🗣️ Museo y Galería de Arte de Derby: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic little museum with lots of different things to see. Really nice cafe and staff very friendly
Experiencia positiva: Like the idea of items manufactured in Derby set in an interesting way. The gates outside a nice touch. Cafe and toilets on site , well worth a visit.
Experiencia positiva: Free entry. Worth a visit.
Experiencia fantástica: My son and I was in Derby so we visited. He loved it. Very educational and insightful for a 10yr old
Experiencia fantástica: I visited here recently with my daughter, due to attending one of the planned summer activities “Make a Shabti or Saracophagus”. On arrival we first went to the cafe for a drink & piece of cake. There was plenty of seating to choose from & it was good to see the museum items in the cafe too. After finishing in the cafe, we had a walk around the museum, with my daughter being particularly interested in room containing the animals. We then went onto the planned activity & were greeted by two lovely ladies. They gave us the clay, then explained about what & how we could make the Egyptian figures, along with giving us all the necessary tools. Once we finished, one of the ladies helped to pack them up, for us to take home & then helped me gather everything up before leaving. I will definitely be back in the future, keeping an eye out for more activities.
Experiencia fantástica: Lovely place and exhibits
Experiencia positiva: Free to go in and great museum
Experiencia fantástica: JEHOVAH 1ST FLOOR
Experiencia fantástica: It was a really nice place to visit with your toddler especially the 1st floor.
Experiencia fantástica: Bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Very interesting and diverse collection that you normally wouldn't expect from an art gallery.
Experiencia fantástica: Love the exhibitions on the top floor.
Experiencia fantástica: Staff are lovely and the exhibits are excellent.
Experiencia fantástica: Fab little place but the cafe is a little slow even for just tea and toast but worth the wait
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent experience. Knowledgeable staff, fascinating collection of artefacts.
Experiencia fantástica: Love architecture like this. If you close eyes , for a moment you can imagine living there at that time. Enough to give screen starers a heart attack
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing location to visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum for free
Experiencia positiva: Really enjoyed our visit. A wide range of exhibits. The only marr on the visit was the cafe there. We liked the sound of the cream tea but alas we stood and waited but the woman totally blanked us as if we did not exist.
Experiencia fantástica: There is a fascinating selection of artefacts, from military memorabilia to animals to the paintings of Joseph Wright. There are areas for children, quiet areas, and helpful staff. The café was a very welcome start! Thanks.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent organised set of exhibitions on variety of topics
Experiencia fantástica: I wonderful place to take children to have a look around, always crafts on in school holidays.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful museum with quite a lot displayed. Well worth a visit for an hour or so.
Experiencia fantástica: Joseph Wright gallery, wildlife, Roman Archaeology, oriental and military exhibition. Too much for one day.
Experiencia fantástica: Loved it. A lot more to see than the Museum of Making. My son was captivated by the Joseph Wright Gallery and the guide was so knowledgeable about his art. The soldiers gallery was great, especially the section on the trenches. Son loved to dress up as a solider and use the periscope to peer into no-man's land. Well curated and contextualised colonial gallery and the mummies are spell binding. The Bonnie Prince Charlie room was interesting, but could do with something more to engage/entertain children. Love the bird mural up the stairs. Good shop, clean accessible toilets. Allow atleast 2 hours, but could do twice that.
Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic range of exhibits and artefacts on display. There were a few activities and crafts for children set up and an interactive Lego hunt. A beautiful array of paintings too. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and learnt so much.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing visit to the museum today. There was a fantastic Easter holiday arts and crafts session taking place. Graeme's ease and humour when making angels with my niece was the highlight of our day. Highly recommend the museum overall and Heidi and Graeme in particular.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent place to visit. Staff helpful. Loads of interesting stuff .
Experiencia fantástica: Saturday opened 1008. Small but some great, well-presented stuff
Experiencia positiva: The displays were varied and really interesting. The only disappointment was the ceramic display cases being within the cafeteria, and many were unlit. This is a large museum with so many exhibits you need to allow plenty of time for your visit. Unfortunately, there is not much interaction with displays, so children may become bored. All credit to Derby City Council for keeping entry free, as it does with its other excellent museums.
Experiencia fantástica: Always a good place to come. Been coming here since I was a child. Love this place
Experiencia fantástica: Wow, what a great little museum. Lots of fascinating stuff here. We came for the Joseph Wright paintings, but there is so much more to see. There's a natural history section, local regimental memorabilia, a brilliant archaeological section, preserved specimens in formaldehyde - they even have some mummies!! Fabulous place with friendly staff. It's free admission, but donations are most welcome, and obviously help with the upkeep etc. A little gem of a place. We'll be back when next in the area. Many thanks
Experiencia fantástica: Great place considering it's free or a small donation if you can.
Experiencia fantástica: Used to go every day almost when I was at college, as it was a few steps away basically, and they always got new stuff in abt every month or so, made some memories here too.
Experiencia positiva: Nice little museum. Educational. I especially enjoyed the Joseph Wright paintings.
Experiencia fantástica: A small museum but very well presented. Interesting mix of exhibits.
Experiencia fantástica: Nice day out, good exhibits and friendly staff! Great for young children too and accessible to pushchairs on all floors. Free to enter.
Experiencia fantástica: Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fabulous Joseph Wright collection.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to visit, Paintings of Joseph Wright alone is worth vsiting this place, Very friendly and caring staff...
Experiencia fantástica: Nice place to visit.. I saw some Egyptian mummy
Experiencia fantástica: Love walking through whenever I'm in Derby City, they have quite a bit on display. When I last went all they asked for was a small donation and you can still enter even if you don't make a donation. Staff are lovely and the café is worth a visit when you're done walking around.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing museum! Looks really small on the outside but spans really far back! Lots of wonderfully informative and carefully curated exhibits. Would reccomend everyone going. Make a great family day out or just for a small group. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Will go again!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing place to visit very clean warm very helpful staff .a place of history it's a small museum with a lot of subjects to view .would highly recommend that anyone visit will call again wen in the area.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent museum with extensive displays and supporting information. Large building so plenty of space often used by local schools for educational purposes. Adjoining art gallery of works by local portrait artist Joseph Wright which was an eye opener. Some fine work and interesting story of his life. Also smaller display of work by Marion Adnams. Small cafe in ground floor. Free entry but donations accepted
Experiencia positiva: It seems like a small local museum, but much bigger inside. It tries to be everything that is important to local education, but I am not sure taxidermied animals are important in this internet user century. On the other hand, the archaeology, architecture, and thematic collections are great. The Joseph Wright room is fantastic, and the description around is great.
Experiencia fantástica: Exquisite seventeenth century porcelain created in a bygone age. One off pieces. Quite amazing and telling historically significant stories!
Experiencia fantástica: Lovely time walking around the exhibits, would definitely visit again and recommend.
Experiencia positiva: Use car park nearby, then get ticket validated at the Museum and save money. Museum is very good. Lord the roman artifacts and the log boat.
Experiencia fantástica: An afternoon visit to the museum meant we didn't have time for a drink in the cafe. We spent an hour and a half looking around the many exhibits but came mainly for the Joseph Wright room. Our questions were answered by the knowledgeable staff on hand and the paintings were very impressive in scale and beauty. There's a great gift shop on the ground floor on entry with locally made gifts. If you visit Derby then it's certainly worth a visit
Experiencia fantástica: Derby Museum & Art Gallery is awesome! So much cool history and art stuff. Loved checking out the old things and the fancy paintings. The interactive stuff is fun too! If you're into history or art, you gotta go check it out – seriously, it's a blast!
Experiencia fantástica: The Joseph Wright art gallery was a fascinating sight, I didn't want to leave. The attendants were very friendly and ready to assist by showing you round, the war artillery was another wonderful sight. A very clean and neatly arranged works of art.
Experiencia fantástica: Worth a visit with many different artifacts from around the world. The Joseph Wright Exhibition was a highlight, though the gallery has several fabulous pieces permanently in situ too. A little heavy on the anti-British Empire stance, which is a tad disappointing. Its a museum, which always used to be there to display history, not give its own warped, anachronistic slant but I've seen worse things foisted on the general public, so if you can happily roll your eyes to yourself whilst enjoying the overall experience, don't miss out.
Experiencia fantástica: A fantastic free museum with everything from the stunning collection of Joseph Wright paintings to mummys!
Experiencia fantástica: Very interesting museum covering many topics if interest and also houses a lovely art gallery
Experiencia fantástica: Really great friendly museum, interesting for adults and kids. The top floor open space was a welcome break when visiting a museum.
Experiencia fantástica: I'm amazed when I knowing entry is absolutely free in this masterpiece area. Very amazing experience held in museum and art gallery. Very informative tour.
Experiencia fantástica: Great educational and fun place to visit with children. Really friendly helpful staff and a lovely cafe too. free entry too, which is rare nowadays.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent educational trip for the children. They have fun activities for kids like the Lego trail. Friendly helpful staff. Would highly recommend it. Free entry or a donation.
Experiencia fantástica: I've visited Derby museum several times over the past few years. It's always interesting and has quite a few different exhibits. My kids love the animals and insects and the mummy exhibit and War room are very interesting.
Experiencia fantástica: This museum is amazing!! So glad we decided to visit. The favourite of the children were all the animals in display. We were here for a good hour but probably could have spent longer with there being so much to see. Didn't visit the cafe but the selection of cakes on offer looked delicious! Will definitely be back for another visit. If travelling in, the Parksafe car park was less than a 5 minute walk away and a really good car park.
Experiencia positiva: I especially liked the art gallery section, with works by Joseph Wright of Derby. I would recommend spending at least an hour here to look around. Gift shop included.
Experiencia fantástica: Having been to Derby and only going shopping or out to the restaurant been passed the Derby Museum & Art Gallery looking at the outside it looks like a small Museum but when entering the property it lot more. Bigger than in size, I was very impressed with the size of the Museum loads of interesting, different features, vikings, and military history, plus other parts of the world culture history .I would recommend that you visit the Derby Museum and Art.
Experiencia fantástica: Always worth a visit. So lucky to have such an excellent museum so close to my home.
Experiencia fantástica: What a great day out for the kids , a lost treasure and air conditioned with comfortable chairs to watch your children play in a toy room. Nice for a coffee in the Cafe too
Experiencia fantástica: Interesting museum and for us particularly worth going to see Joseph Wright paintings. The way he was able to portray light in his work. Amazing .
Experiencia fantástica: Fascinating place to visit, great staff and guides very helpful and the layout was easy to understand and follow. Found the art exhibition and war history very interesting but enjoyed all other exhibitions too. Coffee shop was reasonably priced and a good selection would highly recommend a visit.
Experiencia fantástica: I often come to the Museum. Joseph Wright Gallery, he's one of my favourite artists. There's the natural history display, which is interesting to animals & insects I like the Egyptian mummy. The military display is interesting too. Its well worth a visit, there's a lot more to see than what I've mentioned
Experiencia fantástica: A great free museum with very good displays of the development of Derby and district through the ages, from prehistoric times, to the present day. Special exhibitions are held at various times throughout the year. For example early in the year there was one on the works of Hogarth.
Experiencia fantástica: Loved it at this museum. Took my 2, 4 and 6 year olds and they enjoyed it too. There is a play area on the top floor which had Aircon which was very welcome when we went on the hottest day of the year. Loads to look at and the cafe is very lovely too with very good coffee.
Experiencia positiva: Small museum. The highlight the Joseph Wright picture gallery. Lovely background drawings available in chest to see. Helpful custodians.
Experiencia fantástica: I've been to the museum quite a few times in my life the exhibitions are largely the same. Worthwhile looking at Joseph wrights paintings :)
Experiencia positiva: Older style museum/gallery - think 'things in cases' and panelled rooms. Does stuff like local archaeology and wildlife well. Also small regimental museum. Stand-out feature has to be the hanging of Joseph Wright's brilliant experiments painting light and his important portrait studies of C18th Midlands worthies and proto-industrialists. City centre site now feels a bit caseworn in the shadow of the recently launched Museum of Making in the spacious Silk Mill premises.
Experiencia fantástica: Donations,no entry fee. Helpful friendly staff. Much bigger than appears from outside. Amongst other things they have Egyptian mummies. A longboat. And small dinasaur.
Experiencia positiva: Small museum. We popped in for half an hour to view the new Joseph Wright paintings. The Joseph Wright gallery is excellent and we enjoyed our visit. We looked at one or two things while there but didn't have time for a full tour.
Experiencia fantástica: Pretty cool museum and art gallery with some famous artworks. The ancient log boat was my favourite. The staff were helpful and super nice as well.
Experiencia fantástica: it looks small from the outside, but there are a lot of things to see. the collection s of different bugs, butterflies... are impressive. it got some paintings there too. kids and I liked the corner for children to play and to sit down to read books. staff there are kind and helpful.
Experiencia fantástica: I love going here. I took my friend who had lived in Derby for 30 years and had no idea it existed. Derby and the Shire has so much history! Well worth a visit
Experiencia positiva: Café had tasty scones and friendly service. We met friends there. Then we did a great visit of the Joseph Wright room. Which was shortly to be closed.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to visit for all ages. Highly recommend the onsite cafe for freshly prepared food and a good variety of drinks. Vegan and vegetarians catered for
Experiencia fantástica: Great little museum. Some historic and natural history stuff and a really good military history display. Nice cafe too.
Experiencia fantástica: Travelled especially for the Joseph Wright exhibition. Was welcomed warmly by the staff
Experiencia fantástica: A great place to visit, free to enter but donations are welcome which helps fund the fantastic multiple room displays. They provide entertainment for children and there is a great array of things to see.
Experiencia positiva: Had a brilliant time with my grandchildren. The only thing missing is a more detailed map of the museum and the meaning of everything to explain to the children what it all is.
Experiencia positiva: Love the spectacular scenery but I will have to knock it down a star for the secret explosives! I love the curry, gave it a few kisses before munching it, but wow I did not expect to leave as a walking bomb. I suppose that's just Jim giving me my money's worth. Love ya
Experiencia positiva: Interesting assortment of exhibits that is definitely worth a look. There is no entry fee so what have you got to lose? Why not visit and, if you like it, leave them a voluntary donation.
Experiencia fantástica: An excellent talk on the Jacobite Rebellion, 1745 held in the fantastic Joseph Wright gallery. Followed by a very interesting exhibition on Hogarth. A super museum. Great facilities.
Experiencia positiva: Visited the Gallery with my granddaughter specifically to view the Wright of Derby exhibition, only to be told the Gallery was closed for repair of the roof. Informed the work would be ongoing until at least February 2023. The visit had been made specifically in relation to a Year 10 homework project set at her school. The rest of the displays were unaffected however, some of which she found interesting.
Experiencia positiva: Popped in with my 3 year old granddaughter. She enjoyed the stuffed animals the most ... I loved the gallery, having lived in 3 Strutt homes ... Definitely worth a visit and it's free , thank you Derby
Experiencia fantástica: Forgotten what a gem of a museum and art gallery this is. Stunning paintings by Joe Wright and a wel curated exhibition of Hogarth's work. All free too, make a donation if you can, these places need supporting
Experiencia fantástica: Derby Museum and Art Gallery is one of the jewels of Derby City Centre. It has a wealth of permanent displays and often has different displays on the top floor. Every single time I have visited, every single staff member has been super helpful and friendly.
Experiencia positiva: It was very interesting and different. A lot of the emphasis seemed to be on description of the item rather than what it did. There was relatively little visual information on the history of the building itself, which would have been interesting. Perhaps I am slow on the uptake but I has to ask a volunteer about the top floor storage room. Until he explained the 'look up system ' I had no idea - sort of missing an opportunity a bit. I feel the labelling and information packs have been put together by the people who know ( not surprisingly) but they have not adequately tested to ensure the message gets across easily to those that don't know. Still relatively early days however. Child interaction seemed limited unless in organised groups but again perhaps I just missed something. Worth a look.
Experiencia fantástica: You can learn a lot history from this museum,a place you have to go in Derby
Experiencia positiva: Went to see the William Hogarth exhibition. Both myself and my son ended up with headaches as the lighting was very low and had to squint to see the paintings properly. Appreciate the light had to be dim in case of damage??? Lots of people were using magnifying glasses. Normally enjoy the museum but not today
Experiencia fantástica: Visited as the William Hogarth exhibition was running. That exhibition was superb but also had time to look at the rest of the art gallery and museum. We were impressed by the content, variation and quality of exhibits on show throughout. So worth visiting - thankyou.
Experiencia fantástica: Really well presented exhibition about Hogarth. Friendly, professional staff members. Joseph Wright permanent exhibition well worth a visit. Kids will love the fox in the gallery about animals. Don't forget to see the mummy. Beautiful porcelain in the cabinets in the cafe area.
Experiencia fantástica: Lovely staff on hand on arrival and throughout. Plenty of items to look at, especially archaeology from the local area, it's fantastic and mind-blowing that people have been living where you live for thousands of years. Great for children. My son loves the curio cabinets with fossils and rocks and also the musical instruments. Really worth a visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place really interesting things, such as stuffed animals at the time we went and also lovely cafe!
Experiencia fantástica: Don’t be put off by the exterior. Friendly with fantastic collection of Joseph Wright’s paintings with a diverse collection of other objects.
Experiencia fantástica: Visited today, 23 June 2023, not been for about 20 years. What an enjoyable experience. Staff were so welcoming and helpful. The museum is clean and the artifices well laid out with lots of interesting and useful information. A great place to spend a couple of hours and learn about our city and its past. Didn’t visit the cafe so cannot comment.
Experiencia fantástica: Heritage items from across different parts of world can be seen in a small version museum.
Experiencia fantástica: A very interesting little find! I was most surprised once I got there. Didn't expect it to hold so many artifacts. A very nice place to take the kids.
