Experiencia fantástica: Excellent facility, very educational. It's cool to be able to get inside real cockpit and see what it is like to fly a 737. Very impressive.

Experiencia fantástica: A fantastic site and truly memorable experience ! The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend visiting the aircraft museum and booking a session in the Boeing 737-800 flight simulator. This is a great asset for the Shannon region !

Experiencia fantástica: Jane runs a great facility here catering for all areas of aviation interest. I've brought Beaver Scouts here and they have a great time here. Jane puts on a great program for them. They enjoy their time on the flight simulators, learning about the mechanics of flight, seeing and interacting with the indoor and outdoor exhibits..They especially love the inflatable life jacket demonstration. The show piece of this wonderful museum should be the Blackburn Buccaneer (XX897) but unfortunately one is only able to walk about it at ground level with no opportunity to view the cockpit.

Experiencia negativa: Couldn’t even get to the museum itself, but the whole experience of trying to visit the place( the one in Shannon town) is a disaster !!! To start with, the info on the web is so confusing regarding the locations, tickets/ prices (no info at all) opening times etc. Websites are a joke, one of the links takes you to a website of a different aviation museum located in UK(!?). I rang them last Saturday (the museum was supposed to be open), a lady said “ not today, come tomorrow” ,the next day (on Sunday)we went there with 2 kids, and… (surprise !) the museum was closed!?!( just like it said on the web)… The whole organisation is an absolute mess, the information on the internet is a joke as if it hasn’t been changed for decades…very unpleasant experience that could have ruined our weekend, luckily we found where to go instead…

Atlantic Air Adventures

We are sorry to hear that indeed Valerijs. We have very few negative reviews usually because we spend huge effort ensuring our visitor enjoy themselves, above and beyond usually. Are you sure you were actually on our website shannonaviationmuseum.com? Its a brand new website and cant see any old info on it. Yes always things can be better and for some reason Shannon Airport seems to have confused things and inserted a Shannon Aviation Museum at the airport, this is for their collection of model aircraft in the departures area. We were very much open on Saturday, so no idea how that happened . . .and Friday but closed last Thursday due to staff issues and other problems beyond our control. I did have to turn someone away from the door that day, of course I apologised but still expected a poor review after it , rather than a direct person to person phone call, some folks like to rip you up online for some reason. I said that we were open the following day, but that was Friday. We never open Sundays.
An unfortunate happening I think, but do please have some small bit of mercy for those of us trying to battle the adversity that has been leveled on us and keep our facility up and running. I hope those reading this take the time to read our other many great reviews, and clear appreciation for the unique facility this is.

Experiencia fantástica: This is an excellent museum and so unique in Ireland. To see the Buccaneer in all it's glory and cockpit sections of other RAF fighters and other aircraft is a sight to behold. The layout of the museum is very well thought out and great to see the new hanger been utilised. The staff are very helpful and informative. Travelling there with 2 young kids, they really enjoyed seeing the aircraft and all the displays throughout the museum. A must for aviation enthusiasts and highly recommend to families of all ages to see the only museum of its kind open to the public in the country.

Thank you very much Declan, thats so great to read!

Experiencia negativa: Please dont get me wrong, a wonderful place , although staff was amazing, but signs could be better, no signs out side of the planes I didn't know what there was, advertising a cafe but all it was was a coffee maker, good for kids day out, but if you coming a long way then I would reconsider as there is not much to do for an adult ,pictures and models all over the place but again no signs to say what they was,,, plenty for kids, I just went for the sim experience which was satisfactory, this was a covid safe environment and well done to the staff for making it that way plenty of parking, all in all thank you for a good day

Experiencia negativa: Daniel Hoy, Southwest Airlines QA Rep in town on business staying next door at Treacy's. On my one free day 8/Oct/2019 I arrive at 11am. Doors locked. No "Closed" sign. Spoke with a contruction crew onsite who said owner opens at 10am, but doesn't know where she is. Had this place listed as a must see. Guess it's a no see. Oh well, sure there are other sights in Shannon/Co Clare more customer oriented. Daniel

killian roche 7 years ago

Experiencia negativa: No tour given but full price paid simulator is over priced for poeple who want to just have go and not learn to fly.

Atlantic Air Adventures

Hi Killian, We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your visit, I cant find a booking reference for you so I'm not sure if you are referring to the B737 NG flight sim, which is €75 for 30 mins? Admission to the museum is included in the voucher for the recipient and a guest, and the guest can also accompany you into the flight simulator to observe, however we don't state anywhere that we include a personal tour, Tours are given as part of the Aviation Discovery Tours and have to be booked, mainly because the museum is run on a voluntary basis and there's only a few of us. We do our best to make sure we personally attend to all our museum visitors, but if we have a large group in, and you have not booked in aspart of a tour, we may not be able to reach you. The museum obviously can't make ends meet giving free admission, as it did to your good self. We do advertise the B737 flight sim as an educational and fun experience, and our core aim here is educational rather than being an amusement centre, We are an aviation education centre, and we offer access to the general public for some activities. Its what we do. The 737 sim a very expensive piece of equipment and the instructors are usually commercial pilots themselves. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it and our instructor, who was no doubt enthusiastically sharing his knowledge with you, would also be. It is our companys policy not to allow any deliberate simulated crash during the B737 sim experience and instructors will refuse if asked, just in case you were hoping for that kind of thing! Otherwise if you paid €20 for the Aviation Discovery Tour, which is €20 and lasts about 2 hrs usually. That includes a theory of flight lesson, then a 30- 40 min session on the smaller flight simulators, and after that a pretty extensive guided tour. I cant imagine how you were missed from the group or left out of that. Can you let me know which you booked so we can understand the situation better please? Thank You

Eoin Walsh 7 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Price for tour and simulator not explained properly at reception. The elderly gentleman who guided us into the museum section was well informed and showed he had interest. However the museum is in bad need of renovation. The displays outside in poor condition. Once finished we headed in to reception for the simulator. No one on counter so we just went into the simulators which were free. A lady called over asked us to leave then said its an extra 20pp for the simulator. She was very rude and unprofessional. I tried to explain that when we arrived there was a group at the counter so the prices were covered. The young man at the counter said 8 for the museum and simulator. Mentioned no extras for the simulator. She became aggressive at which point we left. She did offer a refund but wouldnt accept that we were given the wrong information and very poor customer service. If your looking for a good historic aviation try the foynes museum instead.

Atlantic Air Adventures

Hi Eoin I'm sorry it turned out that way, it's unfortunate for you and us, however there are always two sides to a story. You didn't mention that you arrived at the same time as a group of 20 special needs adults who were booked in for the Aviation Experience tour. I asked if you were you booked in when I saw you sitting in the flight simulators, when you said that you were not, I asked you to come to the front desk and if you would like to check in for it we could manage, so you wouldn't be disappointed. At this point you said that you thought the €8 induced flight simulation, I pointed out the signs, the lady there became angry and directed that you leave, at that point I apolgise, yes I did become frustrated and reacted to her anger at me. I tried to explain that we had a special need group in the sim room, we were very busy making sure that they were attended. I thought you might have some compassion. I did not realise at the time that our Chairman who is 85, had already personally guided you around the museum, and also had to attend to a group of 10 of our booked visitors. I believe Oisin didn't ask if you wanted to do flight simulation as we were already busy with the booked group, and you didn't have a booking and he presumed you saw the signs, He said that the Museum was €8, There are 3 signs up, one beside the reception desk, one on the outside of the front door and one on the entrance to reception, you cant miss them! The info is also on our website. These explain that the Museum admission is €8 for adults and €6 for students and OAPs and over 12s, and €4 for under 12s, and that Guided Tours are only guaranteed as part of the booked Aviation Discovery Tour and Flight Simulators are not included. We also state that Aviation Discovery Tours are €20, include theory of flight lesson , flight simulators, and a guided tour , the activity is about 2 hours and must be booked. In terms of our poverty conditions, yes its true, we need renovations, and we need funding to do that, we have already borrowed heavily to put those airplanes there in the hopes of getting a building to cover them, the museum is a charity, people can donate to our crowdfunding campaign to help us put a building there. We are not a state funded facility and therefore it is a real struggle to pay commercial rent, rates, insurance and the bank loans for the aircraft that are degrading in the open air, and then also renovate the museum and restore the exhibits, and all on an entry fee of €8? If you were responsible and liable for what we are, for the benefit of the people like your good self, who visit us, you would not sleep well at night. You are most welcome some other time Eoin, maybe a planned visit after we make our crowdfunding target, or win the lotto and have our lovely new building! Please visit our website before you come here reader, use the age of technology to learn about our facility and what programmes we offer to the general public, how much it is and when we offer it. If you then feel its of interest and value, do visit us!

Experiencia negativa: Was a bit disappointed, it has an old school static museum display, and there is a Buccaneer parked outside, but for the 8 Euro admission I felt that it was not worth it.

Experiencia fantástica: Got given a voucher for a 30 minute flight.an amazing experience. Will do it again when I come back to Ireland

Daniel Krampe 7 years ago

Versprochen.

Atlantic Air Adventures

Thank you very much Daniel, ( and google translator!) its lovey to hear that and you will be most welcome when you return to Ireland next time.

Martin McMahon 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to visit for a huge array of aircraft simulators, all the way from light aircraft to a full 737 cockpit simulator. The museum is excellent, with tours, videos, expert talks from engineers and pilots and helpful knowledgeable staff.

Experiencia negativa: Always receive a wonderful welcome from the staff and management every time I visit.

Art Grey 7 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Nice place.there are few things to see and you can try flight simulator I believe most advanced in Ireland seen some air crew members training on it

Atlantic Air Adventures

thanks Art, its not the most advanced in Ireland, as it's not certified for flight training, but its a really nice sim, and unusual as its built from a real cockpit, pilots do use it for interview and sim check preparation. Hopefully we will see you again, next time try it out!

Richard McEvoy 7 years ago

Experiencia negativa: €150 for 1 hr simulator. For that price I felt this was terrible on so many levels!!!! The instructor was a lovely guy who clearly knew his stuff but, and it is a big BUT, he was way too technical while instructing a person like me who has no experience! Constantly using terms and 3 letter acronyms for things I hadn't a clue of so every time I had to stop him to ask. This wasted a lot of time. A simple training video of what the terms meant prior to entering would have helped. On top of that, a lady interrupted the middle of our session to show a visitor the setup... completely unprofessional! The price included a tour of the museum which can only be described as tiny, run down and in BAD need of some care. For 1/5 of that price you can visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast so that pretty much sums it up really... overpriced for what is invloved. Definitely recommend to ppl to NOT visit!!!

Atlantic Air Adventures

We are awfully disapointed to hear you didnt enjoy your experience. Firstly, I apologise that you were interupted, that is not customary by any means and shouldnt have happend, in fact that visitor had asked member of staff could he look in, who refused, he caught someone else who was standing in and didnt realise, so I do apologise sincerely for that. On your actual experience, your instructor is a 737 type rated commercial pilot, who donates his time to help the facility. Most of our visitors dont have any experience, we have all ages and abilities, including children, and its certainly a first to have a complaint that the expereince is too technical. Most people appreciate who they are sitting beside, this guy has spent 120k on his training, hes not a gamer and I cant apologise for that. I do apologise that we are not funded to the level that Titanic Museum, I believe 50 million would help us look as good as that, we have a very small team work very hard to try to keep the facility going with only the income earned to support it . Because the simulator is in part of the museum, we do not charge people with vouchers, additionally we give them plus a guest access to the exterior exhibits, which yes, are in BAD need care and that takes LOTS of money for a building to cover them. That is why we have a crowdfunding campeign underway to upgrade the museum. We charge €4 for children and €7 for adults for museum admission. So the unpleasant experience of seeing our tiny and run down museum which represents 10 years unpaid and incredibly hard work, was free. Why did you not speak to us directly at the time when we could have resolved any issues you had without the hurt caused to us.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a great place. Or at least it has one great older gentleman working here. We went there on a Friday afternoon when it was very quiet. I and my wife and not yet 3 year old son were shown around by this nice old man who shared stories and let my son sit in the planes and he could not have been nicer. There might be better equipment in other museums but we got such a nice tour filled with loads of stories from his days as an RAF pilot. Great place for kids. Informal and informative.
