic and offers a lot of different items in it as well. The service is alright, sometimes unenthusiastic but for the most part it isn't too bad. If you are in town, this is certainly a place to visit.

Experiência fantástica: This art gallery with a focus on the area, the Wyeths, and regional art is the place for Olsen House tickets which was our initial intent. The gallery is kid friendly and filled with great art. The village of Rockland is a great place to stay.

Es increíble las casas, los cuadros, las esculturas, todo, y lo mucho que aprendimos de la familia Wyeth. También es increíble el ascensor de la antigua iglesia, hay que verlo si o si! Y otra cosa que me emociono, a parte de los jardines, fue la biblioteca con un piano precioso que te dejan tocar. También la cantidad de libros interesantes que había. Lo único que eche en falta fue en la tienda más cosas del museo.

Experiência positiva: I worked here ten years ago as a gallery guard. Very professional and beautiful place of various arts. Staff are friendly, but very strict. Who would of thought art could be such a cash crop.

Experiência positiva: Small museum with many works from and about Maine. Came for the Wyeth collection but left disappointed. Most of his work was unavailable and the gallery where it should have been housed was closed. Until they are back on exhibit my suggestion is to visit his works elsewhere.

Experiência positiva: Though some of the exhibits were not yet opened during my visit, I enjoyed walking through to see the rest of the collection of artwork. The staff at the front desk and gift shop were very friendly and the shop had a nice collection of gifts and souvenirs. Two of the people for security seemed a little rude, choosing to walk through in front rather than behind some visitors who were looking at some works on the wall without saying a word of pardon and when we said good morning to another, they looked at us and then walked to another section of the museum where they continued to look at us from a distance. Other than that, I enjoyed the rest of the visit.

Experiência positiva: The farnsworth is a great museum with good exhibit rotation. The museum often gets great traveling exhibits too. It is definitely worth going to, thank you for supporting it. The museum is pricey, though, for what it is so it's great that the museum is free to Rockland residents. Why 3 star? The security. Front desk staff have always been nice to me. But I and people I know have had many experiences with the security staff being rude. I especially do not recommend bringing small children to the main exhibit hall (under ten). If you are an adult, you will enjoy their fine collection. But probably leave your kids at home. That won't save you from rude security, but give you a fighting chance.

Definitely worth going to if you’re in town and interested in art. Experiência positiva: Great museum, but if you’re in the off-season be sure to check how much of it is open; get your discount if half of it is under renovations. The exhibits are all interesting, and the Weiwei installation is here most of 2018 - a must see. The Maine art is well represented. There are exhibits showing Wyeth’s studies and the finished product, letting you see him work through the creative process and see all of the detail he planned.

Experiência positiva: We visited as we were in the area for a family event and had free entry due to a reciprocal art membership, other wise this place might be a little expensive for what it is. That said, it did have a decent and varied collection of art, with a focus on Maine and there is a lovely garden with a small sculpture park and a further gallery across the street out the back in a old church. Enough to entertain younger kids, but realise it isn't geared towards little children too. The museum store is also very good. Plenty of on street parking around the place as well.

Also found out that Billings Farm Museum has reciprocity and so will take advantage of this. Everyone who goes to Maine needs to visit this captivating place Rabbi Panitz
