Confuso. Muito obrigado pela resposta! Voltarei para visitar as exposições rotativas. Ainda sou fã! :-)

The Charlotte Museum of History

Experiência negativa: Skip this place, they’ve got poor exhibits and don’t cover any local history with depth or substance. Its leadership seems to be focused on non-museum activities. It is a tragedy that the Levine museum closed while this is still open.

The Charlotte Museum of History

Hi David! We're sorry to hear you did not enjoy a single of our five different exhibits. Our exhibits rotate quarterly and interpret the settlement of the Piedmont Backcountry and the history of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region over time, focusing on moments in history and not just a linear story. We also host educational and cultural events monthly. Is there a particular topic you'd like to see covered in our exhibits? I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to have a conversation and listen to any feedback you are willing to provide to improve our offerings! Please reach out to [email protected] at your earliest convenience, and thanks for visiting our museum.Saskia Lascarez CasanovaVisitor Services Manager

Experiência negativa: If you visit this museum thinking you will learn about the history of Charlotte, think again! My husband and I visited, and there were three exhibits-one on sports, one on portraits of African Americans and one on an African American opera company. We went back to the front desk and asked where Charlotte history was located. “We don’t have a timeline of Charlotte history, just the exhibits you saw, but we do have a house out back you can tour…at 2:00 pm”. It was 11:00 am. We are world travelers and often visit the history of a city before we sight see. This museum was a major disappointment!

The Charlotte Museum of History

Hi Lois! We're sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit to our museum. Our exhibits rotate quarterly and interpret the settlement of the Piedmont Backcountry and the history of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region over time, focusing on moments in history and not just a linear story, like mentioned. Experiência fantástica: I visited the Charlotte Museum of History and was delighted by the warm welcome given by Erica Dawson Naylor. I spent 2 hours walking the exhibits as well as the historic grounds and enjoyed every minute. The only sight that gave me pause was seeing Queen Charlotte directly in front of the door to the women's restroom. I sincerely hope Her Majesty has a better spot in the museum during my next visit. (lol) Whether you're a Charlotte native or just visiting, a trip to the Museum of History is a must. I look forward to seeing all the museum has planned for 2024!

Experiência negativa: Not worth even the cheap $10 admission. Very disappointing. The exhibits had almost nothing at all to do with the history of Charlotte... An opera exhibit with random Egyptian stuff, really? For someone who was genuinely really interested in the city and region's history this was a real letdown. We may not like all of our history, but it's important, we need to learn from it, not pretend it never happened.

The Charlotte Museum of History

Hi Rob! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your visit with us but I assure you everything in our museum is related to Charlotte and Piedmont Region history. We agree that all of our history needs to be shared so that we can learn from it, and through our exhibits, programs, and caretaking of our five historic buildings, we do just that. The opera exhibit is about a historic opera company founded by a woman from our region and featured prominent vocalists and musicians also from North Carolina. There are also currently exhibits about the Charlotte Hornets who are celebrating their 35th anniversary, the Siloam School (which you would have seen being restored in the front of the museum), and the importance of cartoons and animation when it comes to sharing news, specifically via the Charlotte Observer. We also still have our historic house, kitchen, spring house, and barn that tell the story of colonial Charlotte. While no, we don't have a linear exhibit that is a walkable timeline, we do share the history of our city and region that often gets overlooked or taken for granted. I hope you'll give us another chance in the future (we change exhibits relatively frequently and have monthly community programs). Thank you for visiting!Terri L. White, President and CEO

Experiência positiva: We arrived and the first thing we saw was that employees were parking in the RV spaces (close to the entrance). Then came the wait, the woman was 15 minutes late to open up the doors. The ticket price would have been okay if the museum was fully functional, however, only one display was open. The other half of the museum was taken over by NC basketball - this is a historical museum, not a sports museum. One of the trails on the loop were closed due to a fallen tree. While the area about schools was interesting, had we known that this was all that was available we would have skipped this. Suggest you check to see if they really have historical areas open before you visit.

Experiência negativa: Drove an hour to see some museums only to be told at 4:03 that they stop taking guests at 4…. Even though they close at 5. Apparently 3min is a huuuuge deal… or maybe… the people that work there just don’t want to do their job. I’m a paying customer i drove an hour away, and you wont let me in because the sign on the door says 4 o’clock is the latest people are allowed in? The sign on the door?… not something on the website, i was supposed to, from my house, know about the sign on the door? What a joke.

The Charlotte Museum of History

Hello Ellis,My name is Terri, President and CEO of the museum. I was just notified about your review and first, let me sincerely apologize for your mistreatment at our institution. I have addressed this with our entire staff and explained that this is not acceptable customer service and not a reflection of our values or the culture we are building here at CMH . I truly regret that you did not get a chance to see the museum and would love to welcome you back when your schedule permits. I'd also love to hear any additional feedback you may have on how we can continue to improve our guest experience both digitally and in person. I want to publicly thank you for bringing this to our attention, but hope you'll contact us so we can speak directly.

Experiência positiva: The rock house is worth seeing if you can go for the tour. The tour takes you through the 1st and 2nd floors and the out buildings. It lasted about 90 mins, and the guide Mike was awesome. The museum had a few exhibits, but I don't think I would go for just that.

Experiência fantástica: Thanks to the Charlotte Museum of History, we can see and feel what it was like to live in Charlotte centuries ago. A beautiful Museum; and the 1774 Hezekiah Alexander House is a historical treasure. Donations are ongoing to refurbish the Kitchen House, bringing more history back to life. A must visit Museum for all ages.

Glee Coffeen 11 months ago

Experiência positiva: We expected to see a broader display of Charlotte history. The museum is significantly focused on the 1774 stone house, which we could not enter. There is a small section on news print cartoons and the beginnings of information on the recently added Siloam School. There appears to be a new exhibit coming but it was not available for viewing. Not the level of museum aligned with the name. Note: to access the stone house requires walking up a somewhat steep hill, which may be challenging for elders.

Experiência fantástica: The Charlotte Museum of History in Eastern Charlotte was a great learning experience about the history of Charlotte and the state of North Carolina. You can allocate 2 hours to the museum, if you want to explore everything in detail. Their last admission is at 4pm every day when they’re open, so be mindful of that. There are mainly two sections to the museum—the first part is the outside where you can find the Hezekiah Alexander’s Rock House, the kitchen, and the spring house, including a few other structures. I appreciated that over the years, the museum has tried to maintain the originality of the structures both from outside as well as inside. The Rock House is the oldest building in the Mecklenburg County! I didn’t know that. It’s an easy walk to explore all the areas outside. There’s the freedom bell too which makes for a good photo spot. There’s a bit of history to the bell as well. The inside of the museum is spread across two floors with the lower floor having pictures related to Charlotte history over the years, an auditorium(for events I presume), and other significant artifacts and dioramas showcasing the events and people that shaped Charlotte. The second floor had a cartoon exhibit, and a section called “Charlotte Gems” which showcased the important people in Charlotte’s history. It was an enriching experience to learn about both. Cartooning indeed can be quite powerful drawing inspiration from the world affairs, and in turn influencing the masses it reaches to. The exhibit shed light on the prominent cartoon artists of Charlotte. I wish there was more information in the museum about the slaves and the Native American people who shaped Charlotte, but the information is scant, not because it’s the museum’s fault, but there’s literally scant information available about them. For instance, the information about the slaves is only available through the writings of Hezekiah, who owned them. As accurate as those writings may be, they still cannot completely capture their lives. The museum continues to try and uncover new information about Charlotte’s history, which is wonderful. Overall, I highly recommend the museum in case you’re a history buff like me, and even if you aren’t, you still can find something of interest here. The staff is polite, and does their best to help. There’s a discount available for students, seniors and children. In case you want to do a rock house tour, that’s available too for an additional fee. Check out their website for the latest prices. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the museum wasn’t busy. There’s a big parking lot outside, so parking shouldn’t be a problem.

Experiência negativa: Lack of technology, lack of accurate dates, lots of reading, not family friendly. I love museums but this one is just a waste of time

The Charlotte Museum of History

Hi Ed! Thanks so much for visiting and leaving your feedback. The interpretative materials we have as part of our exhibits are thoroughly researched by historians and museum staff alike to ensure the most up-to-date information is shared with our visitors, supported by the most recent research in the field(s). We’d love to sit down and chat with you about the discrepancies you noticed during your visit as it relates to your observed “lack of accurate dates.”Furthermore, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our funding largely depends on that of donations, sponsorships, and collaborative partnerships as a means to consistently producing new exhibits, programs, etc. (not to mention, funding the maintenance and general upkeep of a museum building and historic site)If you are noticing at our site a sufficient lack of the features you’re used to seeing as a regular museum-goer yourself, please consider making a donation so that we can continue to grow as a cultural institution, work towards our goals, and provide our future visitors of all ages with the best learning experience possible.

Experiência negativa: The only interesting thing is Hezekiah Alexander House. They don’t have any other actual historical exhibits, just a lot of informational boards. Moreover, we’ve been there on Saturday and they had some kind of dance competition in the museum. Loud music is not appropriate in the history museum. Visit doesn’t worth $10.

Josh Taylor 1 year ago

Experiência negativa: The Charlotte Museum of History is an impressive building. For an entry fee of $10, the exhibits themselves felt a bit disjointed and lacked more display items to capture interest. Sections of text were interesting, but difficult to justify the entry fee for. A quick Google and you'd learn the same information that the museum provides. I believe if I'd have been on the guided tour my rating would have been higher. However, I'd not bother as we struggled to fill and hour here.

Experiência negativa: DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING AT THIS VENUE!!!! I directed a wedding at the Charlotte Museum of History one month ago and it was the worst experience EVER. The Operations & Events Manager, was unprofessional and argumentative the entire time. She even went as far as to make a serious allegation against me which was later proven by multiple people to be FALSE. An allegation that could have lead to the police showing up and ruining a brides wedding!!!!!!!!! Over the last 20 plus years, I've directed and coordinated weddings/receptions across NC and SC and have never witnessed such mean-spirited treatment. I can honestly say at some point during the two day event, there were run-ins with the bride, the bridesmaids, the mother of the bride, the catering staff and myself. As a matter of fact the experience left us with a litany of "negative" treatment at the hands of one person and one person only! I will sum it up by saying the treatment was reported at the highest level in great detail. To date, seemingly damage control is being done by the venue....responding to negative reviews from years ago indicating how things have changed. Well, the Operations & Events Manager remains the same. So, as of one month ago it was "status quo"

Experiência positiva: I remember the museum to be more lively and more exhibits to see and it was more things to learn I haven’t been back since I was kid but yesterday I decided to go back and to show my lil sis the museum that we always past to go home. The museum inside looks empty not many things to see it looks like the close some parts off and took some exhibition away. It was pretty small and fast to go through. However it’s still an amazing place to see the last standing homes from the past still standing just wish we came earlier to get a tour inside because we could had only see from the outside and also the big bell use to have a button to ring the bell not anymore.

Experiência fantástica: It's a wonderful museum containing local and regional history. I think it's important for people to know about the history of where they live and this place had loads of it for Charlotte. It was surprisingly big and looked very well kept. Staff were nice and helpful. We took the tour of the old stone house/spring house/etc. And the guide was great. All well worth your time and money.

Experiência positiva: The Charlotte Museum of History is certainly worth visiting. The layout is spacious and open. Out to the stone house is a pleasant walk. Experiência fantástica: Fantastic experience. I can't believe it had taken me this long to check this place out. We came for the AAPI family day, so admission was free. The exhibit was beautiful and informative. The cultural shows and activities were fun and engaging. We checked out the rest of the museum and there were a couple cool exhibits but it does seem like there should be more? The building is pretty spacious but each exhibits room feels like there could be more to it, if that makes sense? An exciting feature we weren't aware of until we saw the model upstairs was the Alexander Rock House. We followed the trails out back to the actual home and what a historic gem! We were able to walk through 2 floors of the actual house, another exterior building, the kitchen garden.. we then walked the path over the creek and to the spring house and then followed the trail back through the woods, along the creek, back to the museum. That was such a cool find!

Experiência positiva: The museum is very nice and clean. I thought the staff was very friendly and personable. Although I loved the items and information inside, I feel it needs to be expanded a bit more. I also would have loved a more in-depth look inside the historic buildings. Whether it be through photographs or specific windows to look inside. Hopefully, that gets added in the future. Overall, it was a quiet and nice experience. It has a lot of potential. They do offer military discounts to active duty members, which is nice.

Experiência positiva: The 1774 Alexander Rock House is the main attraction. The house is outside behind the museum. You have to pay for a guided tour to go inside. It was still worth the admission price to visit the homestead and museum even though we didn't get to go inside. A large portion of the first floor is dedicated to learning about the house; it was very interesting. The museum is relatively small. If you like to read absolutely everything be prepared to spend 4-5 hours. If you like to just quickly go along just looking and only reading when something grabs your attention then you're looking at more like 1.5 to 2 hours. Enjoy! There were lots of interesting facts about Charlotte, and the natives. We also learned a little about the state of North Carolina. Overall it was a good experience and worth it, we even bought a kids book about George Washington from the gift shop. My only complaints are because you don't get a map, or any explanation of the museum. You have to find your way to the gift shop, immediately to the right upon entering, to get your wristband and pay if you didn't buy tickets online. From there you are set on your way to figure it out on your own. We wouldn't have even known there was a house outside if I hadn't asked if we were able to leave and come back since we had wristbands. She said we couldn't leave the property, but could go outside because there was a house out there. Then we had to ask how to get outside. She showed us and said there was a bell outside and we could ring it, but would need permission. I guess we were supposed to ask her for permission right then and there because there was no one outside except for the person leading a group on a guided tour of the house. The bell was huge, think liberty bell. I would have liked to have rung the bell, but I feel I missed out on the opportunity due to the lack of clarity about the whole museum experience. Be sure to follow the trail in a loop all the way past the house and some other structures back to the museum. Again, the signage wasn't clear at all where to go. Once inside the museum is small and easy to find your way around. You find out what exhibit is there once you get there.

Experiência positiva: Fun museum. On the smaller side maybe four exhibits total. Signs are informative but lengthy. The historical house on site was interesting and the grounds were enjoyable to walk as well.

Experiência fantástica: Great museum in Charlotte, NC. Also here is the Hezekiah Alexander Homesite, and we really enjoyed the tour of it. Lots of history to be learned here dating back to 1774. If you get the chance to visit, I highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed.

Experiência fantástica: I took my 4.5 year old and 10 month old and we had THE BEST TIME! We walked around the property, had lunch, then played a bit in the child space before taking the guided tour with Nolan. I cannot even begin to tell you how outstanding and engaging Nolan was!! So much knowledge, so much fun, and clearly a lot of interest and passion for what he was sharing. The fact that my 4 year old hung out for over an hour was astounding. Thank you for such a fantastic experience. Overall a simple place, easy to get around, nice grounds. The giant bell that chimed on the tour was also a hit.

Experiência fantástica: I was visiting over from San Diego to see a friend and I was NOT disappointed when I came to visit! The museum was gorgeous and very informative, the staff handled everything very effectively and efficiently (especially Alea! Thanks again for helping me out and telling me where to visit while I was over there), and the history just felt like it came to life! Visit if you can and thanks for hosting me while I was there!
