Museu Solomon R. Guggenheim

Experiência fantástica: Very effective and unique as well. It is very special with the feature of its location right in fron of the central park.
Experiência fantástica: It's a smaller museum than I expected but the experience was enjoyable and great as a fan of any types of art! The staff was so kind, they also explained some things to me, that part will stick with me the most. It's also very accesible.
Experiência fantástica: One of my favorite museums - highly recommend for anyone who loves art and architecture. They have a reading room where you can draw or read, materials are provided.
Experiência negativa: The walls along the spiral staircase are remarkably and insistently devoid of almost anything. Put the art back on the walls please. This “exhibit” is disappointing. I did enjoy the dirt bike with the bullhorns for handlebars and the trippy 3D rug.
Experiência fantástica: We did enjoy the visit very much. Very interesting artwork with political background. The museum is small compared to Bilbao, but still worth the visit. The food at the restaurant is very decent and not overpriced.
Experiência positiva: It was wonderful to see some art by Vincent Van Gough and others, however the museum itself was not an overly nice environment. It was so incredibly busy that it was difficult to move around and appreciate the artwork. There was also a lot of pointless walking around the building, most likely to help distribute the herds of people. It would be much more enjoyable with a limit of patrons allowed inside at once.
Experiência fantástica: Modern art in a circular building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Experiência negativa: A whole lot of emptiness. Waste of money and time One of the worst museums I ve been to
Experiência fantástica: Been a few years since I visited, great exhibitions and quite possibly the best cookie and coffee combo since I got here
Experiência positiva: The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, often referred to as The Guggenheim, is an art museum at the Uppereast Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded by Solomon R. Guggenheim and was established by the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation in 1939. Our recent visit to this stunning modern art museum was an eye opener for us. Art appreciation is always in my blood and mind. I think looking at art pieces with my mind is the respect to the artist and myself. We were totally amazed at the sumptuous permanent collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern and contemporary art and special exhibitions. The museum's building, a landmark work of 20th-century architecture Frank Lloyd Wright. It took 15 years to design and build the museum and it was finally completed in 1959. The museum is a six-story tall building consists of a bowl-shaped main gallery to the south, a four-story "monitor" to the north, and a ten-story annex to the northeast. A six-story helical ramp extends along the main gallery's perimeter, under a central ceiling skylight. It is truly a monument tribute to modernism. The extraordinary design of the architectural structure and the interior space with its spiral ramp rising to a domed skylight are the main features that make the visitors feeling overwhelmingly dazzled and mesmerized. The museum's collection has grown over the years and now it includes more than 8000 works and will continue to grow. Personally I think art is viewed objectively with quality determined by principles of design, and social and cultural acceptance. What you see an art piece is how you feel about it. The color, form, and meaning of an art piece allows people to objectively and subjectively observe and interpret with their mind. Enjoy the art journey .
Experiência fantástica: There was some really fabulous art here, some of it recognisable or famous. The spiral interior allows you to appreciate the art in a totally new way, which we enjoyed. The food and cafe was also good. Downsides include the price and value for money - there isn't actually that much to see overall and it's doable in 60 to 90 minutes which for the cost was a bit insulting. The limited facilities were also frustrating. That said, it was a very positive experience.
Experiência positiva: So, for $30, I expected there to be more art to view. I quickly realized that I paid for the experience of being inside the building. Not totally sure yet if I agree that it was worth that price, but the building gets pretty crowded, so I can understand the economics behind it. I spent about an hour looking at the art very slowly. If my family had been with me, we would have been out of there in 30 minutes. That said, the current Jenny Holzer retrospective exhibit and installation is quite impressive. I don’t quite understand why the interior of the building feels so dated and shabby. It is a little bit sad.
Experiência fantástica: Transforming the concept of art using daily materials to create art, like rubber textiles wasted, plastics, etc.
Experiência positiva: I understand exhibits changing. But, do not promote pieces that are not on exhibit or have not been at the museum for a long time. What was there, fantastic. But what was promoted as "Must Sees" by the official website, most were not on display. The docents were fantastic! Very happy to discuss pieces without being overly pretentious, but excited to share their love of art interpretation.
Experiência positiva: exhibits are usually very miss and skippable. just come into the main lobby and look at the architecture inside and dip (this is free to do, no entrance fee needed). the current jenny holzer exhibit is viewable from here. there are more exciting museums in nyc to spend your time in
Experiência fantástica: A wonderful opportunity to admire the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Recommended to anyone coming to visit New York City. As a bonus, the store has awesome gifts and souvenirs.
Experiência fantástica: Excellent collection of Art. The building itself is an Architectural wonder.
Experiência fantástica: Toda una experiencia en exhibición de obras de arte, obra del legendario Frank Lloyd Right. Recomiendo la sala de pintores impresionistas, Monet, Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec etc
Experiência positiva: Beautifully curated although I asked what the best way to view was, from bottom to top or the other way around and the assistant replied after I asked for the second time that there must be a way it is intended: “any way you want miss, it’s the same” — as someone who loves exhibitions mostly to look inside the artist’s mind, this was quite disappointing and dismissive.
Experiência fantástica: great exhibits and permanent collection! wasn't crowded. The only drawback was the use of a QR code + app to read the description of a piece.
Experiência fantástica: The museum was interesting because the structure was cylindrical and the art and structures were on the walls with a few exhibits throughout! They have art made in 2023 which was impressive!
Experiência positiva: Walking up and looking up the spiral is really neat. The spiral along with the one room exhibition of paintings by Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, etc. are worth recommending. But, I would recommend another NYC museum over this one.
Experiência negativa: Such an empty museum for 30$. Most of their walls are totaly empty (see attached picture) There's only 1 room with painters like Renoir, Kandinsky, Manet, Picasso among others. This room counts only 24 paints. Then you have a couple of modern art. The Guggenheim in Venice, Italy, was probably one of my favorite museum. The one in NYC is probably the worst and shockingly empty one that I ever visited.
Experiência negativa: Geez, where do I start? If they had a "full satisfaction or your money back" guarantee, I'd be asking for our 60 bucks back. As one reviewer said, you need no more than an hour and that's generous. (Start at the top and walk down, it goes thankfully faster) MET is closed on Wednesdays so we tried this place. A mistake. Half the spaces down the spiral were empty, and while they advertised all these famous contemporary and impressionistic paintings by Renoir, Gauguin, Pissarro, Mondrian etc, they have like one of each and nothing in noteworthy for an amateur. It's all in one little area off one of the lower floors and it's nothing more than a single room. This place is NOTHING like the MET. Save your money and spend an extra hour at the MET, which you could spend weeks going though, and you'll save yourself money. I've posted pictures of some of the random stuff they have here, look at pictures on this review and save yourself 30 bucks. If this review saves even 1 person their 30 buck entry fee, it's worth writing. I've spend DAYS in the MET the last two weeks and this took me about 40 minutes and I was bored the whole way through. Too bad the MET is closed on Wednesdays, I'm gonna bet this place is dead other days of the week as it should be.
Experiência positiva: Not really impressed. Not too much art to see. Many of the walls are empty. If you are going to spend 30 dollars for a Museum go to the Metropolitan instead.
Experiência negativa: This place has turned into a shadow of its former self. A lot of empty walls. The walls that are not empty are used for political messages. Some declassified files from Afghanistan war and a lot of politically motivated messaging. Some questionable modern art exhibits and a single room containing some Picasso and Matisse paintings. Extremely disappointed for $30 a person.
Experiência fantástica: One more great museum to visit!
Experiência negativa: Really interesting building but that's about it. It's $30 for bare walls. This was a complete waste of money. I will not go again and will suggest others not to.
Experiência fantástica: the museum structure itself is good. the works inside feels more like a show of materials/texture instead of history/skill content compared to various museums nearby. still worth a visit, nice experience here.
Experiência negativa: Very disappointing. Upon entry, i was greeted/ talked down to by a short, balding man who had nothing better to do except shoo people away from the entrance. Very odd.. I wish that I followed his advice. Much of the "art" is random junk and political statements disguised as art. The circular ramp design serves no practical purpose other than to hide exhibits that are off the path. One of the main reasons I spent my 30 dollars was to view their Wasily Kandinsky display, which they prominently advertised. It turned out that they lent out all but one of their paintings to other museums. That was the bland icing on the Guggenheim- shaped gluten and dairy free cake. Hard pass. Instead, take a free stroll through Central Park which is literally across the street.
Experiência fantástica: The building itself is the main exhibit. It is grand but I wish they you also find areas that are blocked off. For example the cafe has outdoor space but it is locked. There are these bubble like features on the outside garden that are skylights to a basement which, as far as I know, you cannot access.
Experiência positiva: Spectacular building, but more than half empty. Bizarre. Some refreshingly confronting political pieces. Digital ticker tape superb. Utterly Terrible cafe. High school cafeterias better. Just don’t.
Experiência negativa: The architecture is amazing. Unfortunately the traveling art exhibits here are usually atrocious. Never take your girl here when you’re early in the game. It could get awkward. Typically the gift shop has better art than the actual museum.
Experiência negativa: I’m a big fan of the Guggenheim having visited NY previously and Bilbao. The current NYC exhibition is literally a waste of space, exhibit space that is. 80% of the spiral exhibition space is empty and what is there certainly didn’t do it for me , my wife and many other visitors. Hall two which had some of the stock impressionist paintings was really busy whilst the ‘main exhibit’ was far less so. In summary, hall 2 was a saving grace!
Experiência positiva: The museum is a good experience as long as there is an interesting exhibition going on. I would recommend anybody to check what's currently ongoing, otherwise you might end up surprised or disappointed.
Experiência positiva: It’s an absolutely stunning museum that’s well worth a visit. However, closing off a large part of the exhibition and still charging full price is not on. It should’ve been advertised at the entrance in my opinion as we felt a little bit cheated. $30 for only half a collection is a bit steep. We sadly missed out on quite a few of the masterpieces that made us want to visit in the first place. Like I said, beautiful museum but we left with mixed feelings.
Experiência negativa: The ticket price is a scam at this point. The building itself is beautiful and the museum has a few great paintings on display, but we paid 30$ per ticket whilst some of the galleries and a big part of the permanent exhibition were closed. The spiral stair case also had way too many empty walls but they don’t tell you this in advance. We were unimpressed and felt the price should be 15$ tops whilst the museum is under maintenance.
Experiência fantástica: Based on a visit in February 2024. The Guggenheim was everything I thought it would be, only better! From the moment you walk into the gentle slope climb up this iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building the experience is stunning. This museum houses some of the most beautiful and diverse collections ranging in a wonderful mix of both modern and contemporary art. There is something for everyone. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, quick to offer tales, stories and historical facts about pieces, or happy to engage in debate and ideas. We went right in at the opening time with minimal cueing. The space is large but you can do it in an hour or two depending on your speed and time spent enjoying each piece. I can highly recommend the Guggenheim as a must-visit for art lovers, so glad we managed to vitis into your trip.
Experiência positiva: John Lennon’s memorial. I wasn’t expecting something more. But the vibe was there. A musician shared some tunes of John. Crowded though.
Experiência negativa: We have been in the past, this time it seemed way to political for such a world renowned museum. Of course we will go again on our next trip to NY, it's the Guggenheim after all....
Experiência positiva: Not really much of anything,in my opinion, except for the architecture, at least I can say I was there, but again, it's no big deal
Experiência negativa: Picasso art was beautiful, but everything else was uber liberal! $30 entry fee and then we were asked for donations!
Experiência fantástica: Impressive architecture combined with impressive art. A fantasticly calming experience to add to any hectic visit to New York.
Experiência negativa: Not worth the money, at least for now (Summer 2024). It used to be one of the greasiest NYC museums but now 2/3 of exhibitions are shut down, they still charge the full price. The exhibitions are disorganized, too few objects on display and some are of questionable quality.
Experiência fantástica: Unique in its own way. I lived the exhibits and the material art. Worth seeing once, even if it's only the architecture.
Experiência fantástica: The tag line is « Bringing radical art and radical architecture together ». They sure deliver. Fabulous building. Very provocative art.
Experiência negativa: I went back to see museum after almost 14 years. Very disappointed, half of displays place were empty. They displayed Mr. Donald Trump tweets, so they are politically motivated. When I asked a authority she said the Artist wanted to leave empty slots. Its not worth waste your time and money. Goodside is air-conditioned and free wifi in hot summer day.
Experiência fantástica: The museum had nice and interesting exhibitions but I felt like it was lacking something. Maybe I was subconsciously comparing it to The Met museum which is one of my favorite museums in New York City. The Light Line exhibition was eye captivating and loved reading the words.
Experiência fantástica: This was such a good surprise. I forgot this place was in New York. Im so glad I found it while walking in Central Park. (This was my first time in NY). Jenny Holzer has curated an exceptional exhibition there right now. (June 2024). Just amazing. You need a good 2-3 hours for this place. The architecture is just stunning. I would give a warning of vertigo as i felt slightly dizzy having walked up all the way to the top. You dont realize it but you might feel it later in the day. Highly Highly recommend!!
Experiência fantástica: An ever changing space. It's nice to browse around from exhibit to exhibit from past masters to new artists influencing today's minds. A nice way to spend an hour or two in mid town.
Experiência positiva: Guggenheim holds different kinds of art displays. It has its own pieces that stay and there are also new displays from different artists. Currently, it feels like the theme is Art and Politics in the main hall.
Experiência positiva: It is a great museum, plus the architecture itself is to admire. It was not so crowded which I really appreciate because it was way easier to enjoy the exposition.
Experiência positiva: Some of the art was really impressive and some very famous paintings can be found. Apart from that it's 4 floors, toilets are on each floor, it's not as majestic as I was expecting but definitely deserves a visit.
Experiência negativa: The architecture is beautiful but the museum is almost empty, they have about 60% of the spaces without any work. Entering and seeing the building from below is free so I recommend doing that so you don't have to spend, because it is the only thing worth seeing: the building.
Experiência fantástica: One of THE great galleries. It's not a hot take to say that the building is as much a work of art as the items it contains. Lots of important modern and contemporary work. Friendly, helpful staff. Great gift shop.
Experiência fantástica: It’s always the grand debate which is better the space or the art therein. Love this place. This was the first museum I ever visited when visits New York before moving here in the early 90s when I came to visit my grandma on my first trip here alone.
Experiência fantástica: Amazing building, it was just worth it to look at Frank Lloyd architecture. Many art pieces to enjoy too but not a huge collection. Loved their display arts.
Experiência fantástica: Visiting the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City was an enriching experience that I would recommend to anyone with an appreciation for art and architecture. I went on a weekday, which I found to be the perfect time as it was not overly crowded, allowing for a more intimate and relaxed visit. One of the first things that struck me was the iconic architecture of the museum itself. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the building is a masterpiece that enhances the experience even before you step inside. The spiral design of the interior creates a unique flow as you move through the exhibits, making the viewing of art feel more dynamic and engaging. The collection inside is diverse and impressive, featuring works from a wide range of periods and styles. I particularly enjoyed the modern art pieces and the thought-provoking installations. Each exhibit is well-curated, and the information provided is insightful without being overwhelming. The price of admission was $25, which I found to be reasonable considering the quality of the exhibits and the overall experience. There are also discounts available for students and seniors, which is a nice touch. Additionally, the museum offers a pay-what-you-wish admission on select evenings, making it accessible to a broader audience.
Experiência negativa: The building is impressive and nice, the cafeteria is great. The gift shop was lacking, nothing really grabbed my attention. Now the art, the Impressionist paintings and other paintings were nice but that was on the second or third floor and the few things they had after that didn't make it worth the $30, if you even want to consider Donald Trump tweets and declassified public documents engraved in aluminum art. Go to another museum if you are there for the art. I would recommend this only if you really want to walk the spiral
Experiência negativa: It's simply not worth it for the casual visitor. Of course, the spiral hallway is intriguing and has the bonus of being disability accessible. And the line was almost non-existent. But that's about it for me in the plus column, as I realized the line may have been that short for a reason. Most of the art descriptions are hidden in QR codes, which can't be viewed without installing an app on your phone. Also inconveniently, the room descriptions were typically placed in the narrow hallways leading into the rooms, making it tight and awkward to stand and read them as visitors passed in and out. I gave up trying to read them. Much of the art was frankly uninteresting and not engaging. There were exceptions, which would've warranted a 2-star rating. However, out of the hundreds of visits I've made to museums over my lifetime, this is the first time a guard called me out (or I've seen call anyone out) for wearing a bag on my back. This would be understandable if it was a large backpack, if I was bringing it close to walls or art installations, or even if I was informed upfront near the entrance. None of those were the case. I was wearing a sackpack tight to my body, and it was 3 floors up in the spiral hallway away from any art or walls. Unsurprisingly, I observed about 10 other visitors wearing noticeably larger backpacks without a guard calling out to them (which is perfectly fine outside of this context). Maybe it was this guy's first week, but what would've been a 2 star rating is 1 star. I can recommend the MoMA instead, where (let alone the art) no one got hassled for bags on their back despite the denser crowds. The line there can get many hundreds of feet long for security, but it moves quickly.
Experiência positiva: Looked so forward to the photographs I would take at the spiral only to learn it was closed while they changed exhibits. Still, got a peak behind the curtain and it will be stunning when reopened. It's an intimate gallery with a delicious lunch spot. Staff very friendly and helpful!
Experiência negativa: I paid 1$ and it was too expensive for this. I love architecture and art, it is true that modern art is not my favourite art but I still like it when the exhibitions are good. Therefore I have been to many museums in my life in many countries, many of them were free but still 99% were better than this one. I recognise that the architecture is nice and there are some paintings that are nice, but it is miserable for a museum with such a big name. Maybe the best part of it was looking at the walls and washing my hands.
Experiência positiva: Fairly nice museum with an interesting navigation flow. Just keep spiralling up the stairs. The exhibits were okay, but nothing mind blowing since they removed the Pollock (Stampede) from the exhibition. But decent fun and some great works.
Experiência positiva: Loved visiting this space! Excellent exhibits!
Experiência fantástica: Would differently recommend visiting it if you love art!
Experiência positiva: An interesting experience but many of the exhibit areas were empty.
Experiência positiva: The attraction of this museum is the architecture of the building itself. The artwork collection is small and relatively disappointing. The Met and Frick are much better museums.
Experiência fantástica: I visited mid morning on a week day and there was no queue and minimal people standing around the top exhibits eg Picasso and Van Gogh
Experiência fantástica: Very uniquely built museum. A lot of modern arts inside.
Experiência fantástica: Very pleasant experience. Staff was super nice and it was not too crowded. Some were hits some were misses for me, to be expected. Overall walking around didn’t take too long and love the shape. Absolutely LOVED the nyc public school children’s exhibit.
Experiência positiva: jenny holzer exhibit was amazing and evocative and beautiful but the bathrooms were all a mess and very small (i'm a small person) main collection also very cool and obviously the building itself is incredible to behold i bought my ticket for 3:30 pm and when i arrived on a saturday i saw that pay what you want starts at 4pm so keep that in mind lol
Experiência fantástica: I think this is a must stop for NYC. There is so much thought and discourse in the exhibitions. You would do best to take your time, take in the exhibits, and sit with your thoughts.
Experiência negativa: I'm completely disappointed!! Some things are overpriced... this is not at all what I expected. On the first two floors you will find a small number of paintings and strange displays of modern "art", the remaining four floors are practically empty exhibition halls. I just had a walk through the empty floors. It's not fair to charge everyone $30 per ticket for nothing. …..I was especially struck by the collection of garbage..what??
Experiência positiva: So it's the Guggenheim... But the current exhibits were underwhelming. There were a few tidbits of things on the main walk. Seeing the Impressionist is always special.
Experiência negativa: Very disappointed. I am Met member and I go regularly to Met and MOMA. I came here expecting to have a good experience, but I am sorry to say that was not the case. The interiors are not well maintained, light is poor, and and you can skip all upper floors. Even the cafeteria experience was very poor. You pay $30… for that you see the building (that’s why most people keep entering) and there are some pieces worth, but if you have to choose, go to the Met a few meters away and you won’t regret.
Experiência fantástica: Breathtaking place many major artists on display. And the building itself is a work of art.
Experiência negativa: The museum's exhibits were not particularly engaging and did not provide a worthwhile experience for visitors. It may be more beneficial to repurpose the space into a shopping mall, which would likely generate more revenue and better serve the community's needs. Don't go there!!!
Experiência positiva: It was something interesting for sure. The expose that was there when I went wasn’t really my taste of art, so we went through it very quickly. But because we had some kind off pass we got to visit for free, so I can recommend it if you have nothing to do or like art. But in our case it just wasn’t it.
Experiência positiva: The museum is smaller than I expected. We did not buy tickets ahead, but it was not an issue, there was no line and we could get in quickly. I'm one of these people who likes to sit down front of an art work, I could place more seating.
Experiência fantástica: It's a bit heavy on political and social science concepts, highly complex expressive artwork and a very interesting structure. They'll ask you to carry your backpack on your front. I don't recommend if you are not into artistic interpretation of social, anthropological or human sciences
Experiência positiva: Ok, do not criticism me too harshly because I gave it only 3 starts... I was not that crazy about this place! For the price I rather go to the Met ! It has much more to offer ! YES, the building is impressive, and it's OK as far as some of the art it has, but ... NO, not my thing ... most of what they had when I was there was WAR "ART EXPRESSION" and some conceptual art that inadvertently I let my thoughts be formulated into words!!! And it was not pretty... I said something like "some more waste....." I know, I know art is in the eye of the beholder, I was not captured. My bad ! But by all means, it's a place to go and check out. Oh, the children's art was the best part! Judging by what i saw, there is some serious talent in our future!
Experiência positiva: A very important art museum in NYC. However, without any disrespect, i have more and more difficulties to follow its contempirary exhibitions. Sometimes they seem more political than artistic. They certainly give an opportunity to discuss.
Experiência fantástica: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” Maya Angelou I think that a determined mindfulness to further develop our thought processes is a worthy endeavor and I’ve found that visiting a museum can be assistive in increasing one’s perspective. While my typical reaction has been appreciation for the vision and skill the artists demonstrate when creating their pieces, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum brought an entirely different response: it was thought provoking. My favorite piece was the shattered stone tablet laid strewn across the floor with several inscriptions including, “WORDS TEND TO BE INADEQUATE.” While the interpretation can (and should) be debated, I found the symbolism to be profound. The seeming power of our words (written in stone no less) are inadequate without some accompanying action on our part! I also found the simple plaque with the words, “They are ready for you when you are” extremely compelling. My interpretation was that this was meant to instruct us that we all too often establish and nurture self-imposed boundaries for ourselves, while those around us can often times see more clearly our true potential. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own way, challenge ourselves by “putting ourselves out there”, and see what happens! To be clear, these interpretations are my own (and may be in conflict with the intent of the Artists), but isn’t that the beauty of Art? It encourages not only appreciation, but also creative (and often divergent) thought. The building (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) is a work of Art in itself (inside and out), the exhibitions rotate periodically, exploring the museum can be accomplished in a few hours, their “Cafe Rebay” is an excellent place to take a break, and purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. While the rotunda gradually rises to the oculus at its apex, those with mobility issues shouldn’t be discouraged from visiting as elevators provide access to each floor and many of the adjoining exhibition rooms are flat. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #guggenheim
Experiência fantástica: The Guggenheim Museum, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York, is a renowned modern art museum founded in 1939. It is famous for its unique spiral design by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The museum's collection includes works from Impressionism, early modern art, and contemporary art, featuring artists like Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Picasso. In addition to its New York location, the Guggenheim has branches in several other cities worldwide. It offers diverse exhibitions and educational programs, playing a leading role in the modern art world.
Experiência fantástica: We had not even planned on going to the Guggenheim but they had a special with our hotel W. When they mentioned it at check-in we thought, why not? So glad we went! It was not overly crowded. Keep an eye out for bathrooms tucked in all over the place. We would see five people waiting at one bathroom and another one right across the hall that no one was going to. Not sure what that was about! I love the exhibit they had with works by school children. The rest of their lives those kids will be able to say their work was exhibited at the Guggenheim! Very cool.
Experiência positiva: The Guggenheim was awesome! Entrance is $30.00 - you’re allowed to enter the building and stay in the main lobby for free which is definitely worth it if you don’t want to may a museum fee. There was not a wait, and the museum was not too crowded. Pros: There are some highly recognizable artists and artworks in this museum, all original pieces ( I made sure to ask!) Staff were friendly and very talkative. The museum is well maintained, clean, and overall a joy to visit. There is mixed media on each floor ( currently paintings, a kids artist floor, video to fabric to multimedia art.) Cons: There was not as much art as I thought there was going to be. You could easily walk through the whole museum in an hour. There was a lot of empty space toward the top of the museum, and there was artwork in the bathrooms, which many of the bathrooms are single stall and had long lines. There was also many art pieces displayed without an Artist statement and I had no idea what was going on, or what was the context of the art. Side note the building is ADA compliant.
Experiência positiva: I can't call myself an artsy fartsy kind of guy but I do like art. And I can appreciate good art. Having been to other art establishments like the Louvre in Paris and many in London I had high hopes for the Guggenheim. Sadly I did feel a little underwhelmed after my visit. Before you enter the building standing outside you do feel like there is a real presence about the building. And upon entry the style and how it winds up is very exciting. $30 per person was fine to pay for entry and we were not told that we would need to buy any additional audio to understand what we are looking at. As it had been a long few days it was suggested to start at the top and work our way down. Great idea. This is where the issues started. We had no idea what we were looking at. There was clearly a war theme but there were also too many empty alcoves and we really had to work hard to try and piece it all together. Not really for me. We did however find some of the side rooms which contained some actual art and sculptures which was nice to find. In conclusion a lovely building but maybe this time the theme was not for me. Or maybe more research was needed before entering. Very friendly and polite staff and clean and tidy
Experiência fantástica: Incredible architectural experience. Affordable, clean, and efficient museum. Highly recommend!
Experiência fantástica: Really quick museum but super cool designs and incredible art. Definitely worth it to go!
Experiência fantástica: The architecture of the building is unique. I must admit that I didn‘t made more as the foyer, because I was so amazed and enjoyed the feeling.
Experiência positiva: Currently half of the museum is closed so I think that takes away from the experience. Also the signage needs to be better once inside. You are however paying half the price to get in.
Experiência positiva: We went to the Guggenheim and found out that they are redoing the exhibit at the spiral walkway so it was closed. However Warren Edwards, security, had amazing stories and back story of some of the paintings on the second floor. He is so enthusiastic when he was telling us the back stories and kept us engaged for like three paintings. See the captions for the antidotes Warren spoke about. Keep up your enthusiasm and love to the art. You made our experience amazing.
Experiência fantástica: Visiting the Guggenheim Museum is an unforgettable experience, combining incredible art with stunning architecture. The design of the museum, created by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, is a masterpiece in itself. The iconic spiral structure not only stands out in NYC but also enhances the way you experience the exhibits. The collection is impressive, featuring works from some of the most renowned artists in modern and contemporary art. Special exhibitions are always thoughtfully curated, adding new dimensions to the museum's permanent collection. Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply appreciate innovative design, the Guggenheim Museum is a must-visit.
Experiência fantástica: Visiting the Guggenheim was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, I was captivated by the stunning architecture and innovative exhibitions. The museum's collection is truly world-class, featuring a diverse range of modern and contemporary art that left me feeling inspired and enriched. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing my visit with their insights and passion for the artwork. I can't recommend the Guggenheim enough - a must-visit destination for art lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike. Five stars all the way!
Experiência positiva: I went when they were doing construction, so the actual architecture most people come to see was closed off (reopens May 17), luckily the ticket price was reduced to $16. For those not a fan of modern art, I wouldn't recommend this museum since that is precisely what is on display. A lot of the exhibits may seem strange but they do convey some sort of meaning if you carefully read their descriptions. I would definitely come again once the construction is complete to experience the museum without the jackhammers and the white tarp everywhere.
Experiência fantástica: Interesting museum and no wait time. Also suggest starting at the top and work your way down. Probably takes 1 hr
Experiência fantástica: Have always wanted to visit this building, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It did not disappoint it was all I expected The curvature of the walls an art piece in itself. Great exhibit “Going Dark”.
