Experiencia fantástica: Visited the newly built and opened part of the gallery. Not really my thing but was surprised by the works on display. Will definitely go back

Experiencia fantástica: Such a stunning gallery! I love Yiribana Gallery which is displaying works from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art collection, Yiribana acknowledges the location of the Art Gallery on Gadigal Country.

Experiencia fantástica: First time I have visited the Art Gallery of NSW and it is amazing. There is something for everyone to enjoy no matter what your taste is. I particularly enjoyed the Australian art section. There is a lot of art to see, so you’ll need to allow plenty of time.

Experiencia fantástica: Great way to learn more about Australian artists. Try to join the guided tours as they help curate the key highlights from the Gallery.

Experiencia fantástica: The art gallery is such a lovely place to visit. There are amazing works of art to see and a cute gift shop with an assortment of items. There is parking a short walk for the buildings that is a bit pricey. The staff are lovely and these are places to put your bags.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently photographed a wonderful wedding at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and it was awesome. We were able to walk through the art gallery after hours and do some wedding photos of the couple. It was closed to the public so we had the place to ourselves which was great. The wedding reception took place in the restaurant which was modern and sophisticated. Overall it was a wonderful wedding and a great experience.

Experiencia fantástica: During my recent visit to the NSW Art Gallery, I was completely enchanted by the experience. The displays were incredibly diverse and truly captivated my imagination. From the awe-inspiring works of established artists to the innovative pieces from emerging artists, the artistry on display was truly impressive. Even the architecture of the gallery added a unique charm to the whole experience. If you have an appreciation for art and design, this gallery is an absolute must-visit.

Experiencia fantástica: No waiting, no tiket (free, except special exhibition) they just ask whereare you from at the entrance gate. If you love art you must spare 3 hours or more for strolling the museum.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently revisited the gallery and went to the newly opened part, I was so impressed! It's beautiful, modern, spacious and had some fantastic artwork when I went. The staff were all helpful and I would highly recommend a visit!

Experiencia fantástica: First visit to Art Gallery of NSW in five years due to Covid and illness and wow has it changed! As a retired art teacher the gallery has always been a teaching resource and I have missed going to exhibitions and the permanent collection at the Gallery. The new North building is now open and the old South building has been made over with so many changes- all good. The collections have been arranged thematically as well as stylistically with traditional, modern, indigenous and contemporary artworks displayed together. Influences- cultural, gender and identity, appropriation, innovative and varied 2D,3D and 4D media displayed together. This makes the Gallery experience totally engaging, interactive and enjoyable. Ken Unsworth's sculpture "Circle of Stones", Aboriginal group of "Pukumani Grave Posts" and many other artworks have been relocated within the Gallery to showcase them at there best. The ArtExpress exhibition was also on display showcasing the talents of HSC students from last year. The diversity, innovative use of media and creative interpretations of subjects such as identity, emotion, personal interests, Covid, the Environment and diaspora was sophisticated and skillful. The display this year was spread out over level 2 in divided areas that gave each artwork or body of work the room needed to appreciate each work individually. We also enjoyed lunch at the Gallery cafe and shopping in the Gallery shops. Unfortunately we ran out of time to see the rest of the North building but will return soon. The curators and staff have done an amazing job revitalizing the Gallery and bringing it into the 21st century.

Experiencia fantástica: free admission and enjoyed a fun and educational day with the whole family. Very impressive and interesting artists from different countries. highly recommended. They also have limited kids session as well, only can book in person though.

Experiencia fantástica: The new building is absolutely sensational and the exhibitions are amazing. The architecture really speaks for itself and provides a futuristic yet cosy style. The navigation was somewhat tricky but there were plenty of staff to assist along the way. The gift shop has some nice bits. Most exhibits are access friendly except for one. Very much enjoyed the time we spent here. Great addition to the main Gallery

Experiencia fantástica: Just go. Free and wonderful experience. Spent over 2 hours here and barely got through half of it! Allow at least 3-4 hrs plus more for the second building.

Experiencia fantástica: Accessible for the public, good places for anyone who wants to know about history and art. You may get some inspiration and insight from it. They got two buildings and an excessive exhibition with a vast range of themes. Spent 3-4 hours if you only select a few artworks to have a detailed look at. The information is detailed about each artwork, the artist, and the history or possible meanings behind the creation. Got cafes inside each building, which allow you to get refreshments and rest yourself. Seats are available around the whole gallery, which is nice. Impressed by galleries related to Aboriginal people and LGBT+, one with artworks created by high school students during Covid-19. I went when Wednesday since they will have longed opening hours.

Experiencia fantástica: Love it here - the walk in through the domain is gorgeous, so many exhibits and love that they change quite frequently. Any event I’ve attended at the art gallery is very enriching. Also one of my favorite things - they often have free movies on Wednesday nights and on the weekend. Always cool classic movies. The eating places inside and right outside are great too.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a wonderful museum. It has a great deal of Australian artists, but a nice smattering of other pieces. The second building that houses more contemporary art, and a number of installations that were very interactive. The special exhibit on houses was awesome. I highly recommend to his museum. Admission is free for all.

Experiencia fantástica: I went to this gallery with my friends from design school, and I enjoyed this trip a lot. There are a few collections on exhibition at this moment, I have posted some photos of the works I saw and liked from this show. Most of their works on show now are modern art, and I would highly recommend the clay meditation. You can grab a handful of clay, and sit at a massive table for as long as you want, meanwhile you will make a clay ball, focusing all your thoughts into the clay ball. You leave the clay ball at the table, and your mind becomes part of this art work. I sat there for 20 minutes, reflected on my life and how much I have improved as a person.

Experiencia fantástica: I am an American tourist visiting Sydney this week and Art Gallery of New South Wales IS A MUST SEE. First off, admission is FREE. Second, you are going to be in Hyde Park and the Opera House and Art Gallery of NSW is not a far walk to do all in one afternoon. Third, it is EXCELLENT. Even if you only spend 1-2 hours, which I believe to be ample, Art Gallery of New South Wales is a treasure trove, centrally-located in the Domain park area near Sydney's Central Business District. On the ground level, you can find paintings by Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet and Francis Bacon, amongst many, many others. I didn't know much about Australian art, so this was very informative and well laid-out. Some museums can feel very stressful, but Art Gallery of New South Wales does not. I was particularly pleased with the William Hogarth mini-exhibit in one of the small galleries off the side of the main exhibition hall. The museum offers 20 etchings based on his sardonic stories, which were told through drawings. Kind of like 1700s style MANGA! You will find the stories a real hoot - featuring drunkenness, bad morals and falls from grace - but always with a social message. I especially enjoyed the Art Express downstairs, which is comprised mainly of art from students in high school and university. Their cafe is also lovely with an outdoor terrace. Prices were extremely reasonable.

Experiencia fantástica: The new North building is just WOW! I had the pleasure of telling the staff as I was leaving that this was one of the most uplifting experiences to enjoy. Beautiful architecture. Thoughtful and engaging displays. World class.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I have just taken our nieces (5 & 3) to the Gallery of NSW. The kids described it as "the best day ever". Not only did they love exploring the building and looking at all the art but thanks to some wonderful volunteers they learnt a lot as well. The volunteers made them feel extra special with their bags of stickers so they could make their own Yayoi Kusama inspired art to take home. Core memory made.

Experiencia fantástica: Always a great experience here. The New North Building is filled with Aboriginal and Modern Art. Very airy with high ceilings and lots of light and open space. 4 floors down is ‘The Tank’ an experiential semi-dark exhibition in an underground WW2 fuel tank.

Experiencia fantástica: First visit in the North building. It’s a very modern design. Inside is more interesting than outside, the interior design —- space, color and material are really Aussie style—- simple, humble and functional. The Tank , in level-4, felt a bit depressing. The “Dreamhome” is very impressive, we like it very much. The cafe——is the barista an artist as well? Very beautiful pattern made by the cream and the taste is one of the best in the town.

Experiencia fantástica: The new modern North building hold some great exhibitions. It is a museum I like to visit a few times a year. I highly recommend visiting both North and South buildings.

Experiencia fantástica: The building itself is interesting, with a very modern interior and old exterior. The receptionist was lovely and helpful, all the staff were really kind and welcoming. The art was amazing! The collections were large and interesting compared to other galleries in Australia. The spaces were well laid out and there was a range so that everyone would find something interesting. The cafe also had good options and was decently priced. Ordering online directly to your table is simple and easy. I was surprised how well functioning the whole museum was.

Experiencia fantástica: Loved seeing the Art Express exhibition, and exploring the new south building. Make sure you find your way to the bottom floor, 'the tank' and experience the exhibition down there.... Very impressed Sydney. I brought parking at Wilson Domain parking, it was $12 from 9.30-2.30pm on a Saturday. You can walk to the gallery from there in 5mins, and takes the stress out of hoping to find something on the streets.

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to learn about all sorts of art, from paintings to sculptures to aboriginal and modern art - I adore this place. Most of the art is proudly done by Australian artists too. The placements of the art is done well in a sense that there is a theme to it. Entrance is free. There's a cloakroom to check your bag in. There's a free tour group that you can join but I'm not exactly sure what time it goes.

Experiencia fantástica: We visited the new art gallery. Absolutely loved it. The architecture itself is awesome. There is so much to see and explore. We particularly liked the Aboriginal art section. The way all the art is displayed is modern and contemporary. A visit is highly recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: The Art Gallery's new installations in their North building are phenomenal and definitely not something to sleep on. All floors had intriguing and beautiful art pieces, so I highly recommend you try and see everything the building had to offer. I recommend making an effort to view "The Tank" as it was incredibly breathtaking and am outstanding experience. The gift shop near the entrance is also a wonder as it has wonderful merchandise of some of my favourite art pieces. Staff members were all also incredibly nice and accommodating.

Experiencia fantástica: Great exhibitions and the space was set up quite nicely. Great for family and group of friends to visit. They also have 2 cafe restaurants inside the art gallery with the royal botanic garden views which both were packed at the time of my visit.

Experiencia fantástica: The Art Gallery of NSW is absolutely lovely! It has art from different parts of the world, including European, Asian and aboriginal works. Next to that, it’s very well organized and the information next to the paintings are useful. The entry is free, however you need to pay if you wish to visit an additional exposition, which constantly changes.

Experiencia fantástica: I skipped the Archibald exposition and really enjoyed seeing the permanent collections and the building itself. In December 2022 when the new building opens it is truly going to be a spectacular attraction. The restaurant has a great view over the city and laudable dining. Entry during construction is a bit convoluted especially during rainy days, be careful!

Alex H. 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: An outstanding gallery, truly the mainstay of Sydney’s art scene. The remodelling of their classic rooms is a must see once fully reopened, and the Archibald always attracts significant talent and some truly breathtaking portraits. Also don’t sleep on the free exhibits downstairs - oftentimes there are some understated and lesser-known (read: not mainstream enough for the average/passive consumers of art) artists displaying real killer stuff.

KK 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Love coming here for the special exhibits. The permanent exhibits quite good too- best place to spend the day if you are bored , so much to see and there's food here too which ain't too badly priced. Clean, well maintained, air conditioned and spacious. Currently building a new section so I can't wait to see it when it's done!
