Experiencia positiva: Nicely put together exhibitions and well maintained interior however there's too many tour groups! Avoid peak times / hours otherwise you're people watching and trying to avoid clusters of people. They also place a kiosk with maps for sale at the main entrance prior to the actual information area with free maps, watch out!
Experiencia fantástica: If you’re the least bit interested in human culture, don’t doubt it for a single second. Just keep in mind: this place is BIG, FULL of things to see and it might get crowded.
Experiencia fantástica: Having been to many a museum around the world, The British Museum is the most impressive..... Even though most of the artefacts have been removed from other countries, putting that to one side, the care, preservation taken in displaying the relics is fantastic, the story and explanation is clear and concise. Must see/destination for anyone visiting London. Throughly recommend to anyone who is fascinated with history or simply wants a day out. Please go!
Experiencia fantástica: A huge collection of important parts of history and art. It gets very warm. The tour groups all seem to start at the Rosetta stone and go back so skipping this if you are there early and coming back to it may help. Some of the galleries do not allow tour groups and these were a nice quieter break. Some of the very important pieces are quite small so knowing the highlights of each room is helpful. The standby line when we were there was very long, but moved quickly.
Experiencia fantástica: Always a pleasure to visit, always something new and interesting to see. Unfortunately the queue at the gift shop snaked around the corner and we chose to put our gifts back on the shelves. Also long wait to get in, but it was a last minute decision to visit so we didn't pre buy tickets. Love the museum, will be back, well done on a great museum.
Experiencia positiva: Amazingly beautiful pieces of history, curated in a thoughtful way. Only issue was that it was VERY hot inside, so I recommend taking a fan or something if it's a v hot day x
Experiencia fantástica: Make sure to have at least one and a half day to visit the museum because there are too many great stuff to see. If you want to avoid too many crowds and time to line you, you can also get free reserved tickets on their official website. Recommend to visit the museum in the morning, as the crowd and tour groups will start entering during the afternoon.
Experiencia positiva: Could be much better! Internet and AC is almost non existent! If it's the budget, I don't mind paying reasonable entry fees as a visiting foreigner. This is not just a national treasure but a treasure of humanity. Another disappointing aspect is there's a subtle and cunning effort to suppress the name of cultural India, which was the biggest money maker for the Empire and which is much bigger than the political India, in Exibhit as South Asia.
Experiencia fantástica: First, it contains tons of artifacts and history. The best of all it's free to get in! They take donations. Line up in long but they let everyone in. I came to London just to visit this place.
Experiencia fantástica: Incredible artefacts. Perhaps not so good for young children. So much to see and learn. The only downside was that on a hot day it was even hotter inside and very crowded.
Experiencia positiva: Great Museum, just takes a long time to get in if you didn’t buy a ticket ahead of time.
Experiencia positiva: Great museum! Pity we couldn"t see more. Got there just before the last admission at 4:30 but the guards started telling us that the museum closes in 15 minutes and sent us away so we didn"t see much. Sent us away also when we wanted to sit in front of the museum. Last admission should definitely be earlier if you can"t stay in until 5.
Experiencia fantástica: So many absolute treasures to see! We were waiting in a line that went all around the block but some guy randomly selected us to skip the line so we were allowed in! It was so amazing seeing all of the artifacts!
Experiencia fantástica: I visited the British Museum, and it was truly an impressive experience. The museum's size and extensive collection were captivating. The Ancient Egypt and Greece sections were particularly remarkable. Seeing the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles up close was thrilling, allowing me to examine such significant pieces of history. The fact that the museum is free to enter means that people of all ages and from all over the world visit, which was wonderful to see. However, the debates about whether some artifacts should be returned to their countries of origin were thought-provoking. Overall, the British Museum is a must-see in London.
Experiencia fantástica: It is a beautiful and very large place. I had no tour guide so I toured it on my own. There's so much knowledge stored in there I don't think I was able to exhaust up to the half of it. I recommend this to anyone interested in learning about Africa, Ancient Egypt, Greece/Rome and the Islamic world. I'm pretty sure this is not even all of it.
Experiencia fantástica: For me, as an Iranian, it is a matter of pride to know that my ancestor Cyrus the Great (Kourosh the Great - Cyrus the Great), who 2500 years ago created human rights and abolished slavery in the territories where he ruled, almost all of Asia, the northern part of Africa and a large part of Europe. The constitution of the United States of America was written after him and in general Human Rights are respected all over the world today! In this image we see the proof, the CYLINDER OF CYRUS, which is kept in the British Museum. The British museum is an impressive place with artifacts of immeasurable value, the past of man, culture and a small part of everything that man had.
Experiencia positiva: The museum itself is excellent but the bag check queues are awful and stretch around the block. Apparently you only need to queue in the bag check queue if you have a bag but there’s no other way to get in so the queue just trails along. The museum itself is excellent and is well worth a visit
Experiencia positiva: Expansive museum with some of the world's rarest objects (Elgin marbles, Parthenon pieces...) Even the "quieter" and less visited galleries (according to the museum) are packed. Huge tour groups make navigation a little challenging, and even if you didn't buy a ticket, if you're willing to wait in line, you can still visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Free tickets can be reserved in advance on the web. Astonishing collection of items from cultures around the globe.
Experiencia fantástica: Very nice Museum with free entrance, you have to factor in some time to wait in line for the security check. The museum itself is huge and theres a lot to see!
Experiencia positiva: Vaya por dios, visto el museo visto el mundo! Sin comentarios. La biblioteca espectacular. Cierra a las 5. Compra primero y come pizza.
Experiencia positiva: Interesting exhibits with free admission. Very busy, difficult to access elevators for those who have accessibility needs. Afternoon tea at the restaurant was fun and I enjoyed immensely.
Experiencia fantástica: I had a fantastic visit to the British Museum. The exhibits are incredibly diverse and well-organized, showcasing everything from ancient artifacts to modern history + the museum itself is beautiful and easy to navigate. A must-visit for anyone interested in history and culture!
Experiencia positiva: The exhibits are incredible, but I recommend you go with plenty of time because the museum is huge. The staff is not known for their friendliness.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing FREE place to spend a few hours or all day! Security checks via tents on arrival. Central atrium is spectacular if you look up- lots don't - it's light & bright, restaurant up there... Atrium can get rather busy especially if there are holiday activities for children to enjoy! There's an information desk/signs and leaflets here giving historical era covered and saying which floor/room info. There's limited seating, toilets, shop, and cafe here too. Special exhibitions- do check dates and if tickets are required some are tickets only and sell out quick. Recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment as often fully booked. Members can turn up and go. Coat/rucksack store on ground floor to L from main door entry. Toilets nearby also in atrium. Disabled lift to get in at front and lifts around for different floors. Please be aware due to current front of building work the usual lift on L is blocked off behind boarding so you may need to find the other entrance. I'm sure staff will advise.
Experiencia negativa: Too busy, too hot, too crowded. I visited on a Friday in July, alongside every tourist in London. Most of the tourists didn't read the signs and spent the whole visit blocking the displays when they took selfies. Luckily, like Daleks, the tourists seemed unable to walk up stairs so the first floor exhibits were visible.
Experiencia fantástica: To understand the present, we need to study our past. This place has artifacts, treasures and trophies from many civilizations that existed over the centuries. You should reserve a full day if you are interested in visiting.
Experiencia fantástica: The museum is great with information and artifacts just be prepared for crowds. The building felt a bit like a maze but that felt intentional to hold so many things. Getting timed tickets online in advanced definitely helped so I got in quickly. The cafe inside is a great place to stop and relax with some tasty food.
Experiencia positiva: The British museum was so packed even we have already reserved the time. Many exhibitions and many rooms to explore but just little time ( of course so many people jammed in one place you can’t hardly have enough time to see every piece). Good is that it is free and you can reserve another time to visit again.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museums I’ve ever been to. The collections are all outstanding, and they have so many jewels that have marked human history. It’s a museum not to miss, but it is huge. Plan ahead because there’s so much to see, you need to prioritize what you like. It was VERY crowded on a Sunday.
Experiencia fantástica: The British Museum is so big and beautiful. It has large valuable pieces from all around the world. I missed home(Iran) and went there to visit my country part, but found it interesting and informative for all other parts of the world. Also, it was free to the public for visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Most of what's in there isn't really British though. But it's a museum. Nice Friday evening late sessions.
Experiencia fantástica: It’s good time to go and spend the entire day there. The crowd level was high. Food was OK for what you paid for at the food court. We used the day to escape the heat, however many of the halls were not climate controlled. Overall, a great wealth of history and education. To limit your time to enter, recommend going in with no bags to skip the security line.
Experiencia positiva: Not much point of pre booking a ticket, queue is always so long to get in. Serious over crowding inside. Avoid post 12pm if you can.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museums, you need at least one full day to explore all
Experiencia fantástica: Ein sehr beeindruckendes Museum. Ganz besonders sind natürlich die Mumien. Kostenloser Besuch immer möglich. Freitags bis 20:30 Uhr geöffnet.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful museum with large numbers of artefacts from all over the world. Visited during weekday but still was very crowded but very well managed
Experiencia fantástica: It was completely free to enter, and it had such a large scale and variety of different items that could've been as small as a coin or as big as a bungalow! There were free to use public bathrooms and many different floors and about 100 different rooms to explore, filled with antiques from all throughout history like ancient Egypt and Japanese samurai.
Experiencia positiva: The exhibits aren't the worst, but they're fairly simple. I do see them trying out new, more interesting exhibition styles, which is great. Unfortunately, it's not the most accessible for wheelchairs. So overcrowded and people not caring about sharing public space. I was often pushed and shoved without getting the opportunity to actually enjoy the artifacts.
Experiencia fantástica: Was fortunate to have carved out time to attend the museum's special exhibit, "Michelangelo: the Final Decades," featuring his last works in Rome. It is amazing to see his personal letters and artistic sketches that were realized in paintings, sculpture, and architecture. Pro tip: The lines for general museum entry are extremely long and wrapped around the block at both entries. Since I purchased a timed ticket to this exhibit, I was allowed to skip the very long line and security check. I was directed by a very nice staff person to go straight to the guard for a quick bag check and entry. Very friendly museum staff were eager to direct me to the Great Court and the exhibit. I was able to spend two very focused hours on this excellent exhibit. Highly recommend!
Experiencia fantástica: Visited the Michelangelo exhibition, excellent. But a bit busy on Sunday morning. Recommend buying tickets online for general admission to avoid the queue and walk straight in! The ground floor is very busy, quieter on the top floor.
Experiencia fantástica: Love this place so much. Used to be a member. Have been hundreds of times as there's always something to see and the paid for exhibitions are usually well worth the additional cost. Have not been disappointed yet! Though I do think it's a shame that the 'reading room' isn't open for use. There are two food courts in the main hall. Overpriced, as expected, though the money supports the museum which is, after all, free. The seating areas and Egyptian exhibit can be very busy due to school trips so choose your visit day/time wisely.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the best museum tours. Highly recommend getting your tickets in advance. It’s a popular tourist spot so please be careful of your belongings.
Experiencia negativa: A place where historical architecture and monuments were stolen from their own country to be on display by their coloniser and occupier. Absolutely horrific. Plus they ask for donations to maintain the items stolen from other countries. Hated it. It was all horrible and shocking!
Experiencia positiva: I must admit to some disappointment here. We didn't book tickets - fair enough - and they let us in anyway - fair enough - but the result is overcrowding and the absence of learning. I was sorely disappointed to find that the reading room is just an Instagram backdrop now - a real pity.
Experiencia fantástica: Buy your ticket before you go, line may bore you however line moving forward faster you think. Inside of the museum is another world. Amazing place, art pieces and vibes. %100 recommend
Experiencia fantástica: The best museum in the world, after the Met, for sheer range of history and culture. And the quote in first pic really captures it all. But getting real crowded these days. Don’t go in the morning and Fri if you don’t want to wait in long queues. Ticket booking is not checked at times. Maybe the security is extra strict these days but the checks do take quite a while.
Experiencia fantástica: It was one of the most interested places in London. There's a lot of culture, you can learn everything about the history of world. In the middle of the museum , there are lots of souvenirs, that I consider they're not expensive. You can buy the tea boxes with the most iconic symbols of London . The service is fantastic, and the workers in the museum are so kind. I suggest you to book the tickets , which are for free, in the web page.
Experiencia fantástica: Very interesting bible tour. How the ancient pagan rituals have been absorbed into Christianity.
Experiencia fantástica: So many stolen goods haha. 100% need to reserve free ticket online, you have to pick an entry time
Experiencia fantástica: Brilliant exhibition on Roman Legionnaires. Wonderful exhibits & especially the crucifixion victim which I never thought I would be able to see. The guide book is excellent & well worth buying; packed with information. Staff are always helpful. One of my favourite places to visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place. I was especially interested in artifacts with reference to Bible accounts. Fascinating. I was so excited by seeing the Rosetta Stone that my party went on without me noticing.
Experiencia fantástica: Very busy with long queues, but quality of its contents just stands out. Really enjoyed the 'Legion' exhibition, although busy like the museum itself.
Experiencia fantástica: Super. Love to be there. Is good for adults and smal adventure. Not good for smal kids. They will be bored.
Experiencia fantástica: An absolutely brilliant experience, it was amazing to see all of the exhibits, so much to see, highly recommended!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing collection. Recommend to visit with a guide. There is a free walking tour where you can have the most of it. 10/10.
Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful place for the people who are interested in the history of the country and old kingdoms. They store every country's history with ancient items with the real meanings and the good massage.
Experiencia fantástica: Recommend you get tickets in advance it saves you a lot of time. Since we had tickets our line was short. But no ticket line was huge. Also, get a tour guide.
Experiencia positiva: Having pre booked tickets is a must and you need a whole day to see everything in the museum. Staff were friendly, just don't touch the exhibits or you can get chucked out. Only one star off from perfect as there were parts closed off for renovation.
Experiencia fantástica: A must see when you're on holiday in london! The line can be long, but if you have an exhibit ticket, you can bypass the long lines. Plan to spend at least 5 hours to fully enjoy the museum.
Experiencia fantástica: The museum was very interesting with all the pieces from all over the world. Very large and a lot of people so purchase timed tickets online and you may get to skip the line if your purchase the experiences.
Experiencia fantástica: If you love history this museum has to be at the top of the places to go in London. The entrance is free but you have to get the tickets from the webpage beforehand. A lot of pieces from different civilisations.
Experiencia fantástica: Massive building with a variety of exhibitions. There are plenty of rooms to walk around. The best is to book a ticket in advance for avoiding queues.
Experiencia fantástica: Very nice and huge Buildind! A lot of things which are very interesting. It's been seperated to different zones, Asia, Egypt, Europe and so on. Especially I really loved Asia where you can find Koran Muslims religious book.
Experiencia positiva: Timed free entry. Make sure you login at their site before going to the gate and scroll thru paid options to the free one. The collection is amazing, of course. However, compared to other museums, the lighting, signage, and ventilation are poor. Don't visit on a warm day. It was oppressive inside the galleries. The messiness of the exhibits is probably remedied with an audio guide, if you have time for it, or a layout map for a couple pounds. Otherwise, look for small brown signs with room numbers and--if you're lucky, the continent or culture you will see. If you Google beforehand, the museum has its own list of top 14 things to see, mostly with room numbers noted. On a positive note, they have succinct descriptions beside each piece in English. Last, don't do a group tour: They can't go everywhere, and they're really annoying in the many cramped spaces.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing and very nice. We visited the Michelangelo exhibition and ancients Egypt. Lots of people were staying in line front museum, but it went very quickly. Wonderful, how much interest people have in culture and history, bravo
Experiencia fantástica: I went with my parents and my brother to see the “Legion” exhibit about the Roman army. We really enjoyed it, definitely a good group activity for people of different ages. The museum itself is beautiful and very clean, the staff were helpful and the historical exhibits are phenomenal. In particular I was amazed by a the oldest surviving birthday party invitation written by a Roman woman. A great day out
Experiencia fantástica: Awesome place to go and see all the exhibits displayed here. One of the best museum I have visited and it's free. Just book your tickets online at the museum's official website.
Experiencia fantástica: The entrance is free, but they proposed to make a donation online and book a time slot in advance. Actually NO ONE asked for the booking so you can enter for free because in any case you have to wait in a line if you have a bag even a smallest one. But if you don’t have a bag - you can enter right away. So think about it. P.S. the toilets in the main hall are dirty.
Experiencia fantástica: Free, Educational, Interesting. Plus for free toilets and a minus for the map which I think is kinda chaotic but you can definitely get used to it. I would recommend visiting but it is tiring and it's huge so go early not late. Maybe even split your visits into two days. Reserve online for free and then just wait a line and you are in. Beware of bag search.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing place to visit anytime is open. Sometimes it's too crowded. But you have three opportunity to see amazing things and hear a variety of spoken languages due to the many tourists who come to visit. Get a free ticket and no need to wait. There's a cue for no tickets as well. Donations accepted
Experiencia fantástica: It's packed with amazing artifacts from all over the world, like the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles. The place is huge, and just walking around, you get to see stuff from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The building itself is also pretty impressive, especially the Great Court. Best of all, it's free to enter, so it's definitely worth checking out if you're into history or just want to see some incredible things.
Experiencia fantástica: Can't describe it, one of the best place to visit, a very long queue even if you book tickets in advance, but I recommend to book tickets in advance otherwise you might not get the chance to get in if it is a busy day. there is a shop in front where you can lock your luggage or your bag in there, the museum won't let you in if you carry heavy bags or sharp objects. It needs at least 5h for just walking and quickly seeing different sections.
Experiencia positiva: Fascinating artefacts, however I think the Audio Tour should be made free.
Experiencia fantástica: Too many parts of ancient times of many countries. Free entrance. Book ticket from the internet to not have to wait
Experiencia fantástica: So much to see. Apart from the various exhibitions, I am also impressed by the architecture indoors and outdoors.
Experiencia positiva: An utter shambles to get in. The queue wrapped around Gower to Montague. I had bought time restricted, non refundable tickets for the Roman Legion Exhibition. After waiting for 30 minutes, a museum worker yelled that anyone with Exhibition tickets, could go to the front of the queue. The Museum needs a sign posted separate entry for Exhibition tickets. Actually the museum needs sign posted instructions regarding all entry. Once in, to see anything was near impossible. Too many people in too smaller area.
Experiencia fantástica: great place, from here you can see the cultural relics that have been stolen and looted from all over the world. E.g. Three Bodhisattvas, the introduction saied it's found in 1183 and destroyed in wartime during the 1930s and 40s, yes, the war between China and UK, you can see very obvious cutting marks, because the intact artifact is too large and needs to be cut into small pieces before it can be stolen back to the UK.
Experiencia positiva: We saw a lot, but we didn't really SEE anything. Too many people. I get it, There's high demand. The problem is you're not really able to really SEE anything. Tip for next time, someone said to go see the mermaid, we weren't able to on this trip. If you go, try off season and good luck. No pickle ball courts here.
Experiencia fantástica: This review is mainly for the Roman exhibition. However, the British museum is always worth a visit. The exhibition was absolutely incredible, well put together with some fascinating artefacts. I'd love to have spent more time there, but my 6 year old was much less interested than I was ...
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum to visit. Loads to see. I was there for over two hours and didn't see everything.
Experiencia fantástica: So many things to explore. So many valuable items to see. It's free totally and you will definitely need to come twice to see all corners of it
Pre book your tickets they are free otherwise u be waiting in the other queue. Even with precooked tickets queue was huge. Once in side take your time as its huge so much history to see. You can easily spend the whole day in there. Will be going again and will do just a day in there.
Experiencia fantástica: I recently visited the Roman Legion exhibition at the British Museum, but I was disappointed with the experience. While the story itself was informative, it lacked the interactive elements that I have come to expect from London museums. 5* for the British Museum, not the exhibition.
Experiencia positiva: Lots of stolen stuff. Many exhibits were not well lit or identified. My favourite things were the Lewis Chessmen and the Japanese netsukes.
Experiencia fantástica: Entry is free and the collection impressive. The mummy’s and the bog man in particular and extensive ancient history artefacts including the Rosetta Stone.
Experiencia fantástica: Greatest museum I have ever been to. The amount of historical items here is unparalleled. And it's FREE
Experiencia fantástica: "The British Museum's Collection: A Brief Review of Controversial Acquisitions" The British Museum, with its extensive collection of global artifacts, faces significant criticism for holding items acquired during the colonial era. High-profile pieces like the Elgin Marbles, the Rosetta Stone, and the Benin Bronzes exemplify the contentious nature of these acquisitions. Critics argue these artifacts were taken without consent, reflecting the imperialist mindset of the time. Calls for repatriation from countries like Greece, Egypt, and Nigeria have intensified, urging the return of cultural treasures to their rightful contexts. The British Museum has largely resisted widespread repatriation, citing the preservation of global heritage and educational value. However, this stance is increasingly seen as insufficient. Efforts to improve transparency and foster international collaboration, such as joint exhibitions and digital repatriation, are steps in the right direction but are often viewed as inadequate. The museum must commit to ethical stewardship, openness to dialogue, and addressing the injustices of its past acquisitions to truly serve as a custodian of global heritage.
Experiencia fantástica: We got to the museum 45 min before closing, but we enjoyed the time we had. It will definitely be on our list for many hours the next time..
Experiencia fantástica: Free entrance(long queue though). Great experience. Must spare a day to visit it completely if you are into museums. Souvenir shop is amazing.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing, full of diverse history and cultures, I'd recommend to be there minimum 14:00 as it closes at 17:00, mind that is huge and will take you time to visit all...oh, and of you have luggage, you will stay jn a cue that takes 15-30min to get your backpack or purse checked, whilst if you have nothing on you, you'll get in right away...or 3rd option is to buy the ticket online (it's free)
Experiencia fantástica: World history at a glance. So many things can give you goosebumps. At the same time, some of them reminds you of the British colonial history. Many of the relics would not end up in Britain if they didn’t loot them. But those are a part of human history and it is nice to know that those are preserved somewhere. Also, you cannot finish the gorgeous museum in 1/2 days. We spent 1.5 days and still, we could not touch the Asian section.
Experiencia fantástica: This one of the best museums in the world and one of my must-visit places in London. The collection is well-curated and extensive. The special exhibitions are always beautifully presented (I visited the exhibition on Michelangelo). I also love the gift shop for the wonderful selection of gifts and books.
Experiencia fantástica: Another definitely must visit place in London. Getting tickets in advance is a must to avoid the long lines. Yo will need at least two whole days if you see the whole place. My favorite sections are the Assyrian and Egyptian exhibitions. Be prepared to put up with crowds and some lines to see artifacts from all around the world.
Experiencia positiva: Amaizing experience.. We have to wait in a queue but it was worth it. Collection from all over the world. Public utilities are easy to assess. Cafeteria served fresh bakery products. Souvenir shops are located inside the museum have a lot's of products related to the museum collection. Must visit place while visiting London. It's for free for all. Book your tickets online for hassle free entry.
Experiencia positiva: This is an excellent museum and FREE. However the downside is, as it is free it is extremely busy and hard to move around and see things which is why I have it 4 and not 5 stars. If you have pre-booked your ticket it is a different entrance from walk ins, on different streets. Make sure you are in the correct queue
Experiencia fantástica: We thought this would be, somehow, a boring museum. But for us was a surprise. Very fresh items that we haven't seen elsewhere (especially Cleopatra's mummy :))), a lot of objects gathered from occupied territories, the Easter Island statue, the African art...they all impressed us. Take your time to visit this museum, it will last a while - around 4 hours (and we almost skipped the greek and romans since we saw these in Rome and Athens). Worth visiting.
Experiencia positiva: Good collection of quite historical items from around the world. Well organized and good information available around to find your way and read some minimal information about the items. The long line for just entering the building while you have already booked a ticket was surprising and disappointing.
