Experiencia fantástica: There's few museums in the world like this. The architecture is just astonishing

Experiencia fantástica: I would like to speak to someone in Japan in regards to some lost artwork...she was the only person on the planet that did this type of art...her heritage was from Japan...her art work is currently in the Brisbane museum in Australia...her last name was Robert's...her husband was a WW11 veteran...she did silk embroidery...I also remember Tokyo as a child...

Experiencia fantástica: A very thought-provoking experience with a wide range of exhibits. Entry is very cheap too, especially if you’re a student - only 250 yen!

Experiencia fantástica: The museum is near the Imperial Palace, close to subway. There was a gaudi exhibition and the regular one. You start from last floor and go down. The museum is just enoughly sized to get a feeling of Japanese art. We could appreciate different types of art from older times.

Experiencia fantástica: They have room with view and also nice place to see collection. Very crowded during gaudi exhibition

Experiencia fantástica: I'm not a museum guy. But this one gets 5 stars in my book!! I was amazed at the eclectic collection of beautiful Japanese cultural items! One of the best we have ever visited.

Experiencia fantástica: Shinro Ohtake's first major retrospective exhibition of about 500 works in 16 years. Museum goods are also available.

Experiencia positiva: I thought that Ueno was the center of many national art museums and museums, but I was surprised to find one here! I thought, but recently I've been visiting the exhibition every time. It is always better to book your tickets online. Otherwise, it seems that you will always have to wait for admission restrictions. It was also nice that photography was allowed at this Gerhard Richter exhibition.

Mikle Solod 3 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Gerhard Richter exhibition was wonderful. A lot of space, nice organisation. And all 4 floors are available for you. I can highly recommend this museum

Experiencia fantástica: This is a small-scale museum housed in a great building with great layout in a great location. There are plenty of benches to sit on and rest your legs after touring each floor. The best pit stop is the area where you have a clear view of the Imperial Palace grounds. The souvenir shop offers different knickknacks for all kinds of visitors.

Experiencia fantástica: A great museum in the city, it has two sections one is for Modern art that costs only 500yen and the another section will depends on the event that they are doing and it will cost a lot. They mentioned that there is a restaurant inside but it wasn’t available In the Modern art section, each floor has some time period very at the top it was old and when you go down to the second floor it will be the present time period.

Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic layout for a musuem! I was able to download the app and read about the pieces of art through an app. I easily spent 5 hours inside viewing the floors of art. Bathrooms on each floor. Downfall, no vending machines so ensure you are well fed and maybe carry water on you. I used yen to pay the entrance fee at the door. I arrived via train. Lockers are available on first floor to store items.

Experiencia fantástica: I was able to take my time and appreciate the exhibits because the floor was spacious and there was plenty of room.

Experiencia positiva: I went to see the Kiyokata Kaburaki exhibition, but I was especially concerned about the usual vagueness of the exhibition route. I don't know if there's anything wrong with the structure of the building. If that's the case, at least I can't think of displaying the route with arrows... Also, I would like you to reconsider what it would be like to set up a video commentary space in the exhibition hall of the paintings. Even so, Kaburaki Kiyokata's Tsukiji Akashi-cho was a stunning painting of beautiful women.

Experiencia fantástica: Great museum! Got to see a nice exhibit about Kengo Kuma!

Experiencia fantástica: I visited during winter last year. A Beautiful place to relax and enjoy arts. The surrounding is pleasant to have a leisure walk in the afternoon too.

Experiencia fantástica: The museum is quite large, I think four levels of exhibits. Some of the MOMAT regular artworks were amazing. It's worth it to pay extra for the special exhibits they have on rotation. I don't know if they have any coin lockers, but beware that it will get really hot in there and you'll have to carry your coat. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed during New Years, so we didn't get to try.

Experiencia fantástica: Probably the best value for money you can get. For less than $5 an amazing museum. It's not big, and can easily be done in an hour or tw

Experiencia fantástica: A fine museum with an interesting and diverse collection. Very pleased to see white light leds in some of the spaces, I hope these will replace tungsten lighting in all areas soon. No cafe open during our visit. A modest gift shop.

Experiencia fantástica: The museum located near the Imperial Palace. It’s very quiet and beautiful area in the center of Tokyo. And this is Japan's first national art museum. You can feel the history from their architecture and you will find their huge beautiful collection. Their annex is crafts gallery just 5minis from museum by walk. Hope you enjoy as I did.

Experiencia fantástica: Really cool place. The exhibit that was booked for the evening was a lovely experience! Such incredible work and atmosphere, well worth the money for what you get for the price. Just check it out and see for yourself. Can’t say enough good things about this place :)

Experiencia fantástica: These days (until 6 October 2019) there is a wonderful exhibition on Japan animation legend Takahata Isao.

David Tran 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: It was my second visit to the MOMAT. This time they had an amazing exhibition about the work of famous animator Takahata Isao. The last time they had an exhibition about Japanese architecture. Both exhibitions were excellent!

Experiencia fantástica: Really great education on the history of Japanese art and its influences. The museum itself is beautiful and serene, perfect if you want to do an activity away from the crowds and recharge. Don't miss A Room With a View, on the 4F which is a beautiful sunlit space with a view of the city.

Experiencia fantástica: Really liked this museum! It’s not huge, but you can definitely spend an hour or two slowly making your way through the exhibits. First Sunday of the month is free admission to the main gallery (though you still have to pay for tickets if you want to see the special exhibitions). I went on the Sunday and it wasn’t crowded, so that was nice! Neat, interesting collection, recommended if you enjoy art museums.

Massimo Burhanuddin 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice art museum. They have a special exhibition, and the ticket for the special exhibition comes in with 2 other entrance tickets which is one of them is the craft museum entrance. What a deal! There is also a restaurant in the museum that has a course menu. Staff were friendly, but can be very strict. The food car outside was pretty good too. If you like art museum, I think this place is worth the visit. If you don't, just go to the imperial palace (park) which is a cross the street from the museum.

April Miller 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: A beautiful museum with so many great pieces to view. The seating space is gorgeous and a work of art in itself.

Adams_coffee 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite museums in Tokyo. Right nearby the imperial palace, make sure to visit both on the same tour!

Caterina Bassano 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Not too big but full of great art! 4 floors easy to navigate. We were lucky to go for free as it's free admission on the first Sunday of the month. There's a special exhibition right now (not free) about the work of Isao Takahata with anime masterpieces and it's wonderful, so much work displayed, sketches, paintings and more. Also, great views of the city from the terrace.

Experiencia fantástica: Nice museum! Some exhibits are free and others charge an admission fee ranging from 500-1200yen

Courtney Beck 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: A perfect and relaxing day at the museum! The exhibits were all great and distinctive in explaining different periods of Japanese history.

Luis Gustavo Buriola 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Great medium size museum. Ticket also allows you to visit the crafts gallery which is in the same park but in a different building 7 minutes walking.

Ronald Murni 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: It's free every first Sunday every month. So I went here to try. It has 4 floors & you started from the top to bottom. You'll see from classic into something more progressive / modern. It's very well maintained & coordinated, it has the right atmosphere to enjoy the art. I highly recommend you to try visiting this museum.

Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful museum across the street from the Imperial Palace East Garden (features an exhibit as well- photography not allowed- free admission) and down the street from Ueno Park. It featured twelve rooms of different exhibits, shown below are a few of my favorites. The ticket also includes admission to the Crafts Gallery. Photography is allowed. A definite must!

Experiencia fantástica: The museum showcases works of Japanese artists, and Western artists that inspired them. Chronologically arranged from the late 1800s to the present day, it's a really interesting look at how art developed in Japan at the same time as Europe was going through impressionism, and all the styles that followed after. I really loved seeing how Japanese artists combined traditional styles and techniques from Japan and Europe.
