Experiencia fantástica: This other great unknown museum to both visitors and locals alike is found in front of the city’s principal Cathedral. The vast and eclectic collection of the sculpture Frederic Mares is housed in the Real Mayor palace in the Gothic Area, and includes an unequaled collection of Christ’s on the Cross. Another section of the museum, known as Sentimental Museum, contains a collection of daily use articles such as fans, clothing, etc

Experiencia fantástica: Very, very nice museum free to visit. They have sculptures, paintings, weapons, swords you name it. It's a smallet version of Prado from Madrid. I highly recommend it. Expect about an hour to visit.

Experiencia fantástica: An incredible collection! I am fascinated, overwhelmed! An amazing, rich place! I wandered around in amazement! Definitely not a place for a few hours or a day; can visit for days and weeks. I want to look carefully each track and consider, examine individually. For sure I will come to Barcelona again so that I can come to this museum once again. The staff are very hospitable, friendly and helpful. Thanks so much. I am very impressed.

Experiencia fantástica: A really interesting museum with a lot to see. Fresh and big, nice personal.

Experiencia positiva: A large museum spanning many floors with a vast selection of items renting from antiquity to basically the industrial age. There are guided as well audio tours available and I would recommend either of these as there is very little detail given for much in display, many with no plaques at all to even give a hint of what you are looking at our even the era from where it came.

Experiencia fantástica: The museum offers a super interesting, and vast collection of curious artifacts. Religious sculptures, medieval artifacts, photography, games and dolls, newspapers, armory, and others. But the nicest thing about this museum was the workers, they are very knowledgeable, respectful, dedicated, and just nice in general. The whole visit was nicer because of them, it's worth visiting if you want to see a huge collection of relevant historical artifacts. I would recommend and I will visit again when I'm back in Barcelona.

Experiencia fantástica: Don't let the lower floors put you off if your not a fan of religious artefacts. Upstairs has one of the most random collections of stuff I have ever seen. Very cheap entry (4.20 euros) and only 1 euro for the audioguide. The place was practically empty and needs to be visited more. One slight drawback was I felt the staff were stalking me through the rooms at times. But I suppose they have to keep the objects safe.

Experiencia fantástica: Incredible hidden gem - it's like three museums in one: art, Frederic Marés sculpture library and then the amazing collections too. And it was fantastic value for money too - 2 tickets and an audio guide for less than €10

Experiencia fantástica: An incredible, somewhat under-publicized collection that can go toe-to-toe with any Museum, anywhere! The bottom two floors are a bit redundant. For example there are probably 3 dozen pieces of the crucified Christ and signage doesn't really give you a clue of what lays ahead. I actually had a foot out the door when I went back in to take a picture and realized little by little there are another three stunning floors - everything from bicycles, rings, old phonographs and watches, dolls plus tha art of Mares himself - his sculptures are terrific. Overall, the place is a stunner!

Experiencia fantástica: It's just unbelievable that all of this has been collected by 1 person during his lifetime. The entry is free on Sundays. It's a n unbelievable collection. Do take at least couple of hours to visit all the levels.

Experiencia positiva: Amazing collection of beautiful objects including religious sculptures, fans, pottery, metalwork and textiles. The cool, quiet interior of the museum was a welcome and peaceful break from the busy streets outside. There are such a variety of items on display and the old display cabinets themselves are lovely, I found myself intrigued by items I didn't even think I would be interested in. I just wish there had been a bit more interpretation in the upper floors so I knew what some of the more obscure things were or when pieces dated from.

Experiencia fantástica: You need MORE than three hours to see everything. :) First floor and zero floor are a bit boring, but when you go up you'll be rewarded for your patience and interest.

Experiencia fantástica: Nice museum that is worth the admissions price (under €3 for those under 29 years old). Medieval works of art mainly involving wood, stone, and Christian themes.

Annalisa M 5 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Mainly religious art dating back 400 BC. The upper floors are daily life antiques, like cameras, clocks, playing cards, bicycles and even personal Marés suitcase. It's worth a visit though, especially because ticket is cheap (around 4.5€) or you can visit Sunday after 3pm when it's free.

Experiencia fantástica: An amazing collection. In all the years I have visited Barcelona I have never been here. Wish I had as it’s incredible the amount of things collected. You need to visit many times to see it all. We went on a Sunday afternoon and just didn’t have enough time. The beautiful religious sculptures are only the start. You don’t need to be religious to appreciate the skill involved. I am still amazed by what I saw. And then you go up to the collections. Everything you can think of. This has got to be the best collection in the world. So much history. So much art craft and design.

Experiencia fantástica: Just amazing! It has everything from sculptures to daguerreotypes, a wonderful collection of everything you can imagine! You have to come. It’s so big than the ticket is for 2 different admissions.

Experiencia fantástica: I was very well impressed to visit this Museum. It was never my first option I admit it. But once you get in you quickly find out the incredibly amount of interesting objects collected through the years by this man. You can get in for free sometimes and a couple of hours inside are enough to travel to the past and see curious objects of the most diverse classes... If you have more than a couple of days in BCN then make yourself the favor of visiting this place.

Experiencia fantástica: This magnificent gem is under appreciated! It has an outstanding collection comprised of an obsessive collector's years of amassing extraordinary pieces from tin toys to pipes to memento memoria to ceramics to sculptures to religious memorabilia and the list goes on! Very diverse, immaculately presented, an oasis of calm in the midst of this gorgeous tourist Mecca! Inexpensive. Don't miss the crypt!

Experiencia fantástica: Tickets at this museum are valid for some time after your first visit, and that's a good thing because there's a lot to see. The first two floors have a pretty solid collection of sculpture (including more crucifixes than you can count), but the top two floors -- the collector's cabinet -- are the real gem. A room filled with old keys? Check. A room filled with fans? Absolutely. A room filled with cards and matchbook covers? An absolute must see.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely insane collection! If you're visiting Barcelona, and have time for a single museum, this is the one! Staff is very informative. The tickets are valid for multiple entries + the museum is completely empty! And the garden/atrium is a bonus. Easily my favorite place in the city!

Olivia 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: This is now my favourite museum! Full of wonderful and interesting items I spent hours going through the place. And I can use my ticket again for free in the next 6 months! Makes me want to go back and see it all over again. Everything is so beautifully laid out and the sculptures are really given the right sense of space that they each deserve. The only thing I found negative was the fact that the staff working the different floors seemed to follow me around (as a woman on my own I found this particularly unsettling) and I was told about 5/6 times to not use flash on my camera, even though I hadn't once. The staff at the entrance were lovely, just the staff in the galleries that were a bit intimidating.
