Experiencia fantástica: The museum may be a far from downtown Tokyo but it’s well worth it. It’s modern and beautiful. I’m a grown man and I loved it. But it’s all the little boys running around with their train theme clothes or shoes excited what’s around the corner that really tells you how special this place is.

Experiencia fantástica: Very fun experience, enough exhibits to spend a full day. Non-Japanese speakers have the translator ready.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m not exaggerating when I say, I think this is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to! We took the train out from Tokyo to check this out and it was fantastic. You can easily spend hours and hours here. Plenty to see and do for both young and old!

Experiencia fantástica: Best edutainment at Omiya. They bring you the historic of Japan Railway and also first shinkansen ever built - Shinkansen 0. Some more, you may learn few locomotive train and electric train which is built since 1900 until now. There is a section for old and futuristic. My kids love to being here because he is train enthusiast. He's always watching shinkansen on Youtube and glade can reach here on Feb 2023 Ticket price is 1330yen for adult and 1060 for kids. You can purchase ticket on counter itself.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been to dozens of the most famous railway museums in the world, from Europe and the UK to all over the US and this is without a doubt one of the finest in the world. A global tour of railroad museums is not complete without experiencing this one here. It's about a 30 minute train ride from Tokyo. 5 Star ✨ all the way.

Experiencia fantástica: You need to buy the entrance ticket at the convenience stores such as Lawson , Mini stop or Seven Eleven in advance. If you book one day before your visit, you get a little bit of discount.

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent for train enthusiasts. Plenty of trains on display. There are also bento displays, science areas etc. As an overseas tourist I did find the ticketing a little confusing, as far as I could tell, you must book in advance and select a time and cannot get tickets at the museum. I managed to book on the day I went at 9am for an 11am slot at a Lawsons Convenience store near my hotel which can be a little hard with a language barrier. It is also about 45 minutes from central Tokyo. I do prefer the Kyoto Museum also.

Experiencia fantástica: A very extensive railroad museum. Many real trains are on display. There are also many attractions such as driving experience. Both adults and children can enjoy the whole day and learn a lot.

Experiencia fantástica: An amazing museum! Full size, authentic trains you can see up close. You can even practice driving a train on a couple of simulators. A very fun and educational place to learn about trains and the evolution or rail transportation in Japan.

Experiencia fantástica: We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and size of this museum. There are many genuine, full size large train cars and engines on display from different eras of Japan, several of which visitors can board. The exhibit areas are large and allow for great photos, and there are viewing areas for trains passing by, including the Shinkansen line. It's important to reserve tickets in advance, though we were able to buy them at 7-Eleven across the street from the museum. During our visit, a few interactive exhibits were closed for social distancing, including the miniature train that children can normally ride.

Experiencia fantástica: We went with the family, and everyone enjoyed it. It is a three story museum, and you can spend all day there. Lots of trains, old and new, are displayed on the first floor. There is a huge diorama on the second floor. They run the show (move all the trains) starting every hour for 10 minutes with descriptions in Japanese. It is well worth seeing it. There are the science area on the second and third floor, and kids can learn about some parts of the train by actually experiencing it. The history section offers how the train systems in Japan have been developed. There are a few restaurants and souvenir shops in the museum. Prices are pretty reasonable. I highly recommend to visit this museum if you are interested in the trains. There are a lots to see and experience. They have simulators for subway lines and shinkansen with a fee.

Experiencia fantástica: First of all, I suggested that to receive the driver's ticket first when you come in the museum. It's very joyful for everyone but just for once while you get the ticket to follow as scheduled. Secondly, to visit the speed train history, you can experience different train culture and feel amazing, because of those train's technology, making progress year by year, so trains can connect with every part of area. Thirdly, outdoor have a broad range and full scale really train, you should take some pictures. At last to go around the specific exhibitions in every rooms there, having short movie, pleasure grounds, especially the collection of train works, such as music, movies, comics, novels and so on. I have a great idea, if you don't like the food there you can go outside to eat MATSUYA FOODS and come back agsin, just have a museum stamp on your hand. The MATSUYA restaurant is nearby museum about 10 minute can be arrived by walk.

Experiencia fantástica: This train museum has something for everyone. From the toddler that is interested in trains, to the adult train enthusiast. There are real, retired trains that you are allowed to enter and sit in, ranging from the old school steam locomotives, to the first models of the shinkansen. There are mini trains for kids to ride, a playground with train themed playstructures, and a Plarail toy train track play area. There are several restaurants, one for kids, one a bit more fancy, and several trains that serve as "lunch rooms" in which you can eat your bentos. There is a huge room with a real Hayabusa train, where you can also learn how to drive trains and subways, as well as going through the the preliminary actual training for becoming a train or subway driver. Many of these activities are age limited, and require separate tickets handed out upon arrival (first come, first served). I would totally come back here more often if this museum was closer to where we live in Tokyo. As it stands, it is about 1+ hr to get there, and it can be a challenge with a 3 year old. However, he seemed to love it.

Experiencia fantástica: There were mini train ride for kids, big train simulations for adults. Family friendly and fun for all ages. My lunch was at the Viewing Restaurant. Curry rice was good. From now to March 2019, get package ticket from green JR ticket counters. Entrance + round ticket shinkansen from Shinagawa is 3920yen only.

Experiencia fantástica: I want to go this place a lot (in my personality). At last a have a chance. And I'm not disappoint in this place. This museum is so great! It has a lot of train to show, and every train have an own history (don't worry it has an English text). First time I think I will spend a time in this place about hour, but I used a time to enjoy with this place more than 3 hours! I'm so proud to have a chance to see a once time history of the train that still alive.

Experiencia fantástica: An absolutely fantastic railway museum! Great fun for kids and also adults. Biggest model trains landscape we have seen. So many real and model trains. Don't forget to have lunch in dining train carriages. Cool train simulators, but Shinkansen simulator needs a pass. Remember to grab a pass with time slot assigned as soon as you arrive. We knew the mini train driving requiring the pass and got one as soon as we arrived about 10:30am. And the timeslot was 3:30pm-4pm! We purchased special package including a set of Shinkansen return tickets between Ueno and Imitation and local train fares, plus special IC card holder and Japan train network map. Strongly recommended to family with kids.

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to take kids of any age. Crowded on weekends but not too busy. Great new bullet train exposition. There are train cars you can eat inside, but they are crowded at lunch time. If you wait until a little after 1 then can get a seat inside them. There is a convenience store outside the main gate you can take your own food inside. On the roof you can watch the bullet trains go by.

Experiencia fantástica: Really nice location for a family day. Tons of interesting things to do and activities to join. Some activities are on a time schedule so it’s important to plan ahead to get the most out of your visit. I went on a weekday and it was fairly busy but I could see it be extremely busy/crowded on the weekends and/or holidays. Some of the more popular activities have time tickets to prevent overcrowding, this is also something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

Experiencia fantástica: A truly meaningful museum which should pay for a visit. The museum is so huge with plenty of trains from old times to the most advanced one. There are quite a lot of “designated area” for interactive learning or participation like train simulator, ticket office etc.. the observation deck is also the best place to view different types of shinkensen.

Experiencia fantástica: This place is really cool for all ages. Worth the money and trip out of Tokyo (20 minutes by Shinkansen from Tokyo Station). Museum is well organized, has a good selection of rolling stock, many displays have English, and many interactive stations. You can enter and touch many of the trains. You can even eat inside several trains that are air conditioned. For the smaller kids, there are several floors of interactive stations at the science center portion and a play area on 1st floor. Outside, parents can buy tickets for the kids to ride in a miniature semi-controlled train. Many kids loved the experience they were crying because they didn't want to leave. It was funny to watch. They also have a free mini-Shinkansen that is free but it only goes straight and then goes backwards. At certain times, there are demonstrations. The coolest one was when they rotated the steam train twice on the turn table and simulated the train whistle. There are two cafes and one restaurant. We bought two plastic train bento boxes. Food was blah but wanted the plastic Shinkansen trains. Eating inside one of the trains for our lunch was cool though.

Experiencia fantástica: The best train museum. My first impression was, why is the price 1000円?Turns out there are 3 floors to explore and it will take you 4h to explore everything. you can ride on old trains, and there is even a simulator. so its worth the price.

Experiencia fantástica: Very educational museum, lots of trains on display and can see how does the rail system evolved in Tokyo. Love the outdoor mini train park. Adults and children able to drive their own train on the track. Excellent place if you like trains. Most displays are only in Japanese tho.

Wade Hindell 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Not only does this place have a great selection of rolling stock. It also has an amazing timeline of the history of trains in Japan which includes many great models. We managed to spend over 4 hours here looking round. There is a great train driving simulator and also a small train driving track for kids which we actually had a go on as well. Lots of fun to be had here.

Experiencia fantástica: You'll love this museum if you like trains. You can sit in old wooden creepy trains or the first shinkansen train. They also display the imperial train which is really pretty. I also like the old tickets and advertisements displayed upstairs. There are two restaurants inside with ramen and Japanese style Western food. You can get train bentos outside and sit in some of the old train cars to eat, where a conductor will clip museum memorabilia tickets just like on a real train! This is very kid friendly place, which can be kind of hard to find in the Tokyo area. While there is only some written English, they have added additional info in other languages if you have a QR code reader on your phone.
